Great video Dave - I am looking to upgrade my SL2 after 2 years and you sold me on the A6400. Thank you! I am just wondering if there are any particular lenses you would recommend for the A6400 or is the kit lens good enough to shoot for TH-cam?
Hey Tom, sorry it took me so long to respond. Congrats on the a6400, I hope you like it. I think the kit lens is decent enough to shoot for TH-cam. I did upgrade to the Sigma 16mm and I really enjoyed that lens, but I would try the kit lens for a bit then you will figure out if you need to upgrade. the Sigma lens are somewhat expensive but way cheaper than the Sony Lens. Good luck.
Thank for the video! I'm in doubt between the SL3 or the Sony a6400. I would mainly use the camera for photography on vacation and portrets / instagram stuf at home. While I also like to use the camera for beginner filmmaking/vlogging. What camera do you think would suit me the best? It would be great if you could help me!
Hi Michelle, I guess it depends on whether you are comfortable with Canon or Sony. Both cameras will do a great job. Do you have lens for either camera? I really enjoy the small size of the Sony and now that I have been using it for a while I am really comfortable with it. For vlogging the SL3 flip out to the side is perfect and it's cheaper than the a6400. Honestly you really can't go wrong with either camera.
@@DavidDavies Thankyou so much for answering! I don’t have any lenses, and I don’t have any experience with both the brands. People always say that Canon is easier to use and the colors are better, do you agree with that? Or do you think that Sony is also good for a beginner.
I’m looking to use as a video camera. Looking to shoot family films like Christmas and such. A lot of low light , and was wondering what you think would suit me best? Thank you for your time
I'm selling my canon SL2 to buy the A6400 due to auto focus points, face and eye detection, 11fps as opposed to canon 5fps, the emount is standard across sony and I can keep my lens with use of an adapter
Great review, got a new subscriber :) Thanks for not being a fanboy. I shoot both A7RIII and EOS R and I love them both. Equally, but for different reasons. Cheers, keep up the good work and take it easy on the slider (sideways) made me slightly dizzy :) I can tell your main job is showing through lol!
Hey Dee, thanks for the comment. I was looking at getting the EOS R but at the time it didn't shoot full HD 120 fps, I believe it can now with the latest firmware? Anyways both those cameras look great, I've used the Sony A7RIII and it's a lot of fun, love the full frame. That's funny you mention the slider shots. I noticed it as well, especially when I was shooting two cameras instead of the usual one. Cheers!
Thanks for the video, I was torn between these two. I'm a canon guy, but plan on traveling to vlog in a foreign country in the woods. So yesterday there was an additional 20% off on amazon warehouse (returned products) on the sony a6400 with the kit lens for $712.94. I couldn't resist and bought it, the only downside is the expensive sony lenses, battery, and I'm going to miss the canon colors.
Hey Chris, thanks for the comment. I think you will love the a6400. I really did like the SL2. I had the Canon T2i before so the SL2 was way ahead of that camera. It was fun to use as well, and the canon lenses were great. However the a6400 has quickly become my favourite camera. I finally got around to doing a video just on the a6400, I wanted to wait to make sure I really like it and I do. As for lenses, I just got the Sigma 16mm it is great. Not too expensive. I picked up some batteries and a charger from Rav power, so far so good. But I still like the colours on the Canon. Good luck.
Between the two cameras , how do you feel about them now? I’m looking to use as a video camera, what has better colour and films well in low light? Thanks for your time .
These two cameras are actually very good for photography. My main camera now is the Sony a6400 and I have purchased lens for it so I really enjoy taking photos with the Sony, BUT before I bought the lens for the Sony, I had some lens for the Canon SL2 and it was great for photos. I think both cameras do a great job and it matters more on which lens you are using.
The SL3 looks like a good camera. It all depends on what you are shooting. I liked the a6400 because of the high quality 4k and the 1080p 120fps. I really did enjoy using the SL2. I'm still pretty happy with the a6400.
@@DavidDavies I'm looking to shoot music videos and vlogs the video quality of the sl3 doesnt seem as good as the 6400 so I'm thinking about returning it
@@RealSteveEyes ya the a6400 may be better for you then. I do love the rotating screen on the SL3. If you can get a good deal on the a6400 I'd go with it. Good Luck.
would you say the images are more detailed and sharper than the sl3's?? 🤔 This helps, thank you. I got an sl3 almlst 1 ½ years ago and honestly I should have just saved more money and gone for the a6400. It wasn't in my budget then and I had a canon EOS 1000D. The SL3 is so nice, especially the ergonomics, battery life and the touch and fully articulating screen... but when it comes down to image quality and low light performance.. lord..... I mean, in daylight and sunny weather the image quality is fine. Even though it is never as tack sharp on as I would like (I do portraits mostly btw). And when it's cloudy I already need to bump up my ISO to like 600. And then the photos aren't sharp especially. And I just started shooting indoor sports events... man... anything after ISO 800 is unusable in my opinion.... so sad. I prefer canons ergonomic over sony any time. And charging 800 bugs and more for camera without a full on touchscreen should be a crime these days. But I think I need sonys low light performance and focus tracking....
Ya you make some really good points. I like both Sony and Canon cameras they are great, but they also have their issues. The low light is tough with these less expensive cameras but you still have to pay a lot for them. Touchscreen is so frustrating.
@@DavidDavies just got a sony a7III 😅 my boyfriend Was angry and said I should just upgrade more instead of getting a a6x00 and then upgrading again since I outgrew the canon too fast... He was right I guess. I'll see what I'll make out of the a7III and if it's low light performance is really as good as I hope it is. I also got my Used metabones 4 adapter today. And even though the af is taking some time to search SOMETIMES in low light, when I mounten my ef lenses to my canon it did the same, so no reason to complain so far. And even though I just did like 5 test shots indoor in low light it's already way better than my canon 😅
The people at your work must be so lucky to have you..... keep up the great work, loving the intros!
It's the people at work who inspire me every day to pursue my TH-cam dream :) thanks for the note!
Old School TV fellow here - Great video, thank you! You should have a lot more subscribers!
Thanks, I appreciate that.
cheers from brazil! great work!

Technically Sony ahead of Cannon, however Cannon. Nicer colour, love your video quality...
Thanks for the comment. Ya Sony is ahead in some areas and Canon is ahead in others. Either way they both make great cameras.
I purchased the SL3 but thinking about returning it for the a6400 I mostly want to shoot videos
