Love to see your hair thriving now! In my case, after 2 yrs of following BGC I actually had NOT retained any length and my hair was drier than ever! Now that I have finally seen the light and have re-incorporated oils and butters into my regimen, my hair is finally thriving AND retaining length!
Honestly with the condition my hair was on I’m floored it retained any length at all. It makes me excited to think about the true possibilities for our hair ! I’m so happy to hear that your hair is back thriving since reincorporating all the things our hair needs ❤🎉
I think it honestly depends. I rollerset my hair and sometimes i need oil on my ends, sometimes i need dry shampoo. What’s critical for me is pre pooing with an oil on my lengths and scalp on wash day…coating my scalp and length with oil each evening is absolutely not necessary, even in protective styles. If my scalp is dry it needs washing, not oil.
Curly hair sure does hide a multiude of sins geez. And I experienced those thin ends, I can't believe I was walking around here looking crazy. My hair is so full now from root to tip. Trust your gut and take your power back. We've allowed everyone else to dictate what we should do with our hair when we know our crown better than anyone else. Thanks for putting in that work to continue to keep us informed fren! Love you Shelly!
@@tammymoore8804 Yes, your hair is a walking testimony about the very things I discussed in this video! 💯 Since switching to blown out cuts your hair is thicker, fuller and the longest I’ve ever seen it! 😍 People can keep drinking the koolaid if they want but the truth is in the receipts‼️
Was Waiting on your "public statement" sis especially bcoz you had maybe fine or thin hair like me and i follow you on instagram, so i kinda learn from your page and was wondering how the no oils/butters worked for our hair type Been off IG for a while and This is confirmation that i wasn't wrong That routine cannot sustain our fine strands and im glad you took your power back and nursed ya hair back to its proper state !
I was in her live and said she ruined my hair... She said, me, I cut your hair? I never cut your hair. Straight up lied. I was her model!!!! Stay away from this method y'all She is lying to y'all.
Girl, when someone lies about something they know is the truth, it's a sign to run! 🏃🏽♀️💨 I can’t say I’m surprised though because I believe she severely lacks integrity‼️💯
I am glad you put this out here. Curly hair can hide a lot of issues. People can be too willing to jump on the latest bandwagon I've done it myself and I had to say to myself this is nonsense, why is it taking me all day to do my hair when its not even that long. Then I just done some research started to deep condition after every wash, blow dry my hair (using heat protectant), oil my hair braid it until the next wash day and my started growing and is currently rhe longest its ever been. A key thing thing you mentioned our hair grows all the time we just have retain it by keeping the ends healthy so a trim ever few months is fantastic. There is not one product on earth that grows our hair topically. Product can help retain length. Our diet needs to be rich in protein, iron and vitamin c, d to help to produce strong hair. Also important is to be very gentle with our hair. It is just that simple.
@@LivingInTheShade I know that’s right! Do what’s best for you and your hair! I love this for you Sis❣️❣️❣️ You just made me even more excited about what I’m going to do with my hair once it gets longer 😍
great insights because length doesn't automatically equal health. when it comes to major cuticle damage that length will come with density loss - no exceptions - on top of all the other webbing, discoloration, fraying of the strand and ends. your consistent voice on this is helping many who may never comment avoid this travesty. happy your hair is on a healthier journey.
Hey Shelly! Thank you for sharing 🥰💙..luv that you are not afraid to share your truth and knowledge of what you’ve learned and how you are helping others in the process 💙
That’s a perspective I never considered. Our hair will always be growing and even retaining length while giving no clear indication that it’s damaged. That’s something we should all pay attention to even if we’re not following the BGC method. Thank you Shelly for using your voice. And it’s your channel. Talk about whatever is on your heart to share. Even if it’s repeats. Someone is going to search “does BGC method retain length?” One day on TH-cam and will be glad they found you.
You're welcome Sis! I'm so glad my truth is resonating with you as well. 🥰 Hopefully anyone contemplating implementing this method will find my videos and truly be able to make a more informed decision than I was. 🙏🏽
I can’t agree more I stopped using heavy butters/creams for a few years ….because it was impacting my oily skin. So my face cleared up and my hair was as chronically dry and so was my daughters! So I gave myself a solid trim and went back to my original hair routine….guess what-- castor oil works for me, moisturizing my ends and keeping it in twists…and boom it’s coming back to life. The best part is detangling is great. The only thing I will keep doing is washing my hair thoroughly to remove all the products before adding back butter and cream.
