- In the season finale of Spartan Games, rain pours from the sky and two athletes begin their reign as Spartan Games Champions. Only a handful of points separate the leaders from the pack; and with three events on the final day of competition, anything is possible. The athletes are punished as they tear up the mountain donning weighted vests. DEKA makes a comeback, this time with deadlifts, pull ups and one-second victories. And Spartan Cross paves a path to victory for the fittest athletes on the planet.
DAY FOUR EVENTS:
- SPARTAN EXTREME ENDURANCE VERTICAL 300: One-mile, 300 vertical feet foot race up a mountain. Did we mention the mandatory weighted vests?
- DEKA HEAVY: 10 weighted functional fitness exercises, completed for time.
- SPARTAN CROSS 2.0: A new Spartan obstacle course event featuring 2.5k of running and 28 obstacles.

Spartan Games: Battle of the Fittest
Twenty four elite athletes - OCR champions, Olympians, NFL pros, triathletes, world champion crossfitters and more - descend on the mountains of Vermont to compete for $100,000. Over four days, they battle in ten grueling physical and mental challenges: obstacle course races, open-water swim, mountain biking, Spartan highland games, functional fitness competitions, ultra marathon, combat sports and more. Every athlete will be tested. Every athlete will be ripped out of their comfort zone. But only one will be The Fittest.

Disclaimer: The Spartan Games were a closed competition and all participating Athletes were by invite only. Spartan staff and personnel were limited to those individuals necessary to produce and operate the event. Prior to arriving at the event location, all individuals on-site and present for the competition (including all Athletes and Spartan staff) were required to submit two (2) negative COVID-19 test results: one (1) PCR test within seven days prior to arrival, and one (1) Rapid test within 12 hours prior to arrival. No spectators or other third-parties were allowed on-site during the competition, and no re-entry was permitted.

This has been great. Sad to see it ending. Hope it comes back next year! Invite Rich Froning and make sure Jacob Heppner keeps his word and shows up!
If Froning or Heppner shows up, it DRASTICALLY changes the playing field. A lot of the men this year weren't even professional athletes (beasts, not not pros). Having someone like Heppner would shake things up. I'd love to see it, but we already have the crossfit games. This has been a bit of a CrossFit Games knockoff.
@@tomhudson4719 I think they would definitely set the bar in some of the events, but the longer ones would definitely skew more towards some of the endurance and spartan athletes they had. With they kinds of things Froning has been doing lately I think he could really compete. Heppner said he was in for next year so hopefully we get to see how he does.
@@tomhudson4719 "Crossfit Games knock off"!😅 Yeah, it does look like it, in many ways! I think Fronning competing in this, would be like LeBron James competing with top-teir college basketball players.
@@OmarAbdulMalikDHEdMPASPACPAPro To a degree. In all the shorter events, Froning would dominate. Those DEKA events for example. Froning would set world records for those with a 90% effort. As far as the longer events go, he could hold his own and turn up middle of the pack. People don't often understand how fit those guys really are.

Atkins and Hunter have two different approaches, yet are both at the top of the game. Glad to see Hunter getting the itch to come back to OCR.
Wow! A lot of respect for Nicole Mericle. That takes an unbelievable level of maturity to make the call to stop. This is an excellent show by the way!
This show has been keeping the fire for Spartan lit while we 're going through this lull in events. Can't wait to race again!
Joe De Sena's mention of this event on the Rich Roll podcast brought me here. He mentioned that we don't see him in these videos because he was waiting on a COVID test result and because the production team was so strict, "they wouldn't let me onto my own farm." Joe's life story fascinates me. Enjoyed the series and the mix of athletes who participated. Would definitely watch season 2.
Ryan and Hunter are built different, that was incredible to watch along with Lindsay and Corinna going for the championship.

I loved to see the humility of the athletes that struggled and their positive attitudes! I would like to see the best crossfit athletes learn to race spartans and compete in this. Rich Froning and Matt Fraser especially.
Highly doubt that Rich Froning would do this - he has said a few times before that his individual competition days are over. I think he enjoys working out with others as a team more
Crossfit is too strength-biased to focus on Spartan racing, where half of it is very endurance based.
And Spartan racing has a high risk of injury so Matt would not risk his career in Crossfit (that has way more money in it) for a possible win here, even if he did drop muscle mass to be able to compete.
That last Spartan Cross 2.0 gave me flashbacks of the Seattle Super ‘18 and ‘19. So much wet 2” aluminum pipe...
The most suspenseful thing I have watched all year
If you’ve pushed through mountains of personal, health and/or fitness related obstacles this episode has to hit you emotionally deep. I’m inspired beyond belief with the effort of these athletes!

