If those two cars were at a show, I'd have way more interest in the '70 Challenger. Just my opinion, but I give much more credit to the 1970 owner for essentially building that car. Granted, it's drivetrain is probably nearly as modern as the 2020 car. I just find it much less cool to buy a fast car "off the rack."
I like the pre2015 Challengers because they take more styling cues from the 1970 like the grill & tail lights & hood. Newer ones are more like the 1971 with two grill inserts and separated tail lights
This shows absolutley nothing if the 70's doesn't have the original motor specs. I watched this happy to see the 70 win....and the top read the engine was swapped out of the 70. What waste of time.

Imho, the new has a sock design, but the older one just has that awesome look that brands can't replicate today.
The '70 ran a 14 flat @ 104 back in the day stock .... and those numbers were corrected to sea level specs. In reality they'd squeeze a mid 14 @ 98 mph.
Would have liked to see a fairer comparison with a 6 speed 2020 R/T. Im surprised to hear this engine was pulled out of a SUV and not a original Big Block Hemi! Very nice runs brotha!

I have both. 1970 Challenger 340 automatic 6:43 and a 2009 Challenger R/T 6 speed manual. I have only ran the 09 at ZMax and my times were 13.4@106 mph. Not too sure what the 340 would run. The engine is warmed up pretty good with air gap intake and Carter 750 carb. .500 lift crane cam and headman headers. I guess the times would be similar.
Other than the engine sizes, the power-to-weight ratio is the biggest thing that separates today's muscle cars from those during the glory days and the late 80s into the 90s.
Heh, I heard that as , "No balls left behind" the first time he said it. Seems like you'd lose most of the surface-heat sticky-rubber from the burnouts when you roll them over all that cold pavement. When I raced a motorcycle, I'd spin the wheel right into the take-off spot to make sure it was maximum sticky. I needed a wheelie bar to keep from flipping over at launch.
Impressive for a Pre-Eagle Hemi with cam only. I have the same engine in my 05 Ram single cab. The eagle heads Hemi in the 09+ Ram trucks had about 45 more HP.

A big part of my decision to go with a Gen 3 Hemi for this build was weight over the front wheels. I do road race/time attack racing with it (here’s one of my races: th-cam.com/video/XcmjrrKhtI8/w-d-xo.htmlsi=iyQ3m3C46TfShlMM ) and the 5.7 Hemi weighs around 485 lbs, vs a big block 440’s weight at 670 lbs and the old school 426 Hemi’s whopping 840 lbs! Makes a huge difference in weight balance.

Are you talking about an SRT8 Challenger/Charger? Those 6.1 Hemi motors are great, they have a forged crank and very quick. Smoke the ‘70 Challenger however they will not.
For sure, my 4.10s are what got me out of the hole and able to get out ahead early. They weren’t measuring 60’ at this event, it’s a sort of pop-up drag strip on the straightaway on one of Willow Spring’s road course tracks. But on a regular prepped drag strip I do around 1.9 seconds 60’.
I prefer the older quarter mile care my Grandpa Jim had a 1964 440 Dodge 426 Himi Cornett. It would the Quarter mile 11.66 and the difference between his and these two cars is that his was stock.
I used to do 11.30 at the 1000ft track in a 1974 Nova 350 on high lift and duration cammed engine with 12" slicks 530 gears in 9' ford rear end, linelock, electric motor driven water pump, Victor junior intake and 750 holley and foot brake launch in my transpack reworked turbo 350 tranny with 3500 stall.

Another huge difference between my ‘70 and the 2020 (that I wish I would have explained better in the video) is the transmission, suspension and technology in the new Challenger. He’s got computer controlled traction control, independent suspension, and modern 8-speed auto. For me it’s just gears and horsepower. At the end of the day all engines do is provide twisting force. I’d love to put an old built up 440 or 426 in my ‘70, if you all get together and start a gofundme for an expensive build like that let’s do it! Otherwise my garage-built broke ass is stuck with the 5.7 I pulled out of a 2005 Durango. Lol.

@@bigbear5981 didn’t add the extra leaf, instead I went with the Hotchkis rear leafs and torsion bars with Bilstein shocks. It’s set up much more for road corse than it is drag racing. I did add CalTracs traction bars though to fight axle wrap and they help a lot.

Love surprising other rides at the light.😄

Those engines were not in the 1970 so this means NOTHING. Who gives a shit about liter....what cubic inch is an engine.