@@StyleAndGrace7 Bingo! The key part is if you choose to use them in your hair all you need to do is properly wash it before using them again. It’s just that simple! However, we were lead to believe that if we did use those items it would somehow stain our hair 👀🤦🏽♀️🤣 Also, I don’t think there’s a one size fits all solution. I think what might work for one might not for another. So product selection is super important for that very reason❣️
@ also the climate/weather played a role for me. I’m in a humid city so it wasn’t till the temperature and humidity decreased that I could really tell what was going on and what I needed……I had waist length hair some years ago when castor oil was my friend…..so we back tight now lol
@ Yup I realize climate plays all sorts of important roles in our hair care. I’m like you and have gone back to what I know yields healthy long hair! 🙏🏽💕🥳
From listening to everyone, the telltale sign that something is off is the detangling experience especially after getting a cut. If detangling is truly a chore, then it may be time for a closer examination.
Yes, I agree. The quality and the integrity of the hair has diminished with the No Oils/Butters regimen. Yes, the hair will grow, but it lacks luster and goes through textural damage. Similar to someone who neglected their hair under a weave for a very long time. They will see some growth but the hair will be very dry and brittle. Of course, the no oils/butter isn't going to make the hair look as extreme like a person who neglects their hair under a weave but overtime the lack of oils and butters will weather away at someone's hair. The hair becomes weathered due to long of exposure of the elements. Oils and butters protects the hair from that.
Well stated! I never thought my hair could get as damaged as it did from a chemical free method that was supposed to yield the healthiest hair possible! I feel scammed! 😝
I'm glad you came out with this video Shelly. Just because someone does a particular hair routine and their hair is long doesn't mean that their hair is healthy. A person can find themselves following a haircare trend that can cause server damage to their hair and end up starting all over again. I had to learn this unfortunate lesson myself more than twice which lead to me not reaching my hair goals.
I tried their hair detox for 2 months and I started noticing right away that my hair got drier and drier as the weeks went by and I had to go back to oils and butters but I did realize that I was over using them and overall my products in general which was why my hair was dry in the first place. At least I did learn how to properly apply products and my oils and butters. Even wyte hair channels are now teaching using oils on their ends because we do need them🙃
It sounds like you learned a valuable lesson too! I love your takeaway which is it doesn’t take much of those products to get the job done and they are can be truly beneficial for our hair. 💯🥰
First, I want to apologize to you. I followed the method for two years UNTIL my stylist started pivoting from the BGC method when she realized one size does not fit all! She is not even on their directory anymore. Once my stylist started asking them questions due to her clients ( including myself) hair starting to become severely dehydrated due no oil or moisturizers, she got blocked from both of their IG pages 😂smh. I know the reason I did not experience too much damage is because I never stopped using leave ins and I am back to using jojoba oil for my WNG. My stylist does blow out cuts only for most of her clients(me included)and only curly cuts on certain clients. She also does not recommend AG at all unless your hair needs heavier coated products to style. You are right! Just because your hair is growing does not mean it is healthy. I can’t believe I was once in this cult 😂😂. Thank God I didn’t have to start completely over, but my stylist did have to cut two inches to fix my ends. Thank you Shelly. Everybody can not be lying about how damaging this method is.
@@deescorpio8454 Thank you so very much for coming back and sharing your truth about your experience and that of your stylist. It’s really unfortunate how they have chosen to handle this situation. It’s not fair to the stylist who have concerns or the consumers who have voiced them. Also, I wish I could say that I’m shocked that your stylist got blocked by them for asking questions but unfortunately I’m not. The other unfortunate part is there are new people who are discovering that they too have damaged hair because I’m still getting new DM’s from them. There are also new members implementing the method because it’s still being heavily promoted. I just pray those people stumbled across one of the videos out there sharing the possibility of their hair getting damaged! Lastly, I want to apologize to you as well. I’m sorry if I rubbed you wrong at any point while sharing my story. I just feel super passionate about it because we trusted them and believed in everything they said. Not to mention got those super expensive products and services. All to be blocked, dismissed, ignored and treated poorly. I’ll honestly never understand any of it. Anyhow, thank you from the bottom of my heart and I truly appreciate you taking the time to share your experience. ♥️
Also, when I was in SSC they did the same to me. Whenever you have problems, they tell you you haven't done something correctly and to keep trying. They also told me my hair was Frizzy, dry, and changing because I was experiencing hard water... Yet I have a showerhead filter. As always, thanks for sharing your journey and warning others. Because of you, Narada and Rosie, I didn't have as much damage as I could have.
