  • Did Bambu just take over the bed slinger market with their brand new 500mm/s A1 3D printer?
Bambu shook up the industry 2 months ago with their introductory A1 mini 3D printer. Did they just do it again? This is one of the most advanced 3D printers in our industry, loaded with sensors, built for mass production and likely to change the industry forever again.
This is a fantastic machine for novices and experts alike.
    * CORRECTION: Y uses groove bearings.
Thank you Bambu Lab for sending over this machine for us to take a look at and share with our audiences.

@@cameron_bowe It was actually my wife’s idea. We were initially looking at child focused “toy” 3d printer, but after reading a few lukewarm user reviews and seeing it’s limited capabilities within a paid ecosystem, I decided to see what else was out there and stumbled upon the new line of Bambu A1’s. While the A1 is 50% more of an investment, I see as something our daughter will be able to grow into and hopefully give us years of use. I fear the child branded mini printer would have a potentially limited lifespan either before she lost interest within the range of trinkets that are available to be printed, or outgrew it. (I suspect that her parents will be able to get some use out of the A1 too! I’m quite excited.)

@@bbdj2779 I spent hundreds on my Ender 3 Pro to get it anywhere near decent, yet I still couldn't get it to work after messing with custom software, numerous parts, and so much time wasted. I think this is gonna save me so much time, and I can imagine for a beginner who can't do all that I did it'd be much better to get into.

Ha, I wished things like the these existed while I was a child, and that my parents could have afforded them! Anyway, please do your daughter's health a service and look into the emissions of ultra fine particles and toxic VOCs while printing different materials! I wouldn't want any child's health to be affected long term by these. Ideally have the printer operating in a outside-ventilated, non-living area/room, or at the very least get some HEPA and activated carbon filters. Best of luck!

I've been 3D printing for 13+ years starting with a Makerbot Thing-o-matic kit and building a rep rap. Then bought a replicator 2, Original CR-10, Monoprice Select Mini, and a Mars 2. I finally feel that the jump in technology is worth adding another one to the collection, and also feel like my 14 year old son can handle an A1 without me worrying too much about it. So it's ordered. Should be here Friday and will go under the tree too. The appliance age of 3D printers has arrived, thanks in part to Bambu labs.

Been printing nonstop since we opened it. Kids have been printing from the maker world app and I’m happy as heck with how the machine has been performing. Digging up all sorts of still sealed filament I’ve had from years and drying it out to see what else I can feed it. Still amazed at what a few years has made in printer advancements.

That one piece gantry is the kind of early Apple genius that Bambu has nailed right now. Gantry squareness is more of an issue in bedslingers than anything, and they just fixed it in ONE easy step. Whether or not you want their closed ecosystem, they are lighting the path for all the copycats to follow. And it's beautiful. I'm cheering for them to continue busting down the door to easy filament printing paradise for everyone!

Honestly, my experience ordering my P1S during the Black Friday sale did not blow me away ... Registering my VAT number took 3 days (luckily the sale persisted), then ordering it was totally not clear that shipping would only happen 2 weeks later. Yeah, it probably was somewhere in the small print, but this info should be sticking out if only to avoid my inquiry when 2 days later there's still no update on shipping. Ok, we might be spoiled with same day shipping in most shops nowadays, but that just makes it more important to make it clear that this is not the case here. Now the machine is magic, so that definitely didn't let me down and indeed is totally different from the 2 other printers that I got (Ender 3 Pro and Sapphire Plus).

I was going to buy a Elegoo, then changed my mind to a Anker, then the Bambu ads on TH-cam started kicking in. Two days after I ordered a X1C they let us know a new printer is coming and I'm wondering if I should cancel in case there's something better. I was happy when I found I didn't just order an outdated model and it was just the A1 mini being released. But then I buy a A1 mini and 2 weeks later there's a bigger A1. Bummer. I expect the A1 uses all the same 256x256x256 build plates which can be nice.

