"Inside the Fire" is another good one by them (Disturbed), but seriously prepare yourself, it's pretty dark and it goes into some serious subject matter. Like suicide chain/spiral places kinda dark.

As twisted as these songs seem it's how people deal with emotions and express what they're feeling without actually acting on them. Imagine being in that situation and hearing a song that portrays how you feel and the comfort and expression it can give you. Great breakdown Mel, I think you got a great understanding.

Finally, a reaction that doesn't react to the version that cuts out the rant.
This is about how society treats people who are "different." A lot of people think they are "sick" and "wrong" and want nothing to do with them.
In the middle of the song, lead singer David Draiman acts out a skit where he is being abused by his mother (not in the radio version). Finally, he builds up enough courage and hits her right back. This is used to symbolize how "mother society" abuses "her" children for not being the way "she" thinks they should. "She" keeps doing it until "her" children get sick of it and are so angry with her and themselves they go out and get revenge for it, most likely by killing the people that hurt them ("here it comes, get ready to die!") A good example of this would be the school shootings that go on around the country.
Getting "Down With The Sickness" means accepting people for who they are so we can all function better.

people like to drop this on unexpecting reactors because of its shock value. of which, you two were hit hard with it. with that said though, Mel, congrats on catching the message of the song. child abuse is a real problem, a silent problem, that needs remedied. now, not all Disturbed songs are this shocking. i would suggest Land Of Confusion (Genesis cover), also The Game, and two of my personal favorites Inside The Fire and Get Psycho. Inside The Fire is also another super deep message song...but without the shock lyrics, i promise

The part about the mom being about sobriety hit me as a kid in much different way. I was abused my entire life, and this song was the first time I found rock could be therapeutic. I raged in song, and found compassion for those who hurt me bc of disturbed. They saved me from what he was actually singing about. Bc of his music I never got into drugs and alcohol bc I just rock raged instead. So, it may sound evil, but God can use the most disturbing songs (pardon the well intentioned pun) to save lives. And, this song (and later so many other rock songs) did just that. :)

This is one of those songs where regardless of the type of music someone is into, they like this song. A think the mix of primal beats with relatable lyrics makes all of us go 'Well, dayum'. I also find it's a constructive way to process your feelings. Instead of losing control and going buck wild, people can express those negative emotions by scream-singing and headbanging to a tune like this.
