    Actually they both run about a $1 per foot for the product., but with chain link you have all the accessories to factor in (metal posts, caps, tension bands etc...)

    the RSPCA suggests Here are a few suggestions to prevent your dog even being able to jump the fence.
    Use PVC plastic piping or large rubber tubes, at least 5 to 6 inches in diameter, cut lengthwise down the centre. Place them along the top of your fence. This makes a curved, slippery surface that a dog cannot get a grip on to get over the top of the fence.
    Erect a shorter, interior fence two or three feet from the outside fence, preventing him from getting a running start

    On the fence stretcher... Did you bolted the 2x4s sandwiched the fence? Or the chain came through the fence around the stretcher and then you made the stretched, top and bottom ?

    Whats the best way for maintaining the grass around the fence? I’m looking at spraying due to using a weedeater would go through line like crazy cutting around the fence.

    In the beginning of the video: The man says he selected 48 inch Red Brand Yard Garden and Kennel which is a 16 gauge fence. Chainlink fence for a yard from a professional installer is 11 gauge, which is a lot stronger fence. The larger the number the smaller the strand of wires, similar to shot gun shells or electrical wiring. The type of fence this guy built is beautifully built. They did an excelltent job. However this fence would cost much, much more than a chain link fence and less durable.

  • @clarissab2010

    I think the reason it would be better to use this fencing would be because some dogs can easily tear chain link apart if they're determined to escape. This wiring is s lot tougher. I bought a stupid ready made kennel at home depot as a desperate alternative to stop having my dog tied up but they very same night we put him in it, he tore up the chain link on the kennel door and was out the yard by the morning.

  • @lissagromley2741
    @lissagromley2741 9 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    This might work for some dogs, but there are other dogs who will tear up that mesh fence and chew through those wood posts and may even dig their way out. Some will even leap over the fence itself. I would say anyone who builds this type of fence needs to keep in mind what their dog is capable of. If this works for your dog, that's terrific. You may even find you need to make a few slight adjustments. All in all, this was a good video, and it's inspiring.

      Those dogs need training, not a fence.

    • @lissagromley2741
      @lissagromley2741 8 ปีที่แล้ว +5

      I agree that dogs do need training, but a fence is still good to have. Even if the dogs were trained, another untrained dog that doesn't belong can come into the property and cause problems for the dogs that live there, even harm them.

    • @psychocabbage
      @psychocabbage 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Actually you cant untrain certain features like excessive prey drive. We have high prey drive dogs and no matter what you think about training, if a prey animal gets in their sights, they will try what they can to get to it. Our greyhound and whippet are making our fence of choice a 5-6ft tall no climb just for the cost and security it can bring them.

    I have bought the 72inch high kennel fence mesh. I'm wondering about the fencing posts. Would I need struts and strainer posts at the corners? It looks like you didn't use any here but then it is a lower fence.

    • @RedBrandAgFence
      @RedBrandAgFence  10 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      If you are cementing the corner posts you should be just fine.

  • @GotAnUmbrella
    @GotAnUmbrella 12 ปีที่แล้ว

    Plant shrubs a couple feet from the inside of the fence, again breaking that running start.
    Place "cat netting" along the fence at an angle so that your dog cannot get a foothold on the fence."

    OK, I HAVE LOOKED AT THE FIRST VIDEO, AND THE MATH DOESN'T ADD UP, HOW HIGH ARE THE 4X4 POST ABOVE THE GROUND, BECAUSE IF I GO LIKE YOU SAID IN THE FIRST VIDEO 52 INCHES IT WILL LEAVE A 5 1/2 IN GAP TO THE TOP OF THE 2X4 MEANING I WOULD HAVE TO STAPLE THE WIRE TO THE BOTTOM OF THE 1X6 BOARD. KIND OF CONFUSING.

      robopam
      Either fencing contractors are very cheap in your area or lumber is very expensive. Total materials is around $400-$500 by my estimate, that isn't bad at all for a 96' run of solid fencing. A contractor would likely start at ~$1500 for chain link.
      On the cheap one could cover twice the area for what they spent making it attractive while still creating a good area for a dog. Perhaps better, the solid flat top bar is going to make it easy for a jumper to hop over. My dog would be over the very second she saw someone who might pet her or a woodchuck.
      Digging holes sucks and contractors make a living saving property owners the trouble of doing it.

  • @GotAnUmbrella

    "Get a taller fence. He can't jump over what he can't jump over something thats too tall.
    Remove any objects he can use to boost himself over. Youd be surprised how sharp dogs can be. This means, remove any Garbage cans, tables or other aids to getting over the fence. A grill might be enough to get him up and over, so place this strategically. If your dog uses the shed or stack of firewood, coat these with cayenne pepper, bitter apple, or other aversive substances dogs dislike.

    I know that you had good intentions of showing how your fence product could be used to make a fence for a dog. But with the way you constructed it, your fence would be more expensive than a chain link fence. At the very end instead of building a wooden gate and covering it with you Red Brand wire, you chose to hang a chain link gat on it. It would have been a cheaper and mor efficient dog pen to use chain link on the whole project.