Yeah SSC was a whole other thing! 🫣 I remember asking about the hooded dryer and if it could burn the top of the hair since it’s so close to the top. I said part of me thinks I should incorporate a heat protectant and they were like y’all are always trying to do way too much! They said it’s indirect heat and to stop trying to over complicate things. They also said for us to stop trying to do their job because they are the professionals and not us. They were super cocky and always found a way to blame the person asking the question on something they did wrong. Oh and they were also quick to say we didn’t allow the stylist to cut enough hair off. It was a hot mess express up in there! 🙅🏽♀️
And Aleise blames stylists for not knowing basic, fundamental hair cutting instead of her method 🙄 Not to mention Elaine stepping away from hooded dryer use. Smh
Unfortunately showerhead filters do no treat hard water...I wish they did because I'm in a very hard water area. Shower filters take care of sediment and chlorine, you need a water softener to fix hard water.
I've retained length on some not so healthy hair, specifically when it was bleached. I think it's worth it to start over and focus on hair healthy because the length will come with it. I fell bad for the peopl e that have damaged their hair and feel starting over is too much.
Such a great point about being able to have retain length on unhealthy bleached hair because you wouldn’t think that’d be possible. 😅 I also feel horrible for people who need to big chop but they’d rather deal with damaged hair than to cut it. I tried everything to save my hair because I didn’t want to have to start over either. Ultimately the damage won out! 😓
I am not undecided… natural hair is dryer in nature. Deep moisturizing masks, leave ins, Butters and oil are a must for hair health. I don’t care how long the teacher’s hair is.
Shelly you have been so helpful, I started to follow that method all of about 2 weeks but I missed my butters and deep conditioning and so I stopped. Around that same time I discovered you channel and was just so grateful to listen to you and your experience with your hair. Thank you so much for your time and research, I definitely appreciate,. You are so right.
@@lizzieclay6774 Sis you’re so lucky you stopped when you did! Excellent job on listening to your hair. I wish I had acted on that notion way sooner but when you know better you do better. 😅 Thank you for sharing and I wish you continued success with your hair journey ! 😍
I’ll be honest I get curly cuts and use Innersense. I’ve been getting curly cuts for over a decade way before this was really a trend. I’ll also add that I’ve always had natural hair and wore my hair straight for a couple of years in college. I have fine hair and my curls are looser and big. In addition I have CCCA (scaring alopecia)which I have been actively treating for almost 15 years with a dermatologist. My hair is very healthy, easy to detangle, shiny and easy to manage. I choose to keep it short as it helps me feel confident with CCCA. With that being said once you and others started coming forward with the issues you were having I figured that it might not be the best method for tighter curls. To be clear, I don’t follow BGC. I just get the curly haircuts and use Innersense products… that’s it.
It's amazing to hear about your journey with your hair and how you've found what works best for you! 💕I really think some with bigger and looser curls can use certain products and cutting techniques that maybe don’t work as well for tighter curls. However, it’s hard to really know unless you were to silk press your hair to find out. 😅
@ thanks for engaging with me! Because I have CCCA and my scalp is sensitive and gets inflamed. Im not getting a silk press. I use to get them in the past but the risk of a CCCA flare up is not worth it to me. I literally get shots in my scalp once a month and I’m on oral medication to keep it at bay. My hair practices haven’t changed much since I was a kid. My mother never used heavy butter or oils in my hair. She used pink lotion and Hawaiian silky, Paul Mitchell and later on when Anthony Dickey came out with his book and hair line we used that and wore wash and goes. Back then I even used kinky curly, mop top and deva curl..all the older lines that came out around that time. I don’t think straightening will highlight any damage, my curls are so loose and silky that by day 3 my hair looks like a blow out and I can easily comb through it with my fingers and can see my ends. Happy to send you a picture directly, I just don’t want it blasted all over social media!
Thank you so much for sharing your experiences. I haven't had my hair blown out for several years but I think it is time You have educated me so much. Thank you so much ❤❤❤❤❤
I followed the method too and noticed my hair was drier. I stopped using their methods a year and half ago and added deep conditioner and leave in back into and included getting trims with my hair straightened my hair has gotten much better. I did not add oils or butters into my regimen because they aren’t necessary for my hair.
@@titanium114 Yup exactly! I think for some including myself just adding back in moisturizing products is enough. However, I do enjoy adding in a little light oil or hair serum when I feel my hair needs it. For those that choose to use oils and butters in their hair, they just need to make sure that properly cleanse it routinely. That way there’s not a build up. It’s way more simple than we’ve be lead to believe 😅
It makes sense, because I thought length equaled health years ago. I finally had to realize that trimming off the dead ends was the way to get to health. Plus just caring for it has helped tremendously.
So very true! I use to think the same thing until this situation happened to me. Now I realize that just because your hair is growing and you are retaining length, it doesn’t mean it’s healthy.
