This album came out shortly after my ex-wife announced her plan for me to leave after 7 years and 3 kids. To say I was hurt and angry would be a gross understatement. This song, in particular, helped me to channel my pain and rage without damaging anyone else. Played it back to back in my car for weeks; so therapeutic. "She" keeps doing it until "her" children get sick of it and are so angry with her and themselves they go out and get revenge for it, most likely by killing the people that hurt them ("here it comes, get ready to die!") A good example of this would be the school shootings that go on around the country. Getting "Down With The Sickness" means accepting people for who they are so we can all function better.
Disturbed also covered a great Genesis song, Land of Confusion. Genesis is the band that Phil Collins played drums and sang, Peter Gabriel sang and Mike Rutherford (from Mike + The Mechanics) played bass/guitar. I’d love to see you react to the original version and Disturbed’s version of Land of Confusion.
I had seen Disturbed live in early 2000, just go and see them. Please. The entire band play so tight and are all insanely talented. One of the best sounding bands live.
People who had abusive childhoods really identify with this song. For me, it definitely struck a cord in me when I first heard it. I used to play this very loud when I was in that "Stuck" mode to snap me out of it. Definitely a pretty hard core song. Try Sound of Silence for a mind blowing musical experience. Thank you two. I always look for your video's to post everyday. Cheers!
This song can be taken that way. But actually the real meaning behind the song is about the government. Mother, is the government, the machine, the root of all evil.

He gets the same when he feels without looking like he hates his mother. He is incredible at capturing emotion, conveying pain, this song comes from a place of eternal pain. Every one of us who were abused knows that same pain. We live with it everyday. It's created the demon in us. We absorb the hate cuz that's what we had to do. Love seeing the reaction to the break. Your first instinct was correct. The explanation from Disturbed says that Mother is society abusing non-conformist behavior and beating them to fit into the mold society wants.
Sound of Silence was a cover of Simon & Garfunkel. This is more their normal style. Off their debut album released in 2000. Lead singer is David Draiman. You probably heard the song in part at a sporting event.
This song was entirely designed to evoke your reaction. The fact is that this world is full of darkness. Disturbed, appropriately named, has never been afraid to rip our minds open to disturbing realities.
Your hating that they're recognizing and relating to our realities? Even though these really are our realities. So for one to be able to connect with someone, something, something more than ourselves during our personal struggles to help empower us to better pursue through our personal struggles bothers you?
Hi, Jay and Amber. I’ve been a member of your channel for a few months now but have not left a single word until now. When I first discovered “reaction” videos I was fascinated by the idea. What makes them special? I feel it’s a bit like experiencing great songs and performances of my past for the first time - again - but enhancing the experience by sharing it with new young friends. I’m 68, so, yeah, you’re young. After bumping into my first reaction video, I binge watched for a couple days… and gradually became disappointed, in that the hosts began to feel like tired salespeople at Best Buy, faking it, pretending they are interested, pretending they know what they're talking about. They seemed like people stuck at a job. I began to suspect they knew the songs prior to their videos. Over time I stopped checking in on these channels, but not yours. You two offer something none of the others have quite been able to maintain: sincerity, authenticity (real folk), consistency, and warmth. It’s more than that though. You both exude genuine kindness and respect for each other, and for your audience, too. Also, you both seem to have an open mind in your approach to new music. You check your biases. Jay has a good sense for marketing, creating a brand, keeping things on track while not getting overly serious or too dry. I get the feeling he is giving it 100% and will succeed at whatever he puts his mind to. He’s focused. And Amber has an amazing talent for understanding the deeper meanings of both the music and the lyrics of a song. In watching her reactions, I get the feeling she is adjusting to the music, finding connections, tuning into the vibe and intent of the song. She is having an experience, which is contagious. I’ve watched you two react to songs I’ve heard a hundred times before, thought I knew the song, and Amber would make an observation that would put the song in a whole new light for me. She has a high music IQ - and very perceptive, I believe. You two, in my humble opinion, are the best reactors, best personalities, the best selection of songs, on TH-cam. Thank you for keeping it real. Here’s a song I believe you’d both enjoy, especially Amber, for Female Friday: Sara Bareilles - Goodbye Yellow Brick Road (Live Cover) I watched you do the original Elton John version. You guys have it. Please keep it up.
