I HATE the huntsman who trained her. He was aware of her situation and left her in it. She may be a villain now but damn, as a child she deserved a lot better. All the adults in her life failed her.
Just a reminder: Cinder’s backstory isn’t there to redeem her. It’s there to understand her. It says why she desires power, why she demands control and why she despises the world. It does not say that she is right for doing so, but why she thinks she’s right for doing so.
I think it’s because even if he had Cinder’s consent, so long as Cinder’s adoptive mother doesn’t give hers, he’d still be accountable for kidnapping.🤨 That isn’t to say giving Cinder a weapon is not legal either, but it was easier to get away with than taking her with him. Cinder’s “mom” would immediately know if Cinder were to leave and have him labeled a criminal. Training her in secret until she was 18 must’ve just seemed the best option to him.
Cinder was legally adopted by the woman, so he couldn't just take her away from the Hotel despite knowing about her situation. Training her to be a Huntress was the best he could do for her. By doing so, he made it so Cinder could have a goal she can strive towards to make the abuse more bearable, and he made it so she could survive on her own once she was a legal adult.
Cinder was the true winner of this volume. Salem may have gotten the lamp and the staff, Ruby and the others may have gotten most of Atlas and Mantle to safety, but it's Cinder who came out of the worst spiral in the show and emerged with the most influence she's had yet. She's gotten rid of [in her eyes] Ruby, Neopolitan, and Watts all in one go, and she's even lied to Salem's face and gotten away with it. She's the most dangerous she's ever been. I haven't even seen the entire video yet, but I know it'll be incredible - thank you for making content for us struggling through the hiatus !
Well I wouldn't say Cinder got away with lying to Salem because Salem isn't stupid she knows Cinder lied. She will meet her penance sometime in V9 or later I just know it. But yeah she pretty much took up the main villain behind this volume.
Do you really think cinder got away with lying to Salem??, Salem clearly froud when Cinder lied, she knew exactly what cinder was doing, but Salem ain't stupid, she knows she needs cinder for the beacon relic, so Salem is more than happy to play Cinder game a little longer. Once Salem gets the beacon relic, it over for cinder, Salem will end her quickly.
PS , Cinder was not the winner of last volume, her aim was to get the maiden powers and she failed yet again. Salem got exactly what she wanted and that was the relics
@@jimfox1477 Well I guess she won by a LANDSLIDE and only won thanks to Neo and Watts. In the end RWBY and the others still got the Atlas and Mantle to safety and she didn't get the winter maiden powers so yeah, she's bound to get what's coming to her in V9.
As others have noted, Cinder was really the main character of Volume 8 and I am fine with this. V8 has a lot of moving parts, but I do think that Cinder's part of the story is the most congruous. It is a bold move to continue to invest so much time and energy into a character so much of the fanbase can't stand. That proves to me that the writers don't pander to the fans, if that were the case Cinder would have died back in V5 and they are telling the story they want. For my part, I was never really interested in Cinder as a character until V4 and afterwards and just like having Dr. Watts as my favorite villain from V4 onwards paid off, so did being invested in Cinder's story. I greatly look forward to seeing where it goes from here.
Imagine if they decided to do a small story/arc where they placed Cinder as the protagonist without any focus on the heroes. Similar to what My Hero Academia did in season 5.
Oh they do pander to the fans, but it's clear they either like Cinder, didn't know when to bring in her backstory or just didn't know how to write her past until Volume 8. CWBY have shown many times in their writing that they're making this up as they go, but I do like the dedication they have for Cinder, even if her backstory was lack luster and very stupid when it came to her teacher. Remember that she never spoke in Volume 1 nor had a face, and in Volume 3 and 5 they could have killed her off.
@@Thompson98PL the entire finale was one massive contrivance to have her “win”. It’s like a character called Prometheus from DC Comics, the difference between them being that Prometheus is ultimately killed by Green Arrow.

Cinder has been many things in her life thus far: A orphan, a maid (child slave), a apprentice, a murderer, a servant, a saviour, a maiden, a saboteur, a (Grimm)hybrid, a monster, and an outcast. Though thinking about it now, brings me back to volume 5 episode 5, Blake's talk with Sun about what one word would embody certain people made me think about what word would describe Cinder. The one constant common theme in Cinder's backstory, character arc, and life in general thus far as well I would say is "Betrayal".
One thing I really liked about Cinder in this volume that I don't see a lot of people talking about is her facial expressions. The animators did a really good job at letting her show emotion without having her say anything, it gives her some depth as well as vulnerability. They show that even though she talks all high-and-mighty (as well as cocky) she is still vulnerable and she fears about having her power taken away from her despite working really hard in getting it.

