For the spirits of dark I imagine something classic: a fallen angel. Something like deathangemon. Samaelmon or something like that. For the spirits of steel. I imagine a classic fusion like the ones we see with fire and light. I like to name it satellitemon. The design is the same as mercurimon with a slightly color swap. But is missing it's main feat: its shields Now they transformed into 9 orbs that circle him like satellites. They work as both mercurymon shields and Sephirothmon "eye portals" and can transform at will into a mercurymon copy with swarm mind (imagine like Naruto's kage bunshin and rikudo Sennin mode).

These are incredible!!! I love Zoe’s corrupted spirits!!! Her human spirit reminds me of the corrupted pink ranger in the broken grid power rangers game!!! I LOVE IT!!! I’d love to see a video of the other spirits of metal, Wood, Earth, and Water get actual spirits. And maybe a gender bend of the spirits, like if a female was chosen for the spirit of flame and a male was chosen for the spirit of water
Glad to know I wasn't the only one. I mean if the other 4 kids who stayed with Angemon were given those 4 spirits, whoever's getting Steel is gonna be confused/mad about Sakkakumon.
These are some really amazing designs and you know I love me some original digimon! Frankly I'd be interested in seeing Fusion Evolutions for the remaining Bad Spirits as the Good Spirits all have designated Fusion Evolutions (even though Tommy's is kinda bad). Heck some Unified Spirit Evolutions to go with EmperorGreymon and MagnaGarurumon would be cool to see as well. Also the blue variant of the Corrupted Beast Spirit of Fire is definitely better.
You know, when you brought up the radioactive look on the corrupt fire spirit, it makes me think that a corrupt light or fire spirit could really embrace the idea of radioactivity as a kind of perverse opposite, seeing how light and fire are often thought of as comforting and nurturing. Wouldn't a digimon that maybe even generated some form of radioactive fallout on it's own be very much the inverse of those two characteristics? A beast that not only destroys all it comes across, but causes the land around it to wither and die, poisoning the earth so it can no longer support life for a long time. Or is that maybe going a little too dark?
Funnily enough I've drawn Digimon based on nuclear radiation a radioactive slime that hardens evolving into a uranium golem and then gaining organic matter becoming a radioactive mutant
I like that the monster fire spirit is based off something protective and will kill anyone who hurts what it protecting. And I like to keep that with the corrected spirits that if anyone hurts the fronter kids that takuya would kill them
This was so dope! I definitely love all these concepts arguably Spirit of Ice being my favorite but they all are so close. Definitely echo how amazing including cultural influence in designs is! There is so much lore and mythos out there, and seeing these novel (to me) concepts integrated into a media like digimon (and other fantasy media) makes things interesting and exciting. Plus it makes the nerd (and just good humaness??) in me want to learn more about the cultural influences. Also serious judgment for not watching AtLA or ALoK... For shame! Great video!
Okay. 1.) WOOOOOW this art and the ideas presented are so insane and done so well! I love seeing all the original Digimon made for this videos. Shows the passion of all the creators who work together to make all of this, Karn included! 2.) As someone who has finally started properly working on my own Frontier stuff in honor of the anniversary, the SpirtSwapAU for anyone curious, and me trying to wrack my brain trying to make a corrupted Spirit of Light for the AU’s story without going super cliche and making it like an Angel thing, this video was amazing. Not only was the Corrupted Spirits of Light done so incredibly well, all of these were! I’ve said it in these comments, on Twitter, and many other places, but these videos really help me keep motivated to keep working on my Digimon Art and Stories even if I’m not a great artist, and because I get distracted so easily. Especially videos like these get my creative juices flowing, getting me to want to work on my project even if I can’t illustrate it well with art. I’ve said it thousand times, and I’ll say it a thousand more, thank you Karn, and all the artists too, for making such great content for us fans.
One think about the Darkness Spirits I wish had been incorperated into the others more is that while the Purified Darkness spirits are both inspired by Lions, the Corrupted versions are inspired by the Cerberus or Hell Hound for his human spirit and a vulture for his Beast Spirit. Technically the Wind Spirit also kind of does this naturally with the Human Spirit being a Fairy which has Butterfly wings while the Beast Spirit is more Bird Like. Ice also kinda of does this as well and even it's Hybrid evolution is an entirely different animal from the Human or Beast Spirits. Anyway... I especially wanted to see more of that influence in his brother's light spirit. The Human form still kind of looks wolf inspired. Since the Darkness Human Spirit goes from a Canine, the Cerberus to the Feline Lion I think the Beast Spirit of Light should have gone from a canine to a lion as well. And I'm intentionally having the Beast spirit rather than the Human one make a similar transition so that the Corupted Human Spirit of Light can also have Vulture inspired evolution to match the corrupted Dark Beast Spirit. I'd keep the shield and Lance as the weapons as I really like your reasoning for including that in the design I'd just change up the armor a little bit so it looks like a matching pair with the Dark Vulture Digimon. BTW... the other Spirits in Frontier are all villains and could possibly be corrupted versions already anyway so if you ever do a part 2 to this creating alternate versions of them they should probably be the purified versions of those spirits.
Sup, I’m the ice boy. I actually did end up doing a fair bit of research into how the “evil,” spirits worked after the fact. Water, earth, metal, and wood were described somewhere as being brought to life by Cherubimon if memory serves. And while that does heavily imply they are “corrupted,” due to that within the canon, outside of it they are the only human and beast spirits we have. Between that and the fact that even after freeing them from Cherubimon’s influence by the end of frontier, they remained the same for their final appearances, I’d say it’s safe to corrupt them further, rather than purify them.
Hell yes!! My absolute favorite Digimon season!! I feel old as hell, though that is probably because I'm a dad now. But I love this concept. Thank you Karn for this great idea!!
Man, these were all so incredible that it’s hard to pick a favorite. All of the artists did such a phenomenal job with the prompt, I’d love to see a Part 2 going over the other Spirits! I’m very curious to see what a corrupt Susanoomon might look like.
I normally don't leave a comment on YT videos anymore but seeing my favorite Brazilian mythological animal being referenced in a Digimon medium made my day happy Boitatá simply the G.O.A.T
All of the corrupted forms were amazing. I really liked Zoe’s corrupted forms set the most, Tommy’s was second. However my favorite stand alone corrupted form was the corrupted flame Beast Spirit. That flaming snake was amazing 10/10.
By far my favorite one is The corrupted human spirit of Flame. It looks like it was pulled straight out of Shin Megami Tensei and I'm a huge sucker for that
Yeah, if you take into consideration that the Ancients don't look anything like the individual spirits, it kinda gives me the feeling that the plot point about purifying those spirits was dropped from the series