Welcome to the family 🙋🏻♀️ I’m 58 I love watching Jordon and Amber they are good people. I’m sure I’ll run into you again on here . Have a good one 🙏🏻
YUP. I am a reaction addict, and I have given a similar description, as to Why. We of course can't experience our past again, but it FEELS like it, when you watch people react to the stuff from the past, in an effort to re-live it. It is actually an acceptable replacement, to me, since it's not possible to go back. I LOVE IT. And I've been watching Jordan since his first reaction videos, and I became an instant fan. He and Amber are absolutely my favorite reactors.
Rodney, I agree with just about every word you said. You might enjoy Andy and Alex, two very smart college students that are knowledgeable about music. If you haven't heard them you might want to check them out.
This guy on the left is an incredible reactionist. The expressions of surprise, glee and enlightenment are remarkable to behold. Thank you for the marvelous work!
Interesting fact: The first time I heard this song I was at a friend's house tripping on acid. He put in a cassette and was looking for a song. He was fast forwarding and playing trying to find the song he wanted. At one point he stopped fast forwarding and played it right when they said "OOH WA AH AH AH!" I flipped my lid lol. I said WTF WAS THAT?! Rewind it! Then we listened to the whole song and I absolutely loved it!
Disturbed is our Led Zeppelin type band moment…we will always remember where we were the first time we heard that ohhh ahhh ahhh ahhh ahhhh!!! In 2000!!
This was off their first album and definitely a breakthrough song for them. Stricken is my favorite by them. Was so excited when you reacted to it. You cant go wrong reacting to Disturbed. Everything they do is great!
It gets dark quickly. You did notice right before he goes in to that part, he says..."when I dream". As a child of a very heavy handed dad, I felt this way many times. Since then he has apologized many times, and I'm good. He's become my best friend.
We were all on the edges of our seats right before the "left turn", waiting to see your reaction. It was satisfying... LOL ... Funny Jordan, I remember in a couple of your very first vids, you said you wouldn't be able to enjoy louder, harder stuff. Now look at you! Love you guys. YOU make me smile.
I sang this in a very upscale bar on my 30th birthday. First time I ever did karaoke and the DJ was loving it, however when I was done and looked at all the people, they were mortified. Best night ever!
Ya, I remember those caricature puppets of celebrities were a thing at that time. React to Phil Collins - Land of Confusion and see how many of the celebrities and world leaders you can name.
This song describes my childhood completely from both my carrier ( birth mother) and my step mom perfectly. Completely spot on. I had a VERY difficult time trusting any woman in my life from teachers to my aunts and grandmother. I had anger issues and wanted to kill anyone who hurt me mentally or physically. One aunt in particular stood up to me and made me confront my fear and she's the one I grew closest to. My grandmother also came to be a mother figure to me as well and I have so much respect for them to stand up to me when my life could've turned out much worse than it was. I thank them endlessly to this day for saving my freedom but still have nightmares and flashbacks from childhood. I'm also VERY grateful that a band was able to catch my emotions and put it towards a song like this because it's how I felt
I'm sure Amber will appreciate "The Light", especially the video. It has a great message. Also, "A reason to fight" would be a good song for her. These songs are newer, and many will say they aren't the real Disturbed sound, but I like them.
That’s interesting since the official clean album version (as well as the clean version featured on the soundtrack “Queen of the Damned”) leaves in the mother part while still censoring all of the profanity Yet the music video leaves the profanity uncensored while still removing the abuse part
I love how open minded you guys are. Being open like this will lead you to new and unexpected journeys. May your trip always be a fun learning experience.
Listen to "The Light" by them. It's lighter but still a good song. The Vengeful One, Sons of Plunder, Indestructible, Hell...if you want to know Disturbed, I'm ya girl... they're my favorite band.
The lead singer David Draiman worked in the healthcare business before becoming a singer and he is actually a sorta soft spoken guy in normal conversations
This song was on the Vampire movie “Queen of the Damned!” In the Disturbed song they only used the first chorus. Lestat de Lioncourt sings to flush out vampires! Using the song to tell about changes from human into a Vampire! Infuriated the Vampire community since they thrive on secrecy! This song is really about societies effects on children! Especially in abusive homes or families who over medicating children to calm them down! Many teens especially from single parents become over active, not understanding how to deal with their hormonal changes. Some parents abused their children while other use drug like Ritalin to keep from being hyperactive!! When these same children turn into their stages they become more hormonally aggressive, either from being over medicated or being abused. So most bring out their demons into public society were many of them become anti-social and anarchist!!!
