This is, easily, the most tragic and affecting part of RWBY so far. Pyrra's heroism is extraordinary; she knew that her chances of winning were very low, but she went and did her duty anyway and performed extraordinarily well against a much more powerful enemy. I really miss the character and, while part of me hopes there will be some way to bring her back or give her a happy ending (Pyrra in the afterlife?) I know it would cheapen the story and the impact of her sacrifice. But I hope that, in the world of RWBY, the full extent of her heroism is fully understood someday. Yes, she has a statue in Argus but, at this point, the full story of what she was up against and what she did is not known to most people in the world of Remnant.
Gonna have to disagree here, there's nothing heroic about facing an evil that is literally so far away hat you'd make the effort to go there. Secondly, Pyrrha KNEW she wasn't going to win and she still went out of her way to fight Cinder. That's heroic in some circles but it's more reckless stupidity in most others. If Pyrrha had been more interesting and had a sort of lust for battle this whole scene would have made more sense. It'd also have been an amazing Vegeta/Escanor-esque moment where she realizes she does it more because it's the right way to approach a situation. More for others than for her own goals but we don't have that. She could have lived to fight another day but NOPE, as Jaune and Pyrrha's, probably, mother say: she did it even knowing she wasn't going to win. Which is beyond stupid. They made Pyrrha the ideal character who faces no real conflict and no she doesn't face conflict in the show because she has like 7 friends who don't care about her fame, sans may Weiss. I'd call her a Mary Sue but she's not. She's just... boring.

Just to state the obvious I’ll start with the fact that Pyrrha was turned to ash by Cinder as seen in the video above so there wouldn’t even be a body to convert. Also in volume 8, though not confirmed to be the case, Ruby speculated that it had to be people with silver eyes who were turned to Grimm which is why she broke at the thought of this happening to her mother.

But Ruby Rose was too late to save Pyrrha from her death in a Beacon but she was not fast enough to make it in time for Cinder Thanos to snap her, if she was like instead of being alive and then Jaunce will be killed by Cinderella in the battle of Beacon to upgrade her weapon with her boyfriend who died in the alternate universe or timeline for Salem having a Relic of Creation.
"Do you believe in destiny?" Pyrrha knew she was probably going to die in this fight. But ultimately, she did it anyway. She was buying someone time (she assumed Professor Goodwitch and co. but Ruby came quicker and did her silver eye trick). That's just straight up cold stone badass right there.
@@hiepdang719 I mean, debatable? I don't know what the long term plan was for stopping Cinder/stopping the grimm was if Ruby's silver eyes didn't do their neat little trick. Like, yeah, looking at this fight again, if Pyrrha had another fighter with her, they could've actually stood a chance at stopping/killing Cinder, but then, what can you do against that giant dragon? It doesn't change the fact Pyrrha was a fucking bamf during this fight.
@@hiepdang719 I personally think that if she fought a little bit smarter and crushed Cinder between two cogs rather than throwing them one by one, the fight could've gone to Pyrrha. Once Cinder's aura breaks, there's really nothing stopping the cogs from squishing her like a tube of toothpaste.
I look back at this and I realise how much cinde has changed. During this fight she still seems human but during volume 5 she moves like one of the Grimm. Also during volume 5 she also sounds a bit lifeless as well
well, you have to wonder what she had to sacrifice to make that grimm arm a part of her. Heck, even knowing HOW she originally stole the powers makes you wonder if she's losing her humanity.
But it's weird tho. Achilles is supposed to be the fastest hero in all of Greece on par with Atalanta as a sprinter but that sheer speed isn't demonstrated like with other characters.