I never hated her as a character or even villain. But I have to admit she did kinda fall flat for a bit writing wise. I truly enjoyed seeing her plot develop quite a lot in this volume. And I can’t wait to see more now that she has risen this high! Thanks for making this! Sidenote, I really wish she had a better life. I found a surprisingly well written AU and it shows that she could’ve had something so much better.
I never gave up on her character after Volume 5 like many people did, though I do admit her arc from volume to volume was getting a bit stale. But Cinder really impressed me in Volumes 7 and 8, and I’d even say she’s one of my favorite characters now. Major props to Jessica Nigri’s improvement over the years as well. Excited for whatever her future holds in V9, if we even see much of her, and beyond.
I gave up on Cinder in V5, I really didn't want her back, I guess I will never like this character regardless of what RT do with her. At this stage i think cinder is a detriment to the plot, every scene cinder is in makes the show lose creditability.
@Books and Tv Geek I rewatched Attack on titans over the weekend and I had Rwby in mind when watching it. Honestly the standard of rwbys storytelling and development is shocking when you compare it to other storys/animes I feel like Cinder is an insult to my intelligence at time, I keep telling myself , how do these writers get away with it. Cinders character is for children in the 7 to 10 age bracket, she has nothing about her, she as simple a villian as you could get. Honestly my head hurts just thinking about cinder. We'll let's see what CRWBY do with Salem, I hope they put some respect on Salem's name after what they did to her Volume 8 If people like Cinders character, that's fine , I'm not trying to insult anybody or make anyone feel small, but Cinder is just not for me.

People says that she loses too many time but in actuality she has enough small wins to even out her major losses. She is the type of villain that won’t quit that gets dangerous each time she returns and gets more hungry for power. They gave us the reason why she wants power you can feel sorry for her if you want but we know understand why she wants it and see her blinded by the truth that she is once again a slave but only with perks. Also again if ever watch one piece then you understand that her Flashback just wasn’t rushed.

Power was made her into a slave and then it helped her be free but now she is a slave for power which is why she works for Salem but she’s blinded by Salem mind manipulation to she’s a slave again. It’s not that hard to understand.
The fact that Cinder says "without you, I am nothing" to Salem which is the same thing she said to her evil stepmother before killing her makes me think that Cinder will betray Salem at some point, because Salem keeps preventing her from getting what she wants like how she refused to allow Cinder to go after the Winter Maiden. I think there's a chance they will fight at some point, because Salem either is well-aware Cinder lied or will find out, and there's also the possibility I previously mentioned of Cinder betraying Salem first for her own gain.
@@dannylin5980 Vol 9 would most likely reveal something that could stop Salem. Salem herself reminds me of 2 anime villains, and those two are Zeref from Fairy Tail and Kaguya from Naruto. Zeref and Salem’s similarities are they both tried to bring their loved ones back from the dead but got cursed with immortality as a punishment. And as for her similarities with Kaguya they are both immortal beings, who became stronger after gaining more power, and both are the most powerful beings in their respective series.
its clear cinder's need for power comes from her traumatic childhood. She was always powerless and she thinks absolute power over others will make her happy. But at this point she has abandoned all her allies and whats the use of being all powerful if you're alone in the end? I notice during her fight with penny she is a total hypocrite. Calling penny a tool to be used, she is projecting. I know she 'serves' salem but she is only doing that to serve herself, since she is disobeying salem's orders behind her back. Its clear she does see salem as more powerful and it makes her revert back to a weak submissive person like she was as a child but I think she thinks she can also manipulate salem and get what she wants out of her. Cinder definitely was the MVP of this volume, she got almost everything she wanted but I think her luck is going to run out soon. I just wonder who will be the one to take her down for good.
It will most likely be either Jaune, Ruby, Yang after she gets the maiden power from Cinder killing Raven, Salem, or Cinder herself destroying herself by trying to hold too many maiden powers at once. Actually, knowing Salem, she will probably choose to just turn Cinder into a more horrific type of grimm with no free will.