Seriously! Having looked through the list of videos that you guys haven't heard I'm so amazed at how someone may have been even dodging all these songs that are everywhere, and have been for quite many years, some even decades. But.. I can't complain. First time reactions are always priceless so thank you for providing us with that.
"Ten Thousand Fists" is another great Disturbed song for you guys to give a listen to! Love love love watching y'all react to these songs that have been in my life for years! Every time, it reminds me of my first time hearing them! Rock on 🤘🏻😎

It's a classic ... everytime I see someone reacting to the full non-edited version of this song (the radio edit doesn't have that "dirty" part), I go for popcorn and press play... it never fails... haha... Great reaction guys!!
Before watching your reaction: ''Oh, man! You have no idea...'' Fun fact: David Draiman came up with the OHH- AAHH-AAHH-AAHH while Disturbed was recording. His band mates made about the same faces like you two did when they heard it the first time.
Yeah waited for that look. You have to go back and catch the meaning. Disturbed touches on things that most people shy away from. I love them. Love the reaction and love Disturbed.
Hate Me came on the radio while I was driving the other day, and I had to pull over because I was sobbing uncontrollably by the end. I wasn't ready, and it hit me like a ton of bricks.
This song was used (David Draiman's was the Vamapire Lestat's singing voice) in Queen of the Damned. Along with several other songs, it was used as emotional backdrop to Lestat's journey on the fictional album, Redeemer.
Yeah sorry to burst your bubble but it wasn't David Draiman singing in Queen of the Damned, they did use some Disturbed songs in the movie, this one as well, but it was actually Korn's singer Johnathan Davis who was the voice of Lestat in that movie, for the singing I mean.
I'm a Blue October fan but just recently discovered the acoustic version of "Fear" definitely one Amber may like... it's a fight song for anybody going/dealing with something in their life....
The, Radio Edit cuts out the abuse part (sUrpRiSe), but this is one of the great things about Metal; they're willing to address the difficult topics. Another great song that speaks out against child abuse is by your girl, Pat Benatar- Hell is for Children. Easily her hardest Rocking song! 🔥🤘🏽
While people relate to the song as being about child abuse, it’s actually not. From David’s own words in an interview, it’s about society (the mother) beating down their child (the individual) and forcing them to conform. However, the great thing about music is that everyone can find whatever meaning they want in it and if this helps people who were victims of abuse, then that’s not a bad thing.
You do mean like the song (A Reason to Fight, the official video) that advocates the prevention of drug abuse, depression and suicide that they do at every concert. They are a band that wants to reach people in need.
Your reactions were priceless!! The songs about child abuse and how it changed him and brought on the sickness that his mother had. Great song about a real issue!!
This song is about David's mother abusing him. David was a problem child, in and out of boarding schools. His mother could not control him, so she reprimanded and disciplined him with severe and physical abuse. Not all, but if you check the past of musicians you'll be surprised how many of them had problems in the family or being bullied in school...ect...
Yeah. all the people down on Axl Rose's bad behavior and come to find out he is bipolar and was sexually and physically abused before he ran away from home
False, it's about society and it's children being forced to mother society's ways but David is speaking out wanting us to stand against the bad norms of society sickening us
This was the first Disturbed song I learned while my mother was still alive (passed in 09), I played once before she died. I play to this to get warmed up at band practice. I seen them twice at 2 different events. It's a tough song to learn and much more tough to play now that mom has died.
Amber "The Light" and "A Reason to Fight" and "Hold on to Memories" are great songs by them probably much more your speed. David is a great singer trained in the Jewish worship tradition.
Just thought of the PERFECT band for you to react to: Staind ❤ They have harder, headbanger stuff, but I think you'll love their more mellow side with "It's Been Awhile," and my personal favorite, "Outside." The lead singer has SUCH a gorgeous voice, I think you'll both appreciate it 😊
The song starts off as a child that has been beaten so low to the point he's kneeling sumissively before his abuser which happens to be his mother who also probably treats him like a servant. At his lowest point he starts to change from being fearful and heartbroken and an intense hatred starts to flare up inside of him, each time he's being abused, but it's only his thoughts and his feelings that have turned him angry and full of rage which is lashed so violently out in this song but he's basically saying because of her cruelty he's turned into this monster and now he's just as sick as her when he says, "Come get down with the sickness."
