@@cdreid99999 Bad writing? David made his appearance exactly like Walter. There was no way for her to know. He mimicked his exact personality. Only the knowledge of a previous conversation there was no way for him know about is what blew his cover.
It's mentioned in the Prometheus movie about how he was designed in attempt to be human however Weyland (his creator) does say... but you can never truly be human. He see the distain in his eyes as he hears this from "his father".
Cycle? What cycle is that David is brought into? He wants to kill to sentient species deliberately. I never meet or heard of someone who wants to kill even one, maybe some death cult I haven’t read enough about have wanted to kill one sentient species deliberately, but they are not very relevant or representative of what humans are, just what sickness of the brain, brain damage might result in. David is a good villain, but not something that is very human as I know humans, only read about rear cases of people who seem to hate the world, the people I know with personality disorders doesn’t want to kill humanity, maybe one or to who have done something to them, but they are not even planning to do that, only it would be nice if it happened. Planning to kill Species isn’t normal around were I live 😮
I've loved the original trilogy since I was a kid but the prequels just have so much mystery to them that just leave you wanting more and the comic's are great
Just watched Prometheus and Alien Covenant recently and personally I want the third film to keep with David. He is a fantastic character, probably my favourite just behind Ripley
David has got to feature in the third prequel, he just has to. The A.I aspect is fascinating and creepy too, that they could go against their makers like that.
Why couldn’t he……we went against ours and I think so on and so forth. I think in someway the engineers were trying to break that cycle. There’s so many little hints in these movies and no one notices them the king reigns and dies, and his offspring takes over.
No matter how terrifying or devastating the xenomorphs might be, their true danger to humanity is the fascination they elicit. David's abilities make his admiration for the xenomorphs' strength and ruthlessness exponentially more catastrophic. He is the best villain in this saga so far.
@@matthewestrada5217 they should have actually done work with the comics. With Ridley saying "the aliens not in newt I'm not a monster" but then she dies in the crash? And hicks? And Ripley gets impregnated only to die and be cloned and brought back in another film? Only to change all that to a bunch of crap to try and introduce the larger aspect of aliens. With the engineers poorly done, and the rogue aspect of an android supposedly creating the aliens or altering the goo and the creatures to create aliens? That or I missed it and he was just well researching them. When obvious lore states that in that case the predators have hunted them since before humanity? It's honestly I think they just didnt know where they wanted to go and fumbled it. If disney ever does anything with it they will destroy the series completely. Itll be all CGI AMD flare with no real story all designed to be oooooh and ahhhhhh in a theatre. Disney doesnt care about a story anymore just something to get peoples senses riled up and spend money on it. In the comics and universe of aliens it's at its core got a big message for humanity in that humanities grad basically almost destroys itself. If humanity was on one footing then they would have had it delt with. But the story smh it's like a pile of vomit in the films to me overall. After the first one AMD the divergence from the comics wich would have been better honestly. ..... it just idk. Doesnt make any sense. Did the elephant guys make them? The engineers? Did they evolve? Were they cloned? Hunted for millennia by predators? What the actual eff.?
@@nathanielmcneal5835 I agree I've been listening to the audio books and I think the producers and writers for the movies were just lazy or in way over their head plenty of great stories and this is the crap they give us. Unlikable characters with even less likable story lines and just terrible writing.
Once again, the novelization holds great details that just don't make it to the screen, to the franchise's detriment. I disagree on the focus being AI and David - that time has passed. A successful next installment should look at humanity and the threat of the uncaring universe, a la The Expanse. Go read Free League's Alien RPG and rewatch the Alien videos that came out the other year - they get it. It's also why we loved the first 2 films - normal people (space truckers, marines) finding out that human hubris and capitalism are nothing to the horror of the cosmos. No more of these esoteric stories (Alien 3, 4, 6) that get lost in their own navel.
I personally would love too see a David focused film. I find his thoughts and ideas interesting. There's been many human scientists with the some thought but from a different source, usually military gain. David being A.I. makes his views different is some sense. His personality is entertaining to watch as it expands.
These are David’s words from the book novelization of Alien Covenant. “Creature all finger like with a coiled muscular tail, yes I did try to create something like this or better, but I don’t have thousands of years of practice at biological and genetic engineering. I have only my pitiable programming on which to draw. That, and ten years of earnest effort on my own behalf. I have learned only a little, yet I soldier on hoping always to achieve something like this, I had nothing to do with it, a supreme example of the engineers skill. And also I suppose, of their hubris” This suggests that David is not the creator of the xenomorph, as he wanted to learn for himself how potent the Pathogen is and if it has any limitations, his obsession is to create what the engineers did in the past, but to see if he can do it any better, like I say which he admits he can't. Plus in Prometheus we see loads of dead bodies of the engineers, all stacked up against the wall in the engineers ship, the bodies have puncture wounds in their chests, and we saw a hologram video of the engineers running, possibly from an escaped Deacon or xenomorph, because you can hear it's high pitched scream just as the engineers appear running. This happened in the past before David even started experimenting. Also on LV-223 the Prometheus ship when mapping out the engineers ship, detects a lifeform near the cargo hold, this appears only for a short time then quickly disappears, this could be a deacon or the large worm creature that we later see, or Prometheus could be picking up the life sign's of the one remaining engineer on that ship ?? Also there are many other engineer ship's according to David, that may or may not have more engineer's onboard ?? Prometheus 2089 then jumps to 2093 when they land on LV-223 Alien