I love these. The ice spirits are definitely my favourite. I really appreciate the care that went into the background and symmetry of the light Digimon. My one note is that I can't really see the light element in Fenrirmon. Maybe it's the colouring, but it looks more like the absence of light than a corrupted light. I feel like one kick-ass attack could turn that around, though. As much as I was disappointed in Frontier as a Digimon series, it is definitely the most fun in terms of "what if?" scenarios. I have a strong affinity to the spirits of steel and wood (due largely to a personal connection via Chinese astrology), so I would absolutely love to see you give corrupted spirits, Advance Hybrid forms, etc. to the remaining four. I'll be patient, though.
It is indeed the absence of light cause of the Blackout inspiration haha! Yeah I think Frontier has SO much lore that it didn't have definitive or final answers for that it presents a lot of opportunity to explore!
would be interesting see the corrupted version of Water, Steel, Wood and Earth, like "what if Cherubimon decided to taint all the Spirits under his guard to make his evil warriors?"

And these original digimons are MIND BLOWING😮 What. A. Work!!! The designs! The thought process! I'm absolutely blown away. I think my favorites are the corrupted Wind beast spirit, corrupted Thunder human spirit and corrupted beast Fire spirit. But seriously, each of these are incredible designs and concepts.

My favs are definitely the corrupted fire spirits HLR was right about differently colored fires, it adds an intensity to corrupted forms like Shinegreymon Ruin Mode
Talking about the part where you talk about liking artists using their own cultural background in designing new Digimon, maybe a series of videos about digimon-lines (or single digimon) that represent certain countries could be a fun idea for the future. Especially if based on some of the lesser known countries around the world.
It would be really cool if there were more Digimons inspired by Brazilian Folklore, we have many tales with very interesting creatures that would make good Digimons. And I have to congratulate the artist, what a cool art by Boitatámon (Boitatamon)!!!
I definitely love the concept of alternative corrupted heroes, from franchises like Transformers (Optimus and Nemesis Prime) as well as Kamen Rider (most of the main protagonist rider and the black/monochrome version based on the main rider). Would like to see a Digimon season based on the concept of alternate reality, where the heroes will fight against villain versions of themselves, just like Kamen rider Ryuki and Ryuga. (If there already is a season that has that, I'm sorry. Just recently got into Digimon a few months ago)
I want them in an anime so bad these look awesome, even though I would love to see a continuation with the other corrupted spirits I would also like to see a corrupted equivalent of Aldamon and Beowulfmon for these guys... like draugrmon and fenrismon fusing into a lokimon love the video cant wait to see more happy easter

