    Thank you! After watching other videos for hours, this is the only one that walked me through BASIC recording and mixdown. A fine place to start. Thanks for not getting lost in complexities and zillions of considerations and DAW crap.

    Thank you so much for this easy to understand tutorial. I bought a Model 16 but the instructions you get from Tascam are totally inadequate and overly complex. No way could I understand how to use it from what they provide. after watching your video I can suddenly use it and realise what an incredible desk it is. Tascam should pay some serious attention to this -Thank you again - you e saved the day...more please!

    Once you export to the SD card and delete separate tracks it will not let you record ANYTHING with your free tracks to the track exported to SD card. Add more tracks to that recording. I think you want to get menu to mtr. Click on that and go to track edit. Click on that. Go to track swap and click on that. Then pick track you want everything to go to. Then clear separate recorded channel and you might be able to add more tracks to that. Once you export to SD card your all done recording . That is your final mix.

    0:00 Intro
    0:28 Recording a track (part 1)
    4:09 set up 'song' on SD card (should have started with this)
    4:43 recording a track (part 2)
    5:46 record a second track (or 3rd/4th etc)
    6:48 adding reverb / FX
    8:31 MIX DOWN (same process as BOUNCE)

    Enjoyed the tutorial! I have a M24 that I use as a mixer into my DP32. The M24 opens allot of doors in our recording process. Listen to Blue Leech on Neutral Earth’s album- Current, Volts & Ohms (TH-cam). The songs was primarily recorded by myself and then recorded track by track on to the DP32. Was extremely happy with the results.

      @daroanvimusen ปีที่แล้ว +1

      one question please. What does the Model 24 do that you can't do when record on the DP32? More channels at once for drums etc?

    • @twelveouncetrance4034
      @twelveouncetrance4034 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Yes, recording more tracks simultaneously is one advantage. If I play a guitar part and record it on the m24, with my hands freed up I can then play that recorded part onto the master dp32. That includes manipulating the sound with m24 efxs; fading the part in and out; as well as panning considerations, etc. If you listen to the Blue Leech song, the panning efxs and the m24 set on the ping pong efx, really enhanced the stereo separation aspects of that song. All that said, there are qualities/features of the dp32 that the m24 cannot touch. For instance, I copy, cut, paste and move parts all over our songs. You can’t do that with the m24. So in tandem the two really work for me.

      The song is on Neutral Earth-Current, Volts & Ohms (here on TH-cam). It is the fifth song @ 20:27. I’m the “Joe” 1/2 of Neutral Earth. I used the m24 on the majority of the songs on the album.

      oh wait: Chat GPT says....
      Yes, with the Tascam Model 16, you can indeed route input from one channel to another track for recording or monitoring purposes. Here's how you can do it:
      Select the Input Source: Ensure that the input source you want to route is connected to Input 1 on the Tascam Model 16.
      Access the Routing Options: On the Tascam Model 16, navigate to the channel settings or routing menu. This can typically be accessed via the touchscreen interface or using physical controls on the mixer.
      Assign Input to a Different Track: Within the routing menu, locate the option to assign the input source (Input 1 in this case) to a different track. You may need to specify the desired destination track number where you want the input signal to be routed.
      Monitor or Record: After routing the input to a different track, you can use this setup for monitoring during a recording session or for recording the input onto the newly assigned track.
      The specifics of how to access and configure these settings can vary slightly based on the Tascam Model 16's interface and firmware version, so consult the user manual for detailed instructions tailored to your specific mixer model. This flexibility in routing allows for versatile recording and monitoring setups to suit different audio production needs.

    Hi Dean, I'm interested in multi track recording (in a DAW). I have a question for you. When you record in multi track (on a DAW), are the EQ and effects recorded for each channel? Or the effects are only recorded when you bounce the Master (like your Video)? Thanks

      I use a tiny bit of compression right to the individual tracks when I'm recording, and I assign effects to a bus so there's less cpu , in other words for during mixdown.

    None of this works for me...
    I used to record on tape for years, & did my final mixes on a PC with a mic input jack. But my new laptop doesn't have one, so I'm having trouble....
    I can take out the SD card but the tracks aren't EQ'd, panned or leveled how they were on the model 12...so I would have to re-EQ, get the levels right, pan things how I want to, ALL OVER AGAIN....that just makes it pretty pointless & a huge waste of time.
    So how can I mixdown FROM the model 12 itself onto my laptop???

