Yeah when I saw all those dead walruses the first thing I thought was will someone transport that blubber to the starving polar bears. I mean that would be such a nice thing to do .
I don't even give a damn about walruses, but watching them plummet from those cliffs where they ordinarily shouldn't even be anywhere near and down to their death was awful. Wild animals dying cruelly is nothing new, I know - baby turtles snatched by crabs and birds, orca pods torturously ramming seals repeatedly - but those walrus falling to either grievous wounds and/or to their death somehow takes it to a different level, especially because of just how... *unnecessary* it is.
without audio narration... i thought they were committing suicide. I mean how the narrator knew they were just hungry and why they climb that cliff in the first place?

This whole documentary series should be mandatory to show to students/children in every school. *If any teacher is reading this at least try to show it in your school 🙏*
@muskyERA you said some good points there but why blame on women? Men like sports cars and sh*t, both to blame here.. we are talking about education, how do expect people to do all of what you mentioned if it's not taught in schools??? I started changing everything I buy and eat 10 years ago from similar documentaries and educating myself, it was easy for me because I was raised to buy only what's necessary. But now it's urgent to tell everyone about how they affect the plant in ways they never thought of.
Andby this stupid statement, youre a proof. The problem are not citizens, but companies and politics. Trust me if you set a eco rules, most people will follow. Look at Europe. The problem are politics, whos bribed wont tax/ fine the companies. Wont set up a rules that each company must follow. And im pointing a finger at USA and China. 90% of coutries in Europe reduce the CO2 emission since 1980 by 20%. America increase by 50% and China increase by 500%.
One of the best documentary I have ever seen on Antartica. This documentary simply telling us how bad we are and how bad we are treating our beautiful planet. Due to our bad work how we are making the world so dangers for these beautiful creatures who are living there. The crew of camera operators contributing to this documentary are absolute Masters of their craft, and there will never be a voice as iconic. This is truly a masterclass of entertaining education.
I seen in the news that they've put these on TH-cam for free at the request of teachers during the COVID-19 pandemic. They've always allowed teachers access to educational documentaries via Netflix for free (so they can show students in class), but now teachers are having to move classes online. Very commendable to see a global big fish putting education before making an extra buck! Well done Netflix!
felt so conflicted with that polar bear and seal pup scene. On one hand I wanted the bear to get something to eat but on the other, i wanted the seal pup to escape.
I hear ya. But just imagine how many individual creatures get eaten alive every single day. THAT is the reality of life... a hard existence capped off by a cruel end.
I feel like that's the point they were making there. On one hand, we immediately empathize with the pup purely because it's a defenseless baby... however, the bear isn't killing because it likes to, but simply because it needs to eat, too. Very rarely are there any true "heroes" or "villains" in nature, simply creatures doing what they must to survive according to their instincts. Cultures may view life and death as opposites, but there's one thing they inherently have in common: *Neither life **_nor_** death are fair.* Not to the young, the old, the strong or the weak. And in that, the grown bear and the seal pup were equals.
The frozen landscapes and the glaciers are just so beautiful. Looks like a place where time stands still. The whales and especially the orcas fascinate me so much. I'd be frightened to see them in real life but their intelligence and beauty is just beyond words. It's astonishing how water comes in different froms... Props to Netflix for making this series available for everyone. One of the best documentary series I've watched so far.
Look how they are struggling to live and we as humans were just destroying their habitats. Our Planet is uniquely beautiful. I hope that we keep it as it is or (it was) before.
@@ThaBeatConductor You took the words right out of my mouth! There are a few others who show up consistently in these comments sections. It would be nice if TH-cam would delete their comments instead of deleting some videos because of their content rules! Thumbs up for you.
I just can’t imagine how much effort the people behind the scenes take to get these amazing shots. Also, the time it takes to get these facts, shots, and difficulties along the way. I would just like to give a tip of the hat to Netflix and Planet Earth.
Planet work does all the heavy lifting. Netflix just uses our money and goes hmmm... What to buy and click buy on the online shop and puts it in their store.
Every time he switches to a new scene my mind begs, “Please don’t tell me these animals are dying. Please.” It strains my ears to hear how humans are destroying natural biodiversity, ranging from local animals to faraway polar wonders. Yet this is a great way to spread awareness. Thank you David Attenborough for bringing this to is always my favorite series❤❤❤❤❤
The scene with the walrus is so touching and at the same time an absolute work of art. The music, the camera work, the polar bear that is seemingly giving CPR to the bear, and the body of the walrus that is shown on the frontier of water as sir Attenborough is talking about the frontier of climate change. A must watch for everyone EDIT: I hope it was clear that the CPR bit was just a poetic reference. Of course, I’m not suggesting that a polar bear can perform CPR or would even care in that way :)
I like to believe in that moment the Polar Bear while looking at 5 dead walruses, more food he could eat in a year and is thinking.. climate change is pretty cool.
The whole film of that event has been edited to leave out the three polar bears chasing them over the cliff this has nothing to do with climate change and is a well known event do some research please, Google the real story it's a scandal
I'm glad that I grew up watching and appreciating nature documentaries of the kind that National Geographic and the BBC are so good at. That experience gave me a great appreciation and love for nature. Watching this, even as I appreciate the magnificent technical excellence of it, it shook me to the core, especially that scene with the walruses falling from the cliffs. What are we doing, as a specie? How long will it take us to wake up and do more to protect our planet? It is the only one we've got and none of us will be able to go anywhere else any time soon.
@Doesn't Jump to conclusions Normally propaganda has a point to it. What is there to gain from this being propaganda? Thats one question idiots like you always seem to avoid. You just shout "lies, propagangda, dont fall for it" yet can never show anything to back up your idiotic and uneducated views. All it comes down to is you cannot accept there are people out there smarter than you. When you man up and get over that fact, you'll be a better, more rounded human being who understands how things work. But you wont because its easier for the morons to shout "propaganda" at every minor thing their pigeon brains cannot comprehend.

