Like I said it shouldn't as there two different roles and jobs. But I couldn't help think that. He's turned it around and has absolutely killed it. From his drafting to how guys have developed is top notch. Happy for Joe and the avs. Dude was amazing as a player and well as pure class. Showed up in big games too during their cups runs. Now he's showing his brilliant mind for hockey as well. I think stevie y is also the same thing. Classy amazing player. Everything he seems to do just works.

Yes, they drafted MacKinnon, Rantanen and Makar, but those were all Top 10 picks. There is not a single player who was drafted by Colorado with a pick lower than 12 overall who has made a real impact on the team.
It is a bit too early to completely shit on his drafting, because there still are some promising prospects in the system, but it's also way too early to call it top notch

Caps fans are (typically) so supportive and thankful for GMBM. He was instrumental in rebuilding our defense and winning our first Stanley Cup. Every year he makes a reasonable move. Sometimes they pan out. Sometimes they don't. But through it all he's done a good job of balancing future vs. present considerations while always keeping the core of the locker room happy.
It's not an easy thing to keep a roster that's been competitive/good for 10-12+ years together and cap complaint. And he's not afraid to pull the trigger on the big moves, unlike our former GM McPhee.

    • @catrissia
      @catrissia 3 ปีที่แล้ว +3

Well said, I think he has made quality deals since he took over aside from signing Panik for so many years. Time will tell if the Mantha trade was worth it, but I don't think it's as bad as everyone is making it out to be. Scouting will be spotty because of covid so chances are those picks are not going to matter much at all.

As a Columbus Blue Jacket guy, the problem is that Columbus is not a preferred place for free agents, either their own players who become free agents or, other teams' free agents looking for a place to play. That has to do with Columbus not being New York or Florida or Vegas. And it has to do with the team having a long-time poor reputation that does not compare to Boston or Chicago or Pittsburgh. I sometimes wonder if the team will leave Columbus. And I sometimes wonder if I might just be okay with that.

    • @MisterVercetti

I agree with all of this. I think this rebuild (and Jarmo can call it a "reload" or whatever the hell he wants, but let's call a spade a spade, people) is going to be the Blue Jackets' last chance. If they can't wring any kind of success out of it, I think Columbus's days of having an NHL team are over.

I think CBJ fans have a lot of faith in Jarmo. The all-in decision a few years ago did have mixed results but it brought us the most success our franchise has ever had. This past offseason and this season can't be held against him because he did a ton of work to clear cap to lock in PLD who unexpectedly 180''d and wanted off the team out of nowhere. Getting two firsts this year for Savard and Foligno is good GM work. He is the best talent evaluator CBJ has ever had. We will bring in a new coach and system in the offseason I think we'll bounce back to being a bubble playoff team pretty quickly. Comparing him to previous CBJ GM pedigree like Doug Maclean, he is incredible.

but the jackets will need to get a #1 center at some point. there’s some good prospects in the system (especially marchenko), but no top-end center. they also have another goalie in the pipelines, so they can deal off korpisalo and/or elvis.

I'm a Habs fan who remembers the dynasty that was the late 70's and the comparative genius that Serge Savard was who oversaw the cup in '86, finals run in '89 and cup in '93. And I can tell you that Bergevin can sign all the free agents he wants but this team will NEVER become a perennial contender again until the root of the problem is addressed. And that is the scouting, drafting and developing which they used to do better than anyone in the league and now are close to the bottom. Look back at the years leading up to '86, 89 and 93, Bergevin and Timmins haven't drafted 1/4 of the number of great players that were taken in those years in the entire time they've been on the job. Free agents and trades can't build a championship team period.

I really like what Kyle Dubas has done this year. He made a lot of great adjustments in the off-season, and he again made a lot of great additions at the trade deadline. I'm really happy as a leaf's fan. The only decisions I'm rather not happy with are the contract size for Nylander... I don't think he's worth it honestly, and if it were up to me, I would have cut him loose rather than give in at the last minute. If he were a two-way player like Matthews, I'd be okay with it, but wow is he lazy and inconsistent at times. He has made Tavares a lot worse this year too - this is undeniable. But other than Nylander, I really like the team Kyle Dubas has put together. Giving Alex Galchenyuk a chance has really paid off and it's galaxy brain deals like that that have really made the cap space to performance ratio really work despite the higher salary sizes of the forward group.