I feel so bad for Cinder at 15:00. It’s not like we don’t know what happened. She was abused, being treated like a dog, and wasn't liked from anyone really...so from that point of view, it is very easy to go in that dark place and feel like everyone would dislike or betray you. And yeah. So her thirst for power is understandable. But without Salem…. She wouldn’t be able to obtain the maidens power in the first place.
This Volume was where Cinder truly shined in my opinion. She managed to make Ironwood lose his humanity, get Atlas to come Crashing down onto Mantle, Partially discredit RWBY and co as well as getting rid of Deadweight in the process
True. If she wants Salem's full attention, then she's only got two pieces of competition left at this point: Mercury and Tyrian, and the 'Remnants' of Team ORNJE.
Salem’s conversation with Cinder in the very first scene very much echoes how Cinder treated Torchwick in volume 2. Especially when she says to Torchwick that “You’ll know what you need when you need to know it”
I think the biggest takeaway from this is that Cinder may be as hard to take care of as Salem herself. This is a woman who has been broken by the world so many times that even if you could technically “repair” her, the cracks will still be there and make whatever was put back together an ugly mess. I don’t know how to solve the Cinder Problem without tragedy, and ultimately that’s the Happy Never Again the intro talked about.
If someone could shatter her extremely skewed worldview, she could potentially be saved. The only one I can think of to do that would be Ruby, personally. Until they introduced her backstory, I figured tragic death was her end game. They'd introduce some version of the Cinderella story with a twist, reveal her as more sympathetic than she initially appeared to be and then she'd die towards the series conclusion, likely do to her own actions. That's basically what we got; it was definitely Cinderella with a twist, but the twist was rather extreme. She didn't stand a chance considering her circumstances. I'd like to see her offered one, at the very least.
What I really like about this story is that they didn't try making Cinder sympathetic. Of course, they showed where she attained most of her issues, but they clearly realize that she isn't a character to be redeemed despite her suffering. Hell, they even sort of say it in-universe in Watts' rant. And considering how every fucking show tries to make one of the main villains sympathetic recently it's really refreshing having them show restrain on Cinder
Did they? I got a different feeling for it. In my opinion, I felt like they really were trying to make me feel sympathetic towards her, but it just didn’t work. I mean just look at what her backstory is. She’s a slave and sold. She’s hungry, tired and frightened, but all she got were the scraps of other people. In my opinion, it’s trying to give us the “she had a hard life” scenario. And while it is definitely sad, it just doesn’t feel like it fits in the context of the world. It’s more the kind if situation you’d expect a faunus to have in atlas. That and well… it just feels generic. Kinda like how people were upset at Jiren’s backstory in DBS. I’m just here thinking… that’s it?
They do make her sympathetic. They just don't make her JUSTIFIED. Those are entirely different issues. They give her depth and sympathetic scenes while showing that she is still a monster. Its like nowhere king from centaurworld
What made her sympathtic to me was her abandoning her show of bravado and sitting down in defeat for Watts to see. She let him live, she apologized to Neo, and they had a fun little time razing the command room together. Of course it ended up being all part of her plan to get their trust and discard them after they had no use to her. That part really made me sad because even if Cinder was still evil and hurting people i kinda wanted her to have some nice meaningful connections with other people 🥺

Cinder is what Catra could've been without Adora being around to steer her down the right path. A very rocky path, but still. Also, that green haired girl reminds me of Scorpia.

When I learned about Cinder Fall's backstory, I feel very sorry for her and I still do. Her life was nothing but rage, pain, and suffering, and she wants to end it by having power. I'm curious on how her story will end, and I believe that Team RWBY is caple of defeating her and Salem.
Honestly Cinder is trying to fill a cup with no bottom. No matter how much power she tries to get it will never be enough and she will still be miserable because of everything she sacrificed along the way. In the end, she'll destroy herself and it will be both cathartic and tragic to watch.

Something tells me Cinder is willingly putting herself in this situation to overthrow Salem. RWBY are her main rivals but Salem is who she really wants. Cinder wants power and Salem holds it the most in her eye.
Cinder is like the dark version of jaune both similar in the beginning but the difference is Jaune doesn’t have an ego and I hope jaune will finally kill her for all the lives she’s has taken for her desires for power
I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again, Cinder was the main character of Volume 8 and that decision really helped this volume stand out in a major way Like the music that plays when Cinder, Neo and Watts ask Jim the question, that’s not the theme of a diabolical mastermind preparing to destroy everything, it’s elegant and uplifting with very little sinister overtones unless you’re watching the scene itself

Well I gotta say, Cinder was truly the protagonist of this volume and would like to see what her journey in Vacuo will be like. Although, it could be a matter of time until she gets what she deserves. She's bound to get the consequences to her actions at some point.
Cinder is way better character than most people give her credit for. I really love controversial characters. Personalities written in a way that you know she does bad things but you can understand the reason behind them. All I want to see is the moment when Cinder breaks and starts to fight against herself, against her past. We saw quite a few moments already when she really started to doubt herself. But, considering how many bad things she did already, even if she turns against Salem, I'm pretty sure she'll get killed soon after that. That's just a common thing.
I wish they didn't gebait us with that epic speech Watts made. It looked like Cinder actually changed for a moment, using her teammates in competent ways. And then she just reverts at the end. She was becoming a more developed character, but just fliped suddenly. If your arguing Watts and Neo had no value left, there are still 2 more relics from my understanding. They 1000% could have helped with that. If she want's to become a more imposing villain like Salem, she must learn that there is more than one use for any particular thing.

@@rileyduncan3927 Salem is more powerful for sure, but Cinder is more effective. The writers I think are building up to Salem eventually being convinced/reasoned with since she can’t be killed. Cinder is more of a direct threat to RWBY, and is already capable of tricking and manipulating Salem, and once she inevitably gets the powers of the other Maidens (and regains control over her body), she could find a way to one-up her.

