Her Grandmother introduced Angelina to jazz at 3 yr old :)
@Josiah Thompson hey Thanks JoJo! Take care buddy and I appreciate the kind words dude.
@@bobcieslinski My intro to Angelina was when she was 7 and sang FLY ME TO THE MOON ...My eyes welled up with tears immediately. She is a child prodigy.
@th-cam.com/video/rFWs2Z_RZ3Y/w-d-xo.html
She was nine years old when she recorded this video. Also, I heard her given an interview and she said her influences were jazz singers, including Billie Holiday. If you watch her audition for Norway got talent when she was seven years old I believe she sings Billie Holiday song a cappella. You should definitely check it out. She also plays many instruments, including the piano, violin, guitar and flute.
So this is what a true prodigy is
Go girl, let it rip!!! She is doing a awesome job. She will go far
She is a special one for sure.
Angelina has been here before. Listen to ten of her songs and tell me I'm wrong. You can't "learn" to sing like this at nine years old.
It's 2/20/23 and this is STILL the greatest thing I've ever seen.
This is her tribute to Screamin Jay Hawkins, a male artist from '50's, early '60's...This is her own arrangement of his song.
Don't know if you will see this Bob, but you need to see her first session in the recording studio. I think she was 6 years old and she sings I Who Have Nothing! I was so blown away by it! You need to see it.
Thanks so much for suggesting this. I’ll try to check it out.
The Queen Band that are now together, I believe it was Brian May were so impressed they gave her recording rights for Bohemian Rhapsody. So special, very proud of her. ❤
She is so special. I’m loving her stuff.
Wow ..... chills. Amazing!!🤯🤯👏👏👏👏👏
Angelina is just badass. This is the best thing ever.
Butter hair is Norwegian, the band, Angelina Jordan she was born in Oslo Norway. She speaks four languages and she plays several instruments. Piano is her best instrument and you cannot teach what she’s doing here and asked to come natural but you gotta work out it was she does. She works hard and her music and studies in practices for uncle Hood for manager, said that she spends days in our president, studying and practicing studying.
I like the point where you praise the sax and she breathes in and it looks like she is thinking that she would have to apologize for exhaling again without singing.
Bob, no thought of turning back now. You have a one way ticket like the rest of us on her journey to wherever she wants to take us. What a ride!
Oh what a ride alright. This is special.
She gave me chillsss
Loved Your Reaction to Angelina Jordan. 👍🏻
Thanks Jim!
it was this recording that hooked me 6 years ago! Totally HOOKED.
I can understand why Renee! She is special.
At nine years old, you can't get a kid to do anything they don't want to do, much less put in hours of practice and rehearsal. You've said it before, Angelina is channeling the jazz greats.
You said it kids that young have other things they would rather be doing. She is special.
She arrange this whole thing her self. She arrange the whole show herself the paper you saw her to give to. The Director was a change the water in the band to play a little bit difficult to change my house. You’re gonna do it she may be the smallest one in the room, but she’s the boss she runs the whole show. They got her the boss respect because I love this girl.
She’s a mind blowing talent to be able to do all of that so well.
The arrangement is great
Yes, when I first heard this I bowed down to her. I’ve never done that in my life to anyone else. Been hooked on this young master ever since. Need not say anymore.
You should see her now!
I plan on it. Man she’s so good.
A musical explosion !!!
They said she did know at a very young age 1 1/2 years old I think that she wanted to be a singer.
I think you of all people can appreciate the fact that a group of seasoned musicians called her " The Boss", during the recording of this. She had a hand in EVERY aspect of this recording, besides her vocal interpretation. Great reaction!
When interviewed, she hides the 'boss' in her and is extremely pleasant. Well coached by her mother.
Wow yeah that says a lot.
Congrats, you just discovered the most astonishing voice of the century...!
Yes she is amazing!
Angelina credits her idol Billie Holiday for "discovering" AJ at a very young age, introduced by her grandmother Mery.