Omg I'm like so late but really loved seeing Mapuche culture included in an english speaking video. As a fellow Chilean I would love to give you insight of some other aborigenous cultures in Chile and mithology thay could be used to create new digimon evolution lines. Love all the mythological influences here! Kurokabumon in particular 100% like a real design! If you ever do original Digimon concepts influenced by Mesoamerican (Aztec, Maya, etc) mythology, I'd love to help out: I actually act as a consult for history and archeology channels on those subject!
I definitely learned a lot of from the inspiration for these digimon. Now I have to look them up to add them too my DnD campaign! Great video as well. Frontiers is still my favorite Digimon Series.

It’s my favourite season, spirit digivolution is my favourite kind of digivolution ( only followed by tamer matrix digivolution because I hate when the tamer just is there like tai on greymons head ) and I hate having this series ended that long ago
With all the mythology basis I picture the corrupted earth spirit as a Gorgon since the most famous one, Medusa, has the ability to turn people to stone, plus if it was based on a Gorgon/Medusa Mercurymon could be the digimon equivalent of Perseus due to Perseus using his shield's reflection to avoid looking directly at Medusa, and Mercurymon has the ability to reflect attacks. Ooo, I once took my own spin on a corrupted spirit of light, but I leaned more on Duskmon. Ie. Where Duskmon was covered in eyes, the corrupted light spirit would be covered in mouths, with it's eyes covered, and small blades of light that emerge from mouths replacing it's hands. The beast spirit was based on a spider bc I wanted to make a wolf spider pun so not mentioning that. It's really cool to see how different two people can image corrupting the same spirit!
Giving every digimon a corrupt version is the coolest idea ever (maybe because im edgy idk?) i wish you can do more of this and making a fan made corrupt version of that digimon is genius
Another fun idea to do! Corruptly hyper spirit and ancient spirit evolutions for everyone would be awesome to see. You always get some of the best digimon artist I see
Everyone always says that Frontier would have been better if the kids had partners, but I'm here to say that actually would have sucked. Assuming we stick with the whole concept of the kids becoming the Digimon that Frontier had, them doing so by combining with their partner Digimon would just feel like biomerging from Tamers. Really, what they should have done was have the spirits of the ancient Digimon inhabit the human spirits of their respective element. Instead of it being like they typical Digimon partnership where two comrades grow together as equals, it would be more akin to a mentor mentee relationship. The spirits could guide the kids on their journey and teach them to use their newfound powers. While the kids could reawaken the passion they all had in the battle against Lucemon.
I am so happy that you did a video and art based on my and many other's suggestions of corrupted versions of the other spirits! I love it and I love the corrupted version of the spirits of fire! I love the way the corrupted human spirit looks more beast than man and he doesn't have much of a face like Mercurymon! so its a nice parallel hell, with the way they both have humanoid forms but aren't really human-looking, since mercurymon looks more like a walking mirror while Cherufemon looks like a walking magma pillar! I wonder will he be cruel and ruthless to Agnimon's kindness and compassion?

blue fire is natural though, fire changes color based on how hot it burns, also, how much it waves is an indicator of how hot it is with the hottest flames being nearly still.
Personally I think using Jormungandr might have been a better choice for inspiration for the corrupted beast spirit of light. My reasoning is if the beast spirit of darkness goes from a lion to a bird. then going from a wolf to a snake would make more sense. Since darkness and light are counter parts if the corrupted version of one takes to the skies then the other should conquer the depths. and it still goes with the whole Norse inspiration thing you were going for.
there is also Hades Blue fiery hair in Disney's Hercules that supports the evil fire thing, usually they have blue coloured fire because blue fire is hotter than regular fire thus evil XD.

