    I have the 168000, which I bought new near the end of its production run. Until recently, when I temporarily removed the bracelet, I always thought that it was a 16800 as indicated on the warranty card. Even my Rolex AD was surprised to learn about this undocumented transitional upgrade. For years, I had regretted not waiting a few months and buying the subsequent model 16610 instead, but now I appreciate having this transitional Sub from the era before the maxi case. Still running strong today as if new.

      Awesome - that'll certainly quell those 16610 regrets!

    Great videos. You don't have a annoying voice and you have a great passion for watches. Keep making videos. I like when you just go into shops and record whats on the market. I enjoy the longer videos as well. Great job sir.

    Service paperwork will show 168000. Also Rolex introduced 904L stainless steel Submariner in 1985. Therefore the the production run for the 168000 is 1985 to 1987. I would suggest that the 168000 exists because the switch to 904L and the 3135 movement did not quite synchronise. This watch does not attract a premium therefore there is no reason for anyone to add the extra zero. As the extra zero was added to existing 16800 cases then it is possible that the extra zero is misaligned on a genuine 168000.

    • @mzdbow
      @mzdbow 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Harry Flashman the use of 904L in 1985 was the Seadweller not the Submariner.

    • @harryflashman9495
      @harryflashman9495 4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Mariano ZD I beg to differ. The Rolex Magazine Issue 6, p. 35: ‘The Rolex Submariner was the first Rolex watch to be made from 904L steel....’ There is no better source of information on Rolex than the company itself.

      Mariano ZD There are no 16800 in 904L steel. That is my point: the 168000 dates from 1985.

    Matte dial, open 6 and 9 but also a flat 4. The bezelinlay should also have the flat 4.

  • @underachievingwatchcollect1878

    I learn something new everyday! Rolex makes tons of watches every year and I think these transitional pieces are nothing more than Rolex using up excess old parts or using new parts because of supply chain,logistics,etc. production amounts and timing issues. A great example is why some models still have the 3135 and the rest have 3235- I think they’re using their old stuff in models they know will sell anyways. Great video as always.

    • @watchsymposium
      @watchsymposium  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Yes, that's a great point. Using up a stock of parts is a factor indeed. Another instance (I think) are the short hands on the 39mm Explorer Mark 1, and subsequently got longer (and fit correctly).

    Like a z and from my findings that’s a 1/10 rarity also

    Transitional models and small variation in Rolex vintage & net-vintage pieces are fun! A little off topic, but the last Rolex watch to be produced with aluminum bezel was the submariner 16610, right (2010)? 16710 & 16600 both ended prod. in 2008/2009.

      Paulienkham Vaiphei oh right, yes- it’s still in the same place. The reference number is at 12 o clock between the lugs and the serial number is at 6 o clock, but you can also see the serial number in the rehaut. You’ll have to take the bracelet off to see the engraving between the lugs.

    I came here thro' search engine that I want to see some fine example of triple zero and I am disappointed - too much of you talking and not showing the watch enough - just my two cents. Video aside, few glimpse on the watch showed two problems, first its definity being over-polished; second the end-link doesn't look right, it fits too well and looks a bit like SEL while Rolex at this period should have hollow end links, again just my two cents
