How to do a final mix. I started using this today and the manual is not very clear about how to get a final product that you could put on, say, TH-cam or iTunes. Great if you could cover that.
I’m stuck in the 90’s so I think this board is for me. I think I’ll get the 16 cause I like to spread out my sounds from my MPC and do my own drops manually.
I’ve been recording on a DAW for a long time and got a Model 12 to simplify and reel it back to my old days. Creatively shot through the roof. I love that thing. Tbh I built a room in my basement to have a nice place to record because of it.
Thanks, Jerome and congratulations! This song is on Bandcamp and Spotify; it's a different recording but you can find it under the band Be Cool Cowboy and the song is Operation: Hollandaise. Thanks for watching and listening.
Thank you for this! I have written over 900 songs in the last 3 years, recently on the DP-24 and model 24. I have bought a model 12 so I can record songs in my motorhome/RV. Thank you for this, can't wait to get it!
Go for it! I'm going to be recommending the 12 to people from now on over the 4-tracks. The prices are insane for the 424s these days. The only con with the 12 is that it doesn't record to cassette. Other than that, as far as I['m concerned, it's a 424 mkiv
Thx so much for this series! I would be heavily interested in learning about the MIDI Synced recording options. I want to record a nice arp one day and then add the drums (from digitakt) another day without any sync issues!
My pleasure and thanks for watching. I really need to dig deeper into the MIDI functionality myself. I've been using the Digitakt as the brain of my setup; maybe that is something you could try as well...
I believe if you press the "INST" button right next to the "LOW CUT" the signal gains a significant boost. According to the manual, the instrument button is there to lower the gain on pre-amplified signals. To me it looks like you had it unswitched from the video which is perhaps why the signal on the 5th channel sounded so low.
So when you hit "save" after final mix, what is next? The device at this point saves the individual tracks used. How do you save the song (without using a DAW) as one file to convert to a different format?
Great videos! And sweet song made in under an hour! I've been trying to decide between the Tascam 12 and the Zoom Livetrack 12 for multi tracking without a laptop, and watching your series is making me lean towards the Tascam, sweet lil mixer!
Haha thanks, Lucas. I'm sorry to get the G. A. S. going! But yeah, this is a killer mixer/recorder. I'll be doing more videos on it this fall/winter. It's very similar to the 424 workflow
Actually there is a way to bus that might work on model 12. You can do it by using your inserts. Normally an Insert sends the signal through a Y cable to an external hardware's input and then from the exterrnal hardware's output the signal returns through the channel's insert. Try to put the connector to the insert on model 12 halfway through, meaning you just want to connect the part of the connector that just sends the signal, not the part that is used for the return. So now the signal will not loop, it will go out from the channel without the need to return to it, you now have to insert the other end of the cable to the channel line input you want to bus it. Try it, and let me know!
It appears ro me that the green light on COMP compression is always illuminated in the video even when dialed to the OFF setting yet mine only lights up at higher settings. Why is that?
After you "SAVE" the song can you take out the SD card with the song on it? I thought I heard that if you shut down it will erase all your work, meaning you have to keep the card inserted till you finish ALL of your music. That seems absurd. Also, what is that black cord that's in the top right corner plugged into? It's to the right of the 4 blue knobs. Thanks.
I have tried difference way to record video and my songs with Tascam effects through USB with my android Smart phone like I do with my audio interface , however it does't work, it mean I can't record anything over USB with OTG adapter to my phone. I even can't find any instruction in manual book. I just want to sing and with my guitar , my video come directly from the tascam.