He is overflowing with speed and talent, just hasn't shown that HUNGER and DESIRE to do what it takes to be anything more than a streaky goal scorer. I still believe he's is an integral component to this team and can be effective when he realizes that he is just another cog in the wheels of this machine. We don't expect him to go bang bodies, we just need Hyman like tenacity, and his skill will flourish from there. We brought in the pieces that bring experience, heart, hunger, sand and gamesmanship to help with the studs. C'mon Willy, you are surrounded with guys that will have your back, have theirs, find your BIG GAME attitude for the playoff push. Block a shot or 2, kick a little sand at the opponent!!! i do agree with the description you made of how habs fans work. But as a fan who wants Bergevin gone, the reason why is that we don't commit. Every year since 2010 we're a wild card/8th seed caliber team and our success has relied exclusively on Price. obviously Bergevin wasn't there since 2010 but ever since he's been here he doesn't commit on an ideology. He doesn't want to trade his young assets but mismanages them, let them leave on waivers instead of trading them. He wants be a cup contender but never goes for the homerun and decides to only go for base hits like Chiarot and Edmundson. yes we're pretty consistent on making it to the playoffs, but what's the point if you can't go past the 2nd round? So all I want is for him to commit. Either he goes all in and try to get a cup for Price and if it fails, at least we tried. Or we full on rebuild, go tank mode and try to do a Blackhawks or a Pittsburgh. And if we end up being the new Edmonton, it will suck but so be it, at least we tried.

As a Tampa fan, we had some dark days where ownership was too involved or used the team to launder money (allegedly) for a Japanese yakuza crime family. Anyway, the ownership needs to be mentioned when reviewing Buffalo in my opinion. Is having Kim Pegula as team president a good thing? The problem with bergevin is he makes trades that are so bare minimum and the they tend to look good to start then they just fall into place and its like - ok great MB wtf we still have a middle of the pack team

TBH you don't build a team with trades the only real way to get game-changing talent is with the draft the Leaf isn't going to trade Marner or Matthews in their prime, for example, the problem is the org refuses to make a full rebuild and just keep on hoping that Price repeats a Roy playoff run which is not going to happen.

@@bloodtearse they literally traded for john freakin tavares. and Price DOES consistently repeat playoff runs just ask the Penguins and either way, MTL could easily acquire someone with any credibility, they just dont do it and go for 5'11 depth players. Idk how they stumbled upon their giant Dmen but at least thats a start.

If Lou Lamoriello told me to shave I’d tell him to get bent. If he has a problem with it he can take it up with the union.

In a Finnish interview - perhaps last year or - Jarmo hinted that people above him kind of instructed them to go all-in and keep Bobrovsky and Panarin, obviously everyone fully aware that CBJ won't be able to keep them (or get anything in return). So that cannot be held against him.
I think next off-season will be huge for their team and with certain changes, they can take a big step in the right direction. They now have three 1st round draft picks for the next draft and some cap space and can use those to make off-season acquisitions, if they are to get that 1C, for example, through a trade instead of free agency. The coaching position(s) will also have to be addressed.
When it comes to having a proper evaluation on CBJ GM, the off-season will be decisive.

Hawks fan here, I have both been on the #FireStan train as well as the #PraiseStan team. He’s really a roller coaster ride.
    Cons:
While he’s made very questionable moves that’s leave a terrible taste in our mouths (Panarin trade, Denault trade, Quenville firing, Seabrook Contract for years, bringing back former Hawks past their prime.) to name a few.
    Pros:
Bowman and Co have been incredibly spot on when it comes to drafting and their European scouting is second to none. People also forget that Bowman made great adds through the dynasty run (Vermette, Hossa,)
Bowmans a mixed bag but so far I’ve been impressed with what he’s signed and drafted the last few years with the young core the Hawks have.

I just wanna say that I think Kekäläinen has done a tremendous job in Columbus. Going all in hurt them a lot going forward, but I think that spark that they got from their playoff run (basically winning Tampa) somewhat reinvigorated the team. Not to mention the fact that he was able to get TWO FIRST ROUNDERS and other picks for David Savard and Nick Foligno, when Buffalo gets a second from Hall. Sure the Domi trade has not panned out, but Anderson probably wanted a similar contract with Columbus to stay so in the long run it was the right move to move him imo (that contract is way too risky)

Julien BriseBois is the best GM in the league. He understands that Tampa has a window to win multiple championships and he makes the moves necessary to get them over the top. Even if he overpays, winning the cup is more than worth it. Yes he inherited a great team from Yzerman, but BriseBois has been with the Lightning since 2010 helping Yzerman build that team. So he’s always had a big role in their success. Even after the 2019 first round he didn’t have any knee-jerk reactions and the patience paid off. No bias here either- I’m not a TB fan.

Bob MacLellan is a great gm for the caps, he’s kept us very good for a very long time, plus got the cup win. Some caps fans want him fired for that Mantha trade and while I hate that trade too, he’s definitely earned my respect enough to let him off the hook for a bad trade or two

Jarmo's problem is that, while he certainly has an eye for good individual players, he has no idea how to put together a cohesive unit. That's how you get Laine with no one there who can give him the feeds he needs to be successful. That and his inability to convince free agents to stick around is why I think he might be getting the boot right alongside Torts at the end of the season.