@@catherga And what did you think about Winter becoming the new Winter Maiden? Ironwood molded her entire military career and dictated her destiny to become the next Winter Maiden but she got the power she saw it as a gift. A real leader should know that destiny is beyond their control.
I personally think Cinder will play a vital role in ultimately weakening Salem, but she will still die in the process, going out in a blaze of glory and refusing to apologize for anything.
Ruby had a small window to use silver eyes on Cinder in the void pathways before Neapolitan attacked her. Too bad she did not get many chances to practice it beforehand. Ruby is much more tuned to use her molecular speed semblance.
Volume 8 is where Cinder became the formidable villain and worthy of her power. Cinder might become powerful enough of rival Salem and destroy the world herself. She has already starting to deceive Salem.

I felt bad about Cinder's past, her mother-in-law treated her as a slave & her two siblings didn't like her Everything's that happened to Cinder during her childhood I blamed her mother-in-law for mistreated her & especially the Huntsman for not showing her the good way. I blamed the Huntsman because he thought Cinder how to use a sword, if I was the Huntsman I will ask Cinder's mother-in-law if I could buy her or I will just escape with her, raise her myself & show her the good path. Cinder's bad past made her evil, she wants to be stronger, by becoming stronger she wants to make people fear her. I know in volume 9 Cinder will have a last battle with Ruby & I know Cinder will fall.
Welp, both Neo and Ruby fell into the void, so it only makes sense that both of them will be alive. So 2 things could happen. 1. Neo attacks Ruby, and Ruby convinces her that she did not kill Roman Torchwick, or 2. Yang and Blake help kill Neo since Neo starts being bloodthirsty and unreasonable.

In a way she's like the Vegeta of the series to me. There are moments where I strongly dislike her, am tired of her caca, and want her to face consequences, but she's also an entertaining and interesting jerk who has just become so much a part of the culture of the show.
The fact that Cinder, a child who likely hadn’t been fully trained, was able to break a fully trained and experienced huntsman’s aura isn’t showing that she’s strong or that he was going soft on her. It’s showing that the show doesn’t always show consistency in characters’ abilities.
Yeah Volume 8 was Cinder's final chance to actually rub her brain cells together and rather than play it smart she went for short term gains in exchange for, Long term Suffering when Salem finds out she practically lied about Ruby she'll piece together she lied about the Lamp too and she is not going to be a happy camper.
If they were all dead than it would be a long term victory. But at the same time would Salem really be mad that ruby is still alive? She never wanted ruby dead in the first place and she still has two relics. She would only be mad if she finds out cinder used the last question. But who is gonna tell Salem that? Only people who are alive and know are team rwby. And if they tell Salem that cinder lied that would just lead Salem to force cinder to tell her the passcode which the good guys don’t want.
I never quite understood the love an and adoration some in the fandom had for Cinder; especially given her role and actions. But I'm glad now, to have a better understanding and appreciation for her character.

Somebody on another video made a great comment and said the reason why Cinder killed Watts was because he witnessed her using the lamp’s final question and he knows that he can use that against her later on down the line. Because of that, Cinder would get severely disciplined for disobeying Salem. Cinder is definitely getting her comeuppance at some point. Salem is gonna take her down, I can feel it coming. It’s gonna be exciting to see how that turns out.
I’m surprised that when most people talk about her character in this volume, they ‘only’ talk about her backstory. I’ll admit, her past was a bit underwhelming, and I would’ve liked to see how she came to meet Salem. Other than that, she absolutely shined this volume! I enjoy Cinder the best when she’s in a state of weakness, and being talked down too (which isn’t an insult). It shows her for the pathetic weakling she really is, behind that facade. Here, she’s finally growing from it. Seeing her face the truth; that she’s done nothing but make mistakes to this point was SO satisfying. I really hope her writing is going in the direction it should. I wasn’t the biggest fan of the writing in general this volume, (even if it had good moments) but Cinder’s journey was easily one of my favorite parts from it all.

Firstly, I'mStrange...... This is the best of your series so far!!! The real rise of Cinder has been long overdue and you captured it very well. Secondly...... I've hated Cinder from Volume 2!!! Not just has a villian but as a 'Bull in a china shop'-type villian!! But, Volumes 7 & 8 finally made her not just a true villian..... Now, Cinder is a credible THREAT to everyone..... Including Salem!!! Which brings me to this. Not only did she save her butt by gaining both relics, finish off the headgames on Ironwood she started back in Volume 3, and cast off many of her rivals to Salem's trust..... Cinder now has some of 3 out of 4 Maiden Powers in her!!! Remember, she drained some from both Raven & Penny. That plus the full powers of the Fall Maiden makes her very dangerous!! So, keep that in mind for the next two Volumes..... And hope Salem realizes this as well. Oh..... Much love to Jessica Nigri!! Some of her best VA work of her career!! And sorry, guys..... Excited to see Cinder’s lie exposed when Team RWBY and co. returns to Remnant. Unless Salem already knows Cinder is lying via the Grimm arm or realizing that Winter is the new maiden instead of Penny. Although, I doubt the latter matters now since Salem has the relic.
I wouldn't really call Cinder's story a journey, since that implies many twists and turns along the way. It's more of a straight line from point A to point B.
Basically because she had been told the truth that she's known all along herself, but she had been avoiding it until Watts screamed it at her. It was a moment of vulnerability.