@@424Recording Hey, thx for remembering me, lol. Only now saw this. Maybe the wrong post, but I had a generalized comment, lol. Since cassettes have made a comeback, I wonder why Tascam or someone don't start making 4-tracks again. I have the feeling that will nvr happen. I had the very 1st Teac 144 (sic?) which I flipped millions of burgers and sold 3 kidneys for. I paid $850, USED, in 1981. Gear used to be butt-ass expensive then. Since 4-track cassette is well on it's way to being dead (regretfully), at least it's not like there's a huge paucity of multitracking means. In my...excuse my blasphemy... *ahem*... *hem* *haw*...uhh... DAWs... please don't kick me in the scrote... there are a lot of free and cheap VSTs; "Vintager Toy" is a cool free one. It actually has a dial where you can dial in the year you want to sound like... I choose "1966" a lot. And there's a VST of a consumer reel tape recorder which was sold in Japan during the 60s, called "Reels", by Audio...something lol, which does lo fi/tape REALLY well. And many full-range studio-grade tape sims out there will lend good color to things. And VST tube compressors, such as the free Klanghelm "MJUC jr", which made my throw-together drumkit based around a kid's Stagg drumkit, with "real" cymbals and hi hat, extra "real" floor tom added, sound crazy great. I think I'm pretty damn punk rock for using stuff like that, hahaha. And honestly it doesn't sound bad at all, Stagg know how to make them. Next time yr in a music store that's got a mini "toy" drumkit on display, check it out, mine is a blast, lol. Idk, I'm just expressing all is not necessarily lost bc of the demise of 4TC, although that sucks. That sharp device you're demoing here is a pretty major "band aid" for quelling the no 4-track "ouchie" to a degree! Great song!
@@424Recording You're a mutual fan of SansAmp as I recall. There's a free VST of the 2nd iteration of the SansAmp, called "No Amp", and there's a free VST of the PSA rack!
Love your material and bought some tapes. I guess the Model 12 is ok but it doesn’t have the “mojo” of tape. The cool thing about a cassette mtr is it’s limitations, which is similar to painting with watercolor….you leave much to chance and that is the essence of the medium. The Model 12 sounds like going straight into a DAW. I really dig your analog productions. I’m old so just my 2 cents. Always love your vids!
Heyoooo maybe you can help? I want to start re amping my recordings. I basically need to send signal out of my DAW and into a reamp box so I get new tones with my pedals and amps. Can I send a signal out of my daw and out of the Tascam or do I need an audio interface with outputs? If I can do it with the Tascam how would I do that? Thanks!
How do you format the SD card for the model 12? I literally just got mine & I'm not seeing anything about it in the manual or anything online except for the model 24. 🤷
can we adjust the volume of each invidual track after that the recording is done ? I did record 4 different but when I play it back and I move the main cursor of each track the volume doesn't change ....
Love that song could you do a video on what to do after youve saved all your tracks, the final mix etc so you can export and play the finished song with effects added .... many thanks.
maaaaan, thanks alot for this! But you missed out on how to export the song? Is it possible to export all tracks seperate, with the EQ and effects still on it?
Wait! You need to show how to bounce all that down to one stereo track! This was a great tutorial. I used a Roland VS 1680 for years (20 years ago), so a lot of this is similar. But the analog knobs for all the tracks is great. I intended to get one of these soon. However, on the Roland, you could click and assign all those tracks to a stereo track and do a big mix down to clear up tracks and keep going. How do you do that here? I would mix it all down and “master’ a final mix. Can you show that ? I bet you have to take your master out (stereo) and patch it in to the far left stereo track? Nice. Old school. Like me. Would love to see it done. This was awesome. Thank you for all that work. Lucky you.
Oh, yeah, that video is on the list, bouncing and mix down. In terms of the bounce, there's something called "swapping tracks" in the manual. It's basically bouncing. It's definitely coming soon, in early 2021. Happy recording!
Got a lot out of your recording sessions here. I was hoping that you would show how to work with trax 7/8 and 9/10. I just purchased the Model 12. The one thing I am searching to figure out is how to use those four channels separately. I was hoping in the menu settings, after tracking there would be a way to have full use of those channels. If I hear you right that is not feasible (if recording to the SD card/using the mixer. to gain full control I would have to use my DAW, Correct? (7 defaults to a hard left pan, 8 to a hard right pan, 9 to a hard left pan, 10 to a hard right pan.)
Glad to help, Mike. I haven't hooked mine up to a DAW yet but multitracking, I have not figured out a way to isolate 7 from 8 or 9 from 10. They're stereo inputs but function like a mono channel. They're really great for any type of stereo inputs. I wonder if you could record them like that, record once panning all the way to the right, and record again panning all the way to the left... it should isolate them as separate tracks but they'd still only be able to be controlled with the one fader...
