I'm sorry mate but we both know GM only shut down Holden was because the Aussie's were engineering upgrades on the Commodore models of cars faster & better than GM itself. So, they got sore butt syndrome & put the boot in & shut Holden down. But in saying that the Aussie's government itself wears blame here as well for not fighting for the brand like they should have at the time. This dirty little attack on Holden is why I will never purchase any GM or Ford product in my lifetime. Like with ford I have issue because of the new mustang as it's not safe enough to be a bloody road car as the first time it gets into a side impart accident everyone in the back seat will be hurt in some way something I have witnessed in nine accidents now. American standards are to poor till compared to Aussie or even NZ standards. Yeah they're great cars, especially for the money. I've always been an import guy (currently drive a '22 Supra, used to drive a '93 Rx-7, and '12 Genesis 3.8 Coupe). I *ALMOST* got an SS instead of my Supra but in the end, my import heart got the best of me lol. I still really like the Camaros though.
as cramped as the interior is the Camaros platform is beyond rigid and able to handle comparable if not more power then the corvette. the big wigs dont like it when the vette gets eclipsed. look at what happened to Pontiac and Buick when they did. one is dead and the other is for people who are almost dead.
Growing up, my best friend's older brother had a 2002 Camaro SS 35th anniversary edition. I think it's what got me into the car scene. Now, over 20-ish year later, I own a white 6-speed 2019 ZL1 1LE. I get to show it off to my buddy's brother next month, finally completing the circle. Awesome video, makes me love my car even more.

The Man, The Myth, The Legend! I love this “Explained” series. I’m fascinated with cars and bikes. Your detailed breakdown and visual descriptions are top notch. You spread knowledge and love of motor vehicles. I can’t thank you enough.
One of my favorite auto memories was when a friend got a new Z/28 in 2015. We were doing our monthly car meet in the canyons and through out the day he had given other people rides. We were all laughing when he pulled back up to drop the person off because every person that came out of the car had a shit eating grin across their face. The fastest I've been in a car was that day. We were coming around a long sweeper and we were booking it. When we got to the parking spot I asked him about how fast we were going and he said "oh, idk. We basically topped out 3rd gear, so maybe 130?" I chuckled and got out of the car. My friend started laughing and asked "Why the grin?" 337 didn't even mention the dinner plate sized brakes in the front. The first time we had ever seen carbon-ceramic rotors. The car braked so hard, I could feel how thick the carpet was under my feet from the G's pushing me forward. Also "flow-tie" is such a banger name for the cut-out badge in the grill.
As past 4thgen FBody, 5thGen Camaro and current 6thGen Camaro owner, I always felt the platform was under appreciated by GM due to living in the shadow of the Corvette. The Alpha chassis is such an improvement that there’s no question why the Camaro GT4 was such a good platform in IMSA until it lost it’s homologation.
I used to think it was American cars for the sound and European cars for the looks but damn some of these newer Corvettes and Camaros look incredible mixing aero and the classic style of their vehicles. Even the black SS Monte Carlo looks good because of how menacing and evil it is.
With the 5th gen, the 6th gen just took it to another level. I remember when they brought it back with the 5th gen. The movie made it even better but man the 5th gen was amazing. Then came the 1le and ZL1. They just had that muscle car look and feel that everyone loved. Timeless design with a deep throaty engine sound.
I'm a motorcycle guy, all types, superbikes to dirt, to vintage...but I am blown away by the ZL1/1LE track beast. That Nürburgring Record video is awesome, when I'm depressed I watch it, and all is right with the world again.
I own a (now built and modified) 2017 Red Hot ZL1, and it has been the most amazing vehicle that I've ever had the privilege of being able to own. Comfort, class, aero, and tire melting power all on tap just sitting in my garage whenever I want. GM truly did knock it out of the park with these 6th gens and their Alpha chassis. Fantastic video!
@@peterb4143I did a job for a guy who owned an all blacked out 5th gen z28. He said it had head and cam work done to it headers and exhust also. I believe he said it was over 600whp. Gt350 is the goat of Ford that most people don't even know about. They should have dropped the LT5 in the 6th gen Camaro. People were lining up to pay $100k+ for Demons and GT500s. They could have sold a $100k LT5 Camaro.
true but Hennessey already did that with the 1000HP, Dodge Demon killer Hennessey Exorcist Camaro ZL1....the Exorcist is basically a Camaro on steroids
GM did it again in 1989, when Pontiac released the underrated Turbo Trans Am with the Buick GN/GNX engine. It surpassed the Corvette in performance that year until the 1990 Corvette ZR-1 was produced.
