That sub was one of the first things to go in my 15 focus titanium. It’s better than nothing, but it can’t touch my sundowns. 🤣 Side note, dude. You’ve gotta be from Michigan. I’m guessing southern (Detroit area.) your accent makes me miss home!!

Looks like the minimum for the Kicker Comp RT is 5.66L/0.2 cu/ft. Would the sound be worth the cost of just swapping one in? Can I do it without much other modification?

I'm a noob with car audio - would I also NEED a better amp, or are the connectors on the back of the stock sub in the stock box the same as what I would need to put on a new one? Know the ohm rating on the speaker? And perhaps how much output the factory amplifier could provide? I'm willing to take the risk of getting just a replacement shallow mount sub and put it in the tiny stock box (probably fill the enclosure with poly-fil as well).
You've probably already had someone say something by now, but you could use poly-fill in that box to compensate or its lack of cu in's. From there you could easily do the other subwoofer you were talking a bout provided mounting depth was correct, and you could plug that back hole from the other sub.
Yes you could. But depending on the DB level you would like to hi it may be a waste of time. Especially if you have hi powered door speakers. I am overly happy with my small ported 10" woofer box.
Hey, I just installed the Sony sub in a non Sony Focus and was wondering how much power you got out of it? I haven't set levels yet, so it's well within the safe zone. Was just looking to maximize what I had and if there's a lot of headroom I might throw in some polyfill. Not looking for SPL, more so doing a SQ build on a budget.

The box and sub are POS. How does the Sony amp do with a good fosgate dvc 8” 2ohm per coil, in a bit larger enclosure? The 8 I’m think of using just needs .75cuft. I’m building the box if you think the amp is decent enough to push it.

I already upgraded the 4 doors speakers to Infinitys, but still would like a clearer bass.What do you think of adding the Kicker 40CWRT82 CompRT sub to the stock enclosure, but using a 1" MDF spacer, and filling it with Polyfill, that should make it sound quite more decent yes? As for the subwoofer wiring, since there are connectors on both sides, will it make a difference which pair of wires goes on which side?Thanks
+Vladx35 yes it will be better than stock. but not worth the hassle in my opinion. just buy the JL stealth box... or a box like what I have. but if you really need the space then yes do it. running a new sub on the stock amp though... I have never done that. lemme know how it goes. if ur using the stock amp. no it doesn't matter which wires go to which voice coil. all that matters is polarity.
I saw your video at the right time. I want to upgrade that sub so bad. I have a Cerwin vega stroker 12 with a 2500W Rokford amp. I know it might be over kill but I like to turn it up when I want to. Anyways you should make a video on the installation. I know a little bit about wiring but I have never messed with a car with a factory sub. Awesome video by the way.
I know I would but I need to save up a bit more and plus I take that sub to competitions so other then a comp I wont have it loud at all. Especially with my 2 year old in the car half the time. I have had that sub in three different vehicles and it handles low volume very well.
If you think this radio sucks try the se stock radio with sync. The sound midranges out at 3/4 volume. I am trying to get a stock sony audio head unit to plug into my se. ( in other countries there is a sony radio with a small screen like mine) Why in America do we get this lousy single tiny volume knob radio? The plugs on the sony audio mod. are the same!
I am upgrading everything in my 2012 Focus Titanium. I am going to try to look for a 5 channel amp, like you did, that works with my sub (Skar Audio VVX-8v3) and component speakers (Infinity Reference 6500CX). I am trying to learn as much about what to do as possible before I start taking apart my car. I'm not entirely sure what to do about the MyTouch radio. I'm assuming that I am disconnecting everything that goes to the Sony amp and speakers and getting the audio line from the MyTouch to my amp. Also I'm guessing that I will be running my own power wires to the tweeters and woofers from my amp. Sorry for the uncertainty by the way i'm trying to do this without a family member that has helped me with car audio in the past because they are not too good with car audio in newer cars because it is a lot less straight forward. Please, if you could I would appreciate any info on what I will need to do to the MyTouch to get audio the signal to my amp or any more info that I don't know about that you think I should know. Ok so im thinking that I am slightly misunderstanding this whole thing. Correct me if i am wrong but what i am missing here is that the i dont need to get rid of the amp that goes with the mytouch head unit because they need each other. There is not much difference between the two pieces working together and for example the stock stereo you had in the SE because all head units have an amp anyway and the amp that comes in the ST or my Titanium is the amp for the head unit but they just decided to put it in the trunk. What i will need to do is get an LC2 like what you did and wire stuff from the stock amp to the new amp via the LC2 then hook up my sub to my new amp. Again please if you see this add anything that i am missing. I guess i just wasnt really understanding how you did it and assumed i would need to take out the stock amp.
Good video and helpful. What is the stock size woofer that comes in the car. I bought my son 2004 Focus zx3 Roush. Great car for his first car. Had a new radio installed last week and now noticed we are getting a feed back noise from the stock woofer. Any ideas? I thought the woofer sounded bad before we put the radio in. Might replace it with something that just fits the stock box for now.
Do you think cutting a small port in the shitty stock box would help at all? I dont want to take up any space in my trunk and am looking for solutions to maybe replace the woofer and modify the stock box?
I've got the Ford Focus electric, which has the sony system without a subwoofer, because the battery goes where the subwoofer would go. When I play rock is sounds like garbage. What do you recommend?
+Andrew Obrigewitsch First thing you need to do Is buy a bulk pack of 32 sqft from www.woofersetc.com after that you can decide how it sounds and then move on from there. 32sqft will cost about 325$
What about porting the stock box to allow for a upgraded 8 inch sub to be used in it? Could that not be a simple solution if your not wanting to lose any trunk space? I personally don't want to lose the space and I imagine needing to get to the spare tire is a bit more of a pain in the ass now if you get a flat.
So i have my 2012 titanium hatchback and my option was a skar (cant remember the exact one but it was a 500 watt speaker and not only did the stocks push it perfectly but it made it sound nice and crisp and i doubt the have this deal anymore (or maybe they do) i was able to get it all the door speakers and tweeters replaced except for the ones in the dash
I have it bolted to the steel on the wheel well. so no you cant really get to the tire without unscrewing the sub, and then the box. You can mount it to what ever makes it easy for you.
hey what year is your focus , i have a 2012 with sync and im trying to figure out how to add a sub and amp to my sync setup without having to replace the front parts. ive looked at the harness behind the radio and i know where the speaker wires are at but other than that i cant find anything useful to use for remote + to turn the amp on or off , shoot me a pm please

