I think it's because Spotify isn't used in Japan as far as I have heard. But yes as you said they should not be obscure! I discovered the Gazette, Dir en grey and many many other bands including 9 goats black out, rentrer en soi and deluhi but I only vaguely recall hearing about Kagerou. I am so happy I discovered them recently because their music is really unique and inspires me as a musician but I must admit it saddens me that they are not as well known as Dir en grey or the Gazette or X Japan or Luna Sea. But I do understand that Kagerou are heavy and raw and their music is perhaps not as accessible as the bands I mentioned. Though Dir en grey have a lot of songs that are not at all accessible . I mean Macabre, which is one of my favourite songs is a 10 minute masterpiece. . The Gazette song Carry and a lot of their earlier albums a not that accessible
Just found out Daisuke passed away. Now I am crying... I got into Jrock in middle school and I loved this group when I found it. I liked Daisuke a lot, I thought he was amazing! RIP Daisuke!
The second Visual Kei band I got into, and possibly my favorite Visual Kei Vocalist. . . : ( His pictures will still remain in my room along with some of my other favorite vocalist. . . I wonder how Kyo and Satsuki will handle this. . .
I found out about this band right after I bought an old issue of Cure magazine, three days ago. A week after Daisuke's death. I didn't find out that he was dead until just a few minutes after I hung his poster up and heard the first song by this band, today. I had a similar situation when I started listening to Versailles and Jasmine You died. D:

When I say accessible I just mean that some listeners may not appreciate it on first listen.
Kagerou is one of my favorite bands of all time. I will always remember Daisuke for his great and unique vocals.
I remember the autograph session 2005 in Munich and their last live in Berlin about a year later as I listen to this.
