  • Two old school Dodge muscle cars drag race at the Irwindale 1/8th mile drag strip for a 70 Challenger vs 73 Dodge Charger showdown. On the prepped track we'll get more traction than street racing, so tire selection comes into play. I'm in my 5.7 Gen 3 Hemi V8 swapped 1970 Dodge Challenger and TH-cam car builder, welder, and master mechanic ‪@NightWrencher‬ is in his 1973 Dodge Charger with a 361 cubic inch big block V8. It's a battle of fuel injection vs carburetor, manual transmission vs automatic, drag radials vs street tires. The 5.7 Hemi vs big block Mopar V8, no nitrous nos, no twin turbo, just all motor classic V8 muscle car horsepower.

      Yea it’s good to see the older Charger but a 360 😂 You should’ve asked the other dude in the challenger to count to three very slowly and give you a little bit of a chance at least you wouldn’t have lost by much that way.
      I don’t mean to be rude but I own a 72 charger. Take the 360 & toss it in the scrap iron pile where it belongs.

It would explain why you are easily beating him. A 383 (the child of a bored out 361) would have given you much more trouble. Especially if you are running the 5.7 liter.

One VERY important thing to note - my Milodon pickup tube was machined incorrectly. The bolt hole was off slightly causing it not to seal correctly on the oil pump. It caused low oil pressure and I came very close to toasting my engine on the dyno! I went into detail about it in part 22 of the build series: th-cam.com/video/bNmvH0lGK94/w-d-xo.html .

    I will admit I glossed over this video to see your et and speed. Using one available calculator. The car would have gone mid 13's and a little over 100 mph. The donor engine was rated at 330hp I believe. That trap speed and et estimates 320ish hp.
    My point is your build was roughly 10k total cost. 15% drive line loss from the crank to the tires. That engine makes ballpark 380 hp.
    These results are making me seriously reconsidering a swap and mild build.

      I have a 73 charger and the front suspension sucks because of the k frame isolaters and it's a lot heavier but those issues can be fixed with firm feel aluminum isolaters and a set of traction bars for the rear along with a gear change (or just find a sure grip rear end) plus the 361is a good engine for pulling and heavy duty truck use but it's not a big performance platform to start with a 400would be a good start point for a low deck stroker engine or just get some good heads and deck it with a steel crank and after market pistons to bump up the compression decent cam, intake and stronger rods ( rpm are going to scream with the big bore and Short stroke of the 400) and then it should be a real contender plus a charger has that badass body style so it will look good doing it!

    • @noboltsleftbehind
      @noboltsleftbehind  2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      It makes for a more solid grip on the shifter when drag racing. I'm sure it depends on what angle the shift lever is bent at, in my case it's bent back pretty far so the sideways T-handle is in a pretty natural position 👍
