Oh wow. This is a wonderful tracker knife. I'd carry it in a heartbeat. It has the elegant looks because no sawteeth on the back. Also it looks like it is able to throw mean blobs of sparks from a ferro rod, when I am looking at the sharp square back. The sharpening with the rolled up sandpaper might work, I'd prefer ceramic rods. Stay safe everybody, and stay blessed. Greetings from Germany!
I will probably go the ceramic rod route. There’s a TH-cam review by: Caveman sur_bush ,… I think. He chops a copper pipe with this beast! His has a white handle. - This Tracker knife version does look quite elegant.
Great blade. I have the green non polished micarta scales. I got the extra sheath treatment offered by DLT. For the extra $15 I figured what the heck. lol.
Yes. I agree. I’ve used Cold water in the past, I’ve even used Oil before and it worked fine. I like using hot water, it seems like the leather gets softer, even faster. In my experience. Cold water Is just fine. Because it’s cold, the leather remains a touch harder to stretch, but is still very possible.
@@JoeDoomsday Interesting. I was checking it out recently, and I had kind of a mind to try and use hot water, but I seem to remember some source advising against it, something to do with what it did to the structure of the material. I would expect it to get softer too, but does it then set softer as well?
@@whynottalklikeapirat ,… because the leather stretches a bit easier it can stretch farther which can make it thinner. I’ve never had any issues but I stick it under hot tap water for just a few seconds then stretch it into place. I then sit it in front of a fan and let it dry overnight then oil the leather the next day. Seems fine. I could see how hot water could be more destructive,… maybe it removes more of the leather oils or something. I might reconsider using hot water in the future and just stick to cold water. I don’t want to risk it. 👍🏻
It was too expensive for me too. PayPal had a buy now and pay in 4 installments. A payment was due every 2 weeks. Until I payed it off. It hurt but I’m glad I did it. 😂
It is an excellent knife it seems. The Svord Von Tempsky Bowie & this Bark River Trakker knife are the prize of my collection. - Bark River never fails to Amaze me. Made in USA.
This Trakker is heavy! It doesn’t take long to tire out my arm and hand when chopping with it. The TOPS T3 tracker is much lighter. More like a throwing knife. The Bark River on the other hand is a tank. The Bark River would be a SHTF survival knife that can do everything and last and last. The T3 is more of a user friendly, field knife. Easy to carry and use.
@@JoeDoomsday thank you. Weirdly enough I'm between the two. Leaning towards the tops as I already have a beastly tracker style knife (frank Bowie by knives by hand).
Uh-oh. Do I sense somebody has gotten the Bark River bug? LOL. I pity your wallet. Maybe my wallet and yours could hook up and go to a 3 step program together. I now own 14 of the damn things. LOL If you don't let it get to dull, a ceramic rod will take care of that curve,. If you let it go to dull though, you might need the sand paper or a diamond rod. A2 is some tuff stuff. It doesn't get enough credit..everyone wants the 3V nowadays, but A2 is no slouch..
I hear that! I bought a Bark River Bravo Squad Leader in 3V and the knife is sooooooooo freaking great,… I fell in love with Bark River. What can I say? I just got a loan on a new pickup truck so I will be paying for that for the next several years,… so, I’m going to have to pull back on the spending. I want at least 10 more Bark River Knives. I’m gonna have to start doing only budget knives again.
I do like this tracker. Thats a hunk of A2 steel for sure! Nice design!

@@JoeDoomsday Well - I can’t remember the source so maybe there is nothing to it, but your points make sense :)

What type of steel? Are the heat treated properly? How much $ do they run ?

"It is very straight" - not sure if that is counted as a feature. 🤓 Nice designed knife, to bad the steel choice is a very rusty one.
Definitely would have preferred cpm3V steel.
What do you think of this vs the tracker 3?
