  • I'm a big Octoprint fan, and that's in part due to the numerous plugins that can be added to add convenience and functionality. These are my favourites, hopefully there is something of interest for most people. Please comment below if I've missed any winners.
    The plugins featured in this video in alphabetical order (with further info where needed):
    1. Autoscroll
    2. Bed Visualiser:
    Standard gcode for settings:
    G28
    G29 T
    Prusa MK3 gcode for settings:
    G28 W ; home all without mesh bed level
    G80
    @BEDLEVELVISUALIZER
    G81
    3. BLtouch
    4. Cancel objects:
    Instruction page: github.com/paukstelis/OctoPri...
    5. Emergency stop button
    6. Extra distance buttons
    7. Fan speed control
    8. Floating Navbar
    9. Gcode editor
    10. Heater timeout
    11. Navbar temp
    12. Octolapse
    13. Tab Order
    14. Themify:
    To achieve the wider, more fitting /ui, add these lines to the advanced settings:
    Selector = '.span8'; CSS-Rule = 'width'; value = '70%'
    Selector = '.container'; CSS-Rule = 'width'; value = '100%'
    Selector = '.span4'; CSS-Rule = 'width'; value = '25%'
    Selector = '.row'; CSS-Rule = 'margin-left'; value = '0'
    15. Webcam
    Apologies for the sub par audio in the screen cast sections.

    Filament manager - It lets your Octoprint keep track on all your filament rolls, as well as color, brand, how much should be left and pauses your printer as it is getting close to one roll being empty. All you have to do is tell it what filament you will be using for your next print.

    Hey. I just wanted to thank you. I am new to 3d Printers. I bought an ender 3 and thanks to your videos, my first print was 99.9% perfect. I also used all your suggested printed upgrades AND most of you purchased upgrades (Aluminum extruder, bltouch, springs, glass bed, replacement Bowden tube, silent mainboard and octopi with 3.5" touch screen). I watched many many other videos during this experience, but yours proved to be the only reliable and easy to follow videos. I seriously would have smashed this things to bits without your help. Now I am in love (with my printer) and wanting to try more. (Maybe build a printer or cnc from scratch). Thank you for your help and inspiration. I feel like I should say more, but instead I'll just say Cheers Mate!

    I noticed that I had to uninstall/re-install Themeify in order to get Octoprint/Tab-Order to notice a revised tab ordering. I suspect that Tab-Order isn't the only plugin to be impacted by Themeify. Be nice to know the fix.
    This is a solid professional video, that clearly took a lot of effort to get to be so clean, and clear. The pace is (mercifully) fast, so it's great to be able to review the suggestions at speed, and revisit pause/re-run the video to get the details during install. Great job Michael! Sets a standard for us all.

    The cost estimation plug in is a great addition. You enter in a few parameters:
    Your power consumption in kW (mine is 0.2) for the printer
    Cost per kWh (mine is $0.13)
    Purchase price of the printer
    Estimated lifespan hours
    Maintenance costs per hour
    It ties in with Filament Manager plug in so it knows how much filament costs.
    After some time after loading a g-code file, it tells you how much it costs you to print the loaded model.

    I prefer "Exclude Region" for the functionality you're using "Cancel Object" for. It lets you draw a circle or rectangle on the GCode Viewer page, and stop performing any actions in that region. It doesn't require any object tagging in your slicer, which makes it more universal.

    • @kimpeterschick1025
      @kimpeterschick1025 5 ปีที่แล้ว +6

      Agreed. Exclude Region requires no additional effort in the slicer. So it's always ready for those printer "oops".
      Went from not needing it in weeks to twice over the same weekend. Probably my 2nd favorite plug-in next to Octolapse.

    • @ppaukstelis
      @ppaukstelis 5 ปีที่แล้ว +32

      I prefer CancelObject (but that's not surprising since I wrote it). They are really complementary plugins. Exclude regions simply won't work when you have objects that have overlapping bounding boxes. CancelObject does require some specific comment tags which not all slicers have. Fortunately, the more common slicers (Slic3r, Cura) now have that functionality and it will be included in future releases. The other thing that is nice about object tags is that it will allow plugins to do more than just cancel objects. You'll be able to very easily make on-the-fly changes to particular objects (think: temperature, flow rate, speed, etc.).