Pyrrha was originally supposed to die in volume 2 but since her death wouldn't have made sense and been forced she was also a fan favorite Raven was supposed to kill her but fan favorite she let her live a bit longer
I always imagine that this fight would have been much harder for Cinder if Pyrrha was in peak form. The woman is sleep deprived while stretched to her mental and emotional limit. Imagine if Pyrrha had come to this fight with a clear head or better yet with an ally.
I think not lol. Cinder was toying with her did not even draw her weapon. Cinder with 1/2 maiden magic was able to rival against Glenda and able to take down a maiden herself. I highly doubt phyra at her peak was going to beat cinder with full fall maiden power

Even more sad is that Pyrrha basically died for nothing. She didn't stop Cinder, she didn't save the communications tower, and Beacon still fell. Yeah I guess she helped Ruby unlock her deus ex machina silver eyes, but that was definitely a... pyrrhic victory.
Pyrrhic Victory definition from Meriam Webster "A pyrrhic victory is a victory that comes at a great cost, perhaps making the ordeal to win not worth it." Not a victory thus not a pyrrhic victory. It's a tragedy. Pyrrha's pyrrhic victory comes from her life. She won her tournaments but resented where it put her. The tragedy of this scene is that she rejects the only choice that would have made her happy (staying with Jaune) in favour of buying into her own moniker and name, The Invincible Girl and her name which translates from Greek into English "Flame-haired champion of the people."
It was a pyrrhic victory alright... for Cinder. She managed to become the Fall Maiden, kill Ozpin, bring about the Fall of Beacon and kill Pyrrha. However, at the end of the day, killing Pyrrha caused Ruby to awaken as a Silver-Eyed Warrior, which in turn petrified the Grimm Wyvern, and, thanks to the method Cinder initially received half of the Fall Maiden's powers by that bettle creature, made Cinder just as vulnerable to the Silver Eyes. Ultimately, she lost her voice (which eventually came back), lost her arm and got it replaced with a Grimm arm and lost her left eye, to say nothing of it making her incredibly mentally unstable.
I would like to remind that Pyrrha was supposed to be on par with Cinder (who is a full maiden here). So... I guess Ozpin was right to have picked her to be the new Fall maiden.
Cinder wasn't even trying. She didn't get serious until the very end. She spends the entire time smirking and testing out the powers she just got, right after killing Ozpin. She was maybe on par with pre-Maiden Cinder.
@@boohoo723 Do remember that Pyrrha isn't at her best either. She had the mental strain of becoming a maiden and also had her mind messed with big time during the tournament. Phyrra knows she "can" win this fight, but she's not in the right state of mind to do so.
Ozpin had watched Pyrrha from afar for a while before deciding she was the right candidate for the Fall Maiden and knew her abilities and limitations, but even he told Pyrrha she would only be in the way of his battle with Cinder. I think even Ozpin knew he couldn't win solo and was only trying to buy time for back up. If Ozpin couldn't win, there is no chance Pyrrha would either. Cinder was playing throughout most of this match, she is sadistic in that way. She likes messing with people, giving them a bit of hope that maybe they can win, before snuffing it out.
A possible reference i find in that, althought im probably over thinking it, is that it reminds me of how glynda attacks the plane Cinder and Roman are. Notice how glynda throws one of the tendril/projectiles, Cinder breaks it with one of her attacks, but it reconects, the same way the arrow does
Notice how Pyrrha went in immediately utilizing her polarity semblance in a highly visible way rather than holding back or keeping it subtle, probably a first for her against a human opponent. She is here for blood.
@@justindeliwe8065 Blood does hold actual Iron, the quantity is incredibly small but the human body does indeed have Iron in it, it's not just the same name but the same element. I guess that it would be true that Pyrrah could have used her Polarity on people if iron was more abundant in the body.