I HATE the huntsman who trained her. He was aware of her situation and left her in it. She may be a villain now but damn, as a child she deserved a lot better. All the adults in her life failed her.
Just a reminder: Cinder’s backstory isn’t there to redeem her. It’s there to understand her. It says why she desires power, why she demands control and why she despises the world. It does not say that she is right for doing so, but why she thinks she’s right for doing so.

I think it’s because even if he had Cinder’s consent, so long as Cinder’s adoptive mother doesn’t give hers, he’d still be accountable for kidnapping.🤨 That isn’t to say giving Cinder a weapon is not legal either, but it was easier to get away with than taking her with him. Cinder’s “mom” would immediately know if Cinder were to leave and have him labeled a criminal. Training her in secret until she was 18 must’ve just seemed the best option to him.
Cinder was legally adopted by the woman, so he couldn't just take her away from the Hotel despite knowing about her situation. Training her to be a Huntress was the best he could do for her. By doing so, he made it so Cinder could have a goal she can strive towards to make the abuse more bearable, and he made it so she could survive on her own once she was a legal adult.

Cinder was the true winner of this volume. Salem may have gotten the lamp and the staff, Ruby and the others may have gotten most of Atlas and Mantle to safety, but it's Cinder who came out of the worst spiral in the show and emerged with the most influence she's had yet. She's gotten rid of [in her eyes] Ruby, Neopolitan, and Watts all in one go, and she's even lied to Salem's face and gotten away with it. She's the most dangerous she's ever been.

Well I wouldn't say Cinder got away with lying to Salem because Salem isn't stupid she knows Cinder lied. She will meet her penance sometime in V9 or later I just know it. But yeah she pretty much took up the main villain behind this volume.
But if Salem finds out that Cinder is lying, she'll beat her up. Like how Megatron beats up Starscream in Transformers.

PS , Cinder was not the winner of last volume, her aim was to get the maiden powers and she failed yet again. Salem got exactly what she wanted and that was the relics
@@jimfox1477 Well I guess she won by a LANDSLIDE and only won thanks to Neo and Watts. In the end RWBY and the others still got the Atlas and Mantle to safety and she didn't get the winter maiden powers so yeah, she's bound to get what's coming to her in V9.
As others have noted, Cinder was really the main character of Volume 8 and I am fine with this. V8 has a lot of moving parts, but I do think that Cinder's part of the story is the most congruous. It is a bold move to continue to invest so much time and energy into a character so much of the fanbase can't stand. That proves to me that the writers don't pander to the fans, if that were the case Cinder would have died back in V5 and they are telling the story they want.
For my part, I was never really interested in Cinder as a character until V4 and afterwards and just like having Dr. Watts as my favorite villain from V4 onwards paid off, so did being invested in Cinder's story. I greatly look forward to seeing where it goes from here.
And pandering would create a bad story as well as bad characters in general.

Imagine if they decided to do a small story/arc where they placed Cinder as the protagonist without any focus on the heroes. Similar to what My Hero Academia did in season 5.
Oh they do pander to the fans, but it's clear they either like Cinder, didn't know when to bring in her backstory or just didn't know how to write her past until Volume 8. CWBY have shown many times in their writing that they're making this up as they go, but I do like the dedication they have for Cinder, even if her backstory was lack luster and very stupid when it came to her teacher. Remember that she never spoke in Volume 1 nor had a face, and in Volume 3 and 5 they could have killed her off.
Watts tearing into Cinder is one of the greatest things in the entire series.
Also, Mercury pulling out Zuko's not gonna taking orders moment with Ozai.

Cinder has been many things in her life thus far: A orphan, a maid (child slave), a apprentice, a murderer, a servant, a saviour, a maiden, a saboteur, a (Grimm)hybrid, a monster, and an outcast. Though thinking about it now, brings me back to volume 5 episode 5, Blake's talk with Sun about what one word would embody certain people made me think about what word would describe Cinder. The one constant common theme in Cinder's backstory, character arc, and life in general thus far as well I would say is "Betrayal".
One thing I really liked about Cinder in this volume that I don't see a lot of people talking about is her facial expressions. The animators did a really good job at letting her show emotion without having her say anything, it gives her some depth as well as vulnerability. They show that even though she talks all high-and-mighty (as well as cocky) she is still vulnerable and she fears about having her power taken away from her despite working really hard in getting it.
I still like whenever the smile on her face is all someone shes fighting needs to know she's about to do something devious lmao

I never hated her as a character or even villain. But I have to admit she did kinda fall flat for a bit writing wise. I truly enjoyed seeing her plot develop quite a lot in this volume. And I can’t wait to see more now that she has risen this high! Thanks for making this!
Sidenote, I really wish she had a better life. I found a surprisingly well written AU and it shows that she could’ve had something so much better.