I think I have figured out something about what makes Angelina exceptional. To start, when you look at a particular genre of music like classical or country or rock, for each genre is a single standard way of singing that every one of its performers follows. But jazz is different. Different jazz singers are often quite distinct from each other in how they sing, and so jazz is more like a whole family of styles.
Now what Angelina has done is learn the distinctive styles of many different jazz singers, and then she picks out pieces from various different ones according to the nature of the song and how she has decided to interpret it in a particular performance, and all with great originality and musical understanding. I don't know of anyone else who does this, or at least not to the extent that she does, much less from such a young age.
Les that is the best way to describe what she can do. I always say that she has this influences but makes them her own instead of copying. She is a one of a kind. To be this young and getting jazz like she does isn’t normal it’s exceptional.
Thanks, Bob C. - I really love her young vocals... of course, she's older now and doing more - including some of her own compositions... at this age (9) - the band already was calling her "the boss" b/c she had such input to her own arrangements...
Thanks GinMae! She’s special.
💯
No one like Angelina, she was born to sing. My favorite singer since discovering her 3 years ago. Thumbs up Bob.
Thanks Julio!
I truly love watching musicians watch Angelina for the first time. The bewilderment in your expression is priceless.
Oh I was bewildered alright. She is a special young lady.
I'm SO glad this was my introduction song to Angelina. For, me, it will always be the first aong I will tell people to check out for their first experience of her. I never tire of this. SOOOO many incredible elements/techniques she displays here: growl, whistle "split" harmonics, her lowest notes, AT AGE NINE, dip into baritone register! Then she shows INCREDIBLE breath control and classical vibrato. ASTOUNDING performance. And to think she had the presence of mind to stay truer to the original than anyone else ever has and yet create her OWN ARRANGEMENT is just stunning. And she's also an extraordinary human being. These are some of the reasons she is adored by hundreds of millions of people across the globe.
You are so right Charles. She is a special young lady and the things she can do are mind blowing.
Fierce Masterpiece! Fearless, timeless and ageless. Wonderful ❣️
You work at west hills intermediate! Your the band teacher u might know me I went there for 6th grade. I loved band so much💗
Hey J I can’t see your pic enough to see who you are. If I had you in band, I will know you. Comment back and let me know. I’m so glad you loved band. I sure love teaching it. Once your in the band family you’re in. Take care and I can’t wait to hear back from you.
Angelina always manages to get the best musicians; no surprise, really. 😎
How many musicians of this caliber would collaborate with a nine year old unless they knew of her genius. For God sakes someone put this on a jazz radio station.
Very true about thr musicians.
Bob, great reactions to Angelina. People have probably already told you but you must hear Angelina, Age 8 singing What a difference a day makes, and Age 10 singing I'm still holding out for you. I can tell you already love her voice but these 2 will put you over the top.
Thanks Gary! I’m totally blown away at what she can do at a really young age for jazz.
@@bobcieslinskiJust found you! I love your observations and your appreciation of all of her abilities! I agree with the songs mentioned here, and hope you’ve also listened to “ Summertime “ at age 8. , and “ A Million Miles” ( Adele’s) at 11. - If not, don’t miss them!!! Also “ Stay” (by Rihanna ) and “” Go Easy on Me” (Adele) at about age 11 will take your breath away. There are endless amazing songs you can listen to by Angelina, but these ( and more) are essentials!!! DONT MISS THEM!!
@@BAfan-tt9zlthanks for the suggestions and for being here. I’m glad you are here.
(Oops! "A Million Miles" is really good, too(and an original, I believe!) , but I meant "A Million Years Ago", which is one of my very favorite performances of Angelina's! It was done at her house, I believe, at about 11, with just the guitarist, Ivan Mendez in just one or 2 takes, I heard! Amazing and heart-wrenching! )
great reaction
Thanks Denning!