When Pyrrha died, the show lose their symbol of strength. She was the most powerful student and possibly could’ve been the most powerful fighter to exist. Cinder needed maiden powers and still almost lost to a teenager. When Penny died, it was the shows loss of innocence. She was a robot with little life experience and saw the world differently.
2:49 I remember when I first saw this.... I did not expect this. Also RWBY was that show I watched with my younger siblings a lot bc it was more child friendly than the other stuff I was into. Then this happened, and we were beyond shocked. The show has changed a lot since volumes 1-3, and as my siblings have grown up watching the show until volume 8 has been pretty fun since they understand things better now too.
Honestly tho. I still remember when my grown adult ass first saw this scene. It had been getting darker throughout the volume, sure, but at no point did I believe they would actually conclude Pyrrha's storyline this way. I was convinced, considering the type of series it had been up until the latter half of V3, that Ruby would make it just in time. In true anime heroine fashion. After the arrow hit Pyrrha I just stared in open-mouthed shock at my screen until the credits rolled. One of, if not the most memorable viewing experience I've had. Honestly V3 is top tier RWBY for me. The mood whiplash in the latter half of the volume was visceral. And I loved it
Two questions: 1. Why the fuck didn’t Pyrrha use her shield as a shield instead of an attack frisbee 2. She threw the attack frisbee directly at Cinder, where the fuck did it go?
Looking back at it, it was Pyrrha’s good nature that got her killed. She believed Jaune was going to contact Glenda and the others to send help. And so you can see that she tried to trap Cinder. She had the advantage and she had Cinder pinned and helpless. Had she completely released the full power of her semblance, I believe she could have killed Cinder by crushing her, but her good nature and conscious prevented her from doing so.
Cinder wasn't injured at all not was she going all out she was toying with Pyrrha she might have gotten a few lucky hits but Cinder still had full aura unlike Pyrrha
It's been god knows how many years since I last saw this (6? 7?), but even knowing the outcome, I still feel a burn in my chest. There's just something really sad about watching this, you know? Pyrrha, not only did she fight against a really strong enemy, while worn out, but... She had to do it all alone, without her beloved team JNPR to back her up. Without her teachers. Without a single friend. I realized something I didn't before, Pyrrha died all alone... Though she clasps onto hope, it's probably awful feeling, not dying in the arms of anyone who cared..
People are really out here in the comments being totally cool with the idea of an arrow being disintegrated mid-air, then reformed with the exact same forward force like half a second later- but also changing the arrow’s trajectory is where they draw the line of realism
Well, Pyrrha was based off of Achilles, so it makes sense for her Achilles’ tendon to be her weakest place, but we all know that Arrow was Aimee closer to Pyrrahs chest
Cinder did the same thing with her dust when she fought Amber. Amber elevated that with the leaves when she was fighting Emerald and Mercury and she activated her maiden powers. So I think it changed how cinder manipulated dust in conjunction to the new power.
1:45 the fact that ik that anyone past volume 5 wouldn't be able to take a hit like this and still have their aura pisses me off They make the heroes look so weak
just realized....pyrrha is a great fighter....but that's only becuz her opponents had metal on them in some sort of fashion....but fighting cinder...shes at a huge disadvantage when she can't manipulate their movements via metal
Gstinger206 Fire will disrupt Metal. Unless if cinder used Wind or Ice magic would have lose to Pyhrra because Cinder wasn't great in combat skills. Not only that Wind wouldn't damage metal and ice ? I would say meh. Magnetism would becomes a lot stronger in Ice.