@@424Recording I am recording live practice recordings (and its what I bought it for), so I don't have the option to track separately. I tried to use the 4 inputs for drums. However the signal on the XLR inputs is WAY stronger than the 1/4" inputs. My thought is to use adapters for the two XLR (not ideal) inputs to see if it evens out the signals.
Oh, gotcha. Hmm that's interesting. Maybe it would make sense to have a smaller drum mixer and then run the outs of that mixer into one of the stereo inputs on the Model 12. But I guess it depends how much mixing you want to do in post to the drums, as you'll only have a stereo image of the mics from the drum mixer to work with. You could also try preamps to raise the signal before going into the line inputs
@@424Recording I was just talkin with the store rep (has a recording background) and he has also been directly in contact with Tascam about this. The board is meant to ONLY take the line level in Or the XLR in on either of those channels. I brought up using a mic pre and sounds like that would still have issues. He suggested for my situation either get creative with mic'ing the drums or go to the Model 16 for 10 direct XLR inputs. BTW thank you for your quick responses.
I've had the Model12 for a couple months now and it's a really fun unit to play around with. These videos are extremely useful, so thanks dude! Any future videos planned on different methods for exporting the completed songs or individual tracks?
Great to hear! Yeah! Same here. I've been enjoying the workflow and the Model 12 solves a lot of issues I've had around the home studio. Yup! I'm planning many more future vids around the Model 12. Thanks for the suggestion! I'll definitely do an export methods video soon! Cheers and thanks for watching!
I have another question.. When in Cubase mode with a VST instrument loaded unto a channel, if I use the Mod 12 fader to control Cubases' track gain for that track, it also changes the pitch of the VST instrument as the volume goes up and down. It behaves as though the CC value assigned to the fader is mapped to both volume for the track and pitch control. Any ideas?
You played back your final mix but is there a way to save it? I just got a Model 12 and have done the 'stereo mix export' but it ignores my mix settings and comes out the same every time.
Okay, I got this sorted! This video helped: th-cam.com/video/32z2H9iGv-k/w-d-xo.html Cool thing I found, you can play back what you record on the Main channel by clicking the SD MAIN MIX RETURN button to audition the mixdown. So relieved to find this workflow!
Dude, that Silvertone guitar sounds so much like Beck. I got to a play a friend's Silvertone recently and thought, gee this sounds familiar. It's also the Be Cool Cowboy guitar. Thanks for this vid Mike. I'm still kinda torn between the Model 12 and Model 24. I mean, 24 tracks sounds really awesome for recording a full band with a few overdubs. But the Model 12 is the only one that's a DAW controller, and it would be really rad to have that interactivity where moving knobs and faders for mixing and EQ in post, but then I could save those settings in the DAW. But I guess these work just as well as standalone units, like a digital 424 with may more tracks and no need to bounce. I hardly use the 424 anymore, just for acoustic demos or playing backwards tape or messing with the tape speed. Hope all is well Mike!
Yo man a video of you using it as an interface, recording to the daw for some edits or whatever then summing it back through the mixer for an analogue mix, final mix of the song then printing that mix to the daw or tape or just even back fo the model 12, theres so much things you can do with these machines , good tunes as well there man nice chilled sound
Thanks, dude! Great suggestions. I definitely need to explore more of the functionality. I want to try recording to this, then bounce to the 4-track back to this and see what happens. Might be fun to do bass and drums on the 4-track and record them to this as well
424 Recording yeah defo man a-lot of effort but would be cool to record a minute of a song on the tascam and mix just on the board, then the same minute with the tascam as an interface straight to the daw and mix in the box and then the same again but analog sum it back through the console and see what mix sounds the best out the 3, sounds like a pain but would be a cool experiment maybe even print one to taps lol
Nice straightforward video! Didn't lose my patience like I tend to do during this kind of "walkthrough video." Wanted to try and find out what effect you were using on that guitar solo-- I'm sort of willfully ignorant of anything more exotic than a fuzzbox, but that sounded pretty cool. So I must know! Commendations, again, on a video well made.
Yeah, same here, re: effects. The ones I have are Zvex Super Duper, Tech 21 Sansamp, and the EHX Pog. I've used these for years. I use the Pog for all of the solos. It's an octave pedal. It really helps to thicken up solos without needing to do multiple layers. Highly recommend as it sounds like we're both "less effects is more" kind of people. I'm glad to hear the tutorial was watchable as well. It's taken a few years to get here, it'll probably take a couple more. There's a part one, too, if you're interested. Cheers and happy recording and thanks for watching!
