Pumpkart, India's pioneering online pump retailer since 2014, led by Dr. KS Bhatia, reported 11 crore rupees in FY23, turning profitable in 2020. Primarily serving North India. Dr. Bhatia, not content with Pumpkart's success, founded Figgital in 2020, a chain of electronics stores, which he scaled to 70+ franchises before selling for $500,000 in 2024-the first Chandigarh startup to achieve an exit. While continuing to grow Pumpkart, Dr. Bhatia initiated KOA Electric, envisioning it as a comprehensive EV store, including two to four-wheelers and electric bicycles, aiming to emulate Decathlon's success in the industry.
While Dr. Bhatia juggles multiple startups, another entrepreneur, Sidharth Oberoi, focuses on dethroning Gillette to lead India's hair removal market. Starting LetsShave at 21, he faced daunting odds against Gillette's century-long dominance. Partnering with razorblade giant Dorco, Sidharth bootstrapped LetsShave, now a thriving business selling over 30,000 products monthly, with 10 lakh customers and FY23 revenue of 22 crore rupees.
EVage, founded by Inderveer Singh, Harnoor Kaur, and Pulkit Srivastava in 2014, aims to electrify India's commercial vehicles with stylish electric trucks. Their innovative MCube factories revolutionize manufacturing, drastically cutting costs by up to 90% and enabling flexible setup. With their flagship FR8 truck boasting a 100km range per charge and 20-minute charging.
Ruchit Garg, formerly at Microsoft, felt the urge to reignite his entrepreneurial spirit, leaving behind a comfortable job. Inspired by his farming roots and the plight of small-scale farmers, he founded Harvesting Farmer Network in 2016. Initially providing free advice, the company expanded to offer a marketplace where farmers can procure supplies and sell produce directly. With over 37 lakh farmers onboard, the platform facilitated transactions worth 250 crore rupees in FY23.
Just Herbs, an organic and Ayurvedic beauty brand, originated in Dr. Neena Gupta's garden lab in Mohali. Ayush Gupta, inspired by his mother's creations, eventually co-founded the brand with his wife, Megha Sabhlok. Their products are developed collaboratively with customers, iterating based on feedback received through social media, resulting in highly praised products. By FY21, Just Herbs had already amassed a revenue of 17.5 crore rupees, prompting an FMCG giant to acquire a majority stake in the company.
Sarthak Aggarwal and his childhood friend Abhishek Bajaj transformed Sarthak's mother's ginger ale recipe into Gunsberg, a non-alcoholic beverage brand. After a year and 400 tastings to perfect the recipe, they tested it at Chandigarh's La Feria Fest in 2018, selling nearly 3,000 bottles in two days. Impressed by the response, they established a production facility in Mohali and officially launched Gunsberg in 2019.
Samar Singla founded three startups, starting with Click Labs in 2011, offering app development services alongside an incubator. Sensing an opportunity in the ride-hailing market, he launched Jugnoo in 2014, India's first auto-rickshaw aggregator. Scaling Jugnoo to over 20 cities with 85 lakh customers, he raised $16 million and turned it profitable. However, aspiring for a billion-dollar business, Samar pivoted Click Labs in 2017 to form JungleWorks, providing SaaS solutions like Tookan for managing delivery operations and Yelo for creating online storefronts.
Zingavita, founded by Sachin Goel, emerged from his concern for his picky-eater son's health. Inspired by a friend's solution of multivitamin gummies, Sachin established Zingavita in 2020 to offer trustworthy, nutritious gummies for kids. Today, Zingavita sells 35 health supplements, generating a monthly revenue run rate of 50 lakh rupees as of May 2022.
Mother Sparsh, a babycare brand, was born from Rishu Gandhi's realization in 2015, while still at Infosys, about the harmful effects of polyester-based diapers on babies' skin. Sensing an opportunity, she co-founded Mother Sparsh with her husband Himanshu Gandhi in 2016, offering eco-friendly, biodegradable baby wipes.
The last startup we'll discuss is EduRev, Chandigarh's sole YC incubated company, established in 2017 by Hardik Dhamija and Kunaal Satija. Dubbed the "Netflix for Education," EduRev offers a curated marketplace of video lectures and courses spanning K12 and college entrance exams. While some content is free, students subscribe, akin to Netflix, for full access. With over 1.4 crore students on the platform, EduRev's stringent content criteria contribute to its success, fielding over 100 content requests from teachers in 2019 but publishing fewer than 10.

Mate, let me make one thing very clear to you. Chandigarh University is not someplace anyone would like to be. The students who have done well have done it on their own. No faculty in the university knows shit about the depths of a subject. It is the only decent option in terms of fees/the ranking they buy by spending money. It literally accepts a 33% student and a 95% student, there is no criteria, engineering seat literally means a bench for them.

Thanks Llama 🦙 we know many of these videos don't perform that well, but we also feel that for the small community of people who watch them they're quite valuable and interesting, plus it helps to give a bit of free publicity to the companies featured in these videos who otherwise wouldn't have been noticed because they're not in Bengaluru, NCR, or Mumbai. Thanks for watching! We are committed to covering each and every state/UT before we retire this series 🇮🇳💪 -Caleb

@@backstagewithmillionaires You guys are doing great! It’s always interesting to find out small startups that I have known of, but had no idea where they were located in. And I believe it would be quite a motivator for ones who are in these startups as well as those who want to enter the niche. Thank you guys for your work despite low engagement! 💖