I'm not necessarily talking about tearing the iron out of Cinder's body like in X2, but more along the lines of how 616-Magneto can manipulate the iron and magnetic fields in someone's body to paralyze theme and/or shut their powers off. Yes, I know the other elements in the body the iron is bound to eliminate its magnetic properties. RWBY operates on Comic Book Logic, Rule of Cool, and Hollywood Science. Real-world scientific law has no place in this world.
Sorry, but you don't just manifest weapons. Even if so, Cinder doesn't have the reaction time and speed needed to crumble the arrow to pieces then put it back again. The shield should have damn well hit it. It was actually planned that Pyrrha's death would have been Jean's doing, by accident, and it would have spurred character development. Monty's original idea should have gone through. But now, Jean is even more flat. Honestly, Rooster Teeth needs to learn how to actually write RWBY decently if they're going to fuck over their head of development and whatnot for the show. I tried Volume 6. I couldn't do it after the depression town. I don't even know where it's heading anymore, but as long as RT gets paid, amirite?

That's certainly one way of putting it. Only in this case, it actually WAS mercy. A shot in the heart usually isn't nearly as quick, clean, or painless as people like to believe, so Pyrrha being disintegrated saved her from a lot of pain.
And here we are, years later and Cinder has lost every fight she's been in. This is a slap in the face to Pyrrah and Ozpin being elite fighters that were killed by Cinder only to have her lose every fight afterwards. Also, did they forget how Pyrrah's sword can turn into a spear/javeline? Reach and speed would have helped in this fight. Writing is so shit.
I’m sorry, but which opponent Cinder has fought counts as a “slap in the face” to Pyrrah and Oz? Do you mean Raven, who’s a fully trained Huntress and who’s had her Maiden Powers far longer than Cinder has and STILL needed Vernal to distract her long enough for a finishing blow? Maybe you mean Winter, who is also a fully trained Huntress and a specialist in the Atlas military and who was almost killed by Cinder even with the assistance of Penny? Perhaps that’s who you mean. Penny, who is capable of holding off ALL FOUR of the remaining Ace-Ops, who are fully trained huntsman specialists and designed to work together perfectly, Penny who also has Maiden Powers and is literally built to be the ultimate Huntress? I think you need to get your eyes checked, because everyone except Raven (who still needed help in the end) were constantly on the defensive in their fights against Cinder. All of them have way more skill or at least are equal to Pyrrah in fighting prowess. The only reason Cinder lost her engagements with them was because she let her own personal flaws get in the way. With Raven, it was because Cinder let her rage cloud her judgment and failed to anticipate that Raven’s plans. With Penny and Winter, it was because instead of finishing Winter and Penny off, she turn to get Fria’s Maiden powers, and instead of killing Fria straight away, she started gloating about how much she deserved these powers and how she was going to take them (Just as she did with Pyrrah before she killed her), allowing Fria to regain her senses temporarily and use her own powers to smack Cinder away, which gave Penny and Winter the time to catch up and continue stalling until Ruby and Weiss showed up with the Silver Eyes. And finally with Penny’s rematch, Cinder underestimated Penny’s capabilities because she was a robot, Cinder outnumbered her with Emerald and because Cinder had more training with the Maiden Powers. She failed to anticipate Penny’s ability to see through Emerald’s illusion’s, which is how Penny got her lucky shot. Cinder loses because she allows her Arrogance and Rage to govern her actions, not because she doesn’t have the skills to do it. The writing in this case is fine, characters have flaws and Cinder has made no effort to overcome them. The issue is that you’ve completely written off Raven, Winter and Penny’s combat capabilities and misread Cinder’s failures as a slight on her skills rather than her person.
When Cinder lost her other fights, it wasn’t because she simply got the shit beaten out of her. She lost to Raven when Raven froze her, and she lost to Penny and Winter it was because Ruby showed up and used her silver eyes. With both Pyrrha and Ozpin, they were more straightforward with her having the advantage due to her maiden powers. Also, as far as we know, Ozpin could have pulled an Obi-Wan and let himself die.

You know, aside from the magic, Pyrrha is apparently winning. If she'd been a bit more focused with the gears, she quite likely could have broken Cinder's aura and killed her right there.
@@andyknightwarden9746 it wasn't volume 3 Cinder was skilled and already knew everything about Pyrrha and her title again she wasn't going all out and Cinder blasted the gears back instead of dodging she tried to block or slow the gear with her shield but all that did was finish off her aura leaving her exhausted and weak.
The gears did seem to catch cinder completely by surprise. That first gear slamming her down should have done more damage than it seemed to. I get that they wanted Cinder to be this invincible force of evil, but one gear broke Pyrrha's aura. Cinder should have been at least hurt.