@@424Recording I watched both parts actually! I'll leave a like on the other. Think I'm gonna go have a look at a Pog. I can see a lot of potential there. Pretty impressed with how much "heft" you got out of that solo. Thanks for the reply!
Thanks for checking out both parts! Cool! Yeah, check one out, re: Pog. Another thing that is cool to do is drop your guitar an octave. If you mess with the tone knob, you can get some 70's plunky bass sort of sounding bass guitar. Cheers and happy recording
Tbh I’m stuck in choosing the appropriate mixer. I’m in between a Korg MW mixer or the new Tascam Models. I own a TR8, TB3, Korg KP3, Microkorg, CDJ, MPC, Guitar, Piano, Bass Guitar, a Boss Over-Drive Pedal, and a Boss Sp Sampler as of right now. So for a total of 11 hardware pieces/equipment what mixers are generally suggested? (including channel wise) I’m new to music and producing and would like to learn how to a build a workflow with mixer integration. Thank you!
You'd probably want to look into the Model 16 or 24 given the amount of inputs. I'm new to this workflow, too, but I like the idea of having each on of your instruments patched into different channels and then recording whatever you need for a given project. I'm really enjoying the Model 12 and it solves a lot of problems in my home studio setup, mainly routing audio from different sources into one set of monitors. Even just for that, it is dope! Good luck and happy recording!
The cassette has more of a noisy/closed sound where as the digital recorder on the 12 is more open sounding? But yeah, the 424 just has that unique, cozy quality that's impossible to replicate!
I was just doing this yesterday. I used the XLR main outs of the 12 to channels 1 and 2 on the Tascam 424. Just make sure to pan the channels on the 424
Hi, is it possible to record all tracks individually onto the SD card whilst mixing on the Tascam? E.g. record live mixing directly onto the mixer and save as new track?
Hi - interested why you are not using your input meters to set up you gain trim before messing with the faders… seems like you are guessing a bit on you gain staging? No offence meant, but really setting the input gain first using the input meters on the large LED panel (to -12dB is good) - you want each track to about -12dB so that when summing all tracks to the master buss you are not going 'over'. Otherwise really informative :) Duh - I guess I should have watched part 1 first.... where you do indeed set up at -12dB LOL - Sorrrreeeeeee! Forgive my noobness for watching the videos out of sequence :)
Hahaha I probably should have done a recap. My intention was to put them up as one tutorial but this is the first time I was working with 4K and the files are enormous and unwieldy. Gain staging would make a great video idea btw! Thanks for watching and happy recording!
Hi, thanks for the video. Please could somebody provide or point me to the correct information or forum that helps clarify what is going on with EQ, compression and effects on this machine and how to successfully mix down to stereo final mix on the SD card. Despite reading the manual and viewing all sorts of social media content, I am still unsure what is going on here. If for example you are tracking multiple channels at once, e.g. vox and guitar simultaneously, how do you use the mixer's EQ. Do you EQ post tracking, what gets recorded live or are there options?? How do you produce a final stereo mix within the machine using all the EQ etc capabilities within the unit??? If you are moving channel faders real time as you mix a song to stereo, how does that get saved etc? Apologies if I am being totally thick here but it all seems extremely obscure. Ideally I want to use this unit totally stand alone when recording/producing a song, or do you have to use a DAW to mix the final product effectively. Thanks in anticipation.
@@424Recording @424 Recording Hi thanks for this but as I mentioned above I have already read the manual and it really doesn't seem to help with my questions. Was hoping that someone who is using one would be able to de-mystify this product as a functional standalone especially when recording more than one channel at once. There seems to be talk of work arounds such as making a bus and routing a channel using eq and fx back through a stereo channel and I really want to understand more. I guess from this that you are using a DAW too rather than editing completely to SD card. Kind regards.
Good videos. It would be great to see a tutorial using a daw and vst plugins with the model 12 as the audio card and using software for the recording. Then maybe saving the final mix to the SD card.