I never gave up on her character after Volume 5 like many people did, though I do admit her arc from volume to volume was getting a bit stale. But Cinder really impressed me in Volumes 7 and 8, and I’d even say she’s one of my favorite characters now. Major props to Jessica Nigri’s improvement over the years as well.
Excited for whatever her future holds in V9, if we even see much of her, and beyond.
I gave up on Cinder in V5, I really didn't want her back, I guess I will never like this character regardless of what RT do with her. At this stage i think cinder is a detriment to the plot, every scene cinder is in makes the show lose creditability.

I feel like Cinder is an insult to my intelligence at time, I keep telling myself , how do these writers get away with it. Cinders character is for children in the 7 to 10 age bracket, she has nothing about her, she as simple a villian as you could get. Honestly my head hurts just thinking about cinder.

People says that she loses too many time but in actuality she has enough small wins to even out her major losses. She is the type of villain that won’t quit that gets dangerous each time she returns and gets more hungry for power. They gave us the reason why she wants power you can feel sorry for her if you want but we know understand why she wants it and see her blinded by the truth that she is once again a slave but only with perks. Also again if ever watch one piece then you understand that her Flashback just wasn’t rushed.

The fact that Cinder says "without you, I am nothing" to Salem which is the same thing she said to her evil stepmother before killing her makes me think that Cinder will betray Salem at some point, because Salem keeps preventing her from getting what she wants like how she refused to allow Cinder to go after the Winter Maiden. I think there's a chance they will fight at some point, because Salem either is well-aware Cinder lied or will find out, and there's also the possibility I previously mentioned of Cinder betraying Salem first for her own gain.

@@dannylin5980 Vol 9 would most likely reveal something that could stop Salem. Salem herself reminds me of 2 anime villains, and those two are Zeref from Fairy Tail and Kaguya from Naruto. Zeref and Salem’s similarities are they both tried to bring their loved ones back from the dead but got cursed with immortality as a punishment. And as for her similarities with Kaguya they are both immortal beings, who became stronger after gaining more power, and both are the most powerful beings in their respective series.
its clear cinder's need for power comes from her traumatic childhood. She was always powerless and she thinks absolute power over others will make her happy. But at this point she has abandoned all her allies and whats the use of being all powerful if you're alone in the end?
I notice during her fight with penny she is a total hypocrite. Calling penny a tool to be used, she is projecting. I know she 'serves' salem but she is only doing that to serve herself, since she is disobeying salem's orders behind her back. Its clear she does see salem as more powerful and it makes her revert back to a weak submissive person like she was as a child but I think she thinks she can also manipulate salem and get what she wants out of her.
Cinder definitely was the MVP of this volume, she got almost everything she wanted but I think her luck is going to run out soon. I just wonder who will be the one to take her down for good.
It will most likely be either Jaune, Ruby, Yang after she gets the maiden power from Cinder killing Raven, Salem, or Cinder herself destroying herself by trying to hold too many maiden powers at once. Actually, knowing Salem, she will probably choose to just turn Cinder into a more horrific type of grimm with no free will.

I feel so bad for Cinder at 15:00. It’s not like we don’t know what happened. She was abused, being treated like a dog, and wasn't liked from anyone really...so from that point of view, it is very easy to go in that dark place and feel like everyone would dislike or betray you. And yeah. So her thirst for power is understandable. But without Salem…. She wouldn’t be able to obtain the maidens power in the first place.
This Volume was where Cinder truly shined in my opinion. She managed to make Ironwood lose his humanity, get Atlas to come Crashing down onto Mantle, Partially discredit RWBY and co as well as getting rid of Deadweight in the process

