Thanks so much for this video. I tried it on my SX230 and it works like a charm!!! I was looking at sending it in for service, but they wanted $150 just to look at it, and ebay replacement lens was $65!!! This really helped! Only thing - I noticed when I snapped the lens back on, it took a bit of force. I ended bending the soft aluminum cover a little and this prevented the lens cover from closing. I took a small flat screwdriver to unbend the cover and it was good as new. Gotta love youtube!
Had a large (1.5mm) oily spot on the backside of a SX130 ....was able to remove the front element exactly as shown in this video. It seemed that pinching the sides of the lens barrel a little helped in removing the element but this could very well be just my imagination. Replacing the front element after cleaning as straightforward, it seems to be easier if you get one side set first and then work the opposite side down rather than trying to snap it back on in one stage. Thanks to furulevi for this video, I was about to consign this camera to the trash as the spot was ruining any photo with even a moderately bright light source in frame
Thank you so much! . Worked with a canon 230 sx that i had just pucrhased on ebay. . I was very careful and lined it up precisely before trying to push it back. If you are gentle you will feel the sweet spot.Hang on to the barrel so the force you are applying doesn't push all parts of the barrel back into the camera (If it does..I put in the battery and brought it out to full length again and tried again ..with MORE precision.
It worked for me. I freaked out at first too, because I couldn't put it back but I guess you just have to find its sweet spot. I also had to apply quite some pressure to make it go back in.
Worked for wife's SX230 - Had really tough time getting it to "snap" back into place. As described Canon to the Top, Hold Base of Extended Barrel between fingers and set the bottom in first, the gently, but firmly snap the top in place. Caution: If the barrel slips even a millimeter while you're doing this, it's a fail and you have to start over. It took me almost an hour to finagle it correctly, but I was successful.
We had one since new, like 11 years old. About 7 years ago my sister took it on holiday to the Australian outback and that sht-hole eats electronics for breakfast. It came back full of dust inside and I drawered it. Now I'll give it a quick clean inside and recommission it. Thanks!! I always appreciated the color reproduction of it and I was sorry to see it in a drawer.
NOT a good idea!!! There were a few specs of dust on the backside of my SX230 HS lens. So I thought I'd give this method a try. The lens came off without any problem. Cleaned it with optical fluid and a microfiber cloth (NOT a qtip that makes scratches and leaves tiny cotton fabric on the lens). THEN, when I wanted to put the segment back in place, it didn't "click". It didn't want to get in place somehow. Yes, I made sure that the text on the cap was alligned with the body. Tried several times over and over again, pushing softly, gently, a bit harder, hard and CRACK. Now one of the three shiny metal pins has broken off! Didn't take much pressure at all! R.I.P. my favourite compact camera :'-(
+Godmiljaardedju I just did it with my SX230 HS. It was extremely difficult to get the lens back on. Took me about 2 hours of effort. I don't recommend anyone with an sx230 try this. You're just as likely to break it as fix it. Someone mentioned that it may be possible to use compressed air to move the dust off the lens without taking it apart.
Seriously large thanks for this, I thought my 260hs was a write off due to it getting dusty and ruining shots. I had viewed how to disassemble videos and it is way beyond my capabilities. May have a go at my aunties that has sand in the lens mechanism too, she was told by the camera shop to just buy a new one as it will be cheaper. Muchos gracias once more senore.
It helps. But be very cautious while putting it back because if you put it wrong the very first time the Lens won’t zoom in and you won’t be able to remove it again.
first mistake, never ever clean a sensitive glass lens without first using an air blower (pressurized or rocket type) to remove any large particles that will scratch the sensor or lens. secondly a qtip is not meant to clean treated camera lenses and should never be used bone dry if that's all you have, use distilled water and squeeze off any excess before destroying..er cleaning your lens (also cleaning incorrectly you should never go side to side across the grain of the polish on the lens, lenses are machined in a circular motion, usually clockwise you should be cleaning it that way, not like cleaning your eyeglasses.) if you must clean a lens use a lens cloth (new, not used) I cringed to see him also after "cleaning" the lens going back to the sensor to "clean" it too (if the lens was dirty as you claim why wouldn't you use a new qtip to clean the sensor, you just transferred the dirt to the sensor now lol or worse) but biggest mistake is taking apart the lens assembly in the first place, you just voided any warranty on your device the moment you took the front element off. sorry for those who followed this advice and ended up destroying their equipment..
+Magdiel Crisan The sensor is inside, it can't be cleaned from this location, plus it is much more complicated to reach to it. Dust can be on the other inner lens also.