Hi Leigh, the new OS/Logic Pro roll out has slowed down Logic to the point where I can't record more than a few tracks without it crashing. The only thing I can think to do is roll back to an earlier OS and an early version of Logic. I've tried adjusting the buffer and a couple other things suggested online but none seem to work. There's a considerable delay on recording as well. Idk, it's a mess. I also need the computer for work and it needs to stay up to date so I'm kind of at an impasse
Quick question.. I just picked up the Mod 12. After I record to the SD and save the file, my transport control pause/stop button remains lit . How do I unload the song to reset back to normal? Only way I’ve been able to do it is to delete the song.. turning off/on doesn’t do it.
@@424Recording its a new card, which I have formatted and tested by copying wave files to my PC and back and also used to upgrade the Tascam mod 12 firmware. the card is fine.. I will play around a bit more.. It's possible it was some transient state, I assume once you save the file and get off MTR mode, the transport controls should basically turn off until needed again.. Thanks for the quick response. I'll let you know.
@@424Recording After further testing, best I can do is to get completely out of song mode. If I set it to DAW mode , for example it goes away. If I return to song mode it comes back. It's as though if it has a song loaded, it assumes transport must be active.
Great song Mike! I have been burning my projects straight to disc (have a tascam cd burner). I have been lazy to learn how "master" a mix with the top right section of this unit, there is another EQ and tone shaping section up there. I do have 2 XLR to RCA jacks that go out the main output into my cd burner, BUT i was lazy and just ran 2 quarter inch to RCA adapters out the headphone jacks straight into my cd burner. anyways, a future video about using the top right section would be great. thanks.
Thanks, bun! A quick look at that section and it looks like it's the same set of EQ controls on the tracks. I'll have to look deeper into this. If you're happy with your mix, you might not even need to use them! I think that's a good way to do it, out one of the headphone jacks. I'm 90% sure it's the same signal. Saves you from having to unplug an replug haha. Hey whatever works! I will, dude! Got a lot of ideas with this, there will be many more Model 12 videos to come!
@@424Recording Hi Mike. yeah since last spoke with you, been on vacation and been laying down lots of new material. It flows just like a Tascam 424 MKIII. Hooked up the XLR cables directly into the CD burner and been making magic,.. the maxed out setting you suggested (48/ 24 record speed) has blown my mind!! SOO!! crystal clear is the sound (compared to tape). While I do love the old sound of the way tape sounds,... this new clarity is amazing,.. it's like having fresh ears. For all the old schoolers out there,.. get a Model 12 and you'll be amazed by the clarity.. It really is like a sooped up 424. for some reason i dont get a signal when im trying to record vocals. im using the rhode nt1-a. phantom power is on plus im using daw control mode. switch is set to live... this is really driving me crazy since any other instrument works just fine and the mic even worked in a previous session but somehow i dont hear it anymore no matter what i do. any help??
@@424Recording nevermind man, but thanks for the reply. the issue was when you use the model 12 in daw control mode and you turn on phantom power, the phantom is not turned on when the red light is on. you get a message on the screen asking if you really want to turn it on. for this message to appear though i had to leave the daw control screen and turn it on again.
That was just perfect! Something I want to understand though is now that you’ve saved, will you be able to go into the SD card on a computer etc and all of you individual track WAV files will be available? If so will they have all the EQ and effects processing used from the desk? If so this is just perfect
It depends how you have the mixer function setup. I have it set to Post EQ so it uses the settings on the board. And yeah, it's all broken down by channel/track as WAVs and can be transferred to the computer. You can read more about the mixer functions here on page 45 tascam.com/downloads/products/tascam/model_12/e_model-12_om_va.pdf

(I have set Mixer to Post EQ for all channels). I save and export again. Sounds exactly the same as before! Nothing changed. I cannot figure this out
@@martindunford4573 just got it so don't pin me down on this, but i don't think the faders influence the separate tracks, only the final stereo mix. So that means it's not saved either, except in your final stereo wav.
Can I export the tracks to a DAW after I recorded everything, to work on it later with my DAW? And if so, if I used some EQ, Compressor and Effects during the recording - are these effects recorded forever or do I still have the possibility to just export the raw track without any effects? Does somebody know this?? Thank you :)
Great tips)) thanks for that)) How do you use both your UAD Apollo I just behind you and TASCAM MODEL 12? I own a Apollo Twin MKII, and I think about buying the Model 12.

