    This is why the VVT-i 1UZ is highly underrated. Rev limit increase and increased horsepower without boost, also means no weight added from a turbo or supercharger.

    From the gate the 1UZ has the ingredients to make it a race spec engine. Has a reserved compression ratio with overbuilt internals. Not to mention a nearly completely balanced rotating assembly. So when bumping up compression and giving it some breathing mods it's no surprise that this block can push out these numbers.

    Absolutely sick build Ive been a big fan since i first saw it. Can you guys offer any insight on what you suggest in the search for more power on a budget with this engine? I’m currently planning my build for a 3uz swapped is300 drift and time attack car. I know fitting an m90 or m112 blower on it is common but it seems like a lot of money and complication for power that could be achieved NA. I also worry about how much power the weaker 3uz rods can hold and when a dry sump becomes necessary. What are the weak points reliability wise and what would you say are the first things to do when looking for more power?

    How would running vvt not help , even just to help widen the power band by 500 rpm or to pick up some tq at lower rpm as , you could limit the deg if it works on the old 20v system , so as to have no V to P contact ,
    Any chance of a dyno graph and one with foot pounds please 😄,
    Am I right that all the development of these engines are with in race rules , valve lift and compression

    • @hpa101
      @hpa101  4 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      The engine typically operates between about 7000 and 8700 rpm and VVT really would offer limited advantage. The other issue is that given the lift and duration of the new cams, there's very little room for them to be advanced/retarded. The juice simply isn't worth the squeeze.

    • @neomeg2232

      @@neomeg2232 ha yeh i'd still like an HPA response but you pointed out that the blip will unload the box and that solves most of my confusion

    • @hpa101
      @hpa101  4 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      The timing of each component of the shift can be very accurately timed through the MoTeC ECU. In most cases you actually want to begin the blip before the dogs disengage because when you're off the throttle the dogs will be locked on the overrun faces and the blip aids disengagement. With a manually actuated sequential we have less control because the shift barrel is moved by the driver. In a paddle shift system we can time the barrel movement independently of the blip/cut etc.

      We like the V8, something a bit different for us platform wise too with the UZ based build as we already have a 1000HP 2jz build in the course material. If you search for a dude called 'Chris Henderson' though he is building an EPIC LS7 powered GT86 for the same series, and also another chap going full hog with a 2jz GT86 build as well but I'm not 100% sure on his name - Taz.

      The guy who built this originally posted on the FT86 club website a bit however he didn't do much of the hands on work himself so it is unlikely you will find much technical information as I know Surefab in Christchurch did the engine mounting for him - Taz.