you CAN NOT replace the stock amp. it has more functionality built in to it. you can ONLY add more amps to the system the same way I have done multiple times. see my other videos.

yo brother with my 16 st I'm going to do a free air kicker 12'' and a alpine v500 5 channel amp polk audio 6.5 in doors my plan is to mount a piece of plywood sprayed black in truck from end to end.. about 15'' wide .. mount the amp and kicker cone facing down directly on it with no box ... what you think ?
I traded in a car that had a Pioneer head unit (50w x4) and 4 Pioneer speakers, I loved the sound and never wanted a sub woofer (I've had thumps in the past). However, my new 2015 Focus car audio is mostly flat (no matter the adjustments). I do not want to change the head unit if I do not have to. I just want the same that I had with the Pioneer bouncy-spongy PERCUSSION! Would buying all new speakers do the trick and/or do I need a fucking amp to be wired up?
***** You do NOT need to change the head unit. you can however, upgrade your door speakers and the kicker RT is a good option for keeping your car stock. then you can run the infinity pr6500cs door speakers.... you can hook it all up and then see if you are happy. if not you will need a 5 channel amp.
***** just be sure when you hook up the new components, you run the crossover off of the mid-woofer signals and then cap the stock tweeter connections.

Also what about cap the little door tweeters don't new tweeters go in their place. Do I start by just going into the audio store and say hey I want 2 pr6500cs door speakers, 2 kicker RT's (do they have a model #?) I think I have 6 speakers.

I just got a 2015 ford focus st, pretty awesome car but disappointed in their attempt at an "upgraded" stereo system so I am thinking of doing my own upgrades but I don't know shit about installing audio equipment. Which do you think is most critical for getting an appreciable audio improvement door speakers, tweeters, sub or amp? My initial thoughts were the subwoofer. If you upgrade the sub to say that expensive JL audio stealthbox would I need to get a second amp? upgrade the current amp to something delivering more power? I am super nervous about messing with the amp cause it seems like a lot of the car's other high tech electronics could be rigged through it. I have other questions but this is already a lot. Appreciate the assistance bud!!
I'm wanting to replace my factory sub in my 2014 focus. I got a 10" 1100watt pioneer. I'm not sure how to install it . I'm not experienced in that field but would like any advice that somebody can give me.
itsonlyanime see the deal is that I knew a guy that worked for best buy and the mark up is about 200%... so I got everything for about half off. costing a total of around 600$ which is only 50$ more than the cost of just the amp and wiring kit alone. find a friend at best buy or haggle hard at a independent audio store.

