  • Logistics startups are the backbone of India’s bustling ecommerce industry. India’s logistics market is pegged at $215 billion and entrepreneurs are taking the opportunity to bring in efficiency and structure into a largely fragmented and unstructured industry. Logistics companies will continue to play a vital role in helping the country to grow its economy.
    Let’s take a look at India’s top 10 logistics startups. 00:00
01:39 #10 Porter: Founded by Pranav Goel, Uttam Digga and Vikas Choudhary in 2014, Porter offers an online platform for businesses and individuals to book a mini truck at affordable prices for their intracity logistics needs. The company has raised $13.7 million from investors like Sequoia Capital, Kae Capital and InnoVen Capital.
02:13 #9 LetsTransport: This last-mile logistics startup was started by Pushkar Singh, Sudarshan Ravi and Ankit Parasher in 2015. LetsTransport is an inter-city truck aggregator platform that helps companies across sectors like FMCG, retail and ecommerce to schedule on-demand bookings. The startup has raised more than $20 million from investors like Bertelsmann India Investments, Fosun RZ Capital and GMO VenturePartners.
02:58 #8 Locus: AI-based logistics management startup was started by two friends Nishith Rastogi and Geet Garg in 2015. The idea for Locus came to the founders from their previous women safety app RideSafe. These young entrepreneurs integrated their women safety app’s live fleet tracking feature into Locus to create an intelligent platform that would help logistics companies to automate their logistics management and making deliveries more efficient.
04:06 #7 LogiNext Solutions: Dhruvil Sanghvi and Manisha Raisinghani leave their consulting jobs in the US to start LogiNext Solutions in 2014. Today, this SaaS-based logistics management startup is helping logistics companies across multiple markets like India, US, Singapore and UAE. Till date, LogiNext Solutions has raised almost $50 million from investors like Tiger Global, Steadview Capital and Paytm.
05:17 #6 Shadowfax: Founded by Abhishek Bansal and Vaibhav Khandelwal in 2015, Shadowfax is a last-mile on-demand logistics startup that partners with delivery boys and mini trucks to offer a one-stop delivery solution to logistics companies. Shadowfax has raised almost $120 million from multiple investors like Eight Roads Ventures, InnoVen Capital and Flipkart.
06:14 #5 Xpressbees: Started by FirstCry founders Amitava Saha and Supam Maheshwari in 2015, Xpressbees was spun-off from FirstCry and become an independent entity offering full-blown logistics services to its customers. Till date, Xpreebees has raised $167.6 million from Alibaba Group, InnoVen Capital, Chiratae Ventures and SAIF Partners.
07:06 #4 Ecom Express: Founded by T.A. Krishnan, K. Satyanarayana, Manju Dhawan and Sanjeev Saxena in 2013, Ecom Express is an e-commerce focused third party logistics provider. In the last seven years of operations, Ecom Express has emerged as a market leader in ecommerce logistics segment and its network coverage allows it to serve more than 90% households in the country. Every major ecommerce startup is their client including Flipkart, Amazon, Snapdeal, Paytm, Udaan and Nykaa. The company has raised $215.4 million from Warburg Pincus, Peepul Capital and CDC Group.
08:08 #3 Rivigo: In 2014, Deep Garg and Geet Kalra set out to make the profession of truckers more humane and address the growing need of truck drivers in the country by starting Rivigo. The company’s innovative relay trucking model, not only helps its drivers to go home to their families every day but also makes deliveries for their customers much faster. It is no surprise that Rivigo has become a unicorn and continue to enjoy the support of its investors who have pumped in more than $250 million.
09:19 #2 BlackBuck: Founded by Rajesh Yabaji, Rama Subramaniam and Chanakya Hridaya in 2015, BlackBuck is India’s largest truck aggregator platform. By creating a marketplace for logistics companies and truck drivers, BlackBuck not only offers more earning opportunities for drivers but also better pricing for the companies. BlackBuck now has more than 400,000 trucks on its platform that serves more than 15,000 clients across the country. It has raised almost $300 million from Accel, Goldman Sachs, Sequoia Capital, and InnoVen Capital.
10:05 #1 Delhivery: India’s first logistics unicorn was founded by Sahil Barua, Mohit Tandon, Bhavesh Manglani, Kapil Bharati and Suraj Saharan in 2011. Delhivery was started as an express local logistics delivery startup in the Delhi-NCR region and in less than a decade, it has expanded its presence to over 2,500 cities in India and delivers more than 1 million parcels every day. The startup has raised almost $1 billion from its investors to become India’s leading logistics company.