I love your channel and content! This is my go-to source for learning about what printers are available and 3D printing in general as I prepare to buy my first printer. I've been eyeing the P1S up until the A1 came along as I like that it has the enclosure to help keep my very curious 4yo out of harms way and better(?) air quality since we're in a small space. I see no need at this time for printing anything beyond PLA as I will be making airplane models, toys, and maybe some parts for my RC fleet. Is there enough of a difference in features to justify the extra cost of the P1S considering they're the exact same print size?
Or, do you foresee a 300mm print area on the horizon from Bambu? They seem to be releasing things quarterly and I *can* wait until Spring, but I really don't want to. haha!

Auto level never works properly, started making grinding noises after a month and anycubics solution was to lower the speed to 150mm/s and update firmware. Now their solution is to sent me new rails and a proximity sensor. I can tell you that within the next week I'm ordering a Bambu A1 combo and never recommending anything anycubic. 🤣

The way you hesitated on what the alligator clip closes on made me chuckle... If Bambu released this one first I wouldn't own an Ankermake machine right now. I don't regret it, I have a very comparable machine sans AMS. Hopefully Anker lowers the price on their color engine because then this becomes a race, and not to the bottom like everyone in 3D printing is accustomed to.

With the bed confirmed going up to 100°C and the nozzle up to 300°C, what is still not clear to me WRT printing high temperature filaments (ABS, ASA, PC)
is why Bambu Lab are saying on their wiki/FAQ page for the A1 that "We don't recommend enclosing the A1" - any ideas? Could it be due to insufficient cooling for the electronics, or maybe issues with softening the Z axis timing belt?
I am asking because I've built my own perfectly sealed enclosure (a lot of sweat went into making it) and I'd rather use that with the A1 if possible than pay for the P1S, especially since the A1 has the quick change nozzle and no "no build areas".
Bambu Lab mention they don't recommend printing high temperature filaments on the A1 due to the lack of the enclosure (the A1 is therefore not able to ensure the required higher chamber temperatures and also not able to contain the toxic VOCs), but they never explain why they recommend against enclosing the A1.

    • @LoyalMoses
      @LoyalMoses  4 หลายเดือนก่อน

It is likely the electronics. This is a very quiet machine, and heating those up in an enclosure could cause issues. Only a guess though.

    • @dan-nutu
      @dan-nutu 4 หลายเดือนก่อน

Thanks a lot for your answer! The sealed & actively heated enclosure I built was for an Ender printer, for which I thought a lot and I was relatively confident that I could detach at least the power supply and the mainboard, move them outside the enclosure and connect them back to the printer by extending the cables to the stepper motors, switches, print bed and hot end (I already have the longer cables - a different set).
I don't have an A1 to look at so I'm hoping you could give me an idea, please - do you think it would be possible without a lot of effort to separate the PSU & the motherboard like I described above for the Ender printer, or would it be just too complicated? I'm also thinking here about the little MCU circuit I understand the A1 has in the hot end itself - that would most probably have to stay there, but I'd expect it to tolerate higher temperatures given where it already is.
Apart from that, are the other electronic components easily accessible? Are there a lot of cables between them? Are they connected using standard or proprietary connectors?
      Many thanks!

Absolutely! Bambu is really shaking up the industry, and these are the most advanced machines that we’ve ever seen. Unfortunately it’s causing a lot of people who may be overly passionate about existing brands to spread rumors and misinformation.
There has not been any evidence shown that Bambu is doing anything nefarious.
The machine works fine with or without networking enabled, and if you ever were concerned, it can be treated like any untrusted device on your network and be segmented appropriately.