What in the 50yr old in a toddler body is goin' on here!? When she opens her mouth, the ancestors come out! 👏🏾 I would listen to the little girl sing me a whole love song and drink my wine accordingly 😂
Love songs are no problem, there are more than can be listed, but I have my doubts about wine 😉
Lol
Angelina's grandma Mery played jazz records all the time in the house -so Angelina was exposed to it since birth - in fact, I wouldn't be surprised if she heard some jazz music vibration while still in the womb.
That makes sense because she just has a feel for jazz.
There are so many things going on here. The song is quite dark, grown-up, borderline disturbed. That makes the contrast big with a small cute girl.
The first thing people notice is her deep voice. And the fantastic vibrato. And then she growls. And squeak. And use various speaking tones. Plays with the rhythm in fascinating ways. She interacts with the band in interesting ways (eg callback). They are all very synchronized. And then she adds a long section of simple vocalization, end it all up with a short solo. Somewhere along the performance, you realize you are deeply touched on an emotional level.
All this hit you right in the stomach, again and again, with no chance to recover. I almost ended up drained and flabbergasted first time.
Most people seeing this first time think she was born for this type of music. They couldn't be more wrong. Whatever AL takes on, she makes it her own and contributes with something new. I am just as surprised every time.
Loved the middle Eastern flavour of that last run where she describes an arabesque with her hand.
She is in my opinion over all one of the best female singers living. She is not only a singer, she is an artist.
I've seen this several times and my brain has trouble believing it. What a wonderful person and talent
For sure Larry!
Much better than I thought. 1920’s jazz feel
No one is prepared for this!
I love this performance so much. As they say AJ don't play. We get the most stunning, amazing performance of a 9 yr old of this Jazz standard ever created. I believe it is going to go down in Jazz & Music history as the best ever for this age and in my opinion the best rendition of this song ever created Screamin Jay included. It will be revisited for Decades and will remain relevant for Generations to come. Anyone who discovers this performance for the first time today or a 100 years from today are going to be as amazed and astounded as everybody has been to this point.
Think of the children who will be inspired by this one performance in the decades to come. This is an Iconic performance and will always be Iconic. Angelina has on her own from early on at 6 or 7 yrs old reintroduced what I believe will be a whole new Jazz Era and redefined by this young phenom and prodigy. That is astounding! And she is just 17 years old... That is unfathomable. She has already established her proficiency and incredible work ethic in this endeavor guided by an incredible family and professional support now surrounding her.
You just watched a Masterpiece! Destined to go down in Music History as the best performance by a 9 yr old, Period! Past, present & dare I say Future! I'd like to see anyone, young or old who can do a cover of this & with the justice it deserves as Angelina has done on every cover she does. ♥👣👸🏻
Thanks so much for thr awesome info!
Arranged by Angelina, the girl is beyond genius level. Great reaction Bob.
Thanks Max! She sure is.
Angelina: an old soul
A masterpiece by her! So stunning magical!👌💫❤️
She is all grown up. Now over 18.
Her grandmother introduced her to jazz, and she took it to duck like to a water. She loves jazz, but she saying all kinds of songs. Now she can say anything, but jazz a spot to go to the jazz queen. That’s what you meant by the barefoot princess, you’ll learn that story to watch the barefoot single time nevertheless, she’s great and she has watch it watch it many times Billie Holiday or Louis Armstrong Ella Fitzgerald all the great she studied and study and study and listen and listen and l and her family encouraged her. They had an office in a recording booth at the age of six.
😀😀😀😀😀
Her grandmother's jazz collection was a huge inspiration for her. She makes the band sound good....and vise-versa. The sax is killing it.
*Congratulations on finding an Alien from another planet. As you've learned by now, there's nothing normal about this girl, Angelina Jordon.* *>>New Subscriber here.
Thanks Radical Rick for thr info and for becoming a subscriber!
A voice that's like black magic powerful enough to raise the dead. WOW 👌
Context this song always reminds me of the traditional Haitian (I think) zombie myth. I know it was originally sung like a love song but well screaming Jay came along and did what he did and the rests history.
Thanks for thr comment and history.
