Rod, love your work. New subscriber here. Live in Seattle. Why do all these lows this year get right near the coast and then curl northwestward and back out to sea making glancing blows, in general, rather than making landfall? There are a few that do, but this year it seems like they've just flirted with the interior rather than crossed into the area. Thank for all you do.
Great to know you live in Seattle, I will pay more attention. Yes, the constant similar tracks going back to the "bomb" cyclone are due to upper ridging that has not fully dissipated. The inland ridge pattern steers low center northward and the southerly flow of the upper trough offshore aids in turning the low centers north and to the northwest. Believe said pattern will break at some point.
Awesome. Wonderful explanation. Thank you!
Ho Ho Ho Mary Christmas
I really need to spend a Christmas up at Mount hood.
Thank you Rod for your detailed forecast. Enjoying the mild stretch, as another cold spell will surely come our way.
I am tired of record highs…..oh well this is the future…
Rod, this channel is great stuff! Thank you for doing this consistently. It’s greatly appreciated!
Man, I Want Snow SOOO Badly! :(
Working on it...
It was 60 here in canby at 1pm. Then a shower came over and it started to drop temperature. This evening in the mid 40s. One of the mildest Decembers in a long time.
What do you mean….this has been practically every December the last 5-10 years…..this is the new normal.
Certainly recently
@@rodhillweather I really think we need to stop this whole song and dance regarding La Niña/El Nino. La Nina’s or even Neutral years trending toward La Niña are not representative of historic trends anymore. This last triple dip La Niña was dismal. We should focus our attention on just how above average our winters will be year to year, and why in the last decade or so Ridiculously Resilient Ridges (RRR’s) seem to be able to sit over the PNW for weeks at a time. I still have never got a good explanation of why high pressure seems so dominant over low’s. I doubt I will ever see a record low recorded in the Willamette Valley in my lifetime.
Hi Rod. You reported 60 degrees in Corvallis but NOAA reports 55 degrees here Corvallis (at 6 PM!). I'm curious as to why the 5 degree difference within a ten mile span. Any ideas?
I don't understand your question. Corvallis airport reported 60 degree high yesterday. Temps were close to 60 between noon and 3:00 pm in the region. Temps at 5pm had cooled to 50 degrees at airport location. 5 degrees difference regarding?
@@rodhillweather Okay, never mind. I went back and looked at the 3 day history on NOAA for Corvallis. There must have been a glitch because the 15 minute updates stalled between 9:15 AM and 4 PM, thus no 60 degree reporting. My apologies for the confusion. It was really nice out there! 💚
Prawns and stuffing no turkey lol to warm this year .
Sounds good!
57 Tacoma
Strongest winds hit my part of Tacoma after 4am till about 5.30
I made it threw the wind with no power outage
Very rainy and blustery yesterday here in South Salem. Today, there were some beautiful sun breaks! Thank you Rod for keeping us updated and helping us prepare for Mother Nature and all she has in store for us!
Very little wind at my house last night, and a few gusts this morning that rang the chimes. Always interesting how different the weather can be from area to area. Thank you for your forecasts. Merry Christmas Rod!
Merry Christmas to you. Yes, our micro climates with certain areas getting certain wind directions and not others is crazy!
No getting soaked walking the dog today. Other than sweating through my winter coat.
Thank you Rod, for your hard work!
Balmy in North Bend Oregon. ❤
Here in Tillamook we have been Getting hammered with wind some wind up 60 at least
Also, more than 2.00" of rain reported for you.
Honestly, I think nothing is going to happen. Thunderstorm warnings are useless too because they never happen here much. I'm a real weather nerd and love storms of any kind.
Greatly appreciate your videos Rod!! Thank you 😊
Beautiful day today, couldn't ask for anything better, thanks Rod!
“The National Weather Service is over blowing it with these wind warnings and advisories.” I’m such a weather geek, I laughed out loud. “Over blowing it” 😂💨
“Let’s go around the horn!” Love that you say that every time.
I love it too… 😊
LOL!
The winds have already blown my Christmas lights off my gutters and onto my roof. No surprise the winds are always crazy up the hill here in Kalama
Sorry to hear
Man this winter has been a broken so far! Mild rain, ridge. Mild ridge again, another new ridge! Why is our weather el nino like if we are in a neutral/borderline weak la nina phase? I really hope we get lowland snow the 2nd half of winter!
Still time for a cold shift. I don't have an answer to your question.
And warmer 49 now
Winds are south her now at 5.14
The strongest winds hit Tacoma between 4 am and 5.45 am at my house about 45 mph
We're had .81 inches of rain so far in Tacoma
I got soaked walking my dog
I had the same experience!
Luckily I have waterproof pants, coat, hat, shoes, etc. Byproduct from previously living in a temperate rainforest. Dogs on the other hand got towelled off after our jaunt.
My coat did I didn't I was wearing layers
Same!
Thanks Rod!
Had big rain up until 1:30, no wind in Willamina 3 mph so far.
Savings on our electricity with this mild weather
In Tacoma
I have to look back at his winter forecast, but we're looking at little to no snow for Portland, correct?
Basically a 60% chance of one or two decent snow events. I don't see ice this year for the valley, just snow if we get a winter event.
@rodhillweather after last January I'm ok with that
So far it will come
In the last week it sure did change fast what we thought was going to happen the last 2 weeks of the year wet wet wet
What about HooDoo
46" base and located in the Winter Storm Warning for the Cascades, so more to come!
Think s are changing!!!!!
Dry day today in Willamina. Keep the snow up there 🏔
Rod hill you control the wether make it snow
LOL
Fair enough! ❤ I can live with the rain. 😊 Thanks for the forecast.
Overnight our wind picked up in Vader wa and lost power at 4:45am
Thank you for the report, inland winds generally south gusts to 35 mph early this morning.
Be aware of allergies instigated with rainy season and bringing out mold which can travel 200 miles.. also bringing live trees in house when pine is highly toxic.. many get ill at this time but it is preventable with zyrtec etc airing out house only keep tree a week is recomended..
Thank you
Im so jealous of that snow 🌬🌨❄☃️
Thanks Rod!
My Friend has A boad at narrows marina I don't think he has to worry about high times hopefully
We have had .29 inches of rain so far in Tacoma
Thank you
Finally We Are Getting Good Moisture This Dry December!
Yes!
