After hearing and reacting to Angelina's performance of "Summertime", I just had to look up another of her tracks whilst she was around the same age. I had this song suggested to me by all you guys in the comments. Again the live band and her interpretation of this classic song just blew me away!

We're heading almost 3 years after this reaction and I still remember your first flummoxed faces. I keep wondering: "How you (or any of us) ever fully understood this fantastic performance?" This remains my favorite performance of this song ever.
Angelina is a prodigy… a musical genius. I believe that this is the greatest version of this song ever recorded. It doesn’t seem possible coming from such a young girl. It is perfection. I have to listen to it at least once a day… this and her other songs. She was 9 here and had already recorded her first album, and had already published her book. Her book, “Between Two Hearts,” tells the story of a friendship she made with another little girl, and how that relationship lead to her always performing barefoot. She won “Norway’s Got Talent” at 7. Angelina is sensational.
Now you realize why she deserves such talented musicians! She makes them look great too!
This girl's lower register is the BEST I've ever heard on ANYBODY.Angelina Jordan is a serious singer.She's Amazing.

First I discovered Diana Ankudinova and Dimash Kudaibergen. Excellent singers, great talent. There souls are born on Broadway and in Las Vegas. Angelina Jordans soul was born in Chicago and New Orleans. This "jazzy" touch in her voice and her incredible abilty to make every cover her own song makes her unique.

I think Angelina is beyond gifted. That little note in the beginning was about the things she wanted from the band. She’s quite a bit more than just a vocal protégé.
There's no way a 10 year old should be singing this song... Even adult singers will hesitate to tackle songs such as this. But Angelina being so innocent and CAPABLE just did a marvelous job in this one... No fear at all, she's just enjoying her stuff. What an incredible young performer.
No matter what your expectations, she exceeds them by light years!

There is only one thing to describe her - an old soul. You close your eyes and think there is at least a 40 years old woman with a livetime of expirience behind her not a small little girl.

What more can you really say about Angelina ... Words will be poor ... the upcoming vocal queen .. In 4 to 5 years, the whole world will know her. No unnecessary roads along the way ... just the joy of music interpretation.
This is one of the most perfect 3 minutes in music history ever. She has extracted everything that was good from the crazy screamin Jay Hawkins song and added some magic Angelina to it.

Greetings from Norway. Loving your reaction and feed back. She put a spell on me in Norway when I first heard her on a talent show. Only 7 years of age. There is nobody like her.
I have heard similar version before in the 60's-70's who sang it then I don't remember, but Angelina Nailed it, even she changes the structures of the songs a bit to fit her voice and abilities she is still always true to keeping the essence of the songs and pays nice respectful tribute to the original artists.

After listening to the many recordings and videos that Angelina Jordan has made, I have earworms that keep me entertained and amazed throughout my day and in my dreams at night. She is destined to be a superstar!
Remember Angelina makes her OWN version of this song ... In the beginning you see gentleman looking over the score and smiling. Don't miss that!! He is reviewing her interpretation! AND, don't miss the intensity on her face especially at the end. There is so much to see here that's not mentioned a lot if at all. I think we must remember that prodigies are a wonderful part of humanity! Angelina started working at 1.5 ... so she has been seriously studying for 11+ years now. I just love to watch her, not just her singing (which is second to no one, in my opinion) but her hand gestures and her facial expressions. And those darling little feet, so child-like and innocent!!! And I just love how she's a little girl until she starts singing, and then reverts back to a child when she finishes, almost like someone just flipped an on-off switch! I'm 69 and I'm in awe that she has personally done more in her young life so far for the good of the world (concerts for charity, loudly supporting great causes) Heck, she even was invited to sing at the opening concert for the Nobel Peace Prize!!! I'll never in my life accomplish as much as she's done already.
The power in this little dynamo is beyond belief. My common sense tells me this is impossible but here we have it , OMG I try not to go every day to listen to her but I cant do it. I fell hopelessly in love with this girls voice and style the day I saw her sing 'Gloomy Sunday' on Norways Got Talent. Then when she sang Gershwins 'Summertime' from Porgy & Bess I was reduced to a gibbering idiot. This girl is going to be one of the greatest interpreters of jazz classics of all time.
I have listened to this video over fifty times between you and other reactors and just listening to it. I never get tired of listening to it. It is based on the rendition by Screaming Jay Hawkins who wrote the lyrics back in 1956. So Angelina's version is true to the original, for sure. And with the superb band backing and her emotional performance, this video is destined to be a classic in its own right. About the only thing that would make it more believable would be to have it done by a 40-year-old singer...maybe she will do it just for laughs about 25 years from now... Anyway, great reaction...I remain incredulous over this performance to this day!
I agree 100% and also have watched it 50-75 times now as a reaction video and love it...the entire video is a stand-alone work of art. Not one tiny detail should be missed.
I put off watching the entire video at first because of two issues: that she would damage her voice if she made a habit of singing this song (thank God there is a video to play over and over!), and I was a little concerned there might be parental coaching, but as we see, this little grounded, earthy Capricorn leads with her creativity and love of her craft.💜
True to the original, yes. It's also different, though. Most surprisingly, she has an emotional depth that I don't find with Screaming Jay.