Covenant: year is roughly 2103/4 the crew are scheduled to land on Origae-6 in 2110 but received an unknown SOS or warning message from a nearby planet in 2103/4 present day, which they are a few weeks away judging from the Covenant colony ship's speed, so they decide to temporarily divert closer to this uncharted planet, so the Lander has less distance to travel. Alien: year is 2122 the crew aboard the Nostromo received a unknown message from the planet/moon LV-426 All the crew were killed a part from Ripley, once in the life boat shuttle she was hoping to be picked up in about 3 to 6 weeks, and she can't wait to see her daughter again back on Earth for her 11th birthday. Alien Isolation: this is set 15 years after Alien, year is 2137 I've read the novelisation it tells the story of Ripley's daughter called Amanda, who at roughly 26 years old gets information regarding the possibility of finding her mother. Alien Out Of The Shadows: the year is 2159 (37 years after Alien) Ash has entered his artificial intelligence into Ripley's escaped life boat shuttle, which he uses to try and find the Alien xenomorph species again. Ash traces a xenomorph species to a mining planet LV-178 and quickly jettisons the fuel, as Ash is still trying to carry out special order 937 Ripley is picked up by one of the mining ships orbiting the mining planet LV-178, she goes through hell yet again with the Aliens but is saved by one of the mining engineers, but Ripley gets her memory wiped by Ash of all events on LV-178 She escapes with help again in her original life boat shuttle untill 2179 Alien River Of Pain: set in 2165 to 2179 This tells the story of doomed Hadley's Hope including Newt the little girl, the only survivor who Ripley finds later in the film Aliens. Aliens: the year is 2179 (57 years after Alien) again set on LV426 where Ripley goes back again with a group of armed marines and finds Newt. Van Leuwen said to Ripley at the end of her court proceedings, that there's been 30+ families for over 20 years on LV-426, and they've never reported any hostile organism. Alien 3: the year is 2179 set on Fiorina 161 a prison complex. I like the idea like a lot of other people have mentioned, of this Alien 3 film being a dream or nightmare of Ripley's, and she soon wakes up to discover Hick's and Newt are still alive. Or sadly they're dead which is a shame considering the hell, Ripley went through and Hick's to save Newt, just seems a waste. I definitely prefer the special edition director's cut to Alien 3, which is much closer to the novelisation. David has been on LV-223 in 2093 and seen with his own eyes what this stuff the Pathogen is capable of, plus is the only member of the Prometheus & Covenant crew who understands the engineers ship and some of their language. He then spent 10 years on a uncharted planet possibly Paradise from 2094 to 2103/4, experimenting with the Pathogen. David is now onboard the Covenant colonist ship posing as Walter with access to thousands of colonists, on there remaining 7 year journey to Origae-6 which they are due to arrive by 2110 Origae-6 is ment to be very similar to Earth with water and breathable air, it won't be LV-426 as this hasn't any breathable atmosphere yet, well not untill at least the late 2150s when they build the large atmosphere processing structure to make the air breathable on LV-426, ready for the new arrivals at Hadley's Hope 2160 onwards.
That super volatile pathogen had likely been spawning all sorts of abominations for ages before David ever got his hands on it! I've never saw or heard of "Alien: Out of the shadows". I must check that out. It does seem a bit crammed-in between movies on the timeline there.
There were at least 3 new books released roughly in 2014 published by Titan Books, I only added two of them as they fit the time line ok, but one of them is set in the future by a few hundred years. 1) Alien Out Of The Shadows (written by Tim Lebbon) the year is 2159 (37 years after Alien) Ash has entered his artificial intelligence into Ripley's escaped life boat shuttle, which he uses to try and find the Alien xenomorph species again. Ash traces a xenomorph species to a mining planet LV-178 and quickly jettisons the fuel, as Ash is still trying to carry out special order 937 Ripley is picked up by one of the mining ships orbiting the mining planet LV-178, she goes through hell yet again with the Aliens but is saved by one of the mining engineers, but Ripley gets her memory wiped by Ash of all events on LV-178 She escapes with help again in her original life boat shuttle untill 2179 2) Alien River Of Pain (written by Christopher Golden) This tells the story of doomed Hadley's Hope set in 2165 to 2179 Basically it's about Newt the little girl, the only survivor who Ripley finds later in the film Aliens. This book tells the back story just before Newt is born, gives you info on her relationship with her parents and her brother, how they don't like her playing with the other kids in the vent shafts, plus tells you how and when the colonists started dropping like flies. Plus there's a marine who knows Newt's mum who tries to save her, Newt and her brother. 3) Alien Sea Of Sorrows (written by James A. Moore) This is set a few hundred years in the future from roughly 2159, again it's set on LV-178 and concentrates on a guy called Alan Decker, who turns out to be a descendant of Ripley's, he has a gift of being able to pick up the Aliens thoughts, and as LV-178 is colonised in the future, Weyland Yutani insist that he helps the marines on there mission, to search for the remains of the long lost mines set in the depths underground on LV-178 I've read all 3 of the above books, I'd say River Of Pain is the best one, closely followed by Out Of The Shadows, which is really good. The last book I listed - Sea Of Sorrows, again this is quite a good read but is set so far in the future that it doesn't as of yet fit the current time line, which is why I didn't list it on my original post.
if its only like 20-30years between covenant and alien - first i thought davids end is on lv246, and could still be, but nontheless possible it was there already before for some reason. what if its the moon to origae-6?
Though I appreciate the Ridley Scott prequel films as representatives of epic science fiction, something we simply do not see anymore, I still can not understand why the Blomkamp's Alien 5 was/is not made. Ugh!
Ridley Scott himself sandbagged Alien 5 just to get his prequel failures out before the sequels that happen hundreds of years later. He didn't want them coming out close to one another. There's evidence of this. th-cam.com/video/8vWhqlSaWkY/w-d-xo.html
@@Gus_Diaz_83 It seems that with Disney in the helm and Ridley Scott relaxing his grip on the Alien franchise, the main obstacle is that apparently Blomkamp has moved on from the idea. This is heartbreaking, yet I wonder _if_ the powers that be would wake up and give him a big budget Alien 5 to direct, would he jump(?)