Apart easy enough with some force but after a lot of effort to snap the lens back on I get the lens error. Any tricks to putting the lens back on. Any part twist or just force. Of course the lens cover came unglued making alignment even more of a challenge
Hello I followed exactly the correct procedure on two SX210 IS . Very effective for the dust … but absolutely impossible to put the lens back in place on the two cameras ! Also I respected the parts alignment and applied at last a lot of force without any success after one hour of various attempts (slightly twisting and tilting when pushing etc.). Very disappointed because these 2 cameras where in excellent condition (except the dust in the lens). Do you have an idea to solve this issue ?? Thank you in advance for your assistance !
The last lens element which was taken off, has 3 metal "claws" (at least the SX220 has them). Those claws have to enter into a cut inside the plastic of the lens. The top plastic layer is stationary, the lower layer is rotating when zooming in/out. Both layers have a cut in them for the claw. These layer have to be aligned so that the claw can be introduced! Zoom in to the max and try to align it even manually a just a tiny amount.
OK, so this is a great video, except for the reinstallation of the lens. After more time and frustration than I would wish on anyone, I used a gripper pad on the middle barrel of the lens and lifted the camera off of the table. With the camera off of the table and a firm grip on the lens and not the camera body the lens does not retract into the body. This arrangement also allowed me to get just the right twist/angle on the outermost lens to get it to snap in place. Again, this is a great video, but it can be VERY difficult to reinstall the lens, especially for an engineer that follows instructions. :-)
Hi , is it possible to add or change lenses for this camera ? like adding a 50mm lens or a zoom lens or other kind of lenses that are used with modern cameras like canon 700d or others thanx :3
This is a fixed lens camera, not an interchangeable one, so in my opinion lens could be added only if you make some adaptations to it, officially you can't add anything.
It was extremely helpful for me. I have a Canon Powershot SX 200 camera. I guess it has gathered fungus on its lens and it appears as circular in shape, on all sides of the lens. The camera is working fine but the viewfinder shows these marks and the pictures also do the same. Please help me I cannot go to any camera shop because Covid situation and my age is vulnerable ( 75+). I would remain highly grateful if you suggest some home remedy for me.
Hi! I just followed your video in order to clean the lens of my camera but I'm having a hard time with putting it back. How much strength do you have to put in it? Is there a trick? It looks so simple in the video...
It need around the same amount of force to place it back as it was needed to take it off. Position the last element correctly, with the "canon zoom lens 14x is" text up, than push one side first, than the other. Gently, don't break it :)
furulevi Just broke it :( It got in ok, but when I put the battery back in and switched it on, it became crooked and wouldn't go in or out. I had to pull it out and then it broke. One of the pin supports is broken and another is loose. I tried to get the pins into the remaining supports but it just does not fit in the camera in that way... The worst is that I looked at the LCD without the outer lens and the dust spot is still there, so it must be in the sensor. Thank you nevertheless.
nunop Sorry about that... My camera also had some highly visible particles, but somehow it disappeared. It had to be somewhere inside closer to the sensor as you mentioned. The dust on the last lens element is mostly visible on the footage only when bright light is in front of the camera. My lens are coming off much easier after I cleaned it a few times.
nunop This was my particle which was somewhere near the sensor or another lens deeper inside: Disadvantage of Digital Image Stabilization (Dirt particle)
@@furulevi the external covering of my lens broke off a year ago, so now that I have it off and cleaned, I can't tell which side is the top side. Is there anything on the inside to guide me, or do you have any other suggestions? I have put it in and felt the grooves 'connect' in all 3 positions, but cannot get it to insert and lock.
Before pressing the lens back into place wouldn't it be safer to first replace the battery and power down the camera so the entire zoom lens retracts back into the parked position?
+furulevi That makes perfect sense. I can see you've done your homework. As I mentioned to Gabriel (below) I tried this on a Powershot SX280HS and the lens collar pulled off, dumping the lens cover pieces. I have to go ahead and ask anyway, do you think this technique should work on the SX280 HS with its 20x optical zoom?
+Gabriel Naranjo I tried this on the SX280 HS. The lens stayed on, but I accidentally pulled the collar off of it, along with half of the lens cover leaves. Very tedious job reassembling the lens cover.
Mindenképp egyszerűbb, mint a Canon márkaszervizbe hurcolászni és 12.000-ért tisztíttatni :D Főleg, hogy folyton telemegy. Mondjuk nekem SX200-asom van, de mindjárt ki is próbálom.

I don't know, I've watched a half dozen people this morning claim that banging their digital camera on something hard, can fix this, and all sorts of other problems. Good luck folks!
Don't do it . The lens element doesn't go back on and the zoom lens system is all out of sync . There's a special location where the end section lugs unclip easily , and it's not at max zoom !
I try, dissassembly was easy, could not push it back, and even more. as the position moved I put the battery back and set to max position. But after trying and trying thing went worse. Now I can only try a complete disassembly, or put it to garbage. I won't recommend this video.

can u make a videos on how to completely remove this cameras lens
