Haha, why am I not surprised your motivation is a husky? That's the same reason I'm having to build a fence, too! My sweet lab would never consider destroying my garden, but the husky makes it her life's mission.

Great video! However, the correct tool for part of this task is wire cutters instead of tin snips. Using tin snips in this manner is akin to using your mother's pinking shears to cut paper.

A cheaper alternative is 2x4 on one side and 1x4 on the other
I was wondering if it could be made with 1x's.. It should still be sturdy enough, right?
@@Watergirl_83 It all depends on the individual needs of someone.
These panels are less likely to bend and or break with a larger animal or person trying to get in.
Lighter materials, thinner wood will still be strong enough for many people's needs.

What would you use as a post to connect them together as a fence ? Not a boxed cage.. Awesome video!
If you check out my dog pen tour vid you can see that I went 16x16 or 2 panels. I'm on bedrock so I attached them together and backbraced the joint. Corners were plenty sturdy. I was able to cement the posts on either side of the gate. If you were to make an actual fence with longer runs I would definitely recommend setting posts between each panel. A little tip if you do that, set your posts first then build the panels to the distance between posts. Way easier to build a half inch shorter or whatever than to get the posts exactly 8' apart. If it works for a husky, that's a pretty good test.

This is exactly what I want to do to fence in my back yard for my dog. What is the gauge of the fencing? 14?
Yes, it's 14 gauge. You can pick it up at any home centre. It's been holding up perfectly so far. Make sure and check out my dog pen tour I built with these panels for a few tips.

How do you connect the panels? I love the idea but I would need to make a run bigger than this with lots of panels side by side how would I connect them ?
They sell brackets at hardware store ...can choose hinged or flat

Is it possible to build larger panels or would that make it not sturdy? Also could I make length posts longer to post them underground?
You could essentially make the panels any size you want, but they would get much harder to manage if they were much bigger. If you're using posts I would dig and set them in the ground at your desired spacing/locations and then build the panels to the exact size of the space between posts. Easier in my opinion than building them and trying to set posts to match. Check out my completed pen tour for more tips!

i want to do this. can you please explain how you would use these panels to make a fence that has posts that goes into the ground please
You would do it the same way as a normal wooden fence, but I would install the posts first, keeping the spacing under 8’ then build the panels to the exact measurements between the posts. They’ll all be a little different. Hope this helps! Good luck!

What was the price per panel
Depends where you live and what the price of lumber is at the time. Basically the cost of six 2x4's, 1 10th of a 100' roll of wire, and a few screws and staples. A quick call to your local lumber yard or home centre will get yo the info you need. Hope this helps.

What about a door?
The box at the end was just to show a few quick ideas of what you could do with the panels. It wasn't a finished cage. The same style of panel can be made any size and with the addition of a cross brace could be used as a gate/door. Thanks for the comment!

The measurements don't add up
Sure they do, the pieces overlap. Lumber is 3 1/2 wide x 2 is 7. 41+7=48 89+7=96. The panel is 48x96.

kind of defeats the purpose of the diy hog wire fence though, because that is not at all costs effective. It was a good video though
