Book time on my 18 F150 3.5T phasers, chain, water pump, etc (with some minor exceptions, the job you spelled out here) was 18 hours. I came in right at that with your guidance and I took my time over a 3 days stretch to let things cure before starting and cleaning up. Thank you ever so much for taking the time to compose this and to all of you wondering, this is spot on instruction. Follow this step by step and you will cure what ails your beast. Now on to fishing!

Just replaced my phasers and used this as my guide. Really great video!
Taking pictures, using colored electrical tape to mark some of those electrical, vacuum and coolant connections and putting all the parts in order of removal was very helpful in getting everything back together.
I will clarify that the harmonic puller is a 3 jaw type and to install you need the other harmonic remover/installer that has the bolt with 2 thread types to put on the harmonic balancer. A strap wrench was very useful to hold the motor while torquing the crank bolt but i would recommend torquing it before removing the cam holder tool. (I already put the valve covers on)
The trim removal tool was worth every penny for those Christmas tree connectors. Hose clamp pliers were helpful too (i used to just use channel locks).
Red scotch-brite pads and a $10 Harbor Freight dremel with a wire wheel were great for getting that valve cover cleaned off.

2018 F150 3.5 Eco with 80,000 miles. Cam Phaser rattle started about 60,000, I towed 20,000 miles with the rattle.
I watched about 3 different You-Tubes and followed Kenneth's the most. He really had a lot of detail. I had trouble getting the Cam phasers off with the cheap tool
on the internet. The cam tool bent and the Torx Plus almost stripped the bolts. I bought a quality Stallion cam tool and OTC Torx plus from Freedom Racing in Iowa.
A special thanks to Brain at FR, he was awesome, very knowledgeable. The crank pulley tool from the internet was fine. To install the crank pulley, I bought a 4” grade ten
bolt to get it started. I did not have to tap it on. The most difficult thing I thought was the timing cover. You don’t have enough time to install it using the #357 silicone.
When finished, I pre-primed the oil holding the gas pedal down for about 10 seconds until pressure. It fired up right away, quiet and smooth.
I added antifreeze and topped off about 3 times without a vacuum. No problems, no codes.
I want to give a special thanks to Kenneth for his awesome video because it made most things very, very easy.
I’m 71 years old and did the job in about 20 hours by myself taking my time. I worked on engines in my younger years, but conventional V-8’s, nothing like this.
I made a 2’ x 4’ Shelf that laid on top of the radiator to a 4’ ladder with a pad. I bought the parts from Ford on line for 30% off. Parts cost $1500 and tools cost $300.00
Here is a list of items I bought.
Cam Phasers (4), Timing Chains (2), Crank Gear, Chain Guides (2) , Tensioner Arms (2), Chain Tensioners (2), Solenoids (4), Water Pump, Thermostat,
Valve Covers (2), By-Pass Hose, Lower Hose, Upper Hose, A/C Belt, Serpentine Belt, Plus all the Gaskets, Seals and Bolts.

@@juicer911 so I’m done I used the list you provided for tools and parts. Along with the tutorial I change the cam phasers on my expedition 2019. Now it sounds beautiful and it runs amazingly powerful. Thank you so much. The bottom anchor for the battery cable I didn’t even put back I just taped it back with electrical wire and it was good. You were right it’s a pain to take that one bolt out. In total it took me 20 hours. That is including the time for torque specs and pausing and rewinding vid. I was told by ford that it was gonna take 30 labor hours for them to complete. So I think I did pretty good lol. I spent 2000k in tools and materials (Walmart, harbor freight and Amazon ). Thank you so much for doing this video.

Just a tip for anyone that plans on doing this, clean the surfaces before you re install any of the timing components it makes it easier to clean, and if you break the small connector for the oil pressure solenoid when removing the front cover just clean the Area and Sensor with brake clean and super glue it back in place.
and to help time everything it doesn't matter too much if you spin the engine Counter clock wise a little just make sure all your timing marks line up before you set the final tensioner, you can also slightly move the cam phasers to get some more slack on the chain. these take me about 6 hours to do so just some tips on how I make it easier.
when re installing the Front cover use the Long bolts in the middle of the front cover to help you line up if you are afraid of smearing the sealant.

    • @littlebrw
      @littlebrw 10 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

Also helps if you use silicone spray on the valve cover seals when removing, makes the covers break loose easier.
and the front cover seals when re installing, along with any hoses you disconnected.
and if your vehicle is high mileage try and set the hose clamps back it its original position( it should be imprinted on the hoses) other wise it might cause a coolant leak.

Kenneth! Fine job of explaining the step by step of R &R the cam phaser.
Just a thing that helps and makes it easy to get the valve cover to come off. Just spray spray something like WD40 around the seals and take a sharp pick and just it and the valve cover will lift off with ease..
Remove the coolant recovery tank with 2 bolts and 1 small hose..
Remove the air filter. It can trap a small thing like a lock washer which would be sucked in to a turbo.
Then you will need a turbo. Saw this happen in a tractor dealers shop.

I have a 2017 3.5 Ecoboost, I have had this done at the dealership "Twice", thank goodness it was under warranty. Having said that I have the rattle yet again, and I'm out of warranty. Im at 110k miles, just really frustrated with this issue amongst others like the 10 speed transmission that I had replaced @ 100k miles, and the infamous leaking oil pan issue. I know all brands have their issues but damn this is a lot for one truck, and it's not just mine. These newer f-150s definitely have their problems.

A lot of Ford dealers are not installing the updated phasers. They have a surplus of the old phasers that fail but under a warranty repair they install what’s in stock. Anyone having this done should always request the new update phasers are installed and not the old version. The new versions are the ones where you cannot see the springs on the front of the phaser. Hope this helps.
