Great video, thanks for sharing. I am blessed enough to have a model Railway version of this beautiful locomotive scale 1:87 on my model railway layout 🚂♥️
My dad worked on the CB&Q and they had to do this several times a day when the power unit would not work. They have to keep them greased all the time. I bet they do not this one.
In all my years as a railway man - seeing and helping to turn a steamer (and for all the years after with diesels and other motoring methods) it never ceased to amaze me as to why? Why They used manpower alone, when they had a hulking great steam powered locomotive there, with steam pipes galore, which would have EASILY self-driven a steam powered turning mechanism.. Ah but then that's railway folk for you - slog your guts out and do NOT use the steam from the loco - to self drive anything. A simple (horizontal) single piston driven gear unit, attached onto the side of every turntable - would have made that job 100% easier for all loco crews, already tired from a long hard day..

@@SuperAWaC Balance is the key requirement in turning a steam locomotive, and this is a tight fit. Perhaps a longer turntable would allow for the locomotive to shift its centre of balance?
@@applecounty Most serious turntables I have ever seen are designed to be able to accommodate locomotives up to the length of the turntable. I assumed this turntable was designed like that, but it may not be. Whenever I see problems like they are having, it's generally because the main bearing is shot or something is wrong with the outer wheels.
I would just get a portable 12-volt cable winch and use it to 'pull' that turntable 90 degrees, then re-position the winch and turn the table another 90 degrees. You can buy one for $200 and it is capable of pulling 3,000 pounds.
All the handcrafted turntables all over the world in Steamclub & museatrack just need a scrapsteamengine, some welding and a temporere connection to the boiler (cylindervalve)... if i see such stupid crankwork, i think how cut we land on the moon ...

Amazingly steam-tight locomotives and very clean exhaust.

4:51 God ! The trackwork is gorgeous !!! 11:11 I wonder if a motor vehicle could be tied to it and (help) pull it ....

A mechanism which doesn't exist doesn't consume any of your budget for its maintenance.
It is not a very well maintained turntable. The Lenzen Turntable could easily spin Southern Pacific 4-8-8-2s with two people manning the wheel.

Brilliant video, something nice and unusual

A steem train driver must enjoy his job more than a diesel or electric driver.
More skills needed and more fun.
Absolutely 👍😎👍
Super video, nice captures! Good work! Thumbs Up and subscribe 🚂👍

I suspect that if the turntable were properly lubricated that one or two men on the handwheel would do the job. That's how they were designed.

Are these locomotives French locomotives?
The Mikado is French ( Canadian ), the Elefant is Switzerland
叫日本人去幫他們設計,一個人就可輕鬆搞定 ?!…………🤣🥰😅

Look like they could have used a team of Belgium horses to help turn the locomotive
Its a very good idea 🤣🤣🤣

That turntable must be in need of repair. I've seen videos of one man turning a locomotive. Just sayin'... Good stuff thanks for posting.

That turntable needs some sort of power assist for sure.
A small gasoline engine and reduction gear box would be helpful.
Its a good idea, but i think the turntable would replaced by the swiss railways soon
@@giorgio-luigischmid1873 Um Gotteswillen NEIN. Ist doch die richtige Kur gegen Fettleibigkeit.🤣

whats the name of this steam train
and also whats the name of its coaches too
Is there history on this loco?
Yes, strongest Steamlocomotive of Switzerland
Tolles Video, aber sehr langatmig. Auf ein Drittel zusammengeschnitten wäre sinnvoll!

Why cant't it use loco's power to rotate? // Stadler near this steam engine looks like a spaceship :) // Oh, two of them.