First class as always, man, especially the closing the monologue. Loved that you referred to it as, "...in a deep sleep." The Camaro will appear again, I'm sure, but in a very different guise. There is a rumour that GM will replace the Chevrolet brand with Cadillac in NASCAR, simply because they don't have anything else suitable with a Chevy badge that they can promote once the Camaro is gone. I'm a big NASCAR fan, my favourite driver uses a Camaro, and seeing one of those make a name for itself on the international stage at Le Mans was such a proud moment.

My mother and her first husband was into prostock racing, they raced up and down the east coast back in 1968-1971. Their racing name was Stringfellow bros racing out of Amissville, VA they raced with alot of legends. Their main cars was the Little Red Lizard and the Blue Blazer, both Camaro SS bought off the Dudley Martin chevy dealership in Manassas, VA. Engine work done by Lee Edwards, an engine builder out of Calverton,VA. He used a L-88 as their core engine but with alot of smaller upgrades and mods that was revolutionary for its time. Listening to my mother talk about the racing years was fun to listen to. Love you Ma rest in peace

19:07 is most of the reason why I got a 1ss 6th gen 1LE. Similar DNA to compete in its own bracket but not costing me 80k at a bare minimum to even have a chance at financing it.
337 together with hagerty made spot in my heart I didn’t even know I had cuz ohhh boyyyy the quality of these videos are insane and I would even say I would pay for this rather then paying for TV… please keep it up.
Most people have no idea just how close Camaros came to exotic supercar performance at a fraction of the cost. GM produces the BEST sports cars on the planet dollar for dollar.
I plan to keep my 2018- ZL1-1LE forever. Chevy did a phenomenal job with this car and I'm really bummed out Chevy discontinued the Camaro again. It never reached full potential because they never wanted it to take away form the corvette. An LT5 in a ZL1 would have been insane. I really think the Alpha Chassis had the potential to run a sub 7 minute Nurgburgring time if Chevy would have allowed the engineers to cook.
Corvette is a sports car, not muscle car, never had been. It has 2 seats and has no models or packages that are meant to appeal to a mass market like the chevelle, mustang, torino, duster, charger. All of these seat 4+ and share platforms with family cars or are themselves undeniably family cars like the chevelle. Corvettes were built as sports cars to be sports cars and to be driven fast and are nothing like muscle cars built to go fast, but as stock often lack the handling to be driven fast. (They might win in a straight line or oval, but would be suicidal to run that 3,800lb A-body down a mountain road at 100mph
Which is more dangerous on your hypothetical mountain road scenario with an inexperienced driver: a flat-handling '68 A-body GTO, or the same vintage Porsche 911 with its infamous, potentially deadly, end-swapping, trailing throttle oversteer?
The Chevrolet Corvette is a sports car, not a muscle car. Muscle cars have powerful V8 engines, rear-wheel drive, and a boxy body with two doors. Classic muscle cars must be made in America from the 1960s to 1970s, have an affordable price tag for the era, and have wide tires, flared fenders, and sizable hood scoops.@@ChrisBred4s
I really wish Chevy put more effort into saving the camaro. With the lazy design language in the last couple of years, It seemed like they wanted it to fail to justify the cancelation. No lt2 final call engine, its sad to see it go.

Man, I just love your content, this was one of the best videos that I’ve seen so far. I hope you’re making a killing on TH-cam.
Same! My 2020 will always be in my fleet!!
LT5 is a crate engine. If you ever decide to modify. Maybe drop it in?
I’m not even tryna glaze but 337 you are the goat at these car enthusiasts vids !
Find an old guy and have him teach you how to pronounce Chaparall. Then, buy him a beer and have him explain the Can-Am era to you.
THIS lol
And.........he said Ford Tunnel Ram.....I think he meant tunnel port.
Very well done documentary. Keep making videos like this, that are well researched and I am many others will continue to watch your channel
GMs Corvette meat riding has killed so much creativity
the grand national, the trans am, olds 442, the camaro twice now, its a long list of performance cars killed off.
Man the quality of these videos and the animations man! I’m hooked on this TH-cam channel!!!
ZL1 1LE is such an amazing Camaro…..it’s a shame GM didn’t give the Camaro a proper send off with a Z/28 LT6 engine
A COPO NA motor, 632ci fuel injection. Or the tiny LS7 😂
@@cdjr66 huh?