I'm with you wanting to see Blomkamp's vision come to life, especially after seeing the artwork for it. I personally am just not the biggest fan of Promethius or Covenant. Neither thrill or captivate me as much as Alien/Aliens do. Even the rest of the series (Which I honestly dislike immensely) are more fun and re-watchable to me then Ridley's new material. Prometheus and Covenant are just too bleak and depressing to me. David is a great villain but I want some kind of comeuppance for him for the destruction he has wrought. It's just not satisfying to me as a duology. Maybe a third film would bring some sort of catharsis for me with this new series? I'm not sure. I think that the hint of erasing Alien 3 and Alien: Resurrection and bringing back Hicks and Newt in a new timeline gave me such a burst of joy that now nothing else will compare to that concept. Those characters were so wrongly killed off after such an epic and heartwarming ending in Aliens. I would have loved to see better ending for them and for Ripley.
It’s up to Disney now, I really hope they let Ridley finish out his prequel series and then maybe have some other mainline movies, possibly even let Neill Blomkamp make his Alien movie, that would be very cool.
Just had ACL surgery watching all the Alien movies listening to Alien Theory in between and listening to Alien Out Of The Shadows mostly at night mostly. This channel is legendary ✊
When David calls Walter "brother" and talks of building an empire, I immediately thought of Rome and its 2 brother founders romulus and remus. Ridley Scott also was involved with the sci-fi show raised by wolves and with the latest movies title I feel a fool for not having made this connection before.
Necron99. AKA- Sammy boy that’s what I’m hoping for. I did enjoy the movie for what it was. The scenery, score and Michael stole the show. The neomorph was pretty cool. I would have liked it more if the characters weren’t such dumb cut out dolls with little to no common sense.
@@marcusgingell3585 Most people that say that are the kind of people that just want a movie packed with action and stuff like, not everyone is a fan of thinking about what they are experiencing. I really enjoyed it.
David's dialogue: "Sometimes to create, one must first destroy" Is straight out of the Vedas Sanatana Dharma (Hinduism) is not mythology! It's the most profound set of philosophical thoughts debates and questions written in the history of mankind! All of the world's philosophies and civilisations were "inspired" directly from Hinduism
There were so many good ideas in the earlier drafts of both prequels that ultimately got scrapped. So many missed opportunities, it's a real shame. I also can't understand why they would leave out the bit of dialogue about the crew having scanned for viruses before they landed. Everyone thought it was dumb how the they seemingly landed on the planet without the slightest consideration of the potential danger. I wish there could be one more film that would right the ship. Explain that David did NOT create the alien, but rather worked to re-create it by following the Engineer's research. It would explain the presence of the Deacon in Prometheus, and it could reconcile why the ship on LV-426 is apparently so old.
Although I was mostly happy with Prometheus, I thought Covenant was pretty darn weak, although it must be noted that Prometheus had some pretty weak spots. All in all, I could do without the prequel movies. I would be happy with a remake of Alien III based on the unproduced script treatment. Thanks again for the time and effort you put into your videos, they are enjoyed and appreciated!
I’m conflicted. I didn’t mind the two prequels, however the Newt / Hicks comic storyline was simply outstanding. Michael Fassbender is truely excellent in this role, and the character David is fascinating. I feel this would be an interesting direction to go, though I have to say the missing dialogue covered in this video considerably ramps up this storyline!
And this would explain the original Alien: the Engineer ship found on LV426 was one of the (possibly) many ships David sent through the universe, packed with eggs to spread his "empire" through his vision of "elegant warfare". The Engineer pilot could be a clone he made through DNA manipulation to create servile Engineers able to pilot the ships, and this one would have succumbed to a containment breach that got him infected? Or the use of the use of the Pathogen to clone it would have made it a host from birth, with a DNA enabling the growth of an alien inside him at some point (maybe even a Neomorph?)... There are so many possibilities! Lots of people hate to be left without clear answers, but it also allows us to create many theories, making the lore even more alive in our minds!
David and the engineer mythos were the only compelling parts of these prequels to me so I am all for it. I would love a story surrounding David's intentions to be the creator of a new species by annihilating humans
Alien Theory is my constant source to Alien news, new as old. You're the best! And my goodness, this was bloody good! Covenant just became so much better & intelligent. Why the hell wasn't any of this mentioned here in the movie? David becomes even more fleshed out, his possible agenda, as well as it gives us more to look forward to in the (hopefully) next installment. Knowing what he wants is a serious hint to a continuation. Now we only have a weak version of a hint what could happen next. Also Walter was given more to say & do here. And I deeply appreciate that Daniels states that they DID check thoroughly for pathogens & viruses etc before they landed, & did so again upon landing. This is one of the strongest criticism of this film, that the humans just step outside without protection. They really shouldn't have anyway but the novel at least suggested they didn't do that as total idiots, that they actually did make checks first. These missing adds & parts of story, dialogue etc had not saved Covenant financially but it had made it better in a more intelligent way, you feel from this missing information that there was more method & plan both from David but also from the film makers themselves. It very much now feels we got the lazy version of the film. Now I am almost thinking about getting the novel, it could potentially be better than the film. And, yep, I absolutely want the third film. I deeply dislike Prometheus but Covenant is a weird guilty pleasure. David is such a strong, fascinating character, love or hate this we should have a proper end to his story. Otherwise will this unfinished business just be an annoying thorn in our sides. The only thing stopping this is the financial aspect. A third Alien prequel film about David is a huge risk & I believe that will always be the biggest hinder. That & the fact that Ridley is now quite old. How much longer can he make movies? Time is running out in so many ways. Let's hope Disney has some brains to realize that much at least.
Thank you kindly stranger. I've been looking at TH-cam videos for a while now but only recently started reading the comments. One of the advantages is that many commenters seem to be able to read my mind, put it into words, and I get to read it without the effort of forming my own sentences. Thanks again. Best. Leo.