    • @kylerandall9141
      @kylerandall9141 5 ปีที่แล้ว +13

      Those are good points, Paul, and it's absolutely worth noting that there's no downside to having both plugins installed, so you have them both available to use whichever is a better fit for the situation (especially since you can't install a plugin during a print, so if you have an issue with a print, you want all the tools you can have in order to recover and complete it). Also, thanks for writing such a useful plugin!

    One more thing - A nicer plugin than "Themify" is called "consolidated tabs" Which does the same thing without the need to configure it. Plus add a few extra options just via checkbox. At present I'm just accessing Octoprint within my home via my web browser either on PC, iPad or iPhone. I know it's not safe to do so and understand that you should never leave a printer running autonomously. However, I've seen you-tube videos explaining PiVPN and or ISO Apps that would come in hand for if ever I need to pop out for a while during a print. Do you use such items and if so can you please explain how you access Octoprint when your not at home, maybe do a tutorial video.

    I think there's only a couple you missed as potentially really useful plug-ins (dependant on your wants/needs). The two that I found really useful in combination with one another was the 'Astro Print' plugin and 'Get Anywhere' plugin. By using both of these it enables you to print from anywhere (using Astro Print) and monitor it live from anywhere (using get anywhere) without the need for port forwarding which I found to be really useful on my printer which is now set up and super reliable.

    Michael have you ever thought about making a Klipper firmware video for lets say the Ender-3 or some other printer. You already got the pi and two Ender-3 so you can do a side by side marlin vs klipper test for sound, speed and quality.
    The Klipper firmware is supposed to be more quite and fast due to more precise stepper motor signals and the fact that the heavy lifting is done at he pi rather than the amega micro controller.

    You actually DON'T need a BLTouch or other bed probe to use the Bed Visualizer.
    You can use the PROBE_MANUALLY option with automatic bed leveling enabled in Marlin (I know it seems weird).
    You should do a quick video on how to do it. It's free and it fixed my print adhesion as I have the notorious warped Ender 3 bed. (I use a 7x7 grid)

      It's actually on my list for the near future. i figure most new users are going to struggle on the first layer so it is worth a video.

    Great video, thank you! Can you tell us how you get the full file names listed in the sd card list? I am only getting unidentifiable 8 characters and cannot find a solution online. Thanks!

    • @Geilisa91
      @Geilisa91 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      I know this comment is old. But for anyone still wondering. My guess is you have an SD card inserted into the printer while running octoprint. Dont do that. Try out Polar Cloud Plugin. You can add files to printer later without even having your raspberry pi or printer on.

    Cool plugins. One question for other user of cancel object. Is it normal that extruder always goes to that cancelled object on all layers? It works for me just fine, but I find it bit annoying that it always makes that extra move that takes just a little bit of time per layer.

    Could you make a video on how to connect Ender 3 to pc to use simplify 3D. My simplify 3D reads the com port when I plug in usb cable but doesn’t connect to printer. My other printer works fine but uses a different type of usb cable. Your other videos don’t give me information on what to do as far as connecting for the first time. I’m trying to calibrate my extruder but can’t get current e-steps or send commands due to no connection. Thanks

    Hallo there. I have a question about the Terminal informations when I type in M122 in terminal. Now i have a problem with one part of it. in the line where the OTP is written the status of it is TRUE (on the extruder) and the other stuff is on false. Has this something to do with overheating the extruder? Because above the OTP is a line that is described for the over temperature prewarn. Can ssombody explain me what this OTP stands for? Thank you in advance

    • @TeachingTech

      I was unimaginative in naming the processes 1, 2 and 3. Ideally you would call them something that made sense in S3D and then that will be picked up by Octoprint.

      @@TeachingTech If using Cura, if you add the following to the start of your ENDing G-Code: ;MESH:ENDGCODE The plugin will know to look for the file names and it will use them and you'll see them in the list of options to cancel. Working perfectly for me in Cura 4