Would it work to leave the stock amp in the car to power the cabin speakers and then wire in another amp using an lc2 to power an aftermarket sub? If something like this would be possible to your knowledge, would you be able to point me in the right direction to start? Thanks!
I don't, you would have to think of a different mounting method if you want to be able to access your spare tire. No big deal for me though, I just carry a drill with a fresh battery when i go on long trips.
If you want to get more airflow in the trunk cut a 10 inch hole in the box and put the other sub in the box but dont hook it up both will sink and pound

You would only need about a 50 watt RMS or 100-150 watt Maximum amp. I will Sell you the box with sub as you see it and I will thr as well for back up. 40$ plus shipping. let me know.
trust me, you wont need more than a single 10" in a ported box. I would not waste my storage space like that. where do you live? just check the wires from the ignition. find the wire that goes hot when you turn the key to ACC. then use that to activate your relay. then use the other side of the relay with a source from the fusebox or battery to go to your amp.
I used to think stereos were awesome when I was a kid. FYI to anyone...you wanna lose car weight NOT ADD. So yeah u may thump..but this is a sports sedan the more weight u add the slower ur times will be off the line. Depending on area you live in cops are an issue as well. Its a reason to stop u nice setup tho!
never been stop in my life for a stereo. the weight difference i added wont change much. on the road course i have been beating several more expensive performance cars... so no down side in my eyes.

honestly brother good choice my neighbor gave me one of these single dual voice coil Sony Subs each coil is rated for 45 Watts RMS what is a joke the reason why he gave it to me is the sub box got broke so I'm sitting here with this sub not knowing what to do with it I might just give it to a neighbor kid or something it is a piece of shit killer choice you killed it with the slot ported box design I bet you it sounds phenomenal
by the way the sub is a dual 2 ohm voice coil so I think they probably Bridget and run it at 4 Ohms either way the stock sub is a joke just looking at the motor structure and everything it is garbage I don't even have to hear it
there is no remote wire anymore. all new cars come with a data line that turns everything on when it sees data flowing. thats a 5V line and it is useless. you will have to run a relay off the ignition and use the battery as your source. sourry for the bad news. other than that, you will need to tap into the front speakers and then send that signal to the LC2i for conversion into RCA's.
+james borg but HD is sucky just like regular radio. I would run an Ipod in the glove box to the AUX cable rather than putting my hopes and dreams into HD radio. but hey if it is good for you then go for it. but I pay $7 a month for SAT radio, I cant live with out it.

I hope what ever you are using is powered. Please do not use one of the cheap models that just has inputs and rca outputs. if you dont put power and ground to the unit, just dont use it. YOU WONT BE HAPPY. at least i wouldnt be...
Not very wise to judge by appearence... What's the problem with the whole Sony chassis? Does it have to be "fancy" to sound good? Was does the size of the magnet have to do with the performance of ANY subwoofer? I am aware of many fantastic subwoofers with a simple corb and a small magnet. Τhe stock sealed enclosure is useless because other subs need more effective volume? Since when is that a criterium? Do you know the TSPs of the Sony sub? Maybe it's meant to perform in a 0.25 cubic feet cabin... The Sony sub is a "60 watt sub"? What on earth does this mean? You bought a Ford Focus and expected a high sonic performance for the factory sound-system? Really?

You can't run an aftermarket sub with out a 3/4" spacer ring. so you can run a kicker comp RT 8" with a 3/4" spacer and it will work ok.

There is not much difference between the two pieces working together and for example the stock stereo you had in the SE because all head units have an amp anyway and the amp that comes in the ST or my Titanium is the amp for the head unit but they just decided to put it in the trunk. What i will need to do is get an LC2 like what you did and wire stuff from the stock amp to the new amp via the LC2 then hook up my sub to my new amp. Again please if you see this add anything that i am missing. I guess i just wasnt really understanding how you did it and assumed i would need to take out the stock amp.

Good video and helpful. What is the stock size woofer that comes in the car. I bought my son 2004 Focus zx3 Roush. Great car for his first car. Had a new radio installed last week and now noticed we are getting a feed back noise from the stock woofer. Any ideas? I thought the woofer sounded bad before we put the radio in. Might replace it with something that just fits the stock box for now.

def won't help putting a port in the stock box. replacing the stock sub and adding spacers do help, if you really need the extra space.

What about porting the stock box to allow for a upgraded 8 inch sub to be used in it? Could that not be a simple solution if your not wanting to lose any trunk space? I personally don't want to lose the space and I imagine needing to get to the spare tire is a bit more of a pain in the ass now if you get a flat.
if u dont wajt to lose space just swap in a kicker compRT and call it good. it is what it is and live with it until u stop caring about space.
So i have my 2012 titanium hatchback and my option was a skar (cant remember the exact one but it was a 500 watt speaker and not only did the stocks push it perfectly but it made it sound nice and crisp and i doubt the have this deal anymore (or maybe they do) i was able to get it all the door speakers and tweeters replaced except for the ones in the dash

I have it bolted to the steel on the wheel well. so no you cant really get to the tire without unscrewing the sub, and then the box. You can mount it to what ever makes it easy for you.

you CAN NOT replace the stock amp. it has more functionality built in to it. you can ONLY add more amps to the system the same way I have done multiple times. see my other videos.