Very nice video, thank you!! I have a question, I didn't understand if it is also possible to export the tracks separately, in order to mix for example on a DAW having each single track. (Maybe you already said it but I didn't hear!)
Thanks for watching! When you save a project, it saves all the tracks separately in the MTR folder. They'll be numbered according to the track they were recording onto

That sounded awesome. Really enjoyed this 2 part video.... cheers.
Glad you enjoyed it, paul!
How do you export out the tracks you mix with EQ and effects??? Awesome video and thank you!
There's a setting called Post EQ that you need to set the channels to. You can also record the master outs to another interface.
I absolutely cannot hell wait to have this machine. I will be able to create an entire body of work without an headache 🤕 of a computer.
Killer tutorial Mike!! Simply awesome...
My G.A.S is on fire right now... Gotta buy this 😂😂 Great tool for recording fast.
I kinda want to get this and a 424 MKiii and use them together. Record everything to the SD card and then take it to the daw. Thanks for the video.
Do it up, Robbie!
You remind me of Beck.👍🏽
Awesome Tutorial! The song is 🔥🔥🔥🔥 too.
Thanks, Levelle!
That guitar riff is class. Really like this tune. Also just bought a Model 12 so super excited to start using it! Thanks for the video man. 👍🏻
My pleasure, Colin! Thanks for listening and happy recording! Let me know if you have any questions!
Great tutorial and love the song. Thanks!
Just got this unit.. thank you. very informative vid.
You definitely have some math rock influences. Great info on Video. Thanks
It appears ro me that the green light on COMP compression is always illuminated in the video even when dialed to the OFF setting yet mine only lights up at higher settings. Why is that?
Did I miss something? Can this unit accept a momentary footswitch for punch in corrections ?
Very Velvet Undergroundy! Nice multitrack.
Glad you like it! And good to see you! It's been a while!
I have the model 12 and my question is can I use my own effects when recording? I would appreciate an answer.
I have a 16 and can not get the faders to work for final mixdown. Have researched this for multiple hrs....any ideas?
Love your material and bought some tapes. I guess the Model 12 is ok but it doesn’t have the “mojo” of tape. The cool thing about a cassette mtr is it’s limitations, which is similar to painting with watercolor….you leave much to chance and that is the essence of the medium. The Model 12 sounds like going straight into a DAW. I really dig your analog productions. I’m old so just my 2 cents. Always love your vids!
Ive got the model 24. when i record which is mono on track say 6 it only records to the left not middle or right, so cant pan it, i dont understand
Thanks!
You did a great job learning us from scratsch! Thanks a lot. You're very sympatic .

Love this song!
Love that song could you do a video on what to do after youve saved all your tracks, the final mix etc so you can export and play the finished song with effects added .... many thanks.
Yes I can. Great idea. I'll go through the process I've been using at some point this winter! Thanks!
@@424Recording great look forward to seeing it ..... thanks 👍
Great video again , can you explain how i can save an effect to an individual track it seems to disappear even if i save it .... thanks
Hmmm I can't say that I've tried to do that. I think you'd have to bounce it down and save it to another track
Great tutorial! Can you add some details on how to bring up effects on the channels! Thanks CD
Do the separate tracks get saved in raw or do they get saved with all the eq/comp/fx settings?
maaaaan, thanks alot for this!
Ohhh, I thought you meant the 1/4" input of the XLR, as it is a combo jack. This is good to know though. Cheers!
Reminds a bit of a NY band called Sammy for the 90. It is cool
Any ideas?
Yeah, sounds like the VST CC values need to be remapped! That's interesting
Hope all is well Mike!
this is really good dude, thanks for posting, very useful for beginners
Glad it was helpful!
HI i was wondering at what stage do you use the master EQ section ..... thanks
This is a good question. I actually haven't used it yet. I need to get some new Model 12 videos going!
E' possibile registrare direttamente da pc , il selettore va messo su live o Mtr ????? Grazie
Good luck and happy recording!
how you compare the lo-fish quality you can get from tascam 12... to the 424?... thanks!
