Happy Nee Year Rod! TYVM for the wonderful snowpack hydrology report! Woohoo 130% percent that’s awesome! Just love the snow in the mountains for the water storage and outdoor activities. Also love the mild rain here in the valley. For those whining, we don’t get “winter” until late January, February, March and sometimes even April. There’s always something at least once but not usually lots of snow thankfully. We don’t have the tools for that in the valley. We do, however, get some nasty ice. I grew up here and we never got many snow days even before the warming trend started.
Safe journey and enjoy the coast! Enjoy your time - the empty nest is looming all too soon.

Thanks for the clarification, Rod. At my age, I’m always in neutral. This forecast will mesh well with my blah countenance.

    Happy New Years Rod!
Long range forecasts show persistent high pressure in all of January and most of February. Heights are high in January. Seems odd for a La Nina year. Systems seem weak. Odd. Your winter forecast was spot-on thus far with near to slightly below normal rainfall and snow pack. Last windstorm was weaker than normal too...trends here on weakening everything.

Yes to all, but I will remind you that models showed high pressure ridging and mostly dry the last 2 weeks of December, until the models changed on a dime and the big wet finish arrived. Happy New Year.

I imagine with ocean temperatures trending the way they are, La Nina’s will only be remembered in history books….ocean temps are just rising so fast.

PNW winter weather sucks anymore. Our low land snow chances are coming to an end in the future. If you want that, your going to have to move where they get it. Our weather is changing.

Exactly why we shouldn’t even be talking about ENSO cycles……they are a poor predictor of upcoming weather patterns….especially when we have record high ocean temps everywhere.
For instance during last years El Niño a few daily record lows were set in eastern OR/WA where I grew up.
And this year has been the warmest start to winter I can ever remember.