Yeah..Angelina made history here..not the first time, nor the last! It is truly a conundrum when we try to rationalize how it is possible that this tiny sweet-faced 9yo Norwegian girl can step up to a microphone, flip some switch within her, become this "beast-mode" version of herself (most probably named "AJ don't play"), deliver an extraordinary and musically and socially sophisticated performance, then just-like-that return to the pensive young lady once again... There aren't words for this!
"I Put a Spell On You" has been covered many times and is recognized as a classic, yet almost never is the tone of the original 1956 "Screamin" Jay Hawkins version captured. This is because Hawkins was the original shock-rock guy (think Ozzy Osbourne-type craziness) and his style is difficult to emulate and also because his dated delivery is uncomfortable and stereotypical to our modern sensibilities. Yet Angelina respectfully sings his own song in a manner that exceeds his (Hawkin's image is on the candle she holds at the start of her video).
You must go and listen to Hawkins' original (and throw in a couple of "famous" covers as well) to see the true genius in how AJ incorporates many of his vocal elements [usually omitted by most singers]. This shows another aspect of her musical IQ and arranging genius (not to mention her masterful control of her vocal instrument equaled by few others regardless of age). "Screamin" Jay Hawkins original "I Put A Spell on You" th-cam.com/video/orNpH6iyokI/w-d-xo.html
Since you asked one of my favorites that gets way too little attention from Angelina (at 11yo) is:
"Lovin You"(Etta James-I Just Want To Make Love To You) th-cam.com/video/Y4WPbmjgUg4/w-d-xo.html
Lovin You(same performance without instrumental intro): th-cam.com/video/qvmrvEdYSOY/w-d-xo.html
Angelina rides the jazz wave like a pro (and lets the dogs out)! Not to be missed!
Awesome stuff here Ken thanks! She is so natural at jazz and it’s a hard thing to grasp especially for younger kids. Ive added that to the list thanks!
the most amazing thing is that she arranged it herself at the age of 9 after listening to the original 1956 song by Scream Jay Hawkins and stayed pretty much true to it, the band is proud to play for them they call them the boss
…they affectionately call her the boss.
@@dojoswitzer Of course you are right

9 years 2 months old. She is a Killer! 😎🇺🇲👍🌟💯
She his one of the best new singers, if not the best of all new singers, and if she continues growing maybe the best of all time. I woul like to see you react to the music Brothers in Arms from Dire Straits but the live version from the album Alchemy, and if you like then its mandatory to react to the music Sultans of Swing from the same album, for me one of the best live performance of all time, and i advise to lesson to the full album only for you, best regards!
This song has millions and millions of years they’re not too sure if they think it’s 75 billion last I heard it’s been watch this most most watched video on TH-cam
Angelina 9 yo. Look at her! She controls the entire recording. She has the power and ability to carry this out. The fact that she then has an outstanding fantastic voice and theatrical body language only makes everything even better. The musicians are also amazingly good. They give everything to complete this masterpiece! This little Norwegian girl reads the English lyrics while singing! She is from Norway and they speak Norwegian there. English is Angelina's 3rd language! Already at 5-6 years old, she understands exactly what is meant in the lyrics! Incredible!
A genius at work. I am so happy for everything she gives me. / a Swedish Viking.
Peter she is special. Singing like that at this age with that much musicianship is mind blowing.
I get chills every time... Thanks for the Reaction Bud.
Thanks Jonathan!
Angelina started doing her own arrangements when she was 8 including this one
Wow!
She is the best.
Absolutely phenomenal rendition from a musical prodigy, Angelina was 9 years old with this amazing performance pay tribute to the original artist Screaming J Hawkins a blues musician in the 1950s, also it’s amazing Angelina actually arranges this her she is commanding the performance she is the boss, Angelina always arranges her songs herself, Angelina takes a classic song and makes it her own, still plays tribute to the original artist, Angelina can sing any genre, great reaction thanks 🙏
Thanks Christopher, I appreciate the kind words and info!