    • @deanwolfechannel
      @deanwolfechannel  3 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Ok, here's some ideas:
      To assist with mixing down from your Tascam Model 12 onto your laptop, follow these steps:
      1. Understand the Signal Flow and Connectivity
      The Tascam Model 12 has multiple connectivity options, including USB, which is likely the best way to interface with your laptop for mixdown purposes.
      2. Set Up the Tascam Model 12 for USB Audio Interface Mode
      Connect the Tascam Model 12 to your Laptop via USB:
      Use a USB cable to connect the Model 12 to your laptop. Ensure the Model 12 is powered on.
      Switch the Model 12 to USB Audio Interface Mode:
      On the Model 12, press the MENU button.
      Navigate to the SYSTEM settings.
      Select USB and ensure it is set to AUDIO INTERFACE.
      3. Configure Your Laptop's Audio Settings
      Install Necessary Drivers (if required):
      Depending on your laptop's operating system, you may need to install drivers for the Model 12. Check Tascam's website for the latest drivers and software.
      Select the Model 12 as the Audio Input/Output Device:
      On Windows:
      Open Settings > System > Sound.
      Under Input and Output, select the Tascam Model 12 as the device.
      On Mac:
      Open System Preferences > Sound.
      Under Input and Output, select the Tascam Model 12.
      4. Use Digital Audio Workstation (DAW) Software
      Open Your DAW:
      Use software like Audacity (free), GarageBand (Mac), Reaper, Pro Tools, Ableton Live, etc.
      Configure the DAW to Use the Model 12:
      In the DAW's audio settings/preferences, set the Tascam Model 12 as the input and output device.
      Record Your Mixdown:
      On the Model 12, create your mix with all the EQ, panning, and level adjustments.
      In your DAW, create a new stereo track and set it to record from the stereo output of the Model 12.
      Press record in the DAW and play your mix on the Model 12. The DAW will capture the audio as it is played.
      5. Export the Recorded Mix
      Edit and Finalize in the DAW:
      Once recorded, you can do any final adjustments in the DAW if necessary.
      Export the Mix:
      Export the recorded mix as a stereo audio file (e.g., WAV, MP3) from the DAW.
      By following these steps, you should be able to mix down from the Tascam Model 12 onto your laptop without losing your EQ, panning, and level settings, making your workflow much more efficient

    • @JakeStrange66
      @JakeStrange66 3 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @@deanwolfechannel I've tried thw USB method. Don't get any sound unless I'm in DAW mode. I don't want DAW mode. I've recorded on all the tracks on yhe model 12... Daw only lets you use channels 1 & 2.
      So I want to mix down everything I've recorded.
      The ONLY way I've found so far to do that is with an adapter to hook up with the main outs & use a computer or another mix down deck....
      But my new computer only has USB inputs & I don't have any signal except in DAW mode

    • @deanwolfechannel
      @deanwolfechannel  3 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @@JakeStrange66 It sounds like you're facing a bit of a challenge with your setup. Since you've tried the USB method and are only getting sound in DAW mode, let's explore another option.
      If you want to mix down everything you've recorded on the Tascam Model 12 without using DAW mode, you could try the following:
      Using the Main Outs:
      As you mentioned, you can use an adapter to hook up the main outs of the Tascam Model 12 to your computer.
      Ensure you have the correct adapter (likely a 1/4" TRS to 3.5mm stereo or similar) to connect the main outs to your computer's USB inputs.
      Adjust the volume levels on the Model 12 and your computer to ensure proper signal flow without distortion.
      Selecting the Correct Input Source on Your Computer:
      Once connected, make sure your computer recognizes the input source.
      Go to your computer's sound settings and ensure that the correct input source (the one connected to the Model 12) is selected and the volume levels are adjusted appropriately.
      Monitoring the Sound:
      You may need to monitor the sound through headphones or speakers connected to your computer to hear the mix from the Tascam Model 12.
      Mixing Down:
      With the main outs connected to your computer, you should be able to mix down your recordings directly onto your computer without using DAW mode on the Model 12.
      If you're still encountering issues, double-check your connections and settings to ensure everything is properly configured. Additionally, you might want to consult the Tascam Model 12 user manual or reach out to Tascam customer support for further assistance tailored to your specific setup and needs.

      @@deanwolfechannel problem is, the computer I was using to mix down from the main outs has a mic input jack. But that computer recently started having a lot of problems.
      My new laptop doesn't have a mic input jack. It only has USB inputs & a headphone jack. That's all it has.

      @@JakeStrange66 It sounds like you're dealing with quite the dilemma. Losing the mic input jack on your old computer and now having only USB inputs and a headphone jack on your new laptop definitely complicates things.
      Given your current setup, here are a couple of potential solutions to consider:
      USB Audio Interface:
      Since your laptop only has USB inputs, investing in a USB audio interface could be the key to solving your problem.
      Connect the main outs of your Tascam Model 12 to the inputs of the USB audio interface.
      Then, connect the USB audio interface to your laptop via USB.
      With this setup, you should be able to route the audio from your Tascam Model 12 directly into your laptop without needing a mic input jack.
      USB-C to Audio Adapter:
      If your laptop has USB-C ports, you might be able to use a USB-C to audio adapter.
      Connect the main outs of your Tascam Model 12 to the adapter.
      Then, plug the adapter into one of the USB-C ports on your laptop.
      This adapter should allow you to input audio directly into your laptop through its USB-C port.
      Before purchasing any new equipment, make sure to double-check compatibility and read reviews to ensure that the solution you choose will work effectively with your specific laptop and Tascam Model 12 setup. It's frustrating to encounter these kinds of compatibility issues, but with a bit of troubleshooting and the right equipment, you should be able to find a solution that works for you.

      Will be recording new music soon...I've barely broken my model 16 in. I'm guessing you can set a marker and just mix down from the marker? Or drop final file into a daw and trim it there?

      Unfortunately, you can't apply more than one effect at a time using the built-in TASCAM effects. If you want separate effects then use external pedals.

    luckily you did not use a drum machine or groove box or synth or arpeggio or rhythm that has a tempo. well voice sync and overdub lol, I can do that with a 30-dollar all-in-one toy music microphone.

    • @stefanie_m466
      @stefanie_m466 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      So as clear, you need a computer to sync al your gear. The computer reads the mtc and sends the midi beat to midi devices. Uuh adding a midi clock like the model12 would have been so much more to this mixer.

    This is one of the jankiest, least functional pieces of gear I have had the displeasure of touching. Cheap construction, lousy software onboard and outboard, loose and just gross feeling knobs right out of the box. This thing feels like it came out of a Fisher Price box. Pathetic. Returning ASAP.