Since he's her "inspiration" or whatever it's called. When Achilles cross dressed into a female, his name was Pyrrah. It's really cool how her character died the same way Achilles did. They were both skilled fighters who were nearly unstoppable, but their only limitation was their heel.
I keep thinking, if she hadn't thrown the shield and didn't get shot in the heel she could have survived just long enough to be helped by Ruby and it breaks my heart
That’s odd. They definitely weren’t there until Pyrrha asked her that question. Perhaps she was meant to be a more sympathetic character before Monty passed? Even his wife said that she felt like there was more to Cinder than meets the eye.
This is dark but I want Pyrrha to come back as a grimm for Jaune to kill. That would be, absolutely heart wrenching, but it will add SO MUCH to Jaunes story/plot.
@@shwunari Pyrrha's voice actor confirmed that Monty had told her she was going to die at the end of Season 3. She was always supposed to die. Honestly, an ace that good who is not the main character, not a rival, but is socially at the main character's level: set up the funeral pyre, she's going to die to drive the main character forward. Yes, it's a bit more of an ensemble cast but the tropes still stand. Side note: Monty's involvement in the plot seems to be complex and saying it changed after his death is flawed. He's not a writer, never was a writer. He had some overarching concepts and he kept coming up with new and cool ideas but it was always Kerry and Miles who took these ideas and turned it into plot. Obviously, that's not to say he had no impact upon it, but beats like Pyrrha's death are less likely to be his ideas than theirs as they're the ones who know the tropes and normal concepts and how to use them to evoke emotional responses. Criticisms of the fight choreography or animation make sense (people talk about how Monty clipped frames and he had a unique dance-battling style that people with more knowledge than me can spot) but I would generally caution on assumptions that the plot changed because Monty was no longer running the show.
eric23443219091 Aura works as a force field. Also why they can take bullets, sword slashes and shield bashes. After aura is depleted any hit could be fatal.

as much as I love RWBY to this day and will blindly continue to, the fight scenes 1-3 are the best. my favourite is ironwood and watts, but even then that's mostly them parkouring around shooting at each other to some badass music. awesome as fuck, but these fights are much better.

The new ones can come close to this (because holy crap the scene where they all gang up on Ironwood is so good), but that's an occasional flash in the pan compared to consistent quality. Honestly, I just want Rooster Teeth to finish RWBY so some other company can take over with a reboot before RT finally croaks with all the dumb business decisions they've made. It's unironically my favorite series, but it'd be better off as something completely fresh these days. The main core is just too banged up. It weathered losing Monty, the bullshit people tried to pull after he passed, it weathered KickVic, and then got dragged through hell behind RT, and it's _just barely_ holding on while still sewed into a dying company wasting it's dying breath with new projects instead of wrapping up what it already has to attempt a phoenix revival.

I know how far it's fallen, im not actually blind to its flaws, but I love the show. if it was to be rebooted, it'd have to be on the level of Arcane, if you've seen that (if not, recommend). it has to be insanely good because I feel like the whole vibe of the show would be different. it's hard to explain, and it could be entirely subjective, but I wouldn't be too into a reboot by a different company. its like Avatar: The Last Airbender. they can do this and that with it, adapt it and expand on it and all this stuff. but it will never be the same, the original is where its at. and though that's different because ATLA is consistently good throughout, a different art style and different versions of characters and the story is just off to me. it just sucks so much went wrong, I feel a little bad for RT in a way.

Sad part is at 2:36 Pyrrha might actually have pulled it off if she had been trying to kill Cinder. She should have tried squashing her under the gears instead of trying to cage her. Even if Cinder broke out she would have lost a lot or even all of her aura from the damage those gears smashing into her would have caused.
Ya know, I realized that Cinder only won because she figured out the pattern. The shield throw was always the distraction followed by the actual attack from Pyrrha. So eventually she decided, “fuck it, I’ll call your bluff” the last time Pyrrha threw her shield, and Pyrrha’s ankle was crippled because of it. Sad....if Pyrrha had tried some different tactics with her shield she might’ve survived long enough for Ruby to help her.

