i think i did that last week. just learning car stuff thanks to people like Chris Fix and Might Car Mods. i was replacing my rocker cover gasket and didn't think i had to disconnect my battery. undid most of the bolts then realized i had to undo a bolt off the alternator to get to the last bolt of the cover (didn't think battery for some reason). the wrench slipped and made the connection and got a whole lot of sparks....pretty sure i threw the wrench. anyway, then i disconnected the battery and bought a battery idolator.... Learnin'!

@@9009matorres lol that's luck, doesn't make it right.
I've converted 5 guys to using them. All it took was having them tighten a lug nut by feel then with the torque wrench. The feel of torque is not linear to humans. Anything above 50ft/lbs is something your body's not used to.
Also people don't consider that in the event of a crash if someone dies because you lost a wheel they'll prove your lugnuts weren't torqued and charge you with manslaughter.

They can take over 250lb of force on the handle and will flex a tiny bit, but pop right back, they don't deform, bend, or snap- that is the wrench doesnt: the rusted bolts often cant tolerate 500 ft lb of torque, and i've split a few sockets wirth them.

The breaker bar is ESSENTIAL when you have to change a flat tire wheel on the road. Unless you are the Hulk or Arnie it is difficult to use the cross wrench or that puny combination jack tool supplied by the manufacturer. I keep a breaker bar with me in my car and jeep all the time with the socket attached that fits the lug nuts of the wheels. It makes the process of changing the wheel so much simpler. One other problem where the bar is needed is when the wheels have been changed: the mechanic will attach the wheels with a air gun set to attach the wheels so tightly that a breaker bar is the only way to remove the lug nuts effectively. Great vid Chris. Thanks for putting it on TH-cam.

    2. Snap-on ratcheting screw driver. I have them in three sizes. Awesome tools.
    3. Craftsman 1/2" drive ratcheting breaker bar. Had it for over 20 years and it's never failed me.
    4. Pry bar. Couldn't live without it.
    5. Snap-On tools in general. Nothing else I've tried measures up, especially their sockets.
    6. My air compressor. It'd be difficult to live without.
    7. Ford Wench. Comes in handy.
    8. Slide hammer. When you need it, nothing else will suffice.
    9. Gear Puller. Also terribly handy.
    10. Ball Joint Press. Good for so much more than just ball joints.

+ChrisFix If you don't have a set already, you should absolutely get a set of knipex pliers. They're like Channel Locks that have taken a level in bada$$. Seriously, I have a set of 6 inch, a set of 8 or 10 inch (I'm not sure which anymore), and a set of positively enormous ones. The 6 inch ones I use all the time. They'll grad a flair nut tighter than any tubing wrench and they won't slip. Great for breaking loose really stubborn flair nuts that your tubing wrenches just try to spread out and round the corners off of. the larger ones are handy for compressing brake calipers before you remove them from the rotor for service. Plus, they just work better for anything you'd use a set of channel locks on and a lot more. the enormous set I don't use very often, but they are good for stuff like removing trailer hitches and stuff.
Haha, now that I've made the list, i keep thinking of things I should have put on it. Like 11. a good torque wrench and 12. a full (standard and metric) set of Gear Wrenches.

I like your viewers over some channels. They make the best comments! Favorite tools?
    1. Torque App with blue tooth scanner
    2. Impact driver
    3. Penetrating fluid - made this doesn't count, but I break so much less bolts!
    4. Many, many extensions and wobblers and universal joints. I think these all fit one category. Without a large collection many jobs are impossible. (I'm a fan if impact only for wobblers and universal joints, everything else just breaks. :( )
    5. 3" grinder. 4" may be more powerful, but only my 3" has fit for the two catalytic converter jobs I've done. It saves me trouble on many bolts, especially on exhaust. I bought it at Harbor freight for $20-$23 with $10 of wheels and it's great for fabrication too!
I want to put my MIG down, but I need practice before finishing some projects. I'm definitely not a natural at it.
    Secondary list for safety.
Safety glasses, need an example, ctrl f on the page to search for where it may have saved my eyes below.
Thick leather gloves. You need that when Grinding. Like your fingers right?
Welding mask. Turn it off the auto dim feature for when grinding.
....I have more gloves types than my wife has shoes....
    . . . . . . . . keep the gunk off yourself and keep those knuckles from bleeding. :)

OBD2 scanners are dirt cheap today. For $30-$40, you can get a VeePeak Bluetooth scanner and your choice of decent app for your phone. I keep my tiny scanner in the glove box, and use it for periodic checks or whenever any user intervention is required.
Another favourite tool: torque wrenches. I managed to get a couple of DeWalt wrenches at half price here in Canada, a 100 ft-lbs and a 250 ft-lbs model. They cover the complete range of both large and small jobs!

what tools should i have in a car in-case of an emergency

    • @jhonatanalvarez05
      @jhonatanalvarez05 6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

Esteban J you can buy emergency kits on Amazon. I don't have a link because i don't make my money like that. A auto mobile fire extinguisher is a must. A couple of towels, maybe a warm blanket; water bottles, flashlight, emergency triangle thingies. A fully charge smartphone at all times. Don't wait until the battery is low. Google search engine as your go too ask questions. Also a hand tool to break your windows and rip your sealt belt off in case needed too. I am sure there are more items, but just want to share some... Placement of such items is crucial so place each item in your vehicle as if you where in such a situation of where you will need that. Don't throw everything in the trunk inside a bag or container because they will be almost useless there.

Yep, just bought some breaker bars from Harbor Freight after ruining my 1/2 Duralast ratchet. Was replacing pads and ran Into some severely over torqued bolts. I finally got them loose with my ratchet (worst mistake ever), ratchet started grinding after that .So I went for the 2nd caliper and bam the gears slipped and my wrist flew Into the fender. Talk about pain lol. Btw nice videos. I watch them when I get bored or need help fixing my truck.