The curl chase is real! It sounds like a trend that seeks to manipulate second element which gives our ethnicity away. However our hair coils is fine. There's no need for us to stress our crowns to achieve a certain aesthetic. This video was very informative. Coconut oil is my go-to, it's great since I live in a subtropical region. Water is great but so is oil. Sometimes I need more water than oil, other days I need more oil than water. It depends on what my hair needs 🖤
@@slieafrica It’s funny because I realize that whole method is based off of curl chasing. Seeking a desired look & style instead of healthy hair being the most important aspect!
The method no oils/butter method popped up out of nowhere to me, and the way it swept so many women up felt like whiplash. In my (old school) mind I thought “now why wouldn’t WE (black folks) use oils and butters?” Because grease always has-and still is-a staple in my home. It was affirming to see your videos and you come out and talk about the damage the method (as well as curly cuts) did in the long run. I will say that when I have not had a true trim in a while I will “dust” the ends of my twists, and I mean the smallest, most minimal amount, but I know that doesn’t count as an actual trim. I wish those women could really be held accountable for the damage they caused so many women and the amount of big chops women have had to get because of their misinformation. I hope more people find your videos and implement leave ins, oils, and butters again. It truly matters and is so important for our hair.
What’s interesting is when I found the method I had no idea it was a newer trend! 🫣 The way they came off was that it was a method proven in science and they were super cocky and confident about all of it! So I really thought it was a tried and true method. I’ve realized for my hair that it’s extremely important to use mostly moisturizing products that don’t strip the life out of my hair. Unlike the products they were recommending. My hair also benefits from leave-ins and either an oil or a hair serum. Anything less and my hair looks and feels like an old dusty broom 🧹 🤣 This was a very hard lesson to learn but it’s made be dig deep and truly understand hair and many things pertaining to it. 🙌🏽 Thank you for sharing your thoughts. I always love hearing what others have to say as well as their lived experiences. ❤
@ they did sound so confident in their method! They had me second guessing myself like “am I doing something wrong?” And my hair is the same ! I need a little something something because my hair will be D R Y. I was clutching pearls at them suggesting not using a leave in or just using straight gel or mousse on the hair. I love mousse and gel but I always put something underneath. My hair will snap, crackle, and pop right on off if I don’t And I think it’s always a learning curve with curly hair. No matter how many years we are natural we are always learning something new, a new way to style, a new way to use a product. Our hair grows and matures like we do. I just hope more people get to see your videos, and other videos of women who have come out about curly cuts as well. I just don’t like how some people (even our own) will profit off of misguiding women and causing us to have setbacks on our hair journeys Thank you for sharing your experience ! I know it’s helping women come to the light one by one 💕
Oh wow I wish I had thought to include everything you stated in this video too! There’s just so much that feels fundamentally wrong about that method. Like baking the hair underneath a hooded dryer with gel for copious amounts of time each week. 💀 I hope people find all the videos made on this these two methods so they can make an informed decision. I wish I had been able to do that because the only information I found was all positive stuff. Had I only known 🫣🤣 Thank you again Sis. I really appreciate you! 💕
@ yes to the dryer lol. My hair takes forever to dry but that made me wary. I’ll let it air dry 30-45 minutes then go in with my blowdryer/diffuser. I almost broke down and bought a full salon dryer seeing all these other women wash and then sit under one 😂I had to go searching and I came upon your videos and was so glad that I did ! You truly save me (and my hair) 💕
It’s sad to see BCG stand 10toes down for the method when people are coming with receipts to show the damage. How are straight naturals able to maintaining healthier ends? The base of the routine (weekly washing and not over complicating things with a million different products) is effective, but adapting the method to meet people’s concerns never needed to be such a fight.
Yeah I agree, this never needed to be a fight. If anything, we should have been able to come together and problem solve and then make adjustments. Even many straight haired naturals implement DC, hair serums and light oils. They also thoroughly cleanse their hair but don’t strip the life out of it like this method originally called for. Also, it’s funny to watch BGC make subtle changes, but not fully acknowledge why those changes are being made. There is such a huge lack of integrity with them as so called “professionals”that it makes it hard to ever wanna trust another professional ever again!