Mind blowing, for sure. She started started singing at 18 months. At five she was working hard but stated her toy guitar was no good. At six she she told the shoeless girl, she befriended and gave her shoes to, that she wanted to be a superstar and sing for the world. At seven she was finally old enough to enter Norway’s Got Talent, which se won. She has stated that if there was no Billy Holiday there would not be an Angelina. What I know, with out question is that she is a healing voice for the world. Thank you, it was a wonderful reaction. ❤
Thanks Tom!
Thanks so much. Love Angelina Angelina and your reaction 💖🙏
Thanks Stella! Wow she is special. I’m really enjoying what she can do.
9yrs 2 mo
Wow
Talent beyond comprehension. Started on this journey by the time she was 1 1/2 years old, recorded singing Whitney Houston in her crib. When she was 3 she informed her mother that she was going to sing for "that Simon guy". The die was cast.
By this age, 9, she had recorded Etta, Billie, Ella and many more of the jazz masters. All are spectacular performances. A year from this performance, all traces of childhood disappear from her voice and she performs with complete mastery.
This little no, Region girl is fantastic. I know why they call her the national treasure of the jazz singer.
Id hand her the back catologue of "Buena Vista Social Club." then let nature take its course🙂
Thanks Stuart!
Thanks Bob for getting to this epic masterpiece of music genius by this little girl of 9 years old. She has been singing since she was a baby of one and a half (started with Whitney Houston) and thanks to her Grandma Mery, Iranian poet/artist, who exposed her to all the great jazz singers of the past, she fell in love with Billy Holiday at a very young age, this young girl has jazz infused into that tiny little body. She has studied music at a school in Norway but vocal coaches decided best to leave that voice alone, she is a natural born vocalist. Have seen other vocal coaches/music teachers that have viewed this cover and one proclaimed that this should be studied in music courses when discussing "child" singers. This is not the voice of a child, already well seasoned with all the intricacies and nuances and techniques, you name it. Angelina listened to and studied this original 1956 classic from Screamin Jay Hawkins and decided on how she wanted it arranged, much closer to the original than any other covers that have been done by other artists. To get a feel for what she did here I suggest you listen to Screamin Jay's original....pretty wild but he was quite talented. Always nice to see you do reactions with Angelina, not very often but still enjoy. Cheers, stay well Bob.🥰🥰
Thanks Carl for the kind words.I try to get to as many but with working full time as a band teacher there’s just not enough time. Hopefully in the future I’ll get more done. Summer for sure.
"I PUT A SPELL ON YOU" Over 10M views on TH-cam. She was recording this at 8 years old and it was published when she was 9 years, 2 months.
Jalacy “Screamin’ Jay” Hawkins is on the Candle. Angelina arranged this at 8 and recorded this at 9. She hands over additional notes, which is then passed on to conductor. He smiles and nods. She has included All the nuances of the original, and of no other artist. How, at 9yrs 2mos, she can get as low as F3, is preposterous! This was first written/composed, then recorded, in 1955. His 1956 recording was selected as one of the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame's “500 Songs that Shaped Rock and Roll.” This is the recording which Angelina covered!
I saw him perform this Live, on American Bandstand. The Link is as follows: 🌺 m.th-cam.com/video/7kGPhpvqtOc/w-d-xo.html
Alright I put it on the list. Thanks!
She leaves me feeling and thinking she's a savant. So ahead of her time....and exactly what is her time? We may never know.
The one…the only…Angelina Jordan. Simply the best singer I’ve ever heard, and I’ve listened to music for 70+ years. I’ve wondered when you’d finally do another Angelina song. You’ve been blown away by the little you’ve heard, but you have literally barely scratched the surface. Not only can Angelina sing like no one you’ve heard before, but she brings the authenticity you just heard to five or six different genres. And now, at 17, her vocal tools are phenomenal, and her voice is mesmerizing.