Hey Karn! I am actually trying to do a Digimon Frontier What-If-The-Enemy-Spirits were the Heroic Spirits kind of thing. In this case, I am trying to find the "decorrupted" spirits of Wood, Earth, Water, and Steel. I treat them with the '5 elements of Japanese/Chinese divination/Onmyoroyoji" and historical stories. All I have are rough sketches, but I would be willing to contribute to any of the videos you post next month or if you decide on doing this. I am using these as practice and I am a newcomer so please keep that in mind :)
In Chinese mythology, the Red God or the Red Deity (Agnimon) is destroyed by the Yellow Deity (Saturn/Earth/in Vedic he is Shani). I am making the human forms based on Vedic Mythology of the planets.
7:20 "the corrupted spirit should be far from a wolf" calls the spirit a fenrir Somewhere in my mind you had a miss opportunity to call atleast anyone of the as "Dawnmon" in contrast to duskmon
I can imagine the lore surrounding fenrirmon and the tale of fenrir biting the arm of Norse god (cannie recall) being mimiced in a episode. Like a test of human challenging the transformation. But thats my 2cents
Further more the Green lava could just be radioactivity like that found at Yellowstone. Maaaan these designs are so good. Keep up the content always fun imaging these forms!

Since the Darkness Human Spirit goes from a Canine, the Cerberus to the Feline Lion I think the Beast Spirit of Light should have gone from a canine to a lion as well. And I'm intentionally having the Beast spirit rather than the Human one make a similar transition so that the Corupted Human Spirit of Light can also have Vulture inspired evolution to match the corrupted Dark Beast Spirit. I'd keep the shield and Lance as the weapons as I really like your reasoning for including that in the design I'd just change up the armor a little bit so it looks like a matching pair with the Dark Vulture Digimon.
BTW... the other Spirits in Frontier are all villains and could possibly be corrupted versions already anyway so if you ever do a part 2 to this creating alternate versions of them they should probably be the purified versions of those spirits.
Sup, I’m the ice boy. I actually did end up doing a fair bit of research into how the “evil,” spirits worked after the fact. Water, earth, metal, and wood were described somewhere as being brought to life by Cherubimon if memory serves. And while that does heavily imply they are “corrupted,” due to that within the canon, outside of it they are the only human and beast spirits we have. Between that and the fact that even after freeing them from Cherubimon’s influence by the end of frontier, they remained the same for their final appearances, I’d say it’s safe to corrupt them further, rather than purify them.
Hell yes!! My absolute favorite Digimon season!! I feel old as hell, though that is probably because I'm a dad now. But I love this concept. Thank you Karn for this great idea!!

All of the corrupted forms were amazing.
I really liked Zoe’s corrupted forms set the most, Tommy’s was second.
However my favorite stand alone corrupted form was the corrupted flame Beast Spirit. That flaming snake was amazing 10/10.
By far my favorite one is The corrupted human spirit of Flame. It looks like it was pulled straight out of Shin Megami Tensei and I'm a huge sucker for that
Earth, Water, Wood and Steel should have PURIFIED spirits, since the 4 warriors we saw were technically corrupted by Cherubimon/Lucemon.

Yeah, if you take into consideration that the Ancients don't look anything like the individual spirits, it kinda gives me the feeling that the plot point about purifying those spirits was dropped from the series

I love these. The ice spirits are definitely my favourite. I really appreciate the care that went into the background and symmetry of the light Digimon. My one note is that I can't really see the light element in Fenrirmon. Maybe it's the colouring, but it looks more like the absence of light than a corrupted light. I feel like one kick-ass attack could turn that around, though.
As much as I was disappointed in Frontier as a Digimon series, it is definitely the most fun in terms of "what if?" scenarios. I have a strong affinity to the spirits of steel and wood (due largely to a personal connection via Chinese astrology), so I would absolutely love to see you give corrupted spirits, Advance Hybrid forms, etc. to the remaining four. I'll be patient, though.

My favs are definitely the corrupted fire spirits HLR was right about differently colored fires, it adds an intensity to corrupted forms like Shinegreymon Ruin Mode
Talking about the part where you talk about liking artists using their own cultural background in designing new Digimon, maybe a series of videos about digimon-lines (or single digimon) that represent certain countries could be a fun idea for the future. Especially if based on some of the lesser known countries around the world.