"The things parents go through to deliver a meal." " If only the kids knew." Astonishing stories, what a fascinating yet brutal world we live in. And Mr. David Attenborough's commentary makes it even more interesting. All hail to the Creator of this mind boggling wonder of a Planet.
A huge huge huge round of applause for the team and Netflix for bringing up this content -- My heart Felt Joy and Really felt sorrow at the same time... IDK how can I express emotions
Sir David Attenborough is 96 years old. Of all the celebrities in the world you thought should be immortal, he's on the top of my list (together with Arnold Schwarzenegger). I'm at the age now (33 years old) where my heroes are starting to die off, I fear Sir Attenborough is not long for this world. If we can somehow fix this downward spiral of disaster we're causing on this planet, I think his legacy will be truly immortal.
@@niles8102 Well, one of them brokered galactic peace with multiple hostile civilizations, the other slew a balrog single handedly. I'd say they've earned immortal legacy!
I cried while watching this, whispering to myself saying “this is our fault...” repeatingly seeing those animals casually decreasing as us not doing anything to stop global warming and too stop all this pain that I see around me, seeing these animals being hurt while I just sit their and watch them suffer from pain... how much long will their home be taken away from this cruel world of pain? I hope my 8th grade teacher shows us this at class for others to see the Perspective I have experience in this documentary.
You know it’s mostly our fault. They smoke, they us car fuel, they burn factories, theylitter, they abuse, they destroy, they don’t care, they laugh, they watch as they are in pain. So basically we did this to OUR Earth, now dying slowly... 2020 things stopped working, less factories, more clean air, less trash, more clean water, less oil, happy marine animals. Less cuts, more happy jungle/Amazon/ tropical animals.
Our planet is the epitomy of a perfect documentary. Indeed, while watching I went through a whole host of emotions. I rooted for every animal when he was in jeopardy. There where moments when I shed a tear (especially in the moment with walrusses) . I reckon ws all have to give a shout out to the shooting team and the narrator. Needles to say, these series is a work of art.

Yes. But the info we are given by the mainstream (corrupt) media is NOT correct on HOW to take care of it. The people (big money) who have the power to influence are causing far more harm than good. People should visit the 'Tony...

The falls of the walruses made me cry, they had to do it to avoid the crowd and go back to the water and eat. But what made me cry more is that the fact that one of the biggest reasons why they experience that is us, humans. 2040 is getting closer and realizing that ice melting gives the fact that we would lose these precious lives.
When we compare our life struggles to these animals it’s really nothing. Their struggle is for almost everything survival, food and protection. In there world their is no protagonist nor antagonist. It’s all about surviving that very movement.Sir David Attenborough 🙏🏻
I never thought of myself as greedy or self indulgent until I watched this program. The things I do everyday, without forethought, bring such harm to our planet and the creatures that live on it.