Hoping really hard to see Atkins and McIntyre battle it out on the USNS or Championships next year!
I love watching heavy events, so loved this format. However, watching people who have never deadlifted before deadlift gave me back pain.
i woulda have taken the 10s penalty on the deadlifts for 10 reps of 225lbs even if i could do them. For strategic reasons. lol. Would take longer than 10s (20s) and would strain you unnecessarily for remaining workouts. If it was a 30s penalty, then i would do them.
Four episodes is not enough. Great production. Makes me miss the Spartan events even more.
I found it very overproduced like TV, focusing on drama and not the events themselves.
I far prefer it less clippy and just raw with less background music.
And they should add some leaderboards while the comps are going on.
So impressed by all these athletes, thanks for putting this together it was sick to watch!
Not going to lie, i enjoyed this far more that this years crossfit games. Really hope Spartan make this a regular thing and bring in more people from across the wide range of fitness disciplines. Would be great to see what people can do.
I was having heart attacks looking at some of those deadlifts but they kept going! I really enjoyed watching the series. My 6 year old daughter is now obsessed with wrestling 😄

Great series with solid production value. Would love to see a follow-up next year with some more high profile athletes and properly enforced pullup form ;)
I dunno, their pull-ups looked fine to me. Who was doing them with incorrect form?
@@kenseiZA Really??!!! LOL! Well for starters...Faith's last "rep" (nowhere near chin over bar level), all of Carl's "reps" (the bar was too low, and he jumped/bent arm started each "rep" (not full arm extension at bottom), and most were not to chin over bar level either)...etc., etc..

Loved the format, the 10 events, the way it was brought together! I can't wait to compete at this hopefully one day! Sparta: I think you got yourself a big, great and unique product and/or Championship addition. Thanks for doing this. By far the best thing around Spartan that has happened in all 2020!

Great episode to close out the series! Seems like all the athletes were having more fun with it and not taking it too seriously. This was the best sporting event I got to watch all year, sometimes golf and formula 1 (which still had some events) just don’t cut it for excitement. Glad Ryan and Lindsay got the W because they are insane athletes!
That was a really fun event to watch and follow! Ryan and Lindsay are such an amazing couple. The fittest couple in the world hands down. So proud of them! 🇨🇦
i want to see ryan atkins / lindsey webster (Pro Spartans) vs Matt Fraser / Tia Toomey (Pro Crossfitters) :) Half the event crossfit based, half events spartan based.
The rain really came in clutch for the last day, couldn't script it any better than that. Grip strength in the rain is a whole different game, completely unpredictable. Edge of my seat the whole time expecting someone to slip off an obstacle.
Hope this keeps going next year, makes me want to train hard for when Spartan races come back.

That series was so intense! I am so proud of Josiah for his toughness, endurance, determination and strength! I was his middle school cross country coach and he had so much of those qualities way back then.
I love watching this it motivates me every time Spartan was a blessing for me as a single mother of five Spartan give me the opportunity to have goals for myself and find strength in me I never thought I had god bless you Spartan and all my fellow Spartans all over the globe

I like that for the most part you integrated the interviews during the hill climb into the background noise so that viewers could actually see most of the hill climb.
As a slight edit, I would have liked to see more "inclusive" footage of the Deka fit event. Sort of the difference between watching WSM vs. The Shaw Classic.
So good and exactly the winners I was hoping to see! Such camaraderie at the end when everyone was shot. Was pleasantly surprised to see Hunter giving Ryan tips to prevent injury on the deadlift. Glad to see two of the best humans around come out on top again.

Watching the DEKA strong I was like "this is the best event of the weekend, I wanna take part!" Then the Spartan Cross came around and I was like "Nevermind, THAT'S MY SPORT!" That's the event that got me the most hype for sure! Awesome stuff Spartan !
Amazing series, sad to see it end, helped me keep the Spartan flame alive until we are able to race again, they should do this on an annual basis and really expand on this

best thing to come from 2020, I really hope this is going to happen every year! Great job all around from the staff to the athletes.
I Love this, i have always done exercise all my life, i am now nearly 61 years old but walk at least 50 to 60 miles every week, plus cycle and do light weights, i live in a village and cannot afford the bus fare into town, so getting all my shopping is a workout in itself, anywhere between 8 and 12 miles, cat litter day is great, 12 miles, i cycle in then walk back 6 miles with 20 lb on my back pushing a heavy bike, plus some very steep hills, the last Gym i went to i was 52 years old, and the fittest their, i train every day in all weathers, currently training for 70 thousand steps in May, but also will start training after for doing a marathon carrying weight, i love it, i only came across spartan 3 days ago, they are truly amazing people, and they do inspire me, i train out at allhallows, which is in kent England, you dont get many people their esp in winter, its beautiful wide open spaces with wildlife and the sea, lots of lovely hills etc, a great place to do my training.
Absolutely some things that can be improved on, both in competition format and video production, but I'd love to see this come back this year.
The final show was the best yet! what a great series, Thank you very much for all the time and effort .. look forward to next season and finding how it adapts and evolves.