I can honestly say that I understand exactly where you are coming from with this entire video & it makes 1+1=2 sense! It’s like the information you’re sharing is what I was saying to myself before I big chopped. I also want to add that imo some gels can hide sins too… Smh at how much I cooked my hair under the dryer with products and heavy water🤦🏽♀️😩 I could write a book in this comment, but instead I’ll just say thank you, thank you for your detailed & honest videos. You are very wise & don’t think for once that your truths are in vain. Not sure if you view Loudney’s content on Ig, but she is also VERY helpful with the health of our natural hair. She walk it like she talk it‼️
I’m so glad you get what I was hoping to convey! It’s our lived experience and so no one understands it more than us. 😢 Girl I literally just wrote this same sentiment about the gels & hooded dryer underneath another comment 💀 When I think about some of the stuff we did to our hair I just get nauseated😝
A lady told me butters oil and cream is cool but internally we need to take care of our self and have natural oils in our hair, then some people say oil over grease, heat vs curly vs protective style, I'm just all confused on what to do
All "protective" styles eventually lead to alopecia, sooner or later.😏 Yes, oils over grease, ALWAYS. Just make sure the oils and/or butters you use are non-comedogenetic, which means that the oil won't clog your pores. You can google a list of non-comodogenic oils and choose what kind is best for your hair. Low-porosity hair should only use a lightweight oil and high-porosity hair can tolerate an oil that is a little heavier. Again, do a google search. Most importantly, the oil goes on your hair, not your scalp. The human scalp makes it's own oil. It's called sebum and it comes out of our body in the perfect amount. You should not disrupt the natural balance of your scalp by adding other things to it. Last tip, it is best to dry your hair WITH HEAT.😁 You can sit under a hooded dryer for 20 to 30 min, then dry the roots with a diffuser attachment on a blow dryer if you wear your hair curly and you want to save time. HEAT LOCKS IN ✨️MOISTURE✨️ which is the main thing that curly hair needs. The two forms of heat that I mentioned are actually indirect heat, which is considered wayyyy healthier (even by professionals) than direct heat. Direct heat is the blowdryer with no attachment to dissipate the heat, a flat iron, or a curling iron. Your hair will actually be healthier and softer with heat, particularly indirect heat. Good luck on your healthy hair journey. ✨️💛✨️
Everything starts from the inside out and you just need to do what makes your hair feel and look good. I also realize we can use anything as long as we routinely wash our hair. ♥️
Fine TYPE 4 extremely kinky natural gal here, let me save ya the trouble if you have hair like me: the no oil and butter method aint fa us I feel like those with the "few" success stories are those who have coarser strands that probably could withstand all that wear and tear the method gives them Fine hair girlies we actually need the re-inforcement of oils and butters and if you nasty Ayurvedic strengthening products Lets sit this one out !
Haha 😂 shoot please do because you know we’s NOSEY and want to see all the things. 😆 On a serious note I’d be happy to look at your hair and give you my unprofessional opinion. Just shoot me a DM on IG. 🥰❤😘
I made a huge mistake too followinf these people yesterday i cut off half of my hair 🙁🙁🙁🙁 i only did it for a month and now im back to leave ins and sealents. Id never stop moisturing my skin so i dunno why i thought this was smart 😭
Damaged ends have to come off, either way. My hair is growing out, (hair grows all the time) yet because I don't want to go shorter, damaged hair is still on the ends of the new growth. I'm clipping off slowly. Arduous process, all the way around, especially when dealing with varying textures.
@@anonymousgirl799 FACTS and there’s nothing wrong with taking it off slowly either! The only time I’d argue against it, is if the damage is out pacing the new growth. Meaning it’s traveling up the hair strand at a faster rate than it’s being cut off. That was the case for my hair. 😝 Typically it can be done slowly and I know that can be more tolerable for some. 💕
@shelly.v.247 I HAD some hair, Girl, and already feel bald headed with this short length above my neck!!! Lol I keep my hair up 90% of the time, keep my hands out of it , while wearing a head scarf, at home. I wash hair every two weeks, condition, moisturize, and leave it alone. I'm taking hair growth supplements DHT blocker, and eat healthy. I rarely have my hair down, being retired and mostly homebound. Your hair has grown out beautifully!! Thanks for your channel!!!
@@anonymousgirl799 Sis you’re preaching to the choir! I felt the same way about mine. I don’t mind having short unless it’s not my doing. Which in this case it wasn’t. I’m enjoying keeping mine pulled back and not worrying about it. It’s helping me not be so hyper focused on it and just let it be. Sounds like you’re pretty much doing the same exact thing. Here’s to better hair days Sis! 🙏🏽💕🥳
I have been following this method for one year for me and my daughter. 😩😔 Both of our hair looks so bad, especially when I flat iron it. I am just wondering how to fix it. I can’t cut my daughter’s hair😢. I also noticed my hair is getting lighter in color, how to fix that ???
