    My 2016 Focus SE had the same speakerr wire configuration, but for some reason the "white" wires were all kind of light-orange but otherwise the brown wires and stripes were all the same. Also thanks to the comment that mentioned the issue with remote wire and your response - very helpful stuff.

    Thanks for the video! Although I've been installing stereos as a hobby since the days when minitrucks and Daytons were a thing, I've never installed an LC2i before. I just ordered one last night and was hoping for just a general purpose video with tips and tricks, that sort of thing, so imagine my surprise when the first LC2i video I find is for my car, the Mk3 Focus!
    Nice job too, that wiring job is cleaner than some of the "pro shop" jobs I've had to fix for friends over the years.

    I would. It wont take you anymore time than just tapping one. on top of that if a song fades the lows from right to left the music will sound very bad. You need the right and left. another positive is that if you want to add a 4channel later you will have less work to do.

  • @FatGuyBuilds

    Lost your fader and are using ignition wire as remote? Fader doesn't matter too much if you have a constant setting you prefer, but using ignition as remote can damage your equipment. You have some very helpful videos and are lucky to have a sidekick to hold the camera. I'm busy putting a new system in my 2012 Focus and wish I had records of the progress.

    • @FatGuyBuilds

      I have a low current relay running off the ACC of the ignition. then there is a fused line from battery to the amp. the low current relay makes sure no bad juju happens.

    I have a 2014 Ford Focus SE I bought a few months ago. There is no sound coming from the speakers. The radio is showing me what’s playing and everything seems to be working on the radio face but just no sound. Also have no sound for my back up assist. I bought a new receiver and installed it and checked all radio related fuses and still not working. Any help or advice would be appreciated. Thanks

    • @FatGuyBuilds
      @FatGuyBuilds  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      take a volt meter and connect it to the speaker terminals in the back of the trunk. if you see no voltage. then there must be some kind of cut wires somewhere.
      also, pull the radio out. unplug it. measure across the speaker wires and see how many OHMS it reads. should be between 4 and 6.

      +Tony Palomar well it will be fine but you will have 2 amps instead of 1 now.

  • @3DayFunk
    @3DayFunk 8 ปีที่แล้ว

    The Focus should have a fuse box in the trunk where you can pull power for the remote. There shouldn't be any need for a relay if you find you need a remote power source. Just use a fuse tap and your good to go.

    • @FatGuyBuilds
      @FatGuyBuilds  8 ปีที่แล้ว

      There is a need in order to get power as ACC and not running power.

    • @3DayFunk
      @3DayFunk 8 ปีที่แล้ว

      I'd have to look up my manual again to tell exactly what fuse it is, its been a couple years since I installed my amp, but you can pull accessory power from the fuse box in the trunk. To clarify, will only power when the car is turned on or the key is in the ignition and in the acc position.

    Good tip about the relay to make sure the thing shuts itself off. I wonder, though, if the factory radio has a 12-volt switched lead coming out of it somewhere that you could tap into without having to bother with a physical relay? Like you said, it's a very low-current remote-switch power-draw -- I wonder if the factory radio has something built-in that offers you that low-current 12-V source? Just a thought...

    • @FatGuyBuilds
      @FatGuyBuilds  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      There is NO REMOTE wire in these new cars. That is why i was using an audiocontrol unit. Power wire to the amp must be ran from the battery. 8ga is fine for most amps. 4ga if ur going higher power.

    Great video, however I have a question. I just bought 4 coaxial speakers and 2 underseat subs for my 135i. I also have a 4CH Rockford amp (t400-4) and a 2CH Soundstream amp (p4-500) and Im planning on connecting the coaxials to the Rockford and the subs to the Soundstream. So my question is, with this setup I mentioned will the LC2i work for this setup or do I need something with more channels, say a LC6i?

    • @FatGuyBuilds

    Jason first of all thanks for all your videos for Focus Stereo DIY stuff, i will be sure to upgrade 90% of the stereo in my ST now with confidence from your videos. Even the Symposer. I mainly wanted to know if you know how hard it would be to go from the 2014 ST1 stereo (basic in all of its basicness) to an ST3 mytouch screen.

    • @FatGuyBuilds

    • @FatGuyBuilds
      @FatGuyBuilds  9 ปีที่แล้ว

      Jose Delacruz Yes you still wire it up the same. but I can sell you my 5channel for 200$ plus shipping. then you just need an LC2i, which i might have a spare. for an extra 50. then just wire in a subwoofer only and instead of cutting the speaker wires going to the LC2i you will just splice the wires in a Tee. that way you keep stock speakers and wiring. but later when you want to upgrade, you will be all set. and you will only have to upgrade the door speakers.