The cassette has more of a noisy/closed sound where as the digital recorder on the 12 is more open sounding? But yeah, the 424 just has that unique, cozy quality that's impossible to replicate!
How would you recommened i record my final mix from the tascam 12 to my cassette recorder?, there isnt any RCA output plugs on the tascam
I was just doing this yesterday. I used the XLR main outs of the 12 to channels 1 and 2 on the Tascam 424. Just make sure to pan the channels on the 424
What SD Card are you using? An answer would be appreciated, thanks!
Great video, this song rules!
Hi, is it possible to record all tracks individually onto the SD card whilst mixing on the Tascam? E.g. record live mixing directly onto the mixer and save as new track?
Yeah, I think so. You can use it like a multitrack recorder, if I'm understanding your question right
Can you trim the beginning or ending of audio clips like you can on pretty much all of Tascam's older multitrack recorders?
I'm not sure how easy that would be to do that on this unit
ugh i cant wait to get mine
The tutorials will be here if you need them... happy recording!
Otherwise really informative :)
Duh - I guess I should have watched part 1 first.... where you do indeed set up at -12dB LOL - Sorrrreeeeeee!
How do you use that MTR button just below the blutooth? I thought you pushed that for playback
Hmmm, I'm not sure which button you mean, Bryan. Above the master fader?
I would check out the manual and see what it says: tascam.com/us/product/model_12/download
Cool idea, Leigh. Unfortunately, my computer is not doing that well these days but I'll keep it in mind going forward. Thanks for watching!
@@424Recording what's wrong with your computer? I am pretty technical..Maybe can help?
Hi Leigh, the new OS/Logic Pro roll out has slowed down Logic to the point where I can't record more than a few tracks without it crashing. The only thing I can think to do is roll back to an earlier OS and an early version of Logic. I've tried adjusting the buffer and a couple other things suggested online but none seem to work. There's a considerable delay on recording as well. Idk, it's a mess. I also need the computer for work and it needs to stay up to date so I'm kind of at an impasse
man what a great tutorial, great job!
Quick question.. I just picked up the Mod 12. After I record to the SD and save the file, my transport control pause/stop button remains lit . How do I unload the song to reset back to normal? Only way I’ve been able to do it is to delete the song.. turning off/on doesn’t do it.
I'm not sure, Ariel. That does not sound right. Have you formatted the SD (make sure you back it up first)?
@@424Recording its a new card, which I have formatted and tested by copying wave files to my PC and back and also used to upgrade the Tascam mod 12 firmware. the card is fine.. I will play around a bit more.. It's possible it was some transient state, I assume once you save the file and get off MTR mode, the transport controls should basically turn off until needed again.. Thanks for the quick response. I'll let you know.
Sounds good. Yeah, let me know how it shakes out. On mine, once I save it, it goes back to normal function
Quick question. You can record multitrack every channel in any DAW?
for some reason i dont get a signal when im trying to record vocals. im using the rhode nt1-a. phantom power is on plus im using daw control mode. switch is set to live... this is really driving me crazy since any other instrument works just fine and the mic even worked in a previous session but somehow i dont hear it anymore no matter what i do. any help??

@@martindunford4573 just got it so don't pin me down on this, but i don't think the faders influence the separate tracks, only the final stereo mix. So that means it's not saved either, except in your final stereo wav.
Can I save the song as a final mix and play it on any other device
Sure
Can I export the tracks to a DAW after I recorded everything, to work on it later with my DAW? And if so, if I used some EQ, Compressor and Effects during the recording - are these effects recorded forever or do I still have the possibility to just export the raw track without any effects? Does somebody know this?? Thank you :)
Can I use at the same time mics that require phantom, mics that doesn't require phantom, a guitar and the bass?
yes, only some old ribbon mics are sensitive to phantom power, guitars, line-level signals, modern mics are not.
dang brother that sounds good
Thanks!
Great tips)) thanks for that)) How do you use both your UAD Apollo I just behind you and TASCAM MODEL 12? I own a Apollo Twin MKII, and I think about buying the Model 12.
Thanks! I use the Apollo for my Mac. I was using the Model 12 for Dawless recording and also a hub for all of my audio, so I can use one set of monitors for multiple computers and setups. I don't use them in tandem at all other than to pipe in audio from the Apollo to a channel on the 12