Pyrrha knew she was probably going to die in this fight. But ultimately, she did it anyway. She was buying someone time (she assumed Professor Goodwitch and co. but Ruby came quicker and did her silver eye trick). That's just straight up cold stone badass right there.

Yeah, the moment I saw the arrow hit her heel, I knew the fight was over 😥
But it's weird tho. Achilles is supposed to be the fastest hero in all of Greece on par with Atalanta as a sprinter but that sheer speed isn't demonstrated like with other characters.
Sometimes I rewatch this fight and hope for a different outcome even though I know it's set in stone and is a long past part of RWBY's history.

The tragedy of this scene is that she rejects the only choice that would have made her happy (staying with Jaune) in favour of buying into her own moniker and name, The Invincible Girl and her name which translates from Greek into English "Flame-haired champion of the people."
It was a pyrrhic victory alright... for Cinder.
She managed to become the Fall Maiden, kill Ozpin, bring about the Fall of Beacon and kill Pyrrha. However, at the end of the day, killing Pyrrha caused Ruby to awaken as a Silver-Eyed Warrior, which in turn petrified the Grimm Wyvern, and, thanks to the method Cinder initially received half of the Fall Maiden's powers by that bettle creature, made Cinder just as vulnerable to the Silver Eyes. Ultimately, she lost her voice (which eventually came back), lost her arm and got it replaced with a Grimm arm and lost her left eye, to say nothing of it making her incredibly mentally unstable.

@@boohoo723 Do remember that Pyrrha isn't at her best either. She had the mental strain of becoming a maiden and also had her mind messed with big time during the tournament. Phyrra knows she "can" win this fight, but she's not in the right state of mind to do so.
Ozpin had watched Pyrrha from afar for a while before deciding she was the right candidate for the Fall Maiden and knew her abilities and limitations, but even he told Pyrrha she would only be in the way of his battle with Cinder. I think even Ozpin knew he couldn't win solo and was only trying to buy time for back up. If Ozpin couldn't win, there is no chance Pyrrha would either. Cinder was playing throughout most of this match, she is sadistic in that way. She likes messing with people, giving them a bit of hope that maybe they can win, before snuffing it out.

A possible reference i find in that, althought im probably over thinking it, is that it reminds me of how glynda attacks the plane Cinder and Roman are. Notice how glynda throws one of the tendril/projectiles, Cinder breaks it with one of her attacks, but it reconects, the same way the arrow does

2:49 I remember when I first saw this.... I did not expect this. Also RWBY was that show I watched with my younger siblings a lot bc it was more child friendly than the other stuff I was into. Then this happened, and we were beyond shocked. The show has changed a lot since volumes 1-3, and as my siblings have grown up watching the show until volume 8 has been pretty fun since they understand things better now too.
Honestly tho. I still remember when my grown adult ass first saw this scene. It had been getting darker throughout the volume, sure, but at no point did I believe they would actually conclude Pyrrha's storyline this way. I was convinced, considering the type of series it had been up until the latter half of V3, that Ruby would make it just in time. In true anime heroine fashion. After the arrow hit Pyrrha I just stared in open-mouthed shock at my screen until the credits rolled. One of, if not the most memorable viewing experience I've had. Honestly V3 is top tier RWBY for me. The mood whiplash in the latter half of the volume was visceral. And I loved it