    Great informative video, great job! I just bought the 2012 Focus in March. Now have over 64K miles, so no longer warranty. The radio does this loud popping and status noise, then sound completely cuts out. Turning car off and back on seems to reset it. Sometimes it will work fine for days, then cut out like that several times in a day. Found a LOT of other comments on a ford forum about Focus and Fiesta having these issues. Seems common trouble and comments talk about having to have dealerships replace the whole radio unit for over $700! Does your upgrade solve these issues? Does it make any difference if you also have volume controls on the steering wheel? What about just replacing speakers or the whole radio unit? There's comments about having to have Ford dealers reprogram a sync, but my model doesn't have sync or bluetooth. Any advice greatly appreciated! I like my music, but not rolling in dough right now to fix it!

      I have the same exact problem as Ruth. That crackling and popping noise that kills the audio is ridiculous. First I would just lose my audio without the popping static, so ford replaced the audio control module for 100 bucks. Now I get all that crackling AND the audio goes. Ford said they would give it another try at no extra charge, but Im not very confident they know what the problem is. Like Ruth said, any advice or similar experiences you can share would be greatly appreciated! Thanks

    I have the 6-speaker version of the SE. I want to use the stock radio so I retain all the functionality of the factory headunit, but I want to run all aftermarket thereafter. I would like to take the signal from the factory headunit's output, and use that as input into a pre-amp, then take the pre-amp outputs and run those to aftermarket amps. Is it possible to run the output of the factory headunit to RCA?

      Jason Georgievski Ah, thanks. I didn't realize that was the point of that unit. The question is, should I invest the $80-100 on the LC2i, or invest in an aftermarket headunit? The aftermarket unit would be a better source of sound quality, and I wouldn't have to worry about the bass rolloff. Obviously that would be a more expensive option. Do you know if it is possible to use an aftermarket headunit that retains the stock functionality? I'm mostly interested in the volume and seeking buttons on the steering wheel, and the USB connectivity in the center console. I am looking at putting a Pioneer Double DIN head unit in place of a factory Head Unit. When looking at the wiring I have the Can + and Can - Wiring into the back of my current stereo. I have never had a car than runs the Can Bus. Is it possible that someone knows what implications not connecting Can Wiring to the back of the new stereo has? Also on another note is it possible to get a connector to run stereo via the steering wheel controls?

    • @FatGuyBuilds
      @FatGuyBuilds  9 ปีที่แล้ว

      I would say if you want a double din, you may want to go to the junk yard and upgrade to the ford touch screen. CAN bus is the way the radio turns on and the way all of the stuff like SYNC works. I would never swap a head unit in any of these new cars. If you want a certain head-unit in the future you will need to buy a car that comes factory with it.

      Scott Rogers it more than likely sounds funny because you are using a cheap converter and you are using the rear speakers as the signal.

    Hello Jason, Can you please help me on what I have planned. Concerns, questions or comments appreciated.
    2016 Ford Focus
    Using factory radio (not Sony upgraded)
    F&R - Polk Audio DB6501 comp speakers (already installed w/metra wiring harness)
    (1) JL Audio W3v3 sub
    LC2i
    Pioneer GM-D9605 5-channel amp.

      looks fine to me, i dont see anything wrong with your set up.

      This 5channel amp is 2-Ohm stable @ sub channel. What Ohm should my (1) JL Audio W3v3 sub be to see 2-Ohm at amp?

    • @FatGuyBuilds
      @FatGuyBuilds  7 ปีที่แล้ว

      from what i see that sub only comes in 4 ohm. sooooo if you want to run it at 2 ohms, you need 2 of these subs. then run them in parallel.

    Do on the +12 volt the is power from the battery and the remote on is amp on ?

    • @FatGuyBuilds
      @FatGuyBuilds  10 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      you have to use a relay off the ignition for the remote wire. new cars run off of CAN communication.

    • @FatGuyBuilds
      @FatGuyBuilds  10 ปีที่แล้ว

      audiocontrol - LC2i
      and what ever kind of amp you want. I suggest a 5 channel so you can run your door speakers too. I have a spare LC2i and a spare ZX700.5 (943RMS Watts). you want to buy mine go ahead and private message me your paypal email address.

      Check with Crutchfield I always used them when installing stereos. I wonder why he did not just get a radio adaptor harness from some place like Crutchfield, there already pre wired, you just have to connect the factory OEM harness to the plug in Crutchfield harness and use wire clips to the radio itself.

    • @FatGuyBuilds
      @FatGuyBuilds  10 ปีที่แล้ว

      No matter what you will never get the acc off of the harness! These cars run off CAN bus

      To keep the Sync system would be one of many brands of adaptors. Just some are more costly than others and some are better rated than others.

    Where did you run your remote wire to?

    • @FatGuyBuilds
      @FatGuyBuilds  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      these cars do not have remote wires. the radio runs off of "CAN communications" soooo you either need an audiocontrol LC2-i or equivalent. of if the car has a normal key, then you need to run a relay off of the ignition switch.
