This is some well done work, keep it up! I'm just realizing I happened upon and watched your Matt Barnaby video a while back, then I watched your Marty St. Louis vid who has a special place in my heart going back to his UVM days, and now I'm subbed. You and Hockey Psychology are my favorite channels for interesting and unbiased hockey content, which comes in handy during these August and September dog days of being an NHL fan. I guess I'll go on to watch the JR video, the NHL '94 G.O.A.T himself.

Unfortunately, even though Oates helped the Capitals make it to the finals as a player and was a hall of fame player, the thing that I most associate with him in my head was his arrogance in forcing Ovechkin to play Right Wing because of Oates' belief that right handed shots should play on the right side. It did not work well at all for the Capitals or for Ovechkin.
It's unfortunate that this is what first comes to mind, when he had a hall of fame playing career. But that's what it is for me. It's not Oates' unselfishness as a player. It's about his selfishness as a coach.

Adam Oates is with-out doubts the unsong great of playmakers in NHL history.
The play-IQ was incredible how he could set up passes and goals at difficult positions and angles.
Despite his lack of speed, Oates was still producing fine numbers and constantlt showed improvements. He was a great point producer in his college hockey years...and how NON, I mean NON NHL team drafted Oates was insane considering 210 possible Draft picks was at the time avaible. Unbelieble.
If the NHL had had sence they woyld have had an "Most Assist Trophy Award", in witch Oates, who for 12 NHL seasons was a Top 10 assist maker would have won
3x the award; 1992-93, 2000-01 and 2001-02! Sadly like so many NHL greats, Oates never won a Stanley Cup but at least played in 2 Cup finals (1998 & 2003).
However, something that is debatble is the fact that regardless of his tallent and work-force, his repeated contract disputes to demand a new contract with his teams; Blues, Bruins & Capitals = his prime NHL years was somewhat ruined due to having made himself an "uproar maker" or "strongly open opinion maker" that never sit well with the GM's or owners could have cost him a lot of possible more greatness achivements.
Also, despite being a A--Star level player, Adam Oates NEVER participated in any international competitions for Team Canada? Why was that so?
The 1996 World Cup? The 1998 & 2002 Olympic Games? possible IIHF World Championship tournaments (1993, 1996 or 1997)?
That 1997 year was also a year Canada won the WC gold medal so that would been a nice career oppertunity. Was he just not interested in it or was it Team Canada was never interested in him (?) this demand an answer I can't find support for from any side.

You should DEFINITELY do one on Pat Lafontaine. Imo one of theeee most underrated of all time
Pat Lafontaine. Very happy that I was able to watch him in his glory years on tv and I wasn't even an Islanders or Sabres fan. But come playoff time I made sure to tune into his games just to watch his amazing skill.
When the guy was fully healthy he was a beast playmaker and goal scorer. If not for some rough injury plagued seasons on and off in his younger years and later in his career from 93 to 98, and he could have easily been a 1500 point career guy.
He still made it to over 1000 points in only 865 which is fricken amazing. Imagine Pat fully healthy throughout his career and possibly playing more seasons!! He was a victim of the heavy hitter checkers of the 80s sadly too and wasn't a big guy at all at only 5'10 and 180 pounds.
Also look at those years he played for the lowly basement dwelling Sabres who were quite a crummy team most of those seasons and the latter seasons of the Islanders(post dynasty years) yet he still put up massive points with them

Couldn't win in the playoffs. Oates didn't have much success. No cups. Plus he wasn't very fast. If he had worked on his skating more he would've been an absolute legend but I think he'll settle for just a Hall of Famer.

@@tommygoode9644 Also a victim of teams on the bubble. He joined the Wings in their "Dead Things" era. Then went to a Blues team that was entertaining as hell in those days but only considered a serious cup contender to local St. Louis sports talk radio for a few minutes in spring before they went back to talking about the Rams and Cardinals. Bruins were an almost contender but was never getting past the Penguins in those days, then they collapsed. Things may have gone differently for Boston if not for that Samuelsson hit on Neely, at least that's what I like to tell myself.
As far as his speed goes, he's not the only great player where skating wasn't his strength. I've loved to watching guys that lacked Oats' vision, but made a career on wing parked in front of the goalie and consistently driving home rebounds. I always appreciated that about Dave Andreychuk. It's possible that if Oats had never honed his selfless playmaker style and instead tried to develop himself into Pavel Bure he probably would have only been a mediocre, almost NHL-level player. I trust that he found his strength early in his career and ran with it. But you never know, Oats had a brush with Yzerman when he was a young offense-first goal scorer. But Yzerman became truly great when he learned to be a two-way player. So, players can transform, I guess it's not impossible.

Juste vous rappeler que peter statsny était dans les années ‘80 le meilleur pointeur derrière Gretzky

You need good players around you to get noticed so it is never just about that ONE guy.
I have been watching hockey since the early 60's there has been many great players every single year I never center out just one.Funny though Joe Nieuwendyk was also a great Lacrosse player definitely a sport that toughens you up.

Underappreciated by who? I think most people who watched hockey when he played knew how good he was. I remember seeing features on HNIC of Hull and Oates a lot during Hull's massive goal season.

@MSZFilms I'll see you an Adam Oates, and raise you a...Ron Francis. Second in all-time regular season assists - ONLY behind Gretzky. Two-time Stanley Cup winner. Without him, the Penguins would NOT have won their first two!!! Also,... keeping in mind,... Francis only has three 100 point seasons while Oates had four.

@@That90sShow As much as I liked John Cullen, he would NOT have delivered the to the Penguins their first two Cups to P-burgh. Francis stepped in (and up) when Mario got injured.