Looking back at it, it was Pyrrha’s good nature that got her killed. She believed Jaune was going to contact Glenda and the others to send help. And so you can see that she tried to trap Cinder. She had the advantage and she had Cinder pinned and helpless. Had she completely released the full power of her semblance, I believe she could have killed Cinder by crushing her, but her good nature and conscious prevented her from doing so.
I really don't think Pyrrha could have defeated Cinder at this point, Cinder left the entire fight without a scratch basically.
Cinder wasn't injured at all not was she going all out she was toying with Pyrrha she might have gotten a few lucky hits but Cinder still had full aura unlike Pyrrha

People are really out here in the comments being totally cool with the idea of an arrow being disintegrated mid-air, then reformed with the exact same forward force like half a second later- but also changing the arrow’s trajectory is where they draw the line of realism
Well, Pyrrha was based off of Achilles, so it makes sense for her Achilles’ tendon to be her weakest place, but we all know that Arrow was Aimee closer to Pyrrahs chest
Cinder did the same thing with her dust when she fought Amber. Amber elevated that with the leaves when she was fighting Emerald and Mercury and she activated her maiden powers. So I think it changed how cinder manipulated dust in conjunction to the new power.
Both of their respective arcs carry/carried this show. Pyrhhas ended in that beautiful statue scene and Cinders is still going.
I just love the version of Cinder's theme that plays here. It really helps to drive home that she has won.

Monty's original idea should have gone through. But now, Jean is even more flat. This is a slap in the face to Pyrrah and Ozpin being elite fighters that were killed by Cinder only to have her lose every fight afterwards. Perhaps that’s who you mean. Penny, who is capable of holding off ALL FOUR of the remaining Ace-Ops, who are fully trained huntsman specialists and designed to work together perfectly, Penny who also has Maiden Powers and is literally built to be the ultimate Huntress?
I think you need to get your eyes checked, because everyone except Raven (who still needed help in the end) were constantly on the defensive in their fights against Cinder. All of them have way more skill or at least are equal to Pyrrah in fighting prowess. The only reason Cinder lost her engagements with them was because she let her own personal flaws get in the way. With Raven, it was because Cinder let her rage cloud her judgment and failed to anticipate that Raven’s plans. With Penny and Winter, it was because instead of finishing Winter and Penny off, she turn to get Fria’s Maiden powers, and instead of killing Fria straight away, she started gloating about how much she deserved these powers and how she was going to take them (Just as she did with Pyrrah before she killed her), allowing Fria to regain her senses temporarily and use her own powers to smack Cinder away, which gave Penny and Winter the time to catch up and continue stalling until Ruby and Weiss showed up with the Silver Eyes. And finally with Penny’s rematch, Cinder underestimated Penny’s capabilities because she was a robot, Cinder outnumbered her with Emerald and because Cinder had more training with the Maiden Powers. She failed to anticipate Penny’s ability to see through Emerald’s illusion’s, which is how Penny got her lucky shot.
Cinder loses because she allows her Arrogance and Rage to govern her actions, not because she doesn’t have the skills to do it. The writing in this case is fine, characters have flaws and Cinder has made no effort to overcome them. The issue is that you’ve completely written off Raven, Winter and Penny’s combat capabilities and misread Cinder’s failures as a slight on her skills rather than her person.
When Cinder lost her other fights, it wasn’t because she simply got the shit beaten out of her. She lost to Raven when Raven froze her, and she lost to Penny and Winter it was because Ruby showed up and used her silver eyes. With both Pyrrha and Ozpin, they were more straightforward with her having the advantage due to her maiden powers. Also, as far as we know, Ozpin could have pulled an Obi-Wan and let himself die.

The gears did seem to catch cinder completely by surprise. That first gear slamming her down should have done more damage than it seemed to. I get that they wanted Cinder to be this invincible force of evil, but one gear broke Pyrrha's aura. Cinder should have been at least hurt.

Since he's her "inspiration" or whatever it's called. When Achilles cross dressed into a female, his name was Pyrrah. It's really cool how her character died the same way Achilles did. They were both skilled fighters who were nearly unstoppable, but their only limitation was their heel.