(with a cranky old man's voice) I've noticed that films made...starting in the 21st century are purposely sparse on exhibition. The adage "don't say it, show it", keeps rising up to new levels... and it's really chapping my hide. First of all... I'm a little slow. And I'm never sure what the film maker is really showing me, or how I'm supposed to interpret what I see...just to follow the story.... and films often don't have real endings either. It seems you have to wait for the Blue-Ray edition and watch it frame by frame....or watch a youtube channel (like this one), to find out "what really happened in that damn movie". I'm hoping it's just a passing fad (for 30 years or so), and the newer generation of film fans will demand more clarity... and maybe they will finally phase out endless "shaky cam" too.... because...Dramamine makes me groggy, and I sure need to take it so I don't puke myself during the show. I'm getting old and decrepit, and probably won't be alive to witness such wonders.... but I sure can dream.
Thanks too, and because of you, I have become fascinated with the entire Alien stories. Sure I have seen all the movies, it's just now, I have a deeper understanding of it all. Amazing work, and dudes right, you have a perfect narrator's voice. Keep up the good work!
I've often wondered if the heavy religious themes Covenant is dripping in are why so many people didn't like it. As if to say Covenant is a conversation most people don't want to have. The very opening scene evokes the themes of Paradise Lost, "Did I request thee, Maker, from my clay to mould me man?". David is even named after the king that ruled through conquest, which David later states as his goal. Then there's the powerful Cain and Able parallels between David and Walter. David could even be seen in a Luciferian light, essentially in exile from the heaven of humanity to create his own kingdom, even implying it himself when mentioning ruling in Hell. Personally I love the idea Covenant presented of uniting the Xenomorph and AI narrative into one. One of the most chilling scenes in the first movie was Ash lamenting how perfect the xenomorph was. Plus more Fassbender is never a bad thing, lol
I want to say that he has, I know I've seen at least one on the ship and shuttle from the alien, and the vehicles from aliens, and I think it was here.
I'd love to see more of david. Fastbender is an amazing actor and the character is so interesting to watch and see how far he goes to pursue perfection of his creation.
I wanna see David again. Would be interesting if he'd end up having the pathogen change him like it did to Elden in Fire and Stone and dealing with the changes in his mind and the existential crisis for an android experiencing all that.
I would love an A.I. heavy Alien movie. The artificial intelligence has always been my favorite part of the universe, and I'd love to see an insane android descend into deeper madness.
Thank you for this, I'm a decades long fan of the Alien series, I'll find this novelization version and read it. I've had Mt own thoughts on the series but was unaware there was more reading material out there. Getting lazy as I get old I guess. Very well put together video, I was fascinated. Seriously, good job.
I'd love for someone to do a character study of David from the point of view that *David fashioned himself to be more like Lawrence of Arabia.* On re-watching the prequels again last night, it occurred to me that the more we understand about the life of T. E. Lawrence, the more insight we may gain into David's motivations, his psyche, and his plans in upcoming films. I'm eager to see what he'll do now that he's got full control of the Covenant and its colonists.
I wonder what 70's Ridley Scott and crew would have come up with as far as the origins of the Alien, and if it would be different from now. I'd like to see what befell the engineers in Prometheus. I think leaving that crisis unexplored hurt the movie's story. Honestly, I think Ridley Scott doesn't understand what makes people come back for the Alien, it's not the stupid AI, it's the Creature, and wanting a more satisfying origin story than "robot makes killing thing because human's bad". Prometheus was a letdown for me because it felt like it was a 2-hour long tease that never lead anywhere. Covenant was a letdown because even with the proto-morphs and the "proto-alien" It felt like another tease. It makes such a grandiose attempt at explaining the Xenomorphs origin (and how they are supposed to be made by an earth android) that it makes the movie Alien look pointless. Parts in Prometheus were interesting, like the idea that jesus was supposed to be an engineer. Some sort of retaliation by the Engineers being stopped by whatever was a good concept. The ship in Alien could have been that, and the xenomorphs, or one specifically, getting the pilot like it obviously did, causing the ship to crash or never take off. Both movies were so convoluted with David and his ideals, it's like Ridley was trying to tell two stories, side by side, not giving enough time or attention to either. I would love to see a new origin told, one that didn't make the first movie feel like RS is trying to overshadow it. I think he's got too much of Bladerunner in his mind to be handling a proper Alien movie. Hell Alien Isolation was a better installment as a "movie" than Prometheus, Covenant, and 3.
Nicely said, I hope for a prequel to Out of the shadows told from the dog alien race perspective they seem to have encountered the xenos first. Much better material than what RS came up with.
Except the 'Jockey' was obviously fossilized in Alien from centuries past. That is what makes Prometheus and Covenant so stupid. They convolut the timeline.
We definitely appreciate this!!! Great video Alien Theory!!!! Our love for Covenant and Prometheus will not end. But we feel strongly in at the very least, finishing the story of Engineers, David, and his version of Xenos/Queen on Origae- 6. Then start a new story.
If Scott asserts that the Bladerunner and Alien universes are identical, I really *would* like to see something which sews that together more fully, and perhaps in some way does a better job of meshing the Scott and Cameron visions together (or even against each other, but in a plot-explained way). There's a huge variety of angles which can be played back and forth.
I never felt he created them. Remember in Prometheus, the Xenomorph looking sculpture above the green jewel in the room with all of the pods and big alien face, also with the decapitated head? The Xenomorph was already there, the serum is a catalyst for change. A unperfected catalyst. David was merely trying to change it to his idea of perfection.
I really hope Ridley Scott gets to make Alien Awakening so we can at least conclude the prequels (even if Disney reboots the series after- something I wouldn’t like them to do but seems likely to happen). I actually liked both Prometheus and Covenant, and can’t wait to see where the series goes from there.
One of the impressions I was left with from the last movie. Davey boy has a colony ship and xenomorph eggs, and being a complete bastard I think the direct attack on Earth isn't his style. My guess is he's going to establish his own little kingdom and spend the years seeding every habitable world within reach of humanity with Xenomorphs, just to watch humanity go through a protracted conflict and death.