really great visuals and storytelling in this episode! but honestly, i feel like the focus on the frozen worlds kinda overshadows other equally important ecosystems. it’d be interesting to see more balance in showcasing different environments. what do you think?
The fact is Arctic is so fragile... And it depends on us humans activities is so frightening to think. So thank you this team for awarness. The camera crew & sir David deserves an oscar rightfully.
I think this is an irreversible action that we humans have done. And now there will be no end to it and every generation will be dealing with worse and worse climates with more species dying every year.
The most endangered and treasured creature in this series isn't one we can see ...but instead the one we are listening to, it's host. I can't think of anyone who has devoted as many decades of their life to educating the world to both the beauty and diversity of life on our planet and the perils that it faces as this one man. Once he is gone who could possibly replace him? His legacy is priceless.
youre more concern to someone who has the ability to go the greatest hospital on earth the instance he sneeze abnormally than the walruses who jumped off of a cliff coz humans keep heating up the planet. you shouldnt allowed to consume anything this planet provides.
Sir David Attenborough is, indeed, a global icon and treasure. More importantly, though, how many of us are doing the things he would want us to do; to joining his lifelong efforts to save and protect our planet?
I can't help feeling in utter awe of all the people engaged in the creation of this incredible, almost incomparable, brilliant doc., esp. those cameramen who had to endeavor & endure w/ an infinite patience so as to procure these unmissable & nearly indelible momentous footages one after another in the face of some adverse conditions well deserve my highest kudos. The post-production crews such as editors, audio men w/ the effective background music, a scriptwriter w/ researchers, a convincing narrator, etc., they all achieved the great job to enhance a wealth of magnificence, excitement, & intrigue but they did it so at the comfort of their studio in their own country, & that is a pivotal difference from the aforementioned photographers. Nonetheless, thanks to them all in the production, we could enjoy & appreciate this singular doc. for free on YT w/o being interrupted its continuity by those annoying ads or adverts in the UK. . Much obliged to you for that. (08/31/24)

I've saw that clip quite a while ago and BBC (EDIT: Netflix NOT the bbc) got hammered for saying it was due to climate change. I can't remember the detail for certain but am pretty sure it went along the lines of: David Attenborough filmed much the same scene about twenty years earlier (they showed both clips) when there was plenty of sea ice, stating another reason why they climbed the cliffs. It's definitely a sad sight but pinning that one on 'climate change' was a pretty unforgivable cheap shot which - as far as I know - neither the BBC nor David Attenborough have retracted despite being asked to do so

This is my 4th time watching this series. Sir David Attenborough’s voice modulation is so so so very soothing to listen to and the music is awesome. The cinematography is beyond this world. This is definitely a treat for the 6 senses in our body. And then it makes us think long and hard about the waste we dump into this world like as if it belongs to us, the destruction we cause just by merely existing on earth. The excesses we use in mindfully. And finally our willingness to do anything for money just as if money is going to save us from dying in a storm.

It is without any doubt in my mind, the most chilling & damn well tragic few minutes ever committed to film. Things have reached a tipping point. This is real. And we are in the worst kind of trouble imaginable.
Thank you so much for sharing these documentaries with us. We get to witness some of the most stunning places on earth, but it's heartbreaking to see how human activities can ruin the beauty of nature even in the places that are hard to reach. 😔 We need to take care of our planet because if we continue to harm it, animals and humans will suffer. 🌍 It's important to remember that we people are just a small part of this world, and we don't own it. Plants and animals have the right to live on it too. 🌱🐾 I felt sad for the polar bears and the walrus; they shouldn't have to suffer because of our actions. 😢 Thank you, Netflix, for creating this video and opening our eyes to these issues. 👏If we all work together then we can bring life back to earth.
The scene of walrus made me literally cry. Often i can restrain myself from crying but in that scene, i can't help myself but to just let out my emotion. I even told myself to not cry, and i end up having a pain in my throat from repressing that feeling.

I started changing everything I buy and eat 10 years ago from similar documentaries and educating myself, it was easy for me because I was raised to buy only what's necessary. But now it's urgent to tell everyone about how they affect the plant in ways they never thought of.
J P this documentary series should be mandatory for all the people don’t believe in climate change.
Andby this stupid statement, youre a proof. The problem are not citizens, but companies and politics. Trust me if you set a eco rules, most people will follow. Look at Europe. The problem are politics, whos bribed wont tax/ fine the companies. Wont set up a rules that each company must follow.

Cultures may view life and death as opposites, but there's one thing they inherently have in common:
*Neither life **_nor_** death are fair.* Not to the young, the old, the strong or the weak. And in that, the grown bear and the seal pup were equals.
😭😭😭😭
Nature is cruel, amoral, and absolutely beautiful.
It’s the circle of life

The scene with the walrus is so touching and at the same time an absolute work of art. The music, the camera work, the polar bear that is seemingly giving CPR to the bear, and the body of the walrus that is shown on the frontier of water as sir Attenborough is talking about the frontier of climate change. A must watch for everyone
EDIT: I hope it was clear that the CPR bit was just a poetic reference.

"The things parents go through to deliver a meal,if only they knew"...wow God bless your people, and your animals.
Are you not from Earth?