I feel you! I'm here for you Sis and I'm thinking about making a video about that! 💕 If you go look at my videos you will see what I did to repair my hair. I won’t lie, lots of cutting involved but you don’t necessarily have to. Just add back in products that are formulated with lots of oils & butters. Deep condition, use a leave in and add back in a little oil and or serum. Hope that helps ❤️🩹
1:04 Not me thinking you were about to tell the bee 🐝 story 😂😂 3:46 You're so right! This entire thing has taught me to be able to see what truly healthy hair looks like-you can't unsee it once you know! The only person I know on these internet streets who believes in the method and her hair looks nice is MissSerwaa and that's because she moved away from following it strictly once the 30 days was up. 7:06 I agree! We're still doing length over health without realising it. 8:46 😮😮😮 13:12 Also, the negative view around straightening our hair plays into this I think. I think there's this mindset that stretching the hair to truly see damage means that you've failed somehow, since if you truly understood curly hair you'd be able to see any issues in the natural curly state, and it's like admitting defeat somehow and that the straight hair people have won if we straighten the hair and discover that it looks shredded. When in reality, curly hair is more than just the perceived shape. It's the ability of the hair to be moulded ANY way we like and that does mean using heat and stretching it as needed. 14:23 Ironic to be told you're curl chasing inside of a platform called "see some curls" 🤨 I think at the end of the day, with natural hair's propensity to be naturally non-greasy, until your hair is literally dripping with oil/grease, you can layer it on and your hair will thrive (with proper cleansing as well ofc). Our hair isn't meant to be coated in gels. Nobody's hair is, really. Love the new healthy growth you've been getting!!!! ❤❤❤
The bee 🐝 story 👀🤦🏽♀️🤣. You’d have to have been on that live to know 🤣🤣🤣 I feel like I’m going to miss hitting so many of the awesome points you made but I’ll do my best not to. Misserwaa has beautiful hair but I don’t count her because I don’t feel like she actually did the method. I feel this way because she used Adowa Beauty hair products. They are heavy in oils etc and in my opinion using those definitely do not comply with the rules of no butters or oils in the 1st 5 ingredients of any product. Most of us who sustained damaged used the main products talked about by BGC & CIK. Yeah heat definitely gets a bad wrap yet it’s been one of the most important parts of my new hair journey. I also hate all the rules around heat in the natural hair community. Yes, SEE SOME CURLS is hilarious especially since I think their whole methodology is about seeing curls 🤣 Lastly, I agree that we can use anything in our hair as long as we properly wash it. Oil doesn’t stain your hair to where you can’t get it out as we were led to believe by them. 🫣🤣 It’s wild so many of us fell for the tomfoolery 😝
I know you're serious. I agree with what you're saying just like people when some people weare braids back to back after taking the braids thair hair grow but its dry and brittle and looking like please help me so i get it 👍but the comedian insert is so funny 😁 ❤😅
Haha I’ve had to find a way to laugh through it all! So I’m glad you enjoy my humor lol 🤣 Also, your analogy about braids, growth and health afterwards is a perfect one! 💯
I think what you’re discussing is the topic of hair weathering. Hair weathering can take from 6 months to 20 years to show up on the hair. So some people may see the effects of the hair weathering earlier on versus others who can see the effects later. Like myself I didn’t see the hair weathering until after 3 years. I have fine hair, tightly coiled and I’m cutting the damage off over a span of some months and using bond builders to strengthen what remains. Cyn Doll has been talking about this for some time and after she shared and I looked it up it clicked.
@@PreppyFay12 Actually I’m not talking about hair weathering at all. I’m talking about a well know haircare regimen called the No Oils & Butters Method aka 30 Day Hair Detox and how it destroyed my hair. Granted it was destroyed even though I was still able to retain length with the method. Two totally different topics. 😅
@ I understand what you are saying. I also followed BCG for 3 years. I’m suggesting that the damage was due to hair weathering from wearing wash n gos consistently. If we google can wash n gos cause hair weathering there’s substantial evidence.