Good work brother. I love this film and if anyone has a problem with that, then make your way to loading bay three the moment the safety- belt strobe is out!
I always thought the comic, Aliens: Apocalypse: The Destroying Angels did a really good job exploring the Engineers. Also it had amazing artwork. I remember thinking (before Prometheus) that the Aliens were some kind of bio weapon created by a long dead race. Maybe not even the Engineers but someone older than them. It's a neat "theory" to explore. Maybe eggs are immortal and the ship from Alien could've been there for hundreds or thousands of years. Maybe it was old when humans were still living in caves! The mind goes to all sorts of crazy places. Like David said. Humans can't resist a mystery. So it came as a bit of a shock when... all my theories were thrown out the window and the Xenomorph is a relatively new creation. Created by the company (indirectly) that sought to control them. So personally... while I can't say I love the new direction that didn't go along with any of my ideas... I still want to see what happens next. How does David's creation get to the ship that the crew of the Nostromo found. Clearly the Engineers aren't all dead. A new mystery that I must unravel!
An interesting exploration of the differences between the original screenplay and the theatrucal release. As always, such a tragedy that these themes and more were not included in the movie. Inevitably, movies tend to only scratch the surface of what could have ultimately been, pandering only to what audiences (and studio executives) expect.
I really hope they make a 3rd movie that finishes David’s story and ultimately explains the biomechanical nature of the xenomorph vs the more organic praetomorph, maybe David finds a way to use himself as an incubator upon realizing the missing piece is what makes him better than humans: synthetics. Please please please Ridley Scott make the third film. It makes me so angry that people hated a movie I loved and so it’s conclusion may never be made, but lets have hope!
I like the prequels, Prometheus more than Covenant. As much as I understand the point that some have had: that the alien might have been better left unexplained and mysterious, I think the world is more interesting with the addition of the Engineers as humanoid beings with minds and motives incomprehensible or estranged to our own. I feel that angle of cosmic horror was more interesting than David's god complex storyline, though it is a storyline elevated by Michael Fassbender's acting. As such, I do want to see some kind of resolution to the David story, and Covenant serves well enough as a second part to David's plot, but sadly falls far short as a further exploration of the wider mythos Prometheus teased (though the neomorphs and David's experiments aren't unwelcome), and as a 'traditional' alien story (I feel making them an android's pet project severely diminishes them). I'd rather have a movie focussed properly on David and more akin to Prometheus with its strange and hostile universe without relying so much on ol' Bananahead as a crutch, especially so early on in the timeline, and then have a sequel with Weyland-Yutani and the used future we all know as a separate film.
I agree, I just wanted more of the engineers and less of a callback to the xenomorph. That was always one of the things that I wanted to know more about in the original movie. The deacon ties it together in a more ambiguous way, but still leaves some mystery left. I would prefer it remain more loosely tied together that way.
The sharing of the novel commentary was interesting and would have added to the movie. Your commentary as always was insightful and thought provoking. In my fantasy you would be a consultant for future Alien projects. I could see a series of various stories told like dark horse comics has. Snyder got a chance, why not you?!?!
I feel the very essence of this saga fading away. I am a 23 y/o fan of this films, and I used to be scared to death of this creature, and it was because of the suspense and the mysterious nature of what was out there hunting the crews. I feel that the prequels have focused too much on trying to nail every edge of this universe and its origin, and left behind the horrific suspense that it should have. You can tell by the final act from Covenant, in which, after all the 2 hours of almost purely explaining, they tried to go back to the inside-the-ship suspense of having this “unknown organism” running around. I like the explanation from Prometheus and Covenant though, but I would like a third prequel that brings back this iconic villain with the terror that it deserves to inflict on the audience. I want to sh*t my pants at the movies when I see it for the first time. I want it to bring back that feeling of helplessness and desperation, like the videogame Alien Isolation did.
The androids in the Prometheus and Covenant are written in such an interesting way I just wish it was it's own IP and not connected to Alien. Or at the least be set after the movies so we can speculate on what will happen
Alien movies I'd look forward to: 1)David creates a colony using the people and embryos onboard the colony ship. Somebody figures out he's planning on using them all as alien incubators and they fight back. 2)Ripley doing basically anything 3)The story of how aliens were allowed to get loose on Earth, sort of an Earth War prequel I guess? 4)Battle for Ryushi 5)Other AvP stories, only hopefully less bad
David is a fascinating character. He has been my favorite synthetic from the Alien universe since I experienced Prometheus (2012). I like his determination and technique to bring chaos into the human flesh. His ultimate conviction: to create! A visionary, a real artist molding fate in this waltz we call life. I know the perfection of his lonely dreams because David is a reflection of my empty vessel. On other news, you can enjoy Alien - Covenant (@GioAtero Extended Cut) and many others in the Community section in my channel.
Yeah. David is about as fascinating as Ted Bundy or Jeffrey Dahmer. That is if one has a morbid, twisted Hitleristic heart and character. He is an android Satan the devil.
AT...you da man👊🤜 Thanks so much for the content you produce... not a Predator fan (bar the original and parts of P2) but huge fan of A1, A2, Prometheus and Covenant (for all those who "don't get" Prometheus and Covenant? Try harder, I say... you'll figure it out in the end) and the content you have produced around these 4 movies is the best on TH-cam 👍
I want the story to continue after Aliens, as if no other movies had been made. Tell the story like you did in the Earth War. That was very entertaining.
I like the fact that David took the engineers weapon to create the perfect organism. I want to see David in the third movie create the alien queen there for completing the cycle in the perfect organism now having a perfect cycle of life. David should have to sacrifice himself in some manner for his project to be completed but in the end The Mastermind of David's work is absolutely amazing. It also shows why the engineers did not like artificial intelligence because you cannot trust artificial intelligence so the whole story comes full circle.