Just as an FYI, it isn't a real mother. Mother in this is society and the sickness is not being what society wants you to be... so it deems you as "sick". Get down with the sickness means to be accepting and cool with not being how society wants you to be. Enjoy

In the middle of the song, lead singer David Draiman acts out a skit where he is being abused by his mother (not in the radio version). Finally, he builds up enough courage and hits her right back. This is used to symbolize how "mother society" abuses "her" children for not being the way "she" thinks they should.
And/or their cover of Shout by Tears For Fears.
They also did a great cover of Shout by Tears for Fears.
@Joseph McBrayer Peter Gabriel wasn’t in Genesis at the time
That was a good cover also
@@rebeccavanstraten8175 yes he was in the early years
I had seen Disturbed live in early 2000, just go and see them. Please. The entire band play so tight and are all insanely talented. One of the best sounding bands live.
It’s about society, in general. It is NOT a personal song of his life
Iirc Inside The Fire is however
The "OOOH AAHHH AAHHH AAHHHH AAHHH!" part is a hugely sampled piece. Rightly so, it's iconic.
@@SamoanObsidian I just said what I, and others I have talked to over the years have felt about the song. Other abuse victims. I know what the meaning of the song was actually about, but thanks.
@@pjsleepwalker3010 Like I said, your interpretation of the song can mean that way, and it does. I pointed out the actual meaning of the song. You’re welcome.
@@SamoanObsidian I know he has said that, but at the same time his interviews about his parents are really really clear. It was not a happy childhood. Extremely conservative parents/grandparents with their foot on his throat. It would be an incredible stretch to believe this song with the amount of passion he has, is just a revolutionary song about government control. But it does protect his parents.
We absorbed it and it created something in us that no one wants to see. Many of us live with that sickness every day of our lives. It ain't about government.
@@earlschandelmeier751 that demon in me was created by emotional neglect and abuse at the hands of my mother who always put me second, especially when she was in a relationship. Giving in to that demon and unleashing it was my only way of surviving.
im cryinggggggggg, she was not having any of that in the beginning lol
Love seeing the reaction to the break.
Your first instinct was correct. The explanation from Disturbed says that Mother is society abusing non-conformist behavior and beating them to fit into the mold society wants.
Crew, your faces during that part was simply priceless 🤣🤣 I loved it !
"Sound Of Silence" was originated by Simon & Garfunkel. You should definitely check out the original.
Yes the original is much better
I think that would be a letdown after hearing David's rendition.
I have said the same thing
A lot of people say the original was the warning and the remake was the “I told you so” version.
Absolutely
THIS was the Down With the Sickness reaction I’ve been wanting! Jfc, THANK YOU for doing the lyric video instead of the radio version!
You must listen to disturbed “the sound of silence” live on Conan. No regrets!
That's so good....
Amber will like this as well!
I agree 100% !!!
This'll get the taste out Amber's mouth 🤣😂🤣
Yes! A great Simon & Garfunkel tune. Disturbed does it justice
Thank you for giving Disturbed a chance. There are so many songs they have done. Try, Prayer and Believe.
Consider yourself blessed if you can’t relate to this song on a deeper level.
Perfectly said.
exactly
OMG, your reaction to "the turn" was awesome.
And now we know what Amber's skeptical face looks like. :)
Great reaction! Love this band.
Here’s a song I believe you’d both enjoy, especially Amber, for Female Friday: Sara Bareilles - Goodbye Yellow Brick Road (Live Cover)
I watched you do the original Elton John version.
Agree 100%
Very well said 👍
Rodney, I agree with just about every word you said. You might enjoy Andy and Alex, two very smart college students that are knowledgeable about music. If you haven't heard them you might want to check them out.
You were correct on your first thought...this song is about society as a a whole...nothing to do with him getting abused
I love people's faces when the abusive part plays they're like what the hell is that😱
yeah it gets dark in a hurry. so does "The Game" on the same album.
And that was exactly the intent.
