    One small note - while I think it's safe to assume they will release the AMS Lite standalone in the upcoming months, now that the A1 mini and A1 have launched, it's currently only available in the combos, and I don't know if they've confirmed that it will be available standalone.

      Yeh, that's a fair point. My assumption is that they want to ensure enough to ship with combos and post-holidays we'll see it show up for sale, probably at 199.

      I bought a CR10 not long after they came out. Was my first printer. And I hated it. I think a lot of my problems were I got one of the warped bed ones (IIRC, even the glass wasn't flat!), but even aside from that I've just never been satisfied with it. It's now heavily modded, and I can OK results with it, but I'm looking at these Bambu printers because I'd like something that's pure plug and print.

    • @OldManJimmy1
      @OldManJimmy1 5 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Never had a lot of trouble out of my bed, must have got lucky and got a flat one along with a good flat glass plate. I went magnetic and a removeable flexible build plate and never had any issues with first layer after that. Did almost all mods except the extruder. Hind sight that should have been one of my first.
      If you get a Bembu you will be shocked at the difference user experience. Anyone can print perfect prints on a Bambu and you have them in shockingly short time even with the cheap bed slingers A1 or A1 mini.@@exasperated

    I got mine today and put it together earlier. I also thought it was weird how the guide book said to put the build plate on first, but I checked out the official "Bambu Lab A1 Combo Unboxing" video on Bambu Lab's channel where they didn't put the build plate on until almost the end, so I guess it doesn't matter. And funny about the Z-Motor wire at 17:23, I had a little trouble getting the wire through that recess (worried about pinching it too much), but when I finally did I wasn't sure how well it was staying in there, and I ended up reusing the cloth tape exactly like you did despite not seeing your video until after 😄.

I now own an X1C and love it, I'd consider an A1 but like you mentioned I'm more interested in size now because of the limit with Bambu's current offerings. I bought a Troodon 350x350 Voron clone but haven't set it up yet. Health reasons... Anyway, I'm hoping it will fill my needs for those times when I need a larger footprint.

    Just found about your channel and absolutely love it (watched both the P1S and the A1 video). As someone who is considering both (P1S Combo vs A1 Combo), do you think it is worth the extra ~450 USD to go with the former? In P1S video, you mention the speed of a bedslinger (comparing it to a Prusa mk3) being 2 to 4X slower than a Core XY machine. Does this apply to Bambu Lab A1 or are they actually close in terms of the raw speed for the same quality? What are the major disadvantages do you see going with A1 for someone who will never print ABS/ASA probably.

    • @FunctionalPrintFriday
      @FunctionalPrintFriday  5 หลายเดือนก่อน +2

      if you don't need to print materials that require an enclosure, and you're not printing in a drafty space, go with the A1. Speed will be a little less due to acceleration slinging the bed, but if you're a hobbyist and not selling parts, it's not a big deal.

SE/KE Share the same build and you just screw into the aluminum parts (the XY axis meeting the bottom plate), that's nuts. I hope A1 is better build quality. Only advantage is being able to print ABS/ASA but they are toxic so I would never print 🥲 But still, such a difficult decision, KE is still waaay cheaper for a very comparable print quality and experience. I watched several dozen 3D printer reviews for the past week, and this is the best review I watched so far. My journey started with Prusha MK4 (even read the kit installation manual) looked over Bambu X1 Carbon, Bambu P series, WUXN WXR (made in USA) Creality, LulzBot (USA made) and many others. I got excited about WXR and even contacted WUXN the manufacturer and they replied quickly. Talked with Bill over at 3D Chameleon about adding his multi-color switching device to WXR. At the end of the day A1 seems to be the best value for a beginner like me. I can't justify paying more than twice the price for other printers and some of them don't even have network connectivity. I'm not sure how they can sell these machines at this price point but works for me. Thank you for your informative video.

      MyTechFun did a review showing how the A1 mini is one of the absolute most dimensionally accurate printers you can afford... even beating out other Bambu printers.
      But gen1 may differ from current workmanship as I see a number of posts about bent beds being compensated for with autoleveling on the A1. Undoubtedly the 'good' ones benefit from more consistent thermal expansion soak or saturation times on a smaller bed relative to its rigidity. Bambu also hides very short springs in their beds for tuning at the factory so I'm curious how long term maintenance will go(?). Could do a whole series on quality control checks for home and small business users during week-one or within 30days return window. Metrology and QC got cut from most companies back in the late 90's so culturally its like speaking a foreign language to either modern consumers or manufacturers for that matter. Loved the comment in the other video on Neptine bed leveling that all metal parts are essentially 'rubber' LOL... TRUTH....I only trust my Starret Granite block to be ridgid and accurate.

    I have an A1 and it's great, but I am continually amazed that it can be described as quiet. The fan is certainly quieter than large format printers I have like the SV04, but its steppers are ear-splitting like driving down the highway with the windows open. without mitigation, you can feel it through your shoes anywhere in the house. I had to place it on a 16 inch concrete paver, on top of several layers of foam padding to contain its vibrations to one room.

      Im new to 3d printing and potentially looking for a1 (or more likely a1 mini). The steppers you are mentioning.. Thats whenever the printer moves right? So basically 24/7 while printing it's making quite a lot of noise?