Yes, she has studied the greats, and you’ll hear her pay tribute to them in her singing, but everything you’ll hear will be uniquely Angelina-just like you heard today. Jazz and blues are where she started, and they’re in her bones, but her voice is just amazingly flexible. If you want to see what a bottomless vocal toolkit Angelina has, try her cover of Adele’s Easy on Me. I guarantee you’ll like it even better than Adele’s amazing original. th-cam.com/video/Mpw5Q76hWWE/w-d-xo.html

Sir, just for your amusement and information, those musicians coined a nickname for her that sticks to this very day. It is ment adoringly....THE BOSS.

Thank you for featuring Angelina again. I hope you will do many more reactions to her, as she is well worth every nanosecond you spend on her. I have watched and listened to her in awe since she released her first video on TH-cam, and what has been evident to me from the start is that she sings with total conviction, despite the fact that she is far too young to have experienced the events suggested in the lyrics of the song she has chosen to sing. But it is not only that, for strange as it may seem is the even more remarkable fact that she can convey the appropriate emotions within those lyrics to her listener.
Angelina was 9 years and 2 months old when she performed this song. It is her tribute to Screamin' Jay Hawkins, who wrote and performed the song in 1956 (50 years before Angelina was born). She based her arrangement on his original performance, although she discarded all the theatrics and allowed her voice and body language to tell the story. The song has been covered by many singers over the years, but to my knowledge, Angelina is the only one who has sung in the same style as the original.
There are many things I found particularly worthy of note in this video. Some I recognised immediately and those I missed were brought to my attention by the more observant Angelina fans (her Angels) and I thank them for letting me know what I had missed. Another Angelina "Angel" has pointed out something else which I had missed, and it is added at (l) below,
(a) Angelina finishing writing last minute changes she wanted and handing them to the Music Director, who smiled.
(b) A brief glimpse of Mery Zamani, Angelina's maternal grandmother, a well known and respected Iranian Artist and poet who was also a child prodigy. She was the person who recognised Angelina's talent at an early age and exposed her to all the old time jazz singers.
(c) The candle with an image of Screamin' Jay Hawkins on it.
(d) The smile on the face of the Bass player.
(e) How she rose on to her toes on the last occasion she sang "...because you're mine"
(f) The fact she occasionally refers to her written notes on the music stand. Possibly to remind herself of the last minute changes she wanted.
(g) Her unwavering passion throughout the performance. Evidenced by her facial expressions and the way she uses her hands and body to emphasise the direction of the song.
(h) The way she takes a breath just before she starts the last phrase (I don't care.....) and that breath lasts the whole of that sustained note. A child of that age should not have the ability to hold a note for that length of time.
(i) At the end, when she sings I Doooont Caaaaare, she employs TWO separate and distinct vibratos to the word care, a wide one to start the word and a tighter one to close the word
(j) The instant transformation from "performance" mode to that of a pensive child, possibly wondering whether she could have done better. I comment on the "pensive" child because Angelina has an incredible work ethic and seeks to perform every song in a way she considers will bring out all the emotions within the lyrics and melody.
(k) Perhaps the most remarkable is that despite her tender years, she sings with such total conviction that her authenticity is never in doubt. It is easy to believe that she has experienced the events described in the lyrics. It is not only her voice that is mesmerising, it is also her facial expressions, and the way she uses her hands and body. Her stage presence is electrifying.
(l) The performance absolutely is powerful and raw but to me, I am amazed that this is balanced by the profound beauty of the ending phrase; the last twelve words of the song. AND… they are essentially sung a cappella!
Angelina has been referred to as the "Queen of Jazz", "The Barefoot Princess", "The girl with a thousand voices". All of them are true, but I prefer the nickname I gave her after listening to about six of her performances. For me, she is "The Chameleon of Song", for as a chameleon is able to change its colour to match its surroundings, so Angelina is able to change the "colour" of her voice to accurately match the needs of the song to reveal the emotions within the lyrics and melody. Even more remarkable is her innate ability to communicate those same emotions to her listeners.