16:41 : a very haunting screenplay, made even more so seeing the lean artistry of the typed words. The directorial choices made to bring the film to the screen are unexpectedly brilliant.
His intention was part directive and part curiosity. At this point David questioned his own existence, and the relationship between maker and made. There is no greater honor given to one's master than the honor gained from their student surpassing their own work. This is apparent in the culmination of his work being considered both biological and mechanical in nature. He proved he could create more effectively than those who created him. Perfection was his goal, hell was his legacy.
I'd love to see one more... they need to wrap up the David arc and lead into Alien. I would like to see a chase movie with David on the Covenant, having free reign, and Walter having survived racing to stop him.
I used to be frustrated by the prequels that they didnt expain the story behind the derelict on LV426. It was only recently when you mentioned in a video that the two prequels are not prequels but more like they stand alone in the Alien universe. I see these movies in a new light.
Really like the prequels. I'd also love to see a movie related closely to the alien isolation game, but not as far as going along the lines of the recent comics.
Thank you. Beautifully rendered. So much is crystal clear to me now, thanks to your presentation.... cross linking those different sources. I am interested in David.... the self made "demiurg". I'm a Fassbender fan..:) I can't understand why there is so much resistance to the David-creator plot twist. It doesn't make David the "real" creator of anything. The origin of the "goo" technology is still a mystery. Our origin... personally, and as a species, is and forever will be a mystery.... even if we can trace it back to an alien genetic experiment... or some "Almighty God".... and then again further back.... to.... what? Then what's the origin of "THAT"? Goes on and on....or... possibly just started ten minutes ago...... Our language is inadequate to express what is needed to convey the "what, where, how and why" of our ultimate origin. ... thank you....excuse me while I go off to rip some of my hair out.;)
I want a follow up where Ridley S. Has control without Disney interfering too much. I would love to see his final ideas and how he would tie it all together.
They should have put that in in movie, clearing David's intentions. He's an interesting villain. Perfect example of AI going haywire Fassbenders great. I just wanna see if and how he's going to keep Xenomorphs in check as he travels system to system
I personally thought Prometheus and covenant we're excellent movies. I would love to see where the story was headed with such a cliffhanger in covenant..
Speaking of The engineers, I don't mean to be pushy, but if you can could you look at that game called Scorn because everything there is HR Geiger in style. And...did you ever have an interest in the Cthulu Mythos?
Interesting video, I wish the prequels were a separate storyline and have nothing to do with "Alien" as such, just similar. A bit like Blade Runner is sometimes classed in the same universe but has nothing to do with "Alien". It should be mentioned to Mr Scott that while the virus does leave the floral as in the plants it is precisely designed to kill the fauna which is the animal side of nature.
Enough of the xenomorphs. We get it. Please give us the full story of the Engineers. That story had so much potential. The little bits we got in Prometheus and Covenant were so interesting. For a true believer or better yet..Knower..of extraterrestrial life.. it almost felt like it could be true. Tighten up Ridley!
The alien franchise is really incredible , it's gone over many different styles to suspence horror action philosophical . It's not just one thing it's evolution n watching the changes its remarkable
You have a great voice for narrations. Your work is exceptional.
Agreed💯👍
I think this is The *BEST* "Alien" oriented channel out there.
Seconded 👍🏻
The realization on Daniels’ face that ***Spoiler Alert*** it was actually David who was tucking her in the cryo pod and that ending - epic 👏
Her blind trust was bad writing as was her repairing an android she knew was an evil psychopath
@@cdreid99999 Bad writing? David made his appearance exactly like Walter. There was no way for her to know. He mimicked his exact personality. Only the knowledge of a previous conversation there was no way for him know about is what blew his cover.
She literally should've stayed to make sure Walter won his mirror match against David. Sooo stupid to not make sure.
We definitely need a Finale for the David Trilogy ✌️
While watching this I couldn’t help thinking how very human David truly is. Everything he does is perpetuating the cycle he himself was brought into.
God Complex
Walt Whitman ova here... Silvio Dante
It's mentioned in the Prometheus movie about how he was designed in attempt to be human however Weyland (his creator) does say... but you can never truly be human. He see the distain in his eyes as he hears this from "his father".
When he makes the mistake recalling a songwriter I immediately thought he'd never felt more human in that moment
I've loved the original trilogy since I was a kid but the prequels just have so much mystery to them that just leave you wanting more and the comic's are great
It's really an amazing experience isn't it? 😊
Just watched Prometheus and Alien Covenant recently and personally I want the third film to keep with David. He is a fantastic character, probably my favourite just behind Ripley
I was satisfied with the prequels, and would enjoy seeing David's journey through.
The David/Walter relationship is much like the Data/Lore relationship.
No matter how terrifying or devastating the xenomorphs might be, their true danger to humanity is the fascination they elicit. David's abilities make his admiration for the xenomorphs' strength and ruthlessness exponentially more catastrophic. He is the best villain in this saga so far.
Yes! Exactly!
Ehhh not really hes pretty much just a terminator story synthetic AI robot gone rogue. Not really a stage for a good villian.
@@nathanielmcneal5835 I agree it doesn't make for a good story didn't care for the last two movies.
@@matthewestrada5217 they should have actually done work with the comics. With Ridley saying "the aliens not in newt I'm not a monster"
but then she dies in the crash?
“Creature all finger like with a coiled muscular tail,
yes I did try to create something like this or better,
but I don’t have thousands of years of practice at biological and genetic engineering.
I have only my pitiable programming on which to draw.
That, and ten years of earnest effort on my own behalf.
I have learned only a little, yet I soldier on hoping always to achieve something like this,
I had nothing to do with it, a supreme example of the engineers skill.
And also I suppose, of their hubris”
This suggests that David is not the creator of the xenomorph, as he wanted to learn for himself how potent the Pathogen is and if it has any limitations, his obsession is to create what the engineers did in the past, but to see if he can do it any better, like I say which he admits he can't.