I definitely love the concept of alternative corrupted heroes, from franchises like Transformers (Optimus and Nemesis Prime) as well as Kamen Rider (most of the main protagonist rider and the black/monochrome version based on the main rider). Would like to see a Digimon season based on the concept of alternate reality, where the heroes will fight against villain versions of themselves, just like Kamen rider Ryuki and Ryuga. (If there already is a season that has that, I'm sorry. Just recently got into Digimon a few months ago)

I wish there was a digimon frontier 02 or something. It’s my favourite season, spirit digivolution is my favourite kind of digivolution ( only followed by tamer matrix digivolution because I hate when the tamer just is there like tai on greymons head ) and I hate having this series ended that long ago
With all the mythology basis I picture the corrupted earth spirit as a Gorgon since the most famous one, Medusa, has the ability to turn people to stone, plus if it was based on a Gorgon/Medusa Mercurymon could be the digimon equivalent of Perseus due to Perseus using his shield's reflection to avoid looking directly at Medusa, and Mercurymon has the ability to reflect attacks.

Ooo, I once took my own spin on a corrupted spirit of light, but I leaned more on Duskmon. Ie. Where Duskmon was covered in eyes, the corrupted light spirit would be covered in mouths, with it's eyes covered, and small blades of light that emerge from mouths replacing it's hands. The beast spirit was based on a spider bc I wanted to make a wolf spider pun so not mentioning that.
It's really cool to see how different two people can image corrupting the same spirit!
Giving every digimon a corrupt version is the coolest idea ever (maybe because im edgy idk?) i wish you can do more of this and making a fan made corrupt version of that digimon is genius

Everyone always says that Frontier would have been better if the kids had partners, but I'm here to say that actually would have sucked. Assuming we stick with the whole concept of the kids becoming the Digimon that Frontier had, them doing so by combining with their partner Digimon would just feel like biomerging from Tamers. Really, what they should have done was have the spirits of the ancient Digimon inhabit the human spirits of their respective element. Instead of it being like they typical Digimon partnership where two comrades grow together as equals, it would be more akin to a mentor mentee relationship. The spirits could guide the kids on their journey and teach them to use their newfound powers. While the kids could reawaken the passion they all had in the battle against Lucemon.

I am so happy that you did a video and art based on my and many other's suggestions of corrupted versions of the other spirits! I love it and I love the corrupted version of the spirits of fire! I love the way the corrupted human spirit looks more beast than man and he doesn't have much of a face like Mercurymon! so its a nice parallel hell, with the way they both have humanoid forms but aren't really human-looking, since mercurymon looks more like a walking mirror while Cherufemon looks like a walking magma pillar! I wonder will he be cruel and ruthless to Agnimon's kindness and compassion?

blue fire is natural though, fire changes color based on how hot it burns, also, how much it waves is an indicator of how hot it is with the hottest flames being nearly still.
Personally I think using Jormungandr might have been a better choice for inspiration for the corrupted beast spirit of light. My reasoning is if the beast spirit of darkness goes from a lion to a bird. then going from a wolf to a snake would make more sense. Since darkness and light are counter parts if the corrupted version of one takes to the skies then the other should conquer the depths. and it still goes with the whole Norse inspiration thing you were going for.
I really like the artist who did Light n Thunder, they really took the time to make it fit into Digimons style.
there is also Hades Blue fiery hair in Disney's Hercules that supports the evil fire thing, usually they have blue coloured fire because blue fire is hotter than regular fire thus evil XD.

Hey Karn! I am actually trying to do a Digimon Frontier What-If-The-Enemy-Spirits were the Heroic Spirits kind of thing. In this case, I am trying to find the "decorrupted" spirits of Wood, Earth, Water, and Steel. I treat them with the '5 elements of Japanese/Chinese divination/Onmyoroyoji" and historical stories. All I have are rough sketches, but I would be willing to contribute to any of the videos you post next month or if you decide on doing this. I am using these as practice and I am a newcomer so please keep that in mind :)
In Chinese mythology, the Red God or the Red Deity (Agnimon) is destroyed by the Yellow Deity (Saturn/Earth/in Vedic he is Shani). I am making the human forms based on Vedic Mythology of the planets.

I can imagine the lore surrounding fenrirmon and the tale of fenrir biting the arm of Norse god (cannie recall) being mimiced in a episode. Like a test of human challenging the transformation. But thats my 2cents