Thanks Albert for thr great info!
She was 9 years old here. The original is by Jalacy 'Screamin Jay' Hawkins in 1956. That's his picture on the candle she is holding at the beginning.
You also see her making a last minute adjustment on the arrangement.
Thanks Chris!
@@bobcieslinski There is another young singer who was creating a stir in Europe and Asia and even in America. This girl chose another path to sing down. I speaking of the young Kazakh Daneliya Tuleshova. While Daneliya always wanted to be a Pop star, her voice is versatile enough to sing most any singing style. While Angelina's genius is evident as to it's scope, Daneliya's is in the nuance she brings to bare on a song. Her easy manner of singing can sometimes cover the little things she does instinctively that affects the way a song may be perceived. I am giving you her blind audition for the Voice Kids Ukraine 2017. Daneliya's audition she sang Demi Lovato's,, 'Stone Cold' which went viral and has been viewed over 81 million times. Then things went differently than most times, as the judges had her sing a whole new song as an encore. Usually the singer is asked to sing the ending chorus the song they just sang. Not here and Daneliya sang a popular Ukrainian song 'Tree My' which she sings in Ukrainian which has the judges excited. The whole audition is 10:30 long and I hope you watch the whole thing as the things the judges say leaves Daneliya's mom on the edge of fainting and Daneliya shaking her head in disbelief. The video I selected has all Subtitles in English.

Angelina has occasionally had contact with singing teachers. But not so much to change her self-taught way of singing, but more to learn how to protect her amazing voice. Angelina, 4-5 yo, attended Oslo School of Music and Performing Arts after-school program, She learned to play piano, guitar etc. She has also learned to arrange music etc. She started singing when she was very young! Since then, she has trained an incredible amount. I have heard that she practiced several hours a day, already at the age of 4-5.
Thanks Peter!
We need more reactors with your credentials and appreciation of real talent, which you obviously see in Angelina. She makes my every day, once I finish with work, and renew my acquaintance with her beautiful voice and person. There are some really amazing singers out there today, especially from Norway. But no one has captured my heart like this young lady. Thanks, please do more.
Thanks so much Henry. You made my day! She is special and I really love what she can do.
Sir, you may have seen her writing in the beginning. That was her arrangement for the whole thing. She gave it to the studio boss with the words: "This are my wishes Sir." When the Treasure of Norway wishes something, she gets it. At this point in time her sense and instinct for music was already legendary in Scandinavia. Always polite and friendly, everybody knew, she was right.
Be safe and sound sir.
Elmar from Germany
Thanks for the info Elmar! She is a treasure.
Yay Bob!! So glad you reacted to this one. I knew you would be blown away. As I said before, she's grown into a great artist, but I just love her young performances so much. If you want to check out any other young performances, you should hear; Bang Bang, It's A Man's World, & What A Difference A Day Makes. 😊

Thanks Mayra! Man this was so incredible. Such a talent.
Thanks DJ!
9 years, 2 months old! After winning Norway's Got Talent at age 8, Angelina was already a professional by this age. Yes, she grew up listening, studying, and emulating all of the jazz greats, and it shows. And, her lessons in music theory, piano, flute and violin (but not singing), helped her arrange this iconic song from Screamin' Jay Hawkins written and performed by him in 1956. You can see her pass her last-minute changes to the band leader. She had worked with this band before and they gave her much respect.
I’m telling you John she is something. I’ve been nothing but impressed by what she can do at this young age. It sure blows thr mind.
She was 8. Won Norway's Got Talent at 7. Started singing at 1.5 years. She is 17 now. Debut album drops after she graduates high school this year. Her band has been with her forever. She is an ANCIENT soul. She has an empathic magic that reaches into you and touches your soul.
Thanks Jon!
Yes, really hard to take in what you hear coming from her at that age! 😃 Besides that I really like the musicians playing and the arrangement!
Hi Petra! Yeah they were all so amazing. She blows my mind at this age. So special.