I traded in a car that had a Pioneer head unit (50w x4) and 4 Pioneer speakers, I loved the sound and never wanted a sub woofer (I've had thumps in the past). However, my new 2015 Focus car audio is mostly flat (no matter the adjustments). I do not want to change the head unit if I do not have to. I just want the same that I had with the Pioneer bouncy-spongy PERCUSSION! Would buying all new speakers do the trick and/or do I need a fucking amp to be wired up?
***** You do NOT need to change the head unit. you can however, upgrade your door speakers and the kicker RT is a good option for keeping your car stock. then you can run the infinity pr6500cs door speakers.... you can hook it all up and then see if you are happy. if not you will need a 5 channel amp.
***** just be sure when you hook up the new components, you run the crossover off of the mid-woofer signals and then cap the stock tweeter connections.

Also what about cap the little door tweeters don't new tweeters go in their place. Do I start by just going into the audio store and say hey I want 2 pr6500cs door speakers, 2 kicker RT's (do they have a model #?) I think I have 6 speakers.

I just got a 2015 ford focus st, pretty awesome car but disappointed in their attempt at an "upgraded" stereo system so I am thinking of doing my own upgrades but I don't know shit about installing audio equipment. Which do you think is most critical for getting an appreciable audio improvement door speakers, tweeters, sub or amp? My initial thoughts were the subwoofer. If you upgrade the sub to say that expensive JL audio stealthbox would I need to get a second amp? upgrade the current amp to something delivering more power? I am super nervous about messing with the amp cause it seems like a lot of the car's other high tech electronics could be rigged through it. I have other questions but this is already a lot. Appreciate the assistance bud!!

itsonlyanime see the deal is that I knew a guy that worked for best buy and the mark up is about 200%... so I got everything for about half off. costing a total of around 600$ which is only 50$ more than the cost of just the amp and wiring kit alone. find a friend at best buy or haggle hard at a independent audio store.
How difficult is it getting to the spare tire with the new box clamped down?

Would it work to leave the stock amp in the car to power the cabin speakers and then wire in another amp using an lc2 to power an aftermarket sub? I don't, you would have to think of a different mounting method if you want to be able to access your spare tire. No big deal for me though, I just carry a drill with a fresh battery when i go on long trips.
If you want to get more airflow in the trunk cut a 10 inch hole in the box and put the other sub in the box but dont hook it up both will sink and pound

You would only need about a 50 watt RMS or 100-150 watt Maximum amp. I will Sell you the box with sub as you see it and I will thr as well for back up. 40$ plus shipping. let me know.

behind the glove box is a grommet.
trust me, you wont need more than a single 10" in a ported box. I would not waste my storage space like that. where do you live? just check the wires from the ignition. find the wire that goes hot when you turn the key to ACC. then use that to activate your relay. then use the other side of the relay with a source from the fusebox or battery to go to your amp.

I used to think stereos were awesome when I was a kid. FYI to anyone...you wanna lose car weight NOT ADD. So yeah u may thump..but this is a sports sedan the more weight u add the slower ur times will be off the line. Depending on area you live in cops are an issue as well. Its a reason to stop u

honestly brother good choice my neighbor gave me one of these single dual voice coil Sony Subs each coil is rated for 45 Watts RMS what is a joke the reason why he gave it to me is the sub box got broke so I'm sitting here with this sub not knowing what to do with it I might just give it to a neighbor kid or something it is a piece of shit killer choice you killed it with the slot ported box design I bet you it sounds phenomenal
by the way the sub is a dual 2 ohm voice coil so I think they probably Bridget and run it at 4 Ohms either way the stock sub is a joke just looking at the motor structure and everything it is garbage I don't even have to hear it
yeah it sounds great. still very happy with my set up.
bridging it will run a dual 2ohm into a 1 ohm. running in series will make it a 4ohm.
there is no remote wire anymore. all new cars come with a data line that turns everything on when it sees data flowing. thats a 5V line and it is useless. you will have to run a relay off the ignition and use the battery as your source. sourry for the bad news. other than that, you will need to tap into the front speakers and then send that signal to the LC2i for conversion into RCA's.
TS-SW2002 would be a perfect fit maybe?

Not very wise to judge by appearence... What's the problem with the whole Sony chassis? Does it have to be "fancy" to sound good? Was does the size of the magnet have to do with the performance of ANY subwoofer? I am aware of many fantastic subwoofers with a simple corb and a small magnet. Τhe stock sealed enclosure is useless because other subs need more effective volume? Since when is that a criterium? Do you know the TSPs of the Sony sub? Maybe it's meant to perform in a 0.25 cubic feet cabin... The Sony sub is a "60 watt sub"? What on earth does this mean? You bought a Ford Focus and expected a high sonic performance for the factory sound-system? Really?