This guy on the left is an incredible reactionist. The expressions of surprise, glee and enlightenment are remarkable to behold. Thank you for the marvelous work!
OMG the look on both your faces was priceless 🤣🤣🤣🤣 great reaction
Stricken is also my favorite!
Just Love this from Disturbed, so damn awesome song and voice!! Love it!
Jay, your headbanging was inspirational on this one. Glad Amber finally started feeling it :))
It gets dark quickly. You did notice right before he goes in to that part, he says..."when I dream".
As a child of a very heavy handed dad, I felt this way many times.
Since then he has apologized many times, and I'm good. He's become my best friend.
Such a great song!!!
I thought I was the only chick that listens to metal ish
Your face though 🤣🤣🤣✌🏼✌🏼✌🏼❤️
We were all on the edges of our seats right before the "left turn", waiting to see your reaction. It was satisfying... LOL ... Funny Jordan, I remember in a couple of your very first vids, you said you wouldn't be able to enjoy louder, harder stuff. Now look at you! Love you guys. YOU make me smile.
I sang this in a very upscale bar on my 30th birthday. First time I ever did karaoke and the DJ was loving it, however when I was done and looked at all the people, they were mortified. Best night ever!
Disturbed's rendition of Genesis (Phil Collins) "Land Of Confusion" is downright awesome. Equally as awesome is the official music video for the song
Yes!
The sound of silence was a Simon and Garfunkel song
If not one has mentioned this, the mother in this is a representation of society.
Talk about some musical whiplash, ELO, Charlie Pride, and Disturbed all in one day.
...and now for something completely different!
musical whiplash that is the perfect term for mix for today and it was good
This song by itself causes wiplash. We all know what I mean.
I was soooooo waiting for this "part"!!
I'm sure Amber will appreciate "The Light", especially the video. It has a great message. Also, "A reason to fight" would be a good song for her. These songs are newer, and many will say they aren't the real Disturbed sound, but I like them.
I love that tune.
I tear up every time I hear "A Reason to Fight" so raw and real.
Disturbed is maturing as we all should. They still have that edge, but tempered by age and experience.
Such a pretty song with happy uplifting lyrics.
Disturbed very sick the voice is so versatile and so awsome
David Draiman
Oh, I am SO HAPPY it was the extended version of the song. I was waiting for the switchup to see how you would react.
OMG! Your reactions to the bridge was priceless! This is classic Disturbed! Keep'em coming! I love your channel! 🤍
This song was actually their first radio hit off of their first album "The Sickness" back in 2000. The whole album goes hard.
The radio version of this song doesnt have that mommy part if you would rather💖 Its still a rocking song!
Same with the official video.
That’s interesting since the official clean album version (as well as the clean version featured on the soundtrack “Queen of the Damned”) leaves in the mother part while still censoring all of the profanity
Yet the music video leaves the profanity uncensored while still removing the abuse part
it's not the same without the mommy part
I love how open minded you guys are. Being open like this will lead you to new and unexpected journeys. May your trip always be a fun learning experience.
Listen to "The Light" by them. It's lighter but still a good song. The Vengeful One, Sons of Plunder, Indestructible, Hell...if you want to know Disturbed, I'm ya girl... they're my favorite band.
I’m right there with you. I could list their entire discography for songs to react to
I'm right there with you. Seen them live three times now & every time they leave me wanting *MORE!*
Sons of plunder is a great song
So most bring out their demons into public society were many of them become anti-social and anarchist!!!
it is also the ONLY song NOT sang by Korn in the actual movie. The cd soundtrack has different artists. Lestat will live FOREVER!
And "Dawn of the dead" of George Romero)
Maybe, but I still like how the full song ended up on the soundtrack
Seriously! Having looked through the list of videos that you guys haven't heard I'm so amazed at how someone may have been even dodging all these songs that are everywhere, and have been for quite many years, some even decades.
But.. I can't complain. First time reactions are always priceless so thank you for providing us with that.
Yes, Sound of Silence was originally done by Simon and Garfunkel
Henk Poort sang the best Sound Of Silence cover.
You have no idea...''
Fun fact: David Draiman came up with the OHH- AAHH-AAHH-AAHH while Disturbed was recording. His band mates made about the same faces like you two did when they heard it the first time.