I think the biggest takeaway from this is that Cinder may be as hard to take care of as Salem herself.
This is a woman who has been broken by the world so many times that even if you could technically “repair” her, the cracks will still be there and make whatever was put back together an ugly mess.
I don’t know how to solve the Cinder Problem without tragedy, and ultimately that’s the Happy Never Again the intro talked about.
If someone could shatter her extremely skewed worldview, she could potentially be saved. The only one I can think of to do that would be Ruby, personally. Until they introduced her backstory, I figured tragic death was her end game. They'd introduce some version of the Cinderella story with a twist, reveal her as more sympathetic than she initially appeared to be and then she'd die towards the series conclusion, likely do to her own actions. That's basically what we got; it was definitely Cinderella with a twist, but the twist was rather extreme. She didn't stand a chance considering her circumstances. I'd like to see her offered one, at the very least.
What I really like about this story is that they didn't try making Cinder sympathetic. Of course, they showed where she attained most of her issues, but they clearly realize that she isn't a character to be redeemed despite her suffering. Hell, they even sort of say it in-universe in Watts' rant. And considering how every fucking show tries to make one of the main villains sympathetic recently it's really refreshing having them show restrain on Cinder
Did they? I got a different feeling for it. In my opinion, I felt like they really were trying to make me feel sympathetic towards her, but it just didn’t work.
I mean just look at what her backstory is. She’s a slave and sold. She’s hungry, tired and frightened, but all she got were the scraps of other people.
In my opinion, it’s trying to give us the “she had a hard life” scenario. And while it is definitely sad, it just doesn’t feel like it fits in the context of the world. It’s more the kind if situation you’d expect a faunus to have in atlas.
That and well… it just feels generic. Kinda like how people were upset at Jiren’s backstory in DBS. I’m just here thinking… that’s it?

What made her sympathtic to me was her abandoning her show of bravado and sitting down in defeat for Watts to see. She let him live, she apologized to Neo, and they had a fun little time razing the command room together. Of course it ended up being all part of her plan to get their trust and discard them after they had no use to her. That part really made me sad because even if Cinder was still evil and hurting people i kinda wanted her to have some nice meaningful connections with other people 🥺

When I learned about Cinder Fall's backstory, I feel very sorry for her and I still do. Her life was nothing but rage, pain, and suffering, and she wants to end it by having power. I'm curious on how her story will end, and I believe that Team RWBY is caple of defeating her and Salem.
What I want is for Ruby to take the Fall Maiden powers from Cinder that would be cool.

Honestly Cinder is trying to fill a cup with no bottom. No matter how much power she tries to get it will never be enough and she will still be miserable because of everything she sacrificed along the way. In the end, she'll destroy herself and it will be both cathartic and tragic to watch.

I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again, Cinder was the main character of Volume 8 and that decision really helped this volume stand out in a major way
Like the music that plays when Cinder, Neo and Watts ask Jim the question, that’s not the theme of a diabolical mastermind preparing to destroy everything, it’s elegant and uplifting with very little sinister overtones unless you’re watching the scene itself

Well I gotta say, Cinder was truly the protagonist of this volume and would like to see what her journey in Vacuo will be like. Although, it could be a matter of time until she gets what she deserves. She's bound to get the consequences to her actions at some point.
Cinder is way better character than most people give her credit for. I really love controversial characters. Personalities written in a way that you know she does bad things but you can understand the reason behind them. All I want to see is the moment when Cinder breaks and starts to fight against herself, against her past. We saw quite a few moments already when she really started to doubt herself. But, considering how many bad things she did already, even if she turns against Salem, I'm pretty sure she'll get killed soon after that. That's just a common thing.
I wouldn't mind seeing her become an anti-hero. Still a kickass jerk, but completely against Salem.
I wish they didn't gebait us with that epic speech Watts made. It looked like Cinder actually changed for a moment, using her teammates in competent ways. And then she just reverts at the end. She was becoming a more developed character, but just fliped suddenly. If your arguing Watts and Neo had no value left, there are still 2 more relics from my understanding. They 1000% could have helped with that. If she want's to become a more imposing villain like Salem, she must learn that there is more than one use for any particular thing.

@@rileyduncan3927 Salem is more powerful for sure, but Cinder is more effective. The writers I think are building up to Salem eventually being convinced/reasoned with since she can’t be killed. Cinder is more of a direct threat to RWBY, and is already capable of tricking and manipulating Salem, and once she inevitably gets the powers of the other Maidens (and regains control over her body), she could find a way to one-up her.

@@catherga And what did you think about Winter becoming the new Winter Maiden? Ironwood molded her entire military career and dictated her destiny to become the next Winter Maiden but she got the power she saw it as a gift. A real leader should know that destiny is beyond their control.
I personally think Cinder will play a vital role in ultimately weakening Salem, but she will still die in the process, going out in a blaze of glory and refusing to apologize for anything.

I felt bad about Cinder's past, her mother-in-law treated her as a slave & her two siblings didn't like her Everything's that happened to Cinder during her childhood I blamed her mother-in-law for mistreated her & especially the Huntsman for not showing her the good way.
I blamed the Huntsman because he thought Cinder how to use a sword, if I was the Huntsman I will ask Cinder's mother-in-law if I could buy her or I will just escape with her, raise her myself & show her the good path. Cinder's bad past made her evil, she wants to be stronger, by becoming stronger she wants to make people fear her.
I know in volume 9 Cinder will have a last battle with Ruby & I know Cinder will fall.
Welp, both Neo and Ruby fell into the void, so it only makes sense that both of them will be alive.
So 2 things could happen.
1. Neo attacks Ruby, and Ruby convinces her that she did not kill Roman Torchwick, or
2. Yang and Blake help kill Neo since Neo starts being bloodthirsty and unreasonable.