😂 I couldn't resist Biplab! After hitchhiking across India back in 2017, I have some weird connection with these goods carriers. I got a lift from a few of them, and also got passed by probably hundreds while I was sticking my hand out waiting, all with their own unique horn sounds, painted letters, hanging tassels, etc. and so when I started making this thumbnail about Indian logistics, I was trying to imagine what an Indian Tesla Semi would look like if it was driven by a typical Indian truck driver. -Caleb

I have travelled with truck drivers in India as well as Canada in order to save money and for adventure, and the difference in quality of life is huge. I really hope that with these innovative startups taking steps towards improving the quality of life for these truck drivers, someday truck driving in India will be thought of as a humane, respectable, and safe profession, the way that it is in some other countries.

The big daddy and first mover in this segment LYNK. Of course it a part of the Tata Motors group of conies. FYI Tata Motors has innovated at least these two things on Indian roads.
    (1) Replacing old three wheeler "share autos" with newer four wheel Tata Magic and it's mini pickup version Tata Ace.
    (2) Sold vehicles by directly approaching drivers' unions and associations.

Hi Pankaj, my knowledge is actually quite limited. I only know about startups from listening to entrepreneurs/VCs talk about them. I've never started up myself, and I didn't study business, economics, or anything like that. Most of the things I know about starting up and entrepreneurship come from building this TH-cam channel over the course of the last two years.
However, if you have any questions you want to ask about entrepreneurship, do tune in tonight at 8 p.m. for Prithvi's livestream, he'll be answering questions about starting up and entrepreneurship there (and unlike me, he is an expert on startups and entrepreneurship). If you want to connect with me, we'll be doing a livestream when we hit 100k where we'll be answering questions together. Also, you can @mention me on our Discord server - I'd be open to doing a live voice chat in one of our voice channels over there if you can get a few people together who are interested! -Caleb

The main problem is that there is no towing culture in India like America ..
People who owns a pickup trucks , they just throw huge amount of overload on the bed , they don't even care about the loading capacity of it....
No-one in India has introduced the concept of towing trailers of pickup trucks , u will only see trailers for semi trucks only......
If someone introduces this concept of trailers , I bet he will be more successful in this field ....

Hi guys, this is Varun from Backstage with Millionaires. You are right, we missed Ekart Logistics. While all the startups mentioned in the video started to offer their services to other companies right from the beginning, Ekart only started to offer it's services to other customers only in 2016. The company doesn't seem to give out much data in terms of their business, so we were a little hesitant to include them on the list. However, they have been handling Flipkart's logistics since 2009. So you guys are right, they do deserve a mention. Will try to be more comprehensive in the future.
Thanks for the input and do check out our other videos. :)

India genuinely needs to improve the infrastructure both road and rail.. The average distance travelled by a truck in India is about 330 kms.. Which is well short of 600+ kms in developed countries..

    • @sujith3914
      @sujith3914 3 ปีที่แล้ว

Exactly my thoughts, the startups are doing their job, infra development will boost it even further. And I am glad that it is already happening, the core of the plan is expressways, bypasses, ring roads, new and improved highways, port modernization, dedicated freight corridors of rail. Do check out some channels that provide info on these aspects, I have been following them for a few months now and it is amazing what is happening already and what is planned too. The initial phases of all these are around 2024-25, if they complete in time, let’s say max 2026 because the progress has been good enough. It would be amazing to compare in 2026.

Hey Atif Zia, I think in a ways it's a good thing that you can see that your idea is already validated. I feel like it's more about the execution than the idea itself. Sure, Rivigo has a lot more money than you but that shouldn't really discourage you from working towards your idea. We wouldn't have any new startups if people were worried about competition. Also, I am sure, you can find a new problem to solve as well, there it's never a dearth of problems. 🙂

Hi Shashank, thanks for bringing these guys to my attention! It definitely looks like a promising company, and the fact that they've been around now for about 5-6 years means that they've survived for longer than 90% of startups. I just hope that the $73 million that they've raised will be enough to get them through the COVID-19 pandemic, as the logistics space is suffering right now due to a significant decrease in volume. But with 60+ shippers on their platform, I think they'll survive 🙂. -Caleb