@@shwunari Pyrrha's voice actor confirmed that Monty had told her she was going to die at the end of Season 3. She was always supposed to die.
Honestly, an ace that good who is not the main character, not a rival, but is socially at the main character's level: set up the funeral pyre, she's going to die to drive the main character forward. Yes, it's a bit more of an ensemble cast but the tropes still stand.
Side note: Monty's involvement in the plot seems to be complex and saying it changed after his death is flawed. He's not a writer, never was a writer. He had some overarching concepts and he kept coming up with new and cool ideas but it was always Kerry and Miles who took these ideas and turned it into plot. Obviously, that's not to say he had no impact upon it, but beats like Pyrrha's death are less likely to be his ideas than theirs as they're the ones who know the tropes and normal concepts and how to use them to evoke emotional responses. Criticisms of the fight choreography or animation make sense (people talk about how Monty clipped frames and he had a unique dance-battling style that people with more knowledge than me can spot) but I would generally caution on assumptions that the plot changed because Monty was no longer running the show.

eric23443219091 Aura works as a force field. Also why they can take bullets, sword slashes and shield bashes. After aura is depleted any hit could be fatal.
Also, even in real life, you can in fact grab a sharp sword and hold it in place if you grip it properly.

nicely spotted. but I don't see how they could correlate. Pyrrha was shot with a glass arrow, there's no reason that would send her to wherever RWBYJ was sent. besides, she was clearly dead or dying before she vanished, can't bs your way out of that.

Upon watching this over again... Yeah holy shit, the old fight scenes were WAY more epic...
as much as I love RWBY to this day and will blindly continue to, the fight scenes 1-3 are the best. my favourite is ironwood and watts, but even then that's mostly them parkouring around shooting at each other to some badass music. awesome as fuck, but these fights are much better.
@@blue-vr8dd Yep. The new ones can come close to this (because holy crap the scene where they all gang up on Ironwood is so good), but that's an occasional flash in the pan compared to consistent quality.
Honestly, I just want Rooster Teeth to finish RWBY so some other company can take over with a reboot before RT finally croaks with all the dumb business decisions they've made. It's unironically my favorite series, but it'd be better off as something completely fresh these days.
The main core is just too banged up. It weathered losing Monty, the bullshit people tried to pull after he passed, it weathered KickVic, and then got dragged through hell behind RT, and it's _just barely_ holding on while still sewed into a dying company wasting it's dying breath with new projects instead of wrapping up what it already has to attempt a phoenix revival.
@@AiluridaeAureus I'm on the fence about it. I'm very deeply attached to the show, I guess I'd describe it as my comfort show. I know how far it's fallen, im not actually blind to its flaws, but I love the show. if it was to be rebooted, it'd have to be on the level of Arcane, if you've seen that (if not, recommend). it has to be insanely good because I feel like the whole vibe of the show would be different. it's hard to explain, and it could be entirely subjective, but I wouldn't be too into a reboot by a different company. its like Avatar: The Last Airbender. they can do this and that with it, adapt it and expand on it and all this stuff. but it will never be the same, the original is where its at. and though that's different because ATLA is consistently good throughout, a different art style and different versions of characters and the story is just off to me.
it just sucks so much went wrong, I feel a little bad for RT in a way.

Sad part is at 2:36 Pyrrha might actually have pulled it off if she had been trying to kill Cinder. She should have tried squashing her under the gears instead of trying to cage her. Even if Cinder broke out she would have lost a lot or even all of her aura from the damage those gears smashing into her would have caused.

Ya know, I realized that Cinder only won because she figured out the pattern. The shield throw was always the distraction followed by the actual attack from Pyrrha. So eventually she decided, “fuck it, I’ll call your bluff” the last time Pyrrha threw her shield, and Pyrrha’s ankle was crippled because of it. Sad....if Pyrrha had tried some different tactics with her shield she might’ve survived long enough for Ruby to help her.