Am I the only one who doesn’t hate cinder I know she’s a villain and all but Damm she is pretty
Being evil is okay if you're pretty.
In a way she's like the Vegeta of the series to me. There are moments where I strongly dislike her, am tired of her caca, and want her to face consequences, but she's also an entertaining and interesting jerk who has just become so much a part of the culture of the show.
The fact that Cinder, a child who likely hadn’t been fully trained, was able to break a fully trained and experienced huntsman’s aura isn’t showing that she’s strong or that he was going soft on her. It’s showing that the show doesn’t always show consistency in characters’ abilities.

In her backstory, I'm not sure who I hated the most her stepfamily or the Huntsman that didn't do much other than train her.

Yeah Volume 8 was Cinder's final chance to actually rub her brain cells together and rather than play it smart she went for short term gains in exchange for,
Long term Suffering when Salem finds out she practically lied about Ruby she'll piece together she lied about the Lamp too and she is not going to be a happy camper.
Cinder thinks she did kill Team RWBY. There's no lie there. She's wrong but she doesn't know it.
If they were all dead than it would be a long term victory.
But at the same time would Salem really be mad that ruby is still alive? She never wanted ruby dead in the first place and she still has two relics.
She would only be mad if she finds out cinder used the last question. But who is gonna tell Salem that? Only people who are alive and know are team rwby. And if they tell Salem that cinder lied that would just lead Salem to force cinder to tell her the passcode which the good guys don’t want.
I never quite understood the love an and adoration some in the fandom had for Cinder; especially given her role and actions. But I'm glad now, to have a better understanding and appreciation for her character.

Did you know that Cinder is short for Cinderella, which means that Cinder is actually a evil version of Cinderella and I am the only one who saw this!
Somebody on another video made a great comment and said the reason why Cinder killed Watts was because he witnessed her using the lamp’s final question and he knows that he can use that against her later on down the line. Because of that, Cinder would get severely disciplined for disobeying Salem.
Cinder is definitely getting her comeuppance at some point. Salem is gonna take her down, I can feel it coming. It’s gonna be exciting to see how that turns out.

I’m surprised that when most people talk about her character in this volume, they ‘only’ talk about her backstory. I’ll admit, her past was a bit underwhelming, and I would’ve liked to see how she came to meet Salem. Other than that, she absolutely shined this volume! I enjoy Cinder the best when she’s in a state of weakness, and being talked down too (which isn’t an insult). It shows her for the pathetic weakling she really is, behind that facade. Here, she’s finally growing from it. Seeing her face the truth; that she’s done nothing but make mistakes to this point was SO satisfying. I really hope her writing is going in the direction it should.
I wasn’t the biggest fan of the writing in general this volume, (even if it had good moments) but Cinder’s journey was easily one of my favorite parts from it all.
okay first the Hazel nazi thing that i commented but now i see the new Grimm creature that was an experiment, as a Panzerhund from Wolfenstein but with Black flesh/whateverthehellyoucallthat.

Firstly, I'mStrange...... This is the best of your series so far!!! The real rise of Cinder has been long overdue and you captured it very well.
Secondly...... I've hated Cinder from Volume 2!!! Not just has a villian but as a 'Bull in a china shop'-type villian!! But, Volumes 7 & 8 finally made her not just a true villian..... Now, Cinder is a credible THREAT to everyone..... Including Salem!!!
Which brings me to this. Not only did she save her butt by gaining both relics, finish off the headgames on Ironwood she started back in Volume 3, and cast off many of her rivals to Salem's trust..... Cinder now has some of 3 out of 4 Maiden Powers in her!!! Remember, she drained some from both Raven & Penny. That plus the full powers of the Fall Maiden makes her very dangerous!! So, keep that in mind for the next two Volumes..... And hope Salem realizes this as well.

Excited to see Cinder’s lie exposed when Team RWBY and co. returns to Remnant.
Unless Salem already knows Cinder is lying via the Grimm arm or realizing that Winter is the new maiden instead of Penny.
Although, I doubt the latter matters now since Salem has the relic.
I wouldn't really call Cinder's story a journey, since that implies many twists and turns along the way. It's more of a straight line from point A to point B.

Sort off kazuya was abused and rejected by his father for being part devil and his father repeatedly throw him off a cliff in attempt to kill only for kazuya to survive every time he became a man full of rage and revenge to the point where it’s impossible for him to change or move on and even after killing his father he’s now a power hungry man who will do anything for power and kill anyone who gets in his way he’s similar to cinder but is motivated differently