When the mama seal came back and looking for her pup. That literally made me cry. 🤧😭😭😭
Made me cry toooo 😢😭😭😭
Me hoodoo wahhhhhh😦😭😢😢😢😢😭😔😔😔😯😯
It is very sad that all of this will eventually come to an end because of us humans.
I have no words to say thanks to Netflix for such an amazing heart warming and breaking series🙏🙏
Please read my post above from May 15th 2021 if the powers that be don't "cancel me". Everyone must read and educate themselves...these productions are very powerful but the truth is more powerful.
When Sir David starts talking, everything is right again.
including the scene where he lies about the walruses going over the cliff?
NetFlix camera crews used drones to scare them off the cliff (so they could get a heart wrenching shot)
@@poliscikosis3187 are you for real
@@martinthegamer9040 yes. I'm being very serious.
@@poliscikosis3187 how do you know?

:((( i cried too much
They even have fear in there eyes 😭
:((((((((((((
The seal pups were bad enough, but those poor walrus. I wasn't expecting anything like that.
Silly thing to jump of a cliff rofl
Ikr😭 I cried a lot too
bdw, what's the name of the background music?
@@-SharonSaputraSilaban i don't really know
thank you Netflix for this amazing series. I think not only students at schools should watch this but EVERYONE living on this planet should
i need some inspiration please kindly help me to improve my video content, any advice or suggestion please leave below the video
I want to cry... what upset scene... everyone of us should watch these series and consider the consequences of warming climate!!! Though human being so selfish and greedy that it is unlikely most of us will be touched, unfortunately... thanks a lot to producers of these series. Great, brilliant, amazing job!!!THank you!!!
id like to thank Netflix and the creator of the show for this. I just think its crazy how bad these conditions were 3 years ago when the video was posted, I couldn't imagine it now
the story of penguins is lovely, but that of walruses is too heart-broken.
My Zoology teacher suggested and included this into our syllabus and I'm thanking Netflix for being an eye-opener to the world.
Such beautiful cinematography. 😍This planet is beautiful. Sad that we’re destroying it more than making it better though😔

How are you destroying it? I'm not doing that at all.
@@saturnx311 It may not be you. Or me. But all around us, we can see how people don’t care for their environment; people throw trash where they shouldn’t, pollutants in rivers etc

The baby seal escaping from the polar bear was so satisfying to watch
But few moments later I got pity on polar bear because it had nothing to eat.
Why is this like this? Why can't all be happy at the same time? This video really is fascinating and saddening at the same time
Because Second Law of Thermodynamics. Life is order, but for order to exist more chaos follows in its wake. If it makes you feel any better we’re all just the same matter that existed at the beginning of the universe swirling back-and-forth between forms
I seem to always feel for the predator, especially polar bears. 🐻❄
Don't think toooooo much to the level drives you crazy lol! Leave nature to take care of itself. They were there for millions of years and were continuing smoothly. Just watch, appreciate, and educate yourself to become a better human.
@@touringthecitywalking9209 ya I know but I just can't completely ignore it either. Hope you are doing well.
It's the law of nature and the way of the world!
This documentary is really amazing.
I mean how beautifully they've demonstrated the life in Antarctica and the creatures who are enduring the consequences of our silly mistakes...
Repent and turn to Jesus Christ cos

well, silly mistakes is the wrong way to put it. societal progress, which we are now learning the repercussions of, and making corrections.

@@andyharrington5153 Sir David Attenborough
This series is a masterpiece and everything, but can we appreciate the elite sound production and the background music
Thank you netflex for putting this on TH-cam for free 👏👏👏
Thanks to you David Attenborough and your crew for your tremendous work making this documentary to inspire us all
Thank you Netflix and to everyone behind the Our Planet series. It made me realize how as humans, we must not only think for ourselves but also for the other living species in our planet. And that every action has its consequences.
❤❤❤❤❤
I mean- I have no words... It's so beautiful yet so realistic at the same time. It shows how we, animals, and humans are totally at the mercy of Mother Earth. What a legendary documentary series. Well done Netflix
ofc its realistic its real life
I don’t know that if I woul be able to go to the Arctic or Antarctic region in my life time, but through this fantastic documentary I abled to observe these regions. I enjoyed this very much. Thanks very much to the team Netflix and of course to Attenborough for his extraordinary presentation. From Bangladesh 🇧🇩
It will be a gut wrenching sad day when Sir David Attenborough passes away. Turned 98 May 8, 2024. (born 1925) He dedicated his entire life to nature. Watching from Switzerland, Oct. 8, 2024
It feels good to hear Sir David Attenborough with his legendary voice speaking about our great planet.
Cried for first episode. Didn't expect second episode made me cried so hard. It hurts to see how these poor babies struggle to live.
A masterpiece that deserves to be known to the whole world. Thank you so much for this wonderful experience and true awareness of what our mother nature is going through during this difficult time.