Incredible. Does put a smile on your face, you can't help it. I think in this day and age, with the way things have been, we need it. I don't think this music ever really died though, disagree there, but modern music has become more a part of the culture, yet, like vinyls, it has always been there and can rematerialize at any time and still make you feel good. It can still provoke happiness and sadness or longing at the same time. It's haunting, in the best way. By the way, I've looked her up, she's fifteen now and has done many albums already. I think I might want them all. There goes a fortune.

Because she is Angelina!! She is an artist. Normal does not apply to her. The barriers you would usually associate with her being young have been swept aside. She will accomplish things that normal humans can't even conceive of. Her control over her voice is amazing. I am excited to see what she does next.

I saw this for the first time about a couple of hours ago. Everyone’s reaction is the same: whaaaaaaa?!? Apparently she was influenced by her grandmother’s Blue’s records and started singing at three. 😳 She’s now in her early to mid-teens.

Angelina Jordan is a musical genius. She started singing at 1 1/2 years old. In addition to singing, she plays the piano, the violin, the flute, and the guitar. She has also published a book and she writes music and arrangements.

I first discovered Angelina about a year ago, having been reading something about a Billie Holiday recording of a track entitled Gloomy Sunday. After learning of the song’s history, I decided to look for it on TH-cam. Amongst the videos listed was one that said something like “7-year-old performing Gloomy Sunday on Norway’s Got Talent.” I immediately lost interest in hearing Billie Holiday’s rendition because, now knowing the dirge-like nature of the song, I was intrigued as to what would inspire a 7-year-old to have even heard it, let alone want to sing it.
The performance wasn’t quite to the standard we would later be treated to, maybe in no small part be due to the fact that she happened to have lost her milk teeth not long before, which cannot help. But the funny thing was that, having heard Angelina, I felt I knew exactly how Billie Holiday’s version would sound. Holiday said she got her style and phrasing from listening to Satchmo’s then-unique trumpet playing - and here was a 7-year-old Scandinavian who is studious enough and talented enough to pretty much nail it.
One of the impressed but obviously confused judges was forced to ask her if she knew what the song was about and was satisfied with her responding “A sad Sunday” but it was clear from the fact she wasn’t singing the true lyrics, but rather what she thought she was hearing, that she probably did not appreciate it as a song sung from the viewpoint of someone contemplating suicide . . . which may be a blessing.
I’ve been hooked ever since and particularly like what she did with the Sonny & Cher song “Bang Bang”, also at 8 years old, although I since discovered that the arrangement was the same as a Nancy Sinatra cover. She has also gone where the wise of any age fear to tread, at least while sober, by taking on songs made famous by Shirley Bassey (Diamonds Are Forever), Whitney Houston (I Have Nothing), Dolly Parton (Jolene) and did a particularly emotional rendition of Willie Nelson’s Always On My Mind (dedicated to her recently deceased grandfather). None of the above are my favourites because I’ve realised I can’t come up with one, which is surely something one only ever says about the great, but her song "Shield", because she wrote it herself, would not be out of place on any contemporary chart show.
I’m probably being disrespectful to someone, but I wonder how it feels to be your nation’s most famous citizen internationally by the age of ten! I would suggest Angelina Jordan is just the tonic Norway needed following that madman Anders Breivik.
I agree with everything you say but would go a little further and express the opinion the she is a tonic to everyone who listens to her and all people, whatever nationality, should be proud that they can have the privilege of listening to and watching Angelina perform.
And, a "shout out" to the additional musicians who add the emphasis and exclamation points at just the right nano-seconds in this version. Just great!

"A day without Angelina's voice is a day lost." This is an incredible cut from the fabulous Angelina. I have listened to this so many times but I never ever tire of listening once again. It's like a good pill for your heart. At times, in fact most of the time, she just flabbergasts me.