    • @swagswap
      @swagswap 5 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @@woodyshooter Sort of yes, but also no. A few things: The mini is probably quieter. Mitigation does make a big difference -- the open-window-on-the-highway sound goes away. It's still louder than my other printers, but it's within the range of what I'd expect any fast printer to sound like. It's easy to slow the print speed, which can make the steppers quieter. Most other A1 owners don't seem as concerned with the noise, so I may have a loud one, or maybe I'm just more bothered by it. I really like the quality of the A1's prints, and how (relatively) little fiddling it requires. An A1 mini is probably a very good choice for a first printer.

I can swap 0.2 04 0.6 0.8 quicker than it takes to swap filament on the AMS, when the nozzle is cool obviously. Now I can prototype on 0.6/0.8 much quicker and print some extreme quality part at 0.2 (at much increased time).

    I tried the Creality K1- with easy returns to a store that is 1hr from me, but after 5 days I packed it up and sent it back and ordered the A1. While the K1 is fast, the trouble started when I loaded a different filament - PETG, which I use the most, due to printing parts that I use outside and I need more toughness and flexibility than PLA.
    I tried to blame the PETG rolls I got, but they print excellent on my old Elegoo (ender 3 clone), so there is nothing wrong with the filament itself. I went as far as taking the roll off the Elegoo that I've been using, saying that "this has to work, I just printed with this and came out good".
    For the life of me, I just couldn't dial it in for PETG, just to start off good with the first layer and have consistency among the layers following, it wasn't happening. I spent hours and days with settings and temps and recalibrations and all that, but it just wouldn't do it. PLA was ok, but I wasn't super impressed with that either, despite the speed, my old Elegoo was still beating it in quality, although doing it a lot slower. So I ended up and packed the K1 back in the box, and off it goes back for a refund. I'm sure others are happy with their K1s and good results, I wasn't, and I don't want another one. To me it looks like a rush job by Creality (and bad quality control) , not to mention the slicer was crashing on me, when I selected tree support for the models. The advice from online was "don't use tree support" or "download Orca slicer instead".
    At the end of the day, I want to print things that actually finish and useable with the least amount of struggle.
    So, while the K1 could theoretically print 3-4X more with the 250mm/s, it wasn't really printing anything because the print kept failing, while my Elegoo was putting them out , slowly but surely, so guess who was winning..not hard to decide right? I'm not a tinkerer, I want to print, not troubleshoot the printer itself. I spent minimum amount of time with the Elegoo when I got it- putting it together and that's it. $180 Black Friday sale 2yrs ago. No regrets whatsoever!
    All I changed on it was the hot-end and that's it, and it was a maintenance thing. So I'm currently still waiting on the A1, while my old printer is cranking out what I need, but I wouldn't mind to happen a bit faster, so that's why I figured the A1 should do good. As long as it really lives up to the praises by the videos I watched and the people discussed on forums then I should be a happy camper.

You get one X1C for the Enclosure, full metal hot end for CF PLA and CF Nylon and then as you grow you just need raw capacity to scale. 2-3-5-8 more A1’s. Large multipart prints done in a matter of hours and not days… this is the way to do it. Vanilla A1 no AMS, but like 10 of them.

    The new Prusa multi-color add-on, the MMU3, is known to be very reliable. But yeah, the previous versions were a buggy mess (though with new firmware they are better). I wouldn't recommend anyone get a new MK3.. the MK4 is just heads and shoulders above it. A used MK3 can be a good deal, though. Getting wifi and a camera on the MK3 is ridiculously easy, but does require a Raspberry Pi or old laptop.
    One thing your table did not mention was automatic z-offset I know the X1C and P1S have this, I'm assuming the A-1 also has it. Neither the ender nor the MK3 have anything like that. Don't know about the Anker. That is the next leap ahead after automatic bed levelling.
    And I trust Anker even less than I trust Bambu, given Anker's Eufy doorbell camera shenanigans. I think it's safe to say that Bambu is kicking ass right now, though. They are innovating like crazy and pushing the market in new directions.

    I would say (and not just for the low end), unless you enjoy the modding experience, it's just not worth it anymore. People go nuts spending $200+ to mod their 3 year old printer, spend whole weekends figuring out the firmware and calibration changes and praying someone has already gone through the same issues and has a blog post or a video about it; and at the end they end up better than before but mediocre compared to late models. For example, even this printer: you spend $400 now, then in 2-3 years you want to upgrade? either give it away or keep around as a backup. The economics simply do not favor modding/upgrading anymore. And please don't worry about "resale value". Assume $0 and choose a printer that works well today.

    • @fuzzydragoncosplay955
      @fuzzydragoncosplay955 5 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @woodyshooter honestly, I like it. Bed size is just a bit smaller than my first printers print bed, so it's not much loss, and it's been fairly reliable so long as I've used rolls of filament that's been freshly opened. I have had a few failures, and a few layer shifts, but it's been reliable otherwise. I fully intend to get an a1 eventually, just because I do want the larger print size with the speed that the a1 offers, but I'll still be using my mini too.