@@HosaBosa If you can still return it, I'd definitely go with Bambu. With the price you paid for the K1 max, you can get the P1S with AMS and probably most likely be much happier with your purchase. Bambu printers just WORK! I have 3.... one X1C and two P1S that literally run 24/7. Aside from a few very MINOR hiccups that were very easy fixes, I've had nothing but excellent results and experience with these printers and don't have the time to constantly fix various issues, especially with a brand new printer! Some people like tinkering, I do as well, but I'd rather tinker on other various projects while my printers are running. I've never had to contact support for anything as of yet, but I've heard they're great. However they do sometimes take a few days to get back to you. (They're working on improving their support response times) They were a small startup company who have exploded in the 3D industry over night and still have some things to sort out such as their support response times. Your choice, but again, if you can still return your printer, I'd do it in a heartbeat! Especially with what you stated about Creality support. Obviously they give two craps about your issue with THEIR printers and that alone would make me never want to purchase from them again or give them a cent of my hard earned money. Anyways, if you do go with Bambu, Just make sure to check out their Wiki page and or watch some videos on the maintenance side of things, keep them maintained, and you should be golden! People have had more problematic issues with Bambu of course due to failed hardware/lemon parts, but as with EVERY company, there's always a certain percentage of lemon parts of which Bambu will happily replace along with an instructional video and most likely issue a partial refund for your time fixing it yourself. (So I've heard) and they have addressed ALOT or most of those initial issues already. There's a great Q&A on Reddit r/3Dprinting titled "I am Dr. Tao, CEO of Bambu Lab. Ask me anything" where he answers many questions and is very transparent about their company and issues they've had along the way and have since fixed. It seems they're a company who genuinely wants to give people the best 3D printing experience as possible, are very transparent and open about things, listens to suggestions and ideas from the community and are constantly working to improve user experience. Anyways, Good luck and Happy printing! 😊

I think for the p1s with the ams is right around 900 or something plus shipping. But the a1 combo is what I'm really lookin Yat currently. It'd two longer screws that screw into the hot end and into the block so idk what ima do.

Good review, and I'm interested in the A1 combo, but you gloss over the same show stopper every other reviewer glosses over:
We buy the machine, set it up, connect to internet, download firmware and take it off the internet. Not off the LAN, just off the internet, as if Bambu took down their cloud servers. How much and which functionality do we lose? (I'm not the trusting sort who believes a company will leave servers up indefinitely when they're not being paid monthly to keep them up.)

Quite a bit of the internals on the AMS-Lite are softer metals or plastics and they may become damaged over a relatively short time with abrasives.

@@LoyalMoses If it's anything like the P1 series, they run off an ESP32 which is fine for operating the machine itself but far too underpowered for a HD 30fps+ camera. It's also the reason why the P1 display is minimal as they don't have a native display output onboard.
Seems they managed to get a nicer display on the A1 but I also assume it uses SPI to communicate with the processor which is why you can see the screen redrawing when you move around the UI.

P1S can print more advanced filaments because of the enclosure and the P1S you can use 4 AMS units for 16 colors ready to go, but the price of the original AMS sucks. It now feels like Bambu has too many products in the channel and for someone (me) who wants to get into 3D printing for the first time, I have no idea where to start. I know I want to print something big, so the A1 mini is out of the running. I know I want to just buy a thing and make things rather than fiddling and tweaking, but that's the problem Bambu solves with all their printers. They've got this slew of printers that are all like "Well for 200 more... well for 200 more... well with this upgrade... well for 200 more and the upgrade..." Leads to analysis paralysis.

I think this paralysis has been in our industry for a long time, and the price point decisions have just been across brands. Bambu will have all of the price points covered and keep everyone on the same brand choosing what budget they are comfortable with.
The primary question, are you going to print more exotic filaments / engineering filaments or keep things simple with PLA and PETG?

in my opinion they should have waited another month and put a better camera on it with ai spaghetti detection. this sets it apart from the a1 mini. currently they've just released the a1 mini but with a bigger build volume. the other specs are the exact same. same ams, still only one, slightly larger screen, but same UI, same purge bucket issue, it's just not enough to warrant a new printer. I get that they want to shock people by releasing one every 3 months, but making a better printer should come before getting a bunch out consistently. Just my thoughts...
