    OMG!! These kids are GREAT! Fantastic energy and performance - as a father of a 25yr old son, I LOVED the guitarist's reaction to his sound/ feedback/ tones, etc. His joy and energy are infectious - and the drummer's playing was GREAT and solid - and the Hertas in the fills were slick AF. I'll be following this young group for sure - thx for another great video Phil/Warren!!

      I gave this video a thumb down because they have no respect for the sounds of the original. Come together should be played pulled back. That tamed sound makes it so great. Ah whatever.

    • @bigkickleo
      @bigkickleo 2 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @@Madrrrrrrrrrrr I understand your POV - But this is a COVER - NOT an attempt at a "recreation" - when a trad Jazz quartet "takes out a song", ESPECIALLY from another genré, they NEVER set out to duplicate it - they INTERPRET, re-arrange, reimagine the song, while still paying homage to the musical inspiration the song gives them. Google: jazz version of Anthony Newman's "Pure Imagination" (a favorite of jazz musicians everywhere) - and what you are likely to find is some amazing takes on a beautiful melody and chord progressions - even without vocals. Perhaps you may not like heavy music, or even Jazz. Totally cool, but approaching a VERY creative cover such as this with an open mind can only help to expand one's appreciation of many musical styles. I definitely preferred this to Motley Crue's Helter Skelter - but bravo to them for putting their stamp on a killer classic 🤘🏻❤️

    I bought one when I realized that I wanted to go back to a more tactile felling when recording and also getting the itch to just make decisions and then live with them. One million possibilities in post just isn´t fun anymore.
    It is really versatile and will probably fit in a lot of different configurations and usages. For instance, I have found that it is a brilliant piece of gear for recording podcasts.

I did the same with a PC running a hacked version of Win 9X/ME without the Explorer module (no internet browser). 21 years that machine has survived. Slow, heavy and replaced by a Macbook Pro in 2010. Once the flat screen monitors got cheap enough, dragging that tower around with a mouse and a keyboard wasn't so bad, for a young man that is.

    Having quite a few interviews with bigger groups on the horizon, a Tascam model, probably, 16 might be a great starting point to building out a dedicated sound case. Housing the board, the mics, the lavalier setups and the various tools going with that. And being able to just plug it in at home and make some music is a lovely bonus. Thanks for the video, there are so many options out there these days that it often is the accidental inspiration for a certain piece of gear that leads to the start of a new project.

    I love the Tascam Model series. I bought the Model 12, because I prefer the digital mixer with all the advantages like using it as a DAW control. Although it looks like the 16 and 24, it is a bit different and fully digital. Despite the differences I prefer the Tascam to my more expensive interfaces, even to my analog SSL SiX. I love not having to use a computer and a mouse, just making music and pressing record. Use it at home everyday, used it as a small PA, used it for multitracking rehearsals. And one could still use a DAW later to finish a recording.

      @@meanmr.mustard hey I love the username lol. The effect you choose (typically a Reverb or delay) is across the board so it's not a per channel instance although the amount of the effect can be dialed per channel. As per your recording simultaneously within the unit and DAW itself is something that can be done. Just connect the USB, download their Tascam Driver, and you should be able to enable all 24 inputs for tracking a band. Tracks 1-12 are mono, 13-20 are stereo though channels 21,22 is a Bluetooth,rca or aux signal and channels 23,24 is the Mix output of the board. Just remember to press record on both the Computer for the DAW and on the Board for backup as I forgot to record both and lost a whole set for a band. Thank goodness it was only my band 😭

      The band built their own mics using old telephones! It was great because we had to discuss which lines needed the effect and which didn’t before we started recording. No “I’ll figure it out in the mix” attitude here!

  • @legacyShredder1
    @legacyShredder1 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    I bought a Tascam Model 24 shortly after the had come out. They certainly have their place, but don't rush out and buy one as your interface without doing your research first. If you plan on using a bunch of outboard in mixing it's not really the unit for you. If you need a mixer, it's a mixer. If you need a bunch of preamps to get tracks into the computer, it does that well enough. If you want good I/O or low latency in and out of the PC, it's not for you.

    • @JoeStopkaMusic
      @JoeStopkaMusic ปีที่แล้ว +1

      When you say latency issues - were you overdubbing or monitoring from the DAW? Because we have not heard this from anyone else

    • @legacyShredder1
      @legacyShredder1 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@JoeStopkaMusic I would have to go dig through my notes to give a thorough answer, but there were various circumstances where the latency proved to be an issue for us. Mapping the clicks when routing, comb filtering during monitoring on the output in combo with DAW output matrix, alignment issues when running I/O as hardware inserts, punching in and out.
      We were hopeful this unit could be an asset in our mobile rack units and in our affordable rooms. We found a lot of work arounds, but so much so that it wasn't viable for us. It certainly has it's place, though.

    Damn that's a fine mixer. I'd have loved even the model 12 back when I was recording our band demos. Bass and guitar DI'd into a crap headphone mixer so the drummer could hear us. Then route the drum kit (6 mics) through our Peavey PA mixer and run the stereo out to a Boss BR. Tweaking the levels and eq on each mic before having the balls to print it to a stereo track, then going back to rob the 57 from the snare to mic the guitar cab, and rob the kick AKG to mic the bass cab. The drum overheads repositioned for an acoustic guitar and then record our parts over the drums one at a time. I learned so much but man it was so stressfull lol

    This is a great video! I really enjoyed it.. I have the Model 12, it's so much fun. I use it as a multitrack interface for Ableton. But I also like to challenge my chops and have sessions with it as a standalone. It's makes me ask the question.. "Can I live with the mistake I just made or do a whole retake?" I mean.. Yes, you can punch in, but where's the adventure in that?
    I'd be interested to see how you handle a Model 24 session... BUT.... ONLY 57s ALLOWED!!!!! That would really be a masterclass!

    Cool desk. We nearly went with this over the PreSonus, but for the weirdest reason it has no bus or master inserts so next to useless in the studio. Perfect for live recordings like this though.

    • @ProbablyTooLoud
      @ProbablyTooLoud ปีที่แล้ว +1

      It has inserts on channels one and two. Tascam should have added inserts on all input channels. For solo project tracking, two inserts are fine however.
      The routing is also very useable for outboard gear. Printed tracks are usually transferred to the DAW.
      The M16/24 is a solution to quickly work outside the box for tracking ideas.

    • @CybreSmee
      @CybreSmee ปีที่แล้ว

      @@ProbablyTooLoud Channel inserts on 2 channels is usable, but bus and master inserts are very problematic if you have any processing gear, which most people do who want an analog mixer. Your solution effectivly wipes out 7 return channels and is very clunky.

    I wonder if there is phase control option on the Tascam Model 24? I have the Yamaha N12 - there is a dedicated switch to invert the phase (e.g. between the front (beater) and the rear mics on the kick drum. Most budget / semi-pro consoles seems to have dropped this option. I guess it can be inverted in the single track post processing, but how it works with the standalone multitrack recorders without the phase inverter switch? Thanks.
