    This was a very constructive class. Thank you for highlighting the differest steps deeply and in a simplified way.
    Question:
    When you raise a fund and LPs put in their money, does the payout come only once-at the end of the cycle e.g. 10 years; or does it come in stages e.g. once you exit different startups in the portfolio managed by the fund then the LPs receive their profits per exit? I'm asking this on the premise that one fund will invest in a portfolio of several startups.

    • @asab3272
      @asab3272 4 หลายเดือนก่อน

      From my understanding, it's usually when there's an IPO or exit or liquidation event, which can pressure companies to grow quickly so that they can generate a return for the firm. I think 7 years is typically the liquidation goal.

    I love the way VCs justify their fees. The team is really expensive (mostly me and a few analysts and secretaries). Let me take $60 million off the table for that team. Harvard Business Review (as opposed to VC backed or reliant publications) states "We found that the overall performance of the industry is poor... The average fund... breaks even or loses money." The biggest problem is that you find out 10 years later whether your investment in a VC fund was a good one. VC returns are going to be wrecked as interest rates increase.