The quality of these videos is amazing. He deserves a tv show
Corvette is a sports car, not muscle car, never had been.
The corvette IS A MUSCLE CAR idk what your talking about lol
The Chevrolet Corvette is a sports car, not a muscle car. Muscle cars have powerful V8 engines, rear-wheel drive, and a boxy body with two doors. Classic muscle cars must be made in America from the 1960s to 1970s, have an affordable price tag for the era, and have wide tires, flared fenders, and sizable hood scoops.@@ChrisBred4s
This dude always comes with the best facts and footage to back up the commentary. Grade A top notch.
I really wish Chevy put more effort into saving the camaro. With the lazy design language in the last couple of years, It seemed like they wanted it to fail to justify the cancelation. No lt2 final call engine, its sad to see it go.
True, it hasn’t changed in like 14 years now
What an excellent video! Fascinating history of a car that I’ve always had an affection for. Thank you for your work!
They do sell a four door ZL-1's => CTS5V Blackwing. Same chassis/motor.
My new favourite quote “it was just a Camaro and a fucking fast”😂
Great video like always. Could you make a video on the wrx and the evo next?
4G63 video is in the works
i’m a gt350 owner but got choked up at “camaro is currently in a deep sleep” 😢
We need a last gen GTO/Monaro video
You are THE BEST car channel on TH-cam‼️‼️‼️‼️
These animations are getting ridonculus.
Chaparall is pronounced shap-a-RAL
As in the old snowmobile company 😮
First timer here. This video was amazing. See why all the subscribers love this channel. The Vette and maro are my dream cars.
From the looks of the comments, I suspect that most of your viewers don't even know the first model year of the original GTO. 😂
Subbed man. You make great car related history documentaries. I love watching these and learning along the way
Ok ok 🍾👏🏻
I really like this channel. My dad got me an SCCA membership when I was 10 yrs. old. Can-am was and still is the shit. Glad to hear other Americans bringing it around again and sparking interest.
Been here a while, Then saw you on SAP and enjoyed hearing you talk about car stuff. I watch any doc style videos you do!
Absolutely love your content bro! Some of the best car YT videos out on the internet! 😎👍🏾👌🏾
One thing - can't help myself; but your pronunciation of Chaparral is incorrect.
My dad is old AF and has talked about those cars for years so I just grew up knowing the name and had to do a double-take when I heard you say it haha.
"Shap-er-el" is how it's said. Just a friendly correction man, zero hate.
You're a legend, just wanna pass along some info.
Keep it up bro! We all appreciate this more than you have any idea.
Can't wait to see you hit 1 million one day soon! 🙌🏾
The best breakdown of my car I've ever seen or could've imagined. Great job!!!
Thank you for uttering Holden's sacred name in respect, rest in peace Australian automotive industry.
That on purpose Holden shot was a good one!😂
But since you brought the Aussie's up, you might wanna make a Holden history vid to help people understand the Company that built Australia. Some might find it interesting in your take on it.
oh how I was waiting for the next 337 Speed vid to drop... 6 months felt like 6 years! But boy, was it worth the wait!
500k sub you guys are awesome just found the channel and am absolutely stoked to be the 500 thousandth subscriber!
Best auto shop teacher of the millennium! Love these vids
Great video. It really makes me appreciate my garage queen, a 2022 ZL1. Hoping to keep her for a long time!
FINALLY!!! Been dying for more of your stuff man! Could watch it all day!
I like this video. Also, in reference to the stats of the Katech engine for the GMMG Camaro, the stroke of a 7L V8 with a 4.125in bore is roughly 4.00in.
Yells “ ayo guys 337 gotta new upload “ “”Throws phone aggressively leaps over couch and screams like a supercharger “ 😂😂
Great video! Glad I watched before I commented. Took issue with the “corvette killer” ( which the zl1 is not) but this was a well researched and unusually accurate for TH-cam. Got a new subscriber
Can we get a video on transmissions? How they changed certain platforms and or made them better? IE PDK,SMG,DSG,DCT
Mustang owner here, always had a soft spot for Camaros
love that you included the metric units aswell :)
greetings from germany
Dude great video, I'd like to see more on the Can-Am cups. My grandpa raced in it and I want to learn more about the race, but I love the way you explain stuff.
Best video by far, wait was well worth it 👌
