I was working for a talk-radio station, located on Golden Gate Avenue, around the corner from Civic Center/City Hall. The afternoon that the verdict and sentencing for Dan White was announced our General Manager was hosting a staff party in his office. Someone from the news room came in to tell us that there was enormous anger in the Castro District, and there was a walk to City Hall to protest. The General Manager stopped the party, and ordered everyone who did NOT have an on-air shift to GO HOME! "This could get ugly." He was right. They rioted well into the night, burning police cars, and surrounding properties. My recollection is that Dan White did not serve time in prison ... but in a state mental facility in Napa County. It was a bleak chapter in our city history. I enjoyed your tour of City Hall. It is indeed a beautiful building. It suffered some serious damage in the 1989 "Loma Prieta" earthquake. When Willie Brown was Mayor, he ordered a wide sweeping renovation, and made it the stunning building that it is today.
No doubt this was a tragic event. By all accounts George Moscone was an honorable man. What is equally tragic was Harvey Milk being known for having sexual relationships with teenagers. One of these boys was a 16 year old runaway, Jack McKinley, who killed himself after Milk ended the affair.
Robert, City Hall is really beautiful, I remember the movie. Excellent stream enjoyed this very much!👏🏾👏🏾👏🏾👏🏾
I'm glad you enjoyed it Jas!

Thanks for the info Caty :)
That must have been KGO. The days of Jim Dunbar, Ted Wygant, and other radio greats.
Beautiful, even poetic exposé of some sad and textured times in our treasured city.
You have quite a literary voice in this regard.

@@RebekahCurielAlessi thanks you 😊

@@jonathanalaniz946 Moscone also had his issues ... he was tightly linked to Jim Jones of the People's Temple.