I’m open to learning but it’s hard to from Cyn Doll because she talks about curing alopecia then eats Canes chicken, has a flare up and boom she’s back to square one! Plus listening to her try and explain hair science is embarrassing to partake in.🤷🏽♀️ 😓
Haha I use to hear that a lot when I was younger. 🥰 I think I followed it for about 1.5 years. The funny thing is they call it the 30 Day Hair Detox Challenge but it was promoted more as a lifestyle. Also, the stylist who promoted it were instructed to have each new client come in after they had done the detox for 30 days otherwise you could not sit in their chair if you had not done it. Afterwards the majority of us were then told to continue on with the 30 day hair detox aka no oils & butters regimen at home. It was rare to hear of a person who was doing the method deviate from it unless they had allergies to the products. 💕
I love Shelley’s content but looking forward to videos that doesn’t involve BGC. I personally appreciate not staining pillows etc from oils. My scalp actually now itches like crazy when I use oil. I’ve tried several and have given up using them because I have to wash it out in 2-3 days because it itches so much. I have reincorporated using deep conditioners and leave ins 😊
@@ShelMarieE I receive what you’re saying and I don’t blame you for saying it or feeling that way at all! I also appreciate your honesty in voicing your opinion on it. 💕💯 Please know that I actually held back on releasing this video because I told myself let’s move on Sis. But of course all of a sudden there was an influx of content from BGC & BGC supporters show casing length from the method. Naturally it makes it’s hard to not speak up because I know how someone new to the method might view it. So I just really want people to see all the different aspects of this method so they can make a fully informed decision because BGC continues to push this method heavily! Honestly speaking, if I speak on this anymore on my channel it’ll be one last video that succinctly puts everything together. I’m undecided on whether or not I will because I’m not sure if it’s even needed at this point. 🤷🏽♀️ Also, I agree with you. I don’t think people have to use oil in their hair to have healthy hair. However, I do think the appropriate product selection is imperative. Products that don’t strip the hair like crazy over and over. Implementing products that leave the hair feeling soft and replenished. While using stylers that don’t leave the hair hard as a helmet either. Which I saw Aishia just do last week on a new clients hair. 🤦🏽♀️ I say all that to say, my channel will get back to my current and fun natural haircare journey. But it’s also a space where I can tell my truth when I feel it’s warranted. ♥️ I appreciate you rocking with me while I navigate this awkward phase. Trust me, I can’t wait for the day when I don’t feel triggered about any of this nonsense anymore‼️💯
Please don’t take this as snark, but how much oil were you using that you were staining your pillowcases? I use castor oil regularly and don’t have this issue.
@ more so twisting butters. Oils itch my scalp. No matter how little you use it sure enough leaves that stain on the paper at the dentist/doctors office.
Hey Sis, ultimately yes I ended up having to finally Big Chop in April of this year. I’ve documented it all on my channel. You’ll see how I tried to salvage my hair. Girl I tried just about everything but the only thing that could get rid of all the mid strand splits was to Big Chop and start over. ☹️ Thank you for joining me and the fam over here. ❤ We keep it honest and give it straight no chaser‼️Lol 👀🤣
@@shelly.v.247 Thanks for the quick reply Shelly!! I took a look through some of your videos and I can upon the one that showed the strand with all the splits down the shaft. I was flabbergasted!!! I can’t believe that process caused that much damage to your hair. Tbs fully your hair looks beautiful, full, thick, and healthy now. I saw the most recent blowout. I enjoy your transparency and sharing your journey with us so we won’t make the same mistakes.
I followed the method too and noticed my hair was drier. I stopped using their methods 2 and half ago and added deep conditioner and leave in back into and included getting trims with my hair straightened my hair has gotten much better. I did not add oils or butters into my regimen because they aren’t necessary for my hair.
@@titanium114 Yup exactly! I think for some including myself just adding back in moisturizing products is enough. However, I do enjoy adding in a little light oil or hair serum when I feel my hair needs it. It’s way more simple than we’ve be lead to believe 😅
Yo! I'm stealing that clip of me lmao😂😂😂
@@AfrikanHairGod You see what I did there??!! 🤭🤣😂
I can’t say I’m surprised though because I believe she severely lacks integrity‼️💯
I love this for you Sis❣️❣️❣️
You just made me even more excited about what I’m going to do with my hair once it gets longer 😍
great insights because length doesn't automatically equal health. when it comes to major cuticle damage that length will come with density loss - no exceptions - on top of all the other webbing, discoloration, fraying of the strand and ends. your consistent voice on this is helping many who may never comment avoid this travesty. happy your hair is on a healthier journey.
@@basiqueopulence888 Speak on it Sis! You summarized it perfectly here! Thank you! ♥️
I can’t agree more
I stopped using heavy butters/creams for a few years ….because it was impacting my oily skin.
However, we were lead to believe that if we did use those items it would somehow stain our hair 👀🤦🏽♀️🤣
Also, I don’t think there’s a one size fits all solution.
This is so true and perfectly stated‼️💯
So very true and unfortunately several of us are great examples of this very thing right now. ☹️😝
They’re so incredibly childish for that. Blocking service providers for asking questions. 🙄
I was in SSC for a month and dipped. I got tired of them responding to people’s questions with more questions-never really giving the answers.
I also feel horrible for people who need to big chop but they’d rather deal with damaged hair than to cut it.
Say it louder for the people in the back!!! 🗣️
Shelly you have been so helpful, I started to follow that method all of about 2 weeks but I missed my butters and deep conditioning and so I stopped. Thank you for sharing and I wish you continued success with your hair journey !

Anything less and my hair looks and feels like an old dusty broom 🧹 🤣
This was a very hard lesson to learn but it’s made be dig deep and truly understand hair and many things pertaining to it. 🙌🏽
Thank you for sharing your thoughts.