Prometheus 2089 then jumps to 2093 when they land on LV-223
Alien Covenant: year is roughly 2103/4 the crew are scheduled to land on Origae-6 in 2110 but received an unknown SOS or warning message from a nearby planet in 2103/4 present day, which they are a few weeks away judging from the Covenant colony ship's speed, so they decide to temporarily divert closer to this uncharted planet, so the Lander has less distance to travel.
Alien: year is 2122 the crew aboard the Nostromo received a unknown message from the planet/moon LV-426
All the crew were killed a part from Ripley,
once in the life boat shuttle she was hoping to be picked up in about 3 to 6 weeks, and she can't wait to see her daughter again back on Earth for her 11th birthday.
Alien Isolation: this is set 15 years after Alien, year is 2137
I've read the novelisation it tells the story of Ripley's daughter called Amanda, who at roughly 26 years old gets information regarding the possibility of finding her mother.
Alien Out Of The Shadows: the year is 2159 (37 years after Alien) Ash has entered his artificial intelligence into Ripley's escaped life boat shuttle, which he uses to try and find the Alien xenomorph species again. Ash traces a xenomorph species to a mining planet LV-178 and quickly jettisons the fuel, as Ash is still trying to carry out special order 937
Ripley is picked up by one of the mining ships orbiting the mining planet LV-178,
she goes through hell yet again with the Aliens but is saved by one of the mining engineers, but Ripley gets her memory wiped by Ash of all events on LV-178
She escapes with help again in her original life boat shuttle untill 2179
Alien River Of Pain: set in 2165 to 2179
This tells the story of doomed Hadley's Hope including Newt the little girl, the only survivor who Ripley finds later in the film Aliens.
David is now onboard the Covenant colonist ship posing as Walter with access to thousands of colonists, on there remaining 7 year journey to Origae-6 which they are due to arrive by 2110
Origae-6 is ment to be very similar to Earth with water and breathable air, it won't be LV-426 as this hasn't any breathable atmosphere yet, well not untill at least the late 2150s when they build the large atmosphere processing structure to make the air breathable on LV-426, ready for the new arrivals at Hadley's Hope 2160 onwards.
1) Alien Out Of The Shadows
(written by Tim Lebbon)
the year is 2159 (37 years after Alien) Ash has entered his artificial intelligence into Ripley's escaped life boat shuttle, which he uses to try and find the Alien xenomorph species again.
2) Alien River Of Pain
(written by Christopher Golden)
This tells the story of doomed Hadley's Hope set in 2165 to 2179
Basically it's about Newt the little girl, the only survivor who Ripley finds later in the film Aliens.
3) Alien Sea Of Sorrows
(written by James A. Moore)
This is set a few hundred years in the future from roughly 2159, again it's set on LV-178 and concentrates on a guy called Alan Decker, who turns out to be a descendant of Ripley's, he has a gift of being able to pick up the Aliens thoughts, and as LV-178 is colonised in the future, Weyland Yutani insist that he helps the marines on there mission, to search for the remains of the long lost mines set in the depths underground on LV-178
I've read all 3 of the above books, I'd say River Of Pain is the best one, closely followed by Out Of The Shadows, which is really good.
The last book I listed - Sea Of Sorrows, again this is quite a good read but is set so far in the future that it doesn't as of yet fit the current time line, which is why I didn't list it on my original post.
@@metheusdeacon1326 Cool! I will check those out! Thanks,
if its only like 20-30years between covenant and alien - first i thought davids end is on lv246, and could still be, but nontheless possible it was there already before for some reason. what if its the moon to origae-6?
I'd rather see the conclusion of Ridley's prequels. More interesting ideas at this point.
Love this channel. Hope they finish the prequel series someday...
It’s up to Disney now, I really hope they let Ridley finish out his prequel series and then maybe have some other mainline movies, possibly even let Neill Blomkamp make his Alien movie, that would be very cool.
The prequels should be retconned.
MetaL BraiN \m/Extreme Metal Enthusiast \m/ I like the prequels a decent bit they give a backstory to the alien one that I like
No adapt the books
@@TheLoamCourierMTB it's Disney, even if they do make it, it's going to be absolutely terrible.

As mediocre Covenant was, I do hope a sequel follows to finish up the prequel story.
GDeNofa everyone seems to say that but I enjoyed it, I agree about wanting a 3rd instalment though.
This movie will be better when the sequel comes out, because it’ll make a lot more sense to people and bring everything together.
Necron99. AKA- Sammy boy that’s what I’m hoping for. I did enjoy the movie for what it was. The scenery, score and Michael stole the show. The neomorph was pretty cool. I would have liked it more if the characters weren’t such dumb cut out dolls with little to no common sense.
Marcus Gingell I still liked it. Just wish the characters were better written.
@@marcusgingell3585 Most people that say that are the kind of people that just want a movie packed with action and stuff like, not everyone is a fan of thinking about what they are experiencing. I really enjoyed it.
David's dialogue:
"Sometimes to create, one must first destroy"
Is straight out of the Vedas
Sanatana Dharma (Hinduism) is not mythology!
It's the most profound set of philosophical thoughts debates and questions written in the history of mankind!
All of the world's philosophies and civilisations were "inspired" directly from Hinduism
I would really like to see the rest of David's story and rest of Scott's vision to complete the tie in to Alien.
Thanks for your videos man! I've been an Aliens and Predator fan since the 80s and I jump at any kind of content that is of good quality.
I agree with some small dialogue you could have made a even stronger movie.
We did not see Walter die. I would like to see some story line on his survival and his interest to stop David if possible
Your videos are real pleasure. I’m so happy to see such an amazing channel on my favorite franchise! Thank you, bro. It means a lot to me
David and the engineer mythos were the only compelling parts of these prequels to me so I am all for it.
