I've been failing to record for more than 10 years and I've finally decided to force myself so I'm thinking of getting one of these. I need the hands on plus the computer screen. I so want it to be simple 'press to play' please Lord may this be the right choice.. I love music I hate faffing about with anything else.. Music is my therapy for the frustrations in life, recording is the frustrations in life.. I listened to the first 6 minutes of you talking and understood everything you didn't tease or embellish thanx for making it comprehensible.. Now let us pray this means so much to me..
Great job Mr Mutz, thank you for making these vids ! Love my M12. I started off with the 244 in 1981 and then to the 388 as soon as it came out and used it for 20 years, so when the 12 came out it was a no brainer to get back to my Tascam roots !
Got to love the Tascams. You certainly have a good history with them. I once owned a 238, but foolishly traded in for an Alesis Blackface ADAT. One of my biggest regrets. Thanks for watching!
thank you for the model 12 series.... would it be possible for you to make a video specifically about using stereo fx pedals with the model 12 and 2 sends, a step by step? I have seen a couple of other people do it and they are so convoluted when they explain it.. the way you explain things is great... regards
Thanks for watching and I hope the videos were helpful. As far as doing a video on using effects pedals with the M12, I did talk a little about how to use multiple outboard effects on my Part 2 "Tips and Tricks" video, but in the interest of time, I didn't include an actual demo. I only occasionally do gear videos, but if I get around to doing another one or a Part 4 video, I'll include a demo with pedals. As far as whether I can explain it better than anyone else, we'll have to see..Lol.
I would like this as well. This is my first mixer and I don’t understand how it works and I really want to understand how to best use stereo fx pedals in the best way ☺️
@@Bobo Thanks. I just started working on a part 4 video in which I go over how I go about getting more than 12 tracks from the Model 12. I will include a demo of using multiple outboard effects. I hope to finish sometime next week.
Informative video thank you, I also have a model 12 one ting I don't like when am recording vocals punching in etc ,the click sound that the buttons make are so loud it records into the track, those buttons should be rubber and silent
Have become interested in the DAW (Logic) controller capabilities and started watching reviews. Thanks for the in-depth look- I haven’t even looked around at other models/ brands. I’m really interested in using a Jamstik guitar midi controller through their software and then re-amping into a pedal board and recording that signal. Any reasons that workflow wouldn’t work with the M12?
Thanks for watching. I'm not sure I fully understand what you're trying to do, nor I'm I that familiar with the Jamstik, but I'll take a stab at it. You can use the M12 as an audio interface to your DAW (Logic) and send midi thru the M12 into Logic. The M12 has midi in and out. You can then play back the sounds from your DAW software and record that back on the M12 if you wanted to. As far as re-amping, you can send your DAW's recorded direct guitar signal back thru the M12 and out using an AUX send. That would then go to a re-amp box if you have one and then to either your pedal board or guitar amp. You can also record the guitar's direct signal on the M12 and send that out to a re-amp box and into a pedal board or amp and record that back as well. That I have actually done and it worked. Just be aware when ever sending signals in an out of anything, you could get a ms of latency, which may or may not be noticeable.
When I record my three piece band using the model 12 as an audio interface into Logic (iPad) ,I leave the switch on “Live” and it seems to work fine. Everything I see online says to switch to “PC”. Interesting.
Can't find an answer to this... I want to use this as a live stage mixer and recorder. No headphones, just stage speakers. I want to be use all the eq's, effects, etc for our live mix...AND I want to record the complete live mix including eq's, effects, etc. Our entire band goes through the mixer then out to powered speakers. I want to record the a complete 3 hour gig and just want to set it and let it record. Don't want to mess with it at all during the Gig. Then take the SD card out and do any post editing of the 3 hour gig on my Daw. Is this even possible? I actually thought this is what this unit was made for, but it seems not. Hardly anyone seems to be using it for a live stage mixer. I can do it on my Tascam DP 24sd. Just hit record and plug my speakers into the Monitor Outs. Am I missing something here? Oh, and thank you for this. I'm getting my Model 12 manana and trying to get a head start for next weekends gig. This has been invaluable.
Thanks for watching, but yes, you can record your show with the M12 and mix it later on the M12, or transfer your files to your DAW and mix and edit them in there. I do both all the time. You can record just the 2 track Main stereo mix, which includes all the eq and effects based on how you mixed it live, and/or "arm" and record each individual track. You can then move both the 2 track Main Stereo mix (Track 11&12) and the Individual recorded tracks (1-10) to your DAW. You may not need tracks 11&12, if your mixing in your DAW, but I usually bring it in any way and use it as a guide. Sometimes, I prefer the simplicity of the 2 track M12 mix over my DAW mix. Also, I'll point out by default, the individual tracks are recorded Pre Compression and EQ, which some people prefer since they will apply Comp and EQ in their DAW. However, you can override this in the Menu under MTR USB Send Point and change it to record Post Comp or Post EQ if you want to print the Comp and EQ. It's pretty flexible. Think of the M12 as being a live mixer with a 10 track multitrack recorder and a 2 track stereo mix down deck hooked up in one.
@@mutzmusic5737 That is a great response. Not only because it's what I want to hear, but the fact that you actually knew the answer. I've asked several folks and gotten so many different responses. Even tho they did tutorial videos on the Model 12, they just didn't know the answer. You did. Reminds me of that joke when a Mechanic charged the military $10000 for fixing an engine with just a tap of a hammer. When asked, he said..." It was $100 for my time and tapping the engine with my hammer. The remaining $9,900 was for knowing where to tap it." 😊 Thanks!
Thanks for watching. While I've punched in and out, I've never used a Foot pedal with my M12, so I'm not familiar with your problem. However, I did find a video on TH-cam called "Tascam Model 24 punch in /out footswitch RC-1F how to" which might help you.

So helpful, i knew the basics but this answered so many questions i had
Thanks, glad it helped!
I really enjoy your approach to this. I’m kind of using your model 12 series as a reference. Thank you for taking the time to do these
Great, thanks for watching. I'm hoping to do a Part 4 in the next week or so.
Bravo! I learned so much thanks a million.
Thanks for watching!
Brilliant stuff... Thankyou so much, opened up new windows for me...
Very cool... Learned a couple of things I wasn't aware of!!!
Great review! I really love my Model 12 mixer interface more and more when watching your video!

maybe try the foot switch to punch in and out ? 35 bucks well spent
Great video thanks. As far as I know the mixer is digital only the pre amps are analogue.
Thanks for watching. You're correct, only the preamps are analog on the M12.

Is the summing in the model 12 analog or digital? Great video btw.
Thanks, I think it's all digital. To my knowledge only the preamps on the M12 are analog,