My hair will snap, crackle, and pop right on off if I don’t
And I think it’s always a learning curve with curly hair. No matter how many years we are natural we are always learning something new, a new way to style, a new way to use a product. Our hair grows and matures like we do. I just hope more people get to see your videos, and other videos of women who have come out about curly cuts as well. I just don’t like how some people (even our own) will profit off of misguiding women and causing us to have setbacks on our hair journeys
Thank you for sharing your experience ! I know it’s helping women come to the light one by one 💕
Oh wow I wish I had thought to include everything you stated in this video too! There’s just so much that feels fundamentally wrong about that method. Like baking the hair underneath a hooded dryer with gel for copious amounts of time each week. 💀

@ yes to the dryer lol. My hair takes forever to dry but that made me wary. I’ll let it air dry 30-45 minutes then go in with my blowdryer/diffuser. @@shelly.v.247 yes ma'am!!!
I totally agree with you!!! it hard to see and extremely hard to accept reality.
So extremely true!!! ‼️💯

If you go look at my videos you will see what I did to repair my hair. I won’t lie, lots of cutting involved but you don’t necessarily have to. Just add back in products that are formulated with lots of oils & butters. Deep condition, use a leave in and add back in a little oil and or serum.
Hope that helps ❤️🩹
I did that method for awhile but found I couldnt sustain it. It looks nice but I back to the old ways that have been used for generations.
Right?! I think it’s a trend we’re all grateful that it’s fading away! 🙏🏽
I still can’t get over those multi-split strands 😫
It’s mind blowing! I never knew something like that was even possible! 😝
1:04 Not me thinking you were about to tell the bee 🐝 story 😂😂
3:46 You're so right!
8:46 😮😮😮
13:12 Also, the negative view around straightening our hair plays into this I think.
14:23 Ironic to be told you're curl chasing inside of a platform called "see some curls" 🤨
I think at the end of the day, with natural hair's propensity to be naturally non-greasy, until your hair is literally dripping with oil/grease, you can layer it on and your hair will thrive (with proper cleansing as well ofc). Our hair isn't meant to be coated in gels. Nobody's hair is, really.
Love the new healthy growth you've been getting!!!! ❤❤❤
The bee 🐝 story 👀🤦🏽♀️🤣. You’d have to have been on that live to know 🤣🤣🤣
I feel like I’m going to miss hitting so many of the awesome points you made but I’ll do my best not to.
Yes, SEE SOME CURLS is hilarious especially since I think their whole methodology is about seeing curls 🤣
Lastly, I agree that we can use anything in our hair as long as we properly wash it. Oil doesn’t stain your hair to where you can’t get it out as we were led to believe by them. 🫣🤣
It’s wild so many of us fell for the tomfoolery 😝
You explained it very well 💯.
Okay thank you so very for letting me know. I was worried I didn’t because I tend to ramble🤣
Did you ever experience crown damage? I think the salon clips for doing my wash and gos are causing it for me 😭
@@ie2663 Not that I’m aware of because I used roller clips when styling my hair. I realized the alligator clips could cause breakage. 😝
@@PreppyFay12 I have never knew this. Thank you for the information and to google -"can wash n gos cause hair weathering".
Cyn Doll knows nothing about hair lmao
I’m open to learning but it’s hard to from Cyn Doll because she talks about curing alopecia then eats Canes chicken, has a flare up and boom she’s back to square one! Plus listening to her try and explain hair science is embarrassing to partake in.🤷🏽♀️ 😓
How long did you do the method? Was it more than 30 days? Btw, your bf photos look like Alicia Keys❤
Haha I use to hear that a lot when I was younger. 🥰
I think I followed it for about 1.5 years.
Please know that I actually held back on releasing this video because I told myself let’s move on Sis.
Also, I agree with you. 🤦🏽♀️
I say all that to say, my channel will get back to my current and fun natural haircare journey. But it’s also a space where I can tell my truth when I feel it’s warranted. ♥️
I appreciate you rocking with me while I navigate this awkward phase. Trust me, I can’t wait for the day when I don’t feel triggered about any of this nonsense anymore‼️💯
@ ❤️
I’m here for all the BGC content!! Plus, using oils do not mean you have to put it on your scalp.
Thank you
Did you have to big chop after you noticed the damage? Sorry new to your channel, about to check out your videos.
Thank you for joining me and the fam over here.
1000%, including the "creators" of this method. Their hair literally looks like straw. I don't get it!
@@Indigogirl523 That part!!!!‼️💯
I’m nosy 🤫and want to know what’s goin’ to be said 😜🫣💜
@@KRenee71 Haha you know we love a good NOSEY friend! 👀🫣🤣
For those that choose to use oils and butters in their hair, they just need to make sure that properly cleanse it routinely. That way there’s not a build up. It’s way more simple than we’ve be lead to believe 😅