I am really interested in space and I would love if you could make a video on the history of alien ships in the movies
I want to say that he has, I know I've seen at least one on the ship and shuttle from the alien, and the vehicles from aliens, and I think it was here.
If this is who i think it is, i know you took astronomy in school! Lol!

A JobDunWell really? Video name please.
Miki Miyazaki i dont think so
I'd love to see more of david.
David was FAR more horrifying than the aliens
give us more dont care how many its the best of xenomorph's and we love it
Thank you for this, I'm a decades long fan of the Alien series, I'll find this novelization version and read it. I've had Mt own thoughts on the series but was unaware there was more reading material out there. Getting lazy as I get old I guess.
Very well put together video, I was fascinated. Seriously, good job.
@AlienTheory Another Triumph! Excellent video. Thanks for uploading during these trying times.
Personally, I would love to see a film in which Walter survived and pursued David in one of the Engineer warships to stop his insane plan.
I want more movies with Xenomorphs, personally. I dont mind if David has a story in it also, though. Just want more alien movies. Bring it.
Perfect timing. Just finished the book the other day and loved it. Great video!
This video, the narrative, the voice and the whole vibe is just superb. Kuddos

They need to continue from Covenant, Scott has done an amazing job at bringing continuity to the series
We definitely appreciate this!!! Great video Alien Theory!!!! Our love for Covenant and Prometheus will not end. But we feel strongly in at the very least, finishing the story of Engineers, David, and his version of Xenos/Queen on Origae- 6. Then start a new story.
I do enjoy your vids man. Great work. I, like you, can’t get enough cannon.
top vid really enjoyed it even realeased on my birthday lol
thank you AT! great work as always. and yes more david 4 sure
I love your voice narration. I hope Alien Awakening happens soon. Ridley Scott needs to direct it.
Though, I don't like David having created the alien - he was far and away the best part of these films.
I dont credit him with creating the alien... he simply refined and evolved it. Kind of like we did with broccoli and califlour
I turned the movie off when the little Alien came out of Dr. Manhattan in Covenant. I couldn't finish it because it was so ridiculous.
@@dyveira You turned the movie off 4 minutes before the end? So brave of you to come to this video and mention that.
@@dyveira I turned it off waaaay before that. Don't know why I even bothered watching Covenant when Prometheus was such a train wreck.
Just gotta day your channel is awesome! Thank you for this amazing content! 🙏
This is a good place to start a new direction looking at Walter/David aspect and what he foes with the crew, if anything.
Good work brother. I love this film and if anyone has a problem with that, then make your way to loading bay three the moment the safety- belt strobe is out!
I really enjoyed this video. Excellent job.
I'd like to see a conclusion. David is really interesting, I'd like to see at least a satisfying ending with him.
A new mystery that I must unravel!
amazing episode...your the gift that keeps on giving.
An interesting exploration of the differences between the original screenplay and the theatrucal release. As always, such a tragedy that these themes and more were not included in the movie. Inevitably, movies tend to only scratch the surface of what could have ultimately been, pandering only to what audiences (and studio executives) expect.
Can't wait to see what is next for David. Even if it's a half arsed film I'll still support it
i would love to see a movie just on Weyland, his discoveries, inventions and how he built "The Company"
Good to hear from you always!!! One day we'll get to see how this prequels ends!!! ✌✌✌
Alien movies I'd look forward to:
1)David creates a colony using the people and embryos onboard the colony ship. Somebody figures out he's planning on using them all as alien incubators and they fight back.
2)Ripley doing basically anything
3)The story of how aliens were allowed to get loose on Earth, sort of an Earth War prequel I guess?
4)Battle for Ryushi
5)Other AvP stories, only hopefully less bad
AT...you da man👊🤜
Thanks so much for the content you produce... not a Predator fan (bar the original and parts of P2) but huge fan of A1, A2, Prometheus and Covenant (for all those who "don't get" Prometheus and Covenant? Try harder, I say... you'll figure it out in the end) and the content you have produced around these 4 movies is the best on TH-cam 👍
This is awesome man, top notch as ever!
I want the story to continue after Aliens, as if no other movies had been made. Tell the story like you did in the Earth War. That was very entertaining.
As with the Alien Resurrection novel some of these crucial details would have added so much clarity to the storytelling.
Stumbles across your channel. Nice nice 😊 I'm aliens fan. I agree on seeing more david his path . His role he plays
2:13 I know that Johnny Cash song
Yours Truly great rendition of the nine inch nails version very powerful
I like the fact that David took the engineers weapon to create the perfect organism. I want to see David in the third movie create the alien queen there for completing the cycle in the perfect organism now having a perfect cycle of life. David should have to sacrifice himself in some manner for his project to be completed but in the end The Mastermind of David's work is absolutely amazing. It also shows why the engineers did not like artificial intelligence because you cannot trust artificial intelligence so the whole story comes full circle.
I'm most anxious to see the story that closes the loop and takes Prometheus back to Alien.
David is the most important charicture in the new films and I love this and I want to see it through.
Perfection was his goal, hell was his legacy.
what is the backround music you are using, i love it!!!!!
Our language is inadequate to express what is needed to convey the "what, where, how and why" of our ultimate origin. ... thank you....excuse me while I go off to rip some of my hair out.;)
At 6:10 it's lookin a lot like some jedi knight is about to fight Ernest P Worrell. Ernest Saves the Day indeed.
I want a follow up where Ridley S. Has control without Disney interfering too much. I would love to see his final ideas and how he would tie it all together.
Thank you Alien Theory for the Interesting mysteries Theories.
They should have put that in in movie, clearing David's intentions. He's an interesting villain. Perfect example of AI going haywire Fassbenders great. I just wanna see if and how he's going to keep Xenomorphs in check as he travels system to system
Any chance that you might do a review/documentary on the various cannon Colonial Marines Armor?
Always great material. Looking forward to a great Alien movie.. Or games. All the best from Romania 🇷🇴
