      How many of those engine problems are from bikes broken in as stated by bmw? It would be nice to know just for context and balance...

    Rod wouldn't have much to do with a tune. Specially brentuning as they don't raise the rpm limit that aggressive. Maybe a blocked oil channel or something. This is similar motor to s1000rr. So unfortunately just bad luck.

    I had a 2014 BMW s1000r that had cam lobe failure. I was the second owner and BMW fixed everything free of charge. Yes, I was still under warranty but BMW didn't bat an eye and took care of making the situation right. Only drawback (aside from the problem itself) was the time I had to wait for all the parts needed to do the repair. If I recall correctly it was about 2 months in total.

  • @johnny749

    From what I've read Motorrad have one of the highest warranty and recall rates of all manufacturers not because they are inferior but because they back what they sell (nice to hear the new motor is on its way and looking forward to viewing a decent run on the track) keep up the great work.

    @6:28 First off I'm sorry about your bike man. It looks like you would of been off the throttle when it threw the rod through the side of the case! I'm almost thinking a bolt or something broke causing the failure and not the motor starving for oil because of something getting clogged! I've got the 22 M1000RR Comp. and reading the title of your vid made me sick to my stomach! I am glad this happened to you now and not 1500 miles in or two years in of ownership. Please keep us updated on EVERYTHING because its platforms like yours that keeps guys like us from getting screwed when 💩 hits the fan! Thanks for everything you do.

    I have an S1000rr ((2012) that was recalled for this issue. The factory piston rods were replaced (under recall) with titanium. So BMW is well aware of the issue, having dealt with it before. I think they're just choosing not to deal with it this time and trying to avoid the enormous expense of correcting it. Blame the victim (owners) seems to be working for them.

  • @masonthisquen3845

    I had an aprilia rsv4 2012 and I had a connecting rod fail in exactly the same spot as you at Buttonwillow. Hole in the case as well. 2nd gear, shift to third, kaboom and I went off track. Funny that we had nearly the same experience on different bikes.

    You had a tune on the bike and not to be a stinker but you may have a hard time getting that covered under warranty. I am heavy into Aprilia's and Moto Guzzi's and no way, the Piaggio group would have covered that with a tune. Good luck and I will follow this as I am curious to see how BMW will handle this. All the best!

    • @CaliMotoTV
      @CaliMotoTV  ปีที่แล้ว +12

      The only way they can deny the claim is if they can prove without reasonable doubt that you're modifications cause the catastrophic failure if you have to fight a company like Aprilia and Ducati you shouldn't ride those bikes

    @575 miles...Break-in is @600miles (mandatory break-in) ...In which you return it to the dealer for its first service and inspection. Plus, have the revlimiter removed.
    Why are you all getting these expensive bikes, which are equivalent to an exotic car... Then, being impatient, thus failing the bike. Then posting and complaining as if the bike failed you. You and motomillion are giving bmw every reason not to cover the warranty and look at valet warranty claims with more scrutiny.

    • @CaliMotoTV
      @CaliMotoTV  5 หลายเดือนก่อน +3

      Shouldn't they look at all claims with the same level of scrutiny regardless of who it is? Putting a piston through the block is far from an unsubstantiated complaint.

    • @themicson8393
      @themicson8393 5 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @CaliMotoTV As experienced adults, we both know it doesn't work that way with insurance claims (I agree it should, maybe). The difference in scrutiny should be based on what was done or not done, not who it is. That said, my stock bike claim and your modified bike claim will not be looked at the same, especially when modifications have been documented on the internet. Furthermore, look how quickly your claim was handled, which is great. Still do you think that's the same for every customer? I mean Motomillion has a totally different experience, and I'm sure there are others.

    • @jarnom85
      @jarnom85 5 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Piston through block is not break in issue. Break-in is there to make piston rings settle to cylinder wall, nothing to do with piston and rod come through engine block, thats failure of rods, bolts or bearings that do not need break-in. I have GSX-R 1000 K6, i didnt care about break-in's 18 years ago and went straight to the track, didn't break it in, still works perfectly because its build properly.

    Breakin for the bike is 700 miles before you uncork the rpm. BMW is probably going to say that you didn't follow your breakin procedure. They will be able to see exactly what was done in the ECU. I would suspect they will probably push back against your claim. I tend to follow the initial break in period before mods unless Ive got extra cash handy. Good luck Bill.
    PS: Just saw your post about BMW sending out a new motor. That's quick service Bill. Unfortunately our shop would not be able to react that quick. A BMW rep would have to come out, inspect the bike then push the claim which could take sometime. Very happy that you seem sorted out. Seems like that bike was built on hangover Monday! ;-)
