  • The anticipation of meeting the competition is broken when the 24 elite Spartan Games Athletes arrive in Vermont. New friendships, and old rivalries, take root as the athletes size each other up and prepare for day one’s events. A thrown bucket becomes a powder keg during Spartan Cross, the athletes freeze in the open water swim, and torrential rain unloads during Spartan Highlands Games. Through the unpredictable conditions and the controversial twists, the Spartan Games Athletes do what they do best: compete at the highest level.
    DAY ONE EVENTS:
    - Spartan Cross: A new Spartan obstacle course event featuring 5k of running and 54 obstacles
    - XTERRA Open Water Swim: 45-minute open water swim on a 200m loop in near freezing water
    - Spartan Highland Games: Three events in one - single-elimination tug-of-war, Spartan Stones and Keiser Sled Challenge
    ---
    Spartan Games: Battle of the Fittest
    Twenty four elite athletes - OCR champions, Olympians, NFL pros, triathletes, world champion crossfitters and more - descend on the mountains of Vermont to compete for $100,000. Over four days, they battle in ten grueling physical and mental challenges: obstacle course races, open-water swim, mountain biking, Spartan highland games, functional fitness competitions, ultra marathon, combat sports and more. Every athlete will be tested. Every athlete will be ripped out of their comfort zone. But only one will be The Fittest.
    Presented by Harley-Davidson.
    Disclaimer: The Spartan Games were a closed competition and all participating Athletes were by invite only. Spartan staff and personnel were limited to those individuals necessary to produce and operate the event. Prior to arriving at the event location, all individuals on-site and present for the competition (including all Athletes and Spartan staff) were required to submit two (2) negative COVID-19 test results: one (1) PCR test within seven days prior to arrival, and one (1) Rapid test within 12 hours prior to arrival. No spectators or other third-parties were allowed on-site during the competition, and no re-entry was permitted.

      It would be better if they did a crossfit games type video where you see all the athletes involved for the full duration of each event. It would also be nice if they showed the placement within each event instead of just showing how the leader board changes as the result of the events.

    So great to see Ryan and Lindsay excelling across so many disciplines. They’re athleticism and class blows my mind. Whenever I see them at races they are kind and such good sports. I remember Ryan leading at Toughest Mudder Whistler at like 4 in the morning stopping to help a whole group of people through Block-ness Monster. He just lifts people up around him without any drama.

    The random seeding for the 1v1 single elimination events sort of completely invalidates the point structure. If you happen to get the #1 as your opponent, you can get 0 points when you potentially could be #2 and get 18. And 18 points is a massive swing completely due to RNG.

    • @Finnspin_unicycles
      @Finnspin_unicycles 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Yeah, really not really ideal. I understand the time issues involved, but if you want a sport to be taken seriously (and if you put 100 grand in price money into it, I think you do want that), it has to be less luck based.

    • @MartinPerrierCoaching
      @MartinPerrierCoaching 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      That's true and less than ideal indeed, but the impact is actually lower than that because this was only one part of a 3-part Strength game (adding the rocks and the hammer challenges), and the ranking points were awarded only for the 3 workouts combined (i.e. if you were to win both the rocks and hammer workouts, you could potentially still win the 25 pts even with a direct elimination in ToW). ;)

    The editing on this episode is horrible. It’s like watching a music video that makes no sense. No idea of what’s happening or any actual competition. Just a cut of someone running then a quick cut to a sled then someone climbing a rope and back to running. What even is this. If all they do is just display a leaderboard and call that the episode it would be. Ether than what was shown here.

      @@christopherturner8334 I get the mental aspect part, but I also don't think any athlete should be allowed to physically impede another athlete's performance like that. He shouldn't have retaliated, but you should not be allowed to intentionally slap another athlete in competition. If they allow that incident, then what else can he be allowed to do in other events?

    • @christopherturner8334
      @christopherturner8334 3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      @@meghanjansen6941 a very valid point and I'm definitely not saying that I would be outraged if they are penalised, however I do believe if you want to find the fittest, you should be able to take a slap every now and again. This was obviously intentional, sometimes you get a slap during a race that isn't intentional, but during any competition you get people like this that will try to rattle you. Lose because you wasn't good enough, don't blame it on others

    • @Finnspin_unicycles
      @Finnspin_unicycles 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@christopherturner8334 Yes, you should be able to take a slap now and then. But I think that is exactly the reason why both should get a penalty. Aaron for not being able to take that slap, and Hunter for clearly stepping out of what is sportsmanlike behavior. Otherwise you open up a whole gray area by making it hard to draw the line between what contact is allowed or not allowed in obstacle racing.

    • @devonhinckley2889
      @devonhinckley2889 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      That action should have been a DQ penalty but a time penalty makes sense. Putting hands on someone else during competition is a disrespectful violation of the sportsmanship rules. A friendly shoulder bump is one thing but any further than that is a no no, even in a professional sporting event competition. Stirring up the pot is understandable to throw a competitor off but there are ways to do so without violating the rules that could be an instant disqualification penalty. Just saying that there are other ways to stir up the pot enough to throw your competitors off their game without violating rules that will get you kicked out of the event

    I’ve been waiting for this for awhile. It was well worth the wait. Great 👍 production. Cool digital score boards and updates. Each event was clearly described. Men’s tug of war was epic.

    Thought it was great. Feel no penalties for Hunter or Aaron. That’s why they are Beasts!

    Thank you for the great content. I do hope that you release another series on the games, where we can see each individual event play out as it happened versus a summary/condensed version that we are getting here.

    I feel like Hunter missed his calling to be in the WWE. Also, he sounds just like NPH.

    Guys, please... Have you ever listened to Hunter on a podcast? Go listen to him talk to Ryan Fischer just about whatever. He’s a great guy. He’s funny and unapologetic about who he is. Wake up, these TINY clips from the comp made the cut for a reason. So you’d watch the next episode. And guess what - you did. Because you love watching Hunter, who by the way was told to stir the pot by the producers, be the stud that he is. So grab some popcorn and enjoy the show, you betas.

    In all due respect that was dangerous. Not the hit, but the act of it. When someone is lifting you dont knock the weights down or get involved in their process of doing their exercise. Look at the guy who kicked a guys dead lifting on youtube. Remember these guys are atheletes, if they fuck up their achelise or tear something its career ending. If someone knows this as being an athelete it just shows how dangerous they would become if they ever lose. If you want to prove yourself then do it, show it and respect it. Its one thing to have thick skin while playing around, but its another thing to be an idiot. _Dr.Stupid_

    Trying so hard to be/ not be like the CrossFit games. Great to have another outlet for fitness expression, but this is an exhibition vice a test of the fittest. PS - Hunter can’t fail to be portrayed as a world class douche bag. Or is this just to help create a villain?

    Demmik wearing Swedish Goggles... that says swimmer. Looks like Shoemaker shut it down once he was ahead. 2800m in 45 minutes is a pretty pedestrian pace.

    I am impressed with the events, especially the Spartan Cross that doubles the obstacle quantity of a normal Sprint. The one thing I m not impressed with is seeing one competitor smacking someone else's stomach during the event and the smacked competitor throwing a bucket at his back in return, therefore, that's not being a good sport at all. There's no need for that behavior, even in pro level.