Yeah waited for that look. You have to go back and catch the meaning. Disturbed touches on things that most people shy away from. I love them. Love the reaction and love Disturbed.
Godsmack’s “Awake” and Blue October’s “Hate Me”, please 🙏🏼
I second Blue October!!
‘Hate Me’ destroys me. Good suggestion. ❤️
Another +vote for Blue October "Hate Me"
Hate Me came on the radio while I was driving the other day, and I had to pull over because I was sobbing uncontrollably by the end. I wasn't ready, and it hit me like a ton of bricks.
@@francisdiederichs5739 I believe it. It’s brutal. 💔
Y’all’s faces!!! 😂😂😂
This song is pretty hard core.
This song was used (David Draiman's was the Vamapire Lestat's singing voice) in Queen of the Damned. Along with several other songs, it was used as emotional backdrop to Lestat's journey on the fictional album, Redeemer.
Actually the lead singer for korn was lestat's singing voice
Yeah sorry to burst your bubble but it wasn't David Draiman singing in Queen of the Damned, they did use some Disturbed songs in the movie, this one as well, but it was actually Korn's singer Johnathan Davis who was the voice of Lestat in that movie, for the singing I mean.
I just saw this reaction! I’m laughing crying right now
I'm a Blue October fan but just recently discovered the acoustic version of "Fear" definitely one Amber may like... it's a fight song for anybody going/dealing with something in their life....
Love Disturbed. Saw them live on a few occasions and amazing live band. Sound of Silence is a Simon and Garfunkel cover
She performed Hell Is For Children in every show but one since it was first released
@@clonexx
Thanx. I hadn't heard about that interview. 👍🏽😁
It’s not a personal song
Yeah. all the people down on Axl Rose's bad behavior and come to find out he is bipolar and was sexually and physically abused before he ran away from home
Personal nothing dude
False, it's about society and it's children being forced to mother society's ways but David is speaking out wanting us to stand against the bad norms of society sickening us
This was the first Disturbed song I learned while my mother was still alive (passed in 09), I played once before she died. I play to this to get warmed up at band practice. I seen them twice at 2 different events. It's a tough song to learn and much more tough to play now that mom has died.
Amber "The Light" and "A Reason to Fight" and "Hold on to Memories" are great songs by them probably much more your speed. David is a great singer trained in the Jewish worship tradition.
Loving that shirt Mrs. Amber. They were my wife's favorite band/singer EVER.
Just thought of the PERFECT band for you to react to: Staind ❤ They have harder, headbanger stuff, but I think you'll love their more mellow side with "It's Been Awhile," and my personal favorite, "Outside." The lead singer has SUCH a gorgeous voice, I think you'll both appreciate it 😊
OMG!!! Your faces!!!!
Disturbeds version of Sound of silence is amazing. It really makes you get the true meaning behind the song.
Lol... I was waiting for the change. Your faces were priceless
Enjoy
WHOA!! Totally didnt realize you guys have already done Disturbed. Love it so much! I hope that you continue with them especially their latest album. Keep up the great work guys!!
I love these type of songs too, especially this one!! Some other good hard rock songs and bands you should react too are:

Something cool about watching your videos...it makes me "listen" to songs again.
Obviously, I can't hear any of them for the first time twice, but when I watch you and listen to your take on it, it does make me hear it for the first time in a brand new way.
I enjoyed the song. I have for a long time.
But I never really thought about it much...until now.
Damn powerful song.
Thank you.
Oh Ah Ah Ah Ah
This is his sound of silence lmao
I love this song! Absolutely LOVED your overall reactions to this. This song was also well used in the 2004 version of Dawn of the Dead! They have some pretty hard stuff. As for Sound of Silence, that was originally done by Simon and Garfunkel, which you should definitely check out!!!
Rofl the looks on your faces during the "part" 🤣
Sound of silence the original is Simon and Garfunkel
The look on Amber's face, PRICELESS!!
Yes!!!! Very good song. You should try Trapt- headstrong. If you enjoyed this.
Yaasss!!! I love Trapt!
Great workout song!
A better work out song by Disturbed is "Droppin Plates". Banger.
Ok, I’ve watched about 15 reactions to this song and y’all’s is by far the best
IMO "The game" is their best song. But try some CORROSION OF CONFORMITY: "Clean my wounds."
COC- Albatross too.
