Update: The 5.9K 60fps Raw without USB-C PD only works with RF lenses, not EF lenses. You can still get the advantage of smaller file sizes in 5.9K raw vs 8K raw, but you will need to use RF lenses without USB-C PD or you can use EF lenses with USB-C PD.
@@PersonOfNote I totally understand how you feel about the battery dude. That is it’s only drawback, and there are a few workarounds to use it without a V amount. But at the end of the day yeah, the battery life is a bit abysmal the image on it for me is really great and that’s why I work with it
Thank you for such an informative and detailed information video. The tracking was something that I needed and the f-stop increments was also great. Please do a separate video on auto-focus and if possible with subjects. Thumbs up!
Heck yeah, brother! I got this camera in January, and I am still learning all the different features of what it’s capabilities are. I absolutely love the image from this thing.
Thanks for the video Josh! Just got my R5C a couple days ago and man it’s such a powerful camera. Was wondering if I should wait for the R5 Mark ii instead, but I decided not to because it won’t have the cinema OS.
It's interesting that you've been putting out so much R5c content. I am a C70 shooter since day one, and intended to buy the R5c when it came out but didn't for some reason. Now some years later I was cruising eBay like a loser and got a new R5c for £2400 here in the UK. I'm already having buyers remorse, ha, but it was a good price. I'll see how much use I get out of it I guess, I just have concerns about the dreaded battery and the slight hit in dynamic range.
this video was freaking amazing. i'm just about to pick up an r5c and this is the best description i've seen of the functions. i'll be back once it's in my hands!
Awesome video definitely learned some new things. I love the R5C, especially the custom button feature, I have my false color set to 12. Button in the front. Absolute game changer when getting good exposure. Thanks for the content!!
If I’m not mistaken. You can shoot 8k raw 60 in mp4 as well, Josh. Also, to quick set a customizable button: press and hold the left menu button and then the button you want to customize. The custom menu will pop up for that specific button. Cinema is is wicked smooth, just need some fleshing out.
Hello, I have been searching for information on the Internet in manuals for 30 minutes. But I did not find how to increase the brightness of the upper display on the camera? Tell me how to do this
XF-AVC was developed 9 years ago specifically with 4K flows in mind for the top of the line cameras at the time, like the "new" C300 Mark II. It supports UHD and DCI 4K as well as Full HD and DCI 2K, but you cannot even use it for, say, a 2.35:1 ratio, even if your camera supports it. The format's metadata is very limited, unlike MP4 which supports XMP, with one of its extensions including a rotation flag for vertical mode. If they haven't even added support for cinema aspect ratios in all these years, I doubt they will add support for vertical shooting, though of course you can still do it and rotate in the edit. Great tips, by they way. If I may add one, I use an external monitor with a clean feed in CLog3, and one of my custom shortcuts is for "OSD Output: HDMI", which allows me to navigate the menus while looking at the external monitor, very useful when I don't have time to check the camera display, and especially if I have the V-Mount battery blocking. Once I'm done, I press it again and I'm back with a clean feed.
Thanks! Yeah, I use that one too. I am hoping to do a full menu walkthrough and setup guide at some point and I would definitely include that. Doing a video with 12 tips kind of limits me. I have a feeling that video will be very lengthy!
Josh, I have a quick question. I'm purchasing an R5C, will be a beginner wedding videographer, I'm going to do the wedding solo and have an opportunity to rent several Sony FX3's for cheap from a friend. What video format do you recommend for the canon and the sony to make post production editing easier, or do you recommend not shooting on different platforms all together - if not why. Thank you so much for your content, I just found you and will be watching all your videos to get me up to speed.
I would recommend shooting on the same platform if you are mixing footage. If that is not a possibility then shoot in Clog3 and Slog3 for maximum flexibility with grading in post.
Could you please help me with the following issue: my Canon R5C camera shuts down during video recording, the LCD screen goes dark, and the viewfinder also goes dark. When I switch the power to "OFF", the camera does not turn off. I have to remove the battery and reinsert it, after which the camera works for a while and then freezes again. This is very frustrating. What should I do in this situation?
Great vid as always, but one issue here: Using a viltrox, and a 24-105L it only allws the lens to shoot in RAW ST on 16mm crop, not 35mm crop. I also tried other EF L series lenses and same issue. Would this be a Viltrox issue do you think? :)
Thanks! I haven't tried the Viltrox speedbooster with the R5C so I don't know. This is the video about using the Canon speedbooster on the R5C: th-cam.com/video/eQYnLoCvMBQ/w-d-xo.html
Can anyone tell how to activate the shutter angle fine increments feature? It is grayed out, and does not give me any clue which option does need to be changed to use it. very annoying, no info on the net about this :(

If you are using the dummy battery to DTAP does it prevent you from using the EF lenses?
Dude I got R5c last week, I’ve been rewatching ALL ur R5c for help getting used to it. I thought it was gonna be similar to r5 but Nope. Lol
Pretty much the same for photo… not for video. Thanks for watching!
I did the same thing once I got it I literally went right to his channel and watched a ton of R5C videos
I got it too then returned it immediately. The battery life is HORRIBLE and I don’t want to mount 72827 things to my camera or else what’s the point?

You're welcome and congrats on the R5C!
Cinema OS is the biggest downside of the camera, the af is not half as good as the regular R5, and gets way to small updates.
I shared your video on the R5C User group, On Facebook.
Thank you so much!
One of the best Josh thank you , Very easy to follow , well shot and thank you ! Keep em coming brother
Thank you for the kind words. I appreciate you watching!
Is the autofocus on the r5c noticeably worse than the r5 in video ?

Nice one ☝️ Missing your podcast! Thought you guys would do one about Nikon buying RED
Thanks! Yeah, we just haven't been able to get any recorded lately. Hoping to in a month or two.
Thank you so much for sharing with us these settings 😊
Great tips! One question, though: For the Focus Assist Feature, does it require an RF lens/lens with contact points? Or will any lens do?
Great video Josh.
Thanks!

Raw is RAW ST or RAW LT. MP4 is not raw, it's a compressed codec like XF-AVC. Also you can't record 8K MP4 above 30fps in the R5C.

tell me about it, what I did for my camera was buy a smallrig mini to full HDMI cable. which i screw in my cage. works great
