    Great video. Thanks. I've been fishing on and off for years and always used the half blood knot (later on the tucked half blood knot). Recently learnt the knotless knot as well as the knot that you use for a D rig (not sure what its called), the palomar knot tonight as well but this looks a good one to add to the armoury. Would you recommend the palomar knot over this one for any other situations?

    @M6MDR 10 ปีที่แล้ว

    @Dániel Horváth he's not saying Tagen, he's saying Tag End which usually means the short end of the line being tied into a knot.

    • @MylesGascoyne
      @MylesGascoyne  10 ปีที่แล้ว

      Thank you TeKno yes it is 'tag end'

  • @MylesGascoyne
    @MylesGascoyne  11 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    'tag end' is the short length line that you usually trim off when the knot is finished. I hope that helps.

    Hi Myles, thank you for this video. I just bought some ESP syncro XT Mono, it says on the back of the box, to use this 5 turn grinner knott Now, i see you use this for tying swivel, can i also use this knot for the hook also please? many thanks Si.

    Isnt a hang mans noose easier to tie? Wrapping around rather than creating a loop and feeding through. Bit fiddly isnt it or is that the correct knot for that?

    • @MylesGascoyne
      @MylesGascoyne  ปีที่แล้ว

      It depends in what material you are tying. In monofilament nylon this is a good strong knot retaining 100% of the lines strength. There are other knots. Some simpler some definitely not. Some work better with fluorocarbon and some with braid. The best knot to use depends on so many factors. I have not tested a hangman’s noose in monofilament fishing line so I can’t comment on that. With regard to how easy it is to tie, we’ll that’s down to practice. I can tie this knot with my eyes closed!

  • @ORIGINOLINDIVIDUAL

    could you use this knot for spooling up your reel ?

    • @MylesGascoyne
      @MylesGascoyne  8 ปีที่แล้ว

      Yes, it's a great knot for just that. You may want to just do 2 or 3 turns so that the knot is not too strong. If you get spooled by a fish, the knot will break and not potentially take your rod and reel! That may not be an issue with light line but with heavy tackle I've seen it go wrong!

    • @ORIGINOLINDIVIDUAL
      @ORIGINOLINDIVIDUAL 8 ปีที่แล้ว

      Myles Gascoyne thanks for replying, is it basicly the same as a hangmans knot ?

    • @MylesGascoyne
      @MylesGascoyne  8 ปีที่แล้ว

      Yes, in that it tightens liket a noose. But is tied a bit differently.

  • @MylesGascoyne
    @MylesGascoyne  12 ปีที่แล้ว

    In the UK this knot is called the Grinner knot. It is well documented as such in magazines, books and DVDs. I appreciate it is different to the Grinner knot known elsewhere in the world. I will re label the video to indicate this.

  • @toneata
    @toneata 11 ปีที่แล้ว

    Thanks, so basically the loop should go behind the standing line?

  • @toneata
    @toneata 11 ปีที่แล้ว

    If tying this with the swivel in the left hand (for a right hander), would the standing line still be behind the loop or is everything reversed?

  • @MylesGascoyne
    @MylesGascoyne  11 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    You're welcome, glad to be of help.

  • @MylesGascoyne
    @MylesGascoyne  11 ปีที่แล้ว

    I am a right hander and that's how I tie it! But if you really want to tie it the other way around you would need to reverse everything for sure

      SHOW you? Dont know how to post videos. Tell you: Line goes thru hook eye, 3 twists, THEN loop back on itself, a further 3 twists, moisten and pull tight

      Guys, this is what is known as a Grinner knot in the UK. In other parts of the world you are correct David a Grinner is tied differently. Please don't use this space for an argument. Thanks, Myles