Thanks for this one, Bob. You were spot on with your assessments - yes, by this age (9 yr, 2 mo) she had spent many, many hours honing her skills and, since the age of 2, she had been listening to and studying all the jazz greats from past generations. Apart from her vocal skills she has a great ear and the ability to dial in a variety of vocal traits from singers she admires and loves so much. You will notice some jazz influences in most of AJ's performances. Angelina is at her best when performing live, in front of an audience.
Thanks Mike!
Lovely voice!
Thanks for the new video! That was a great song and Angelina's voice is so mature for her age!
Thanks she sure is.
If you want to hear her cover Etta listen to AJ sing I'd Rather Go Blind where she testing out her brand new microphone she just got for 12th birthday.
Thanks Jeffery!
Bob, thank you for the wonderful and aware reaction, this song is one of the important steps to understand the singularity of Angelina's talent. It's unreal like her, from a very young person, she choice to use her incredible passion and understanding through music in a splendid way, especially for these legendary songs. She is definitely the only 9-year-old girl who understands and has the courage and the ability to sing this song from Screaming' Jay, so imbued with his power, and reorganize it according to her musical sensibility and vision. 💛🧡❤
Hi Claudio! Thanks for the kind words. Wow she really blew me away. Such a special talent.
Great Reaction Man, Welcome aboard the AJ train
Thanks so much Primordialsimilarity!
This will go down in history as the greatest performance ever by a 9 year old.
9 years 2 months and does her own arrangements. A Masterpiece by a GENIUS!.
Agreed
Angelina is a seasoned pro now as she seemed to be one at age 9. She opened for Norah Jones when she was 11 and was invited by Quincy Jones to open his 85th birthday celebration in London when she was 12. He called her the most talented singer since Michael Jackson ( I think she is better at this point). She performed Quincy Jones arrangement of “Fly Me to the Moon” that he did for Frank Sinatra and the Count Basie Band. Look up the rehearsal of this and be blown away!
So awesome and excited to see more. The grit in her voice is p
Beautiful. I really love this song and think you should check out The Teskey Brothers, Rain (live) or really anything they do.
You said that she must have known what she wanted to be from a very young age (I'm paraphrasing slightly). To that I would say, "Yes and no". "Yes", because I think she had an answer to the question "What do you want to be when you grow up?" before she was old enough to even understand the question itself. But "no", because I would say it a little differently: I think she *discovered what she was* at a very young age, not just what she wanted to be. Many people have used the phrase "born to sing" when reacting to her (including judges on both _Norway's Got Talent_ when she was 7 and _America's Got Talent_ when she was 13). I have to say, as someone who would strongly resist any "supernatural" interpretation of that phrase, it does actually appear to be true, somehow, in this case.😳
I'm sure several people have told you that she started singing at 1½, but I don't know if anyone has gone into any level of detail about what that means, exactly. (I'm assuming you have not yet seen the clip of her doing that, even though people have surely already linked to it in comments. When you do watch it - preferably after her "Gloomy Sunday" audition on NGT, a clip of which is in the same video - I highly recommend that you do so on-camera.😁) To be clear, Angelina was not merely "trying to sing" at that age, she was _really_ singing - i.e., getting pretty damned close to singing the right words and the right melody. And this was not a "kiddie song" she was singing, like "Head, Shoulders, Knees and Toes" or "The Wheels on the Bus". She was singing the title line of "I Will Always Love You" to the music of Whitney Houston's version of that song. _Really_ impressive, given her age. But what amazes me the most about the clip is when she throws her head back and closes her eyes, just briefly, as she sings the line a second time. She really seems to be singing it "with feeling". Who does that at 1½?? That moment, more than almost any other single thing, makes me think that she was not just "born to sing", she was "born a singer". It just took her 18 months to get to the point where she could reveal that fact.
I think if u watch a lot of her videos she did in her home studio with her friends in one take, just learning the words from her phone, you can see,
She can do this kind of fantastic performance on the fly.
