    Once a stroke survivor has reached increased spasticity, do the brain really reach a stage of decreased spasticity? I've reached to believe that the fault is in my brain as it constantly and involuntarily contracts my muscles and I don't know whether my brain will ever learn to relax them.

    I’m a year into my recovery and never heard of these stages. I think knowing about them would help survivors manage their expectations and push forward!

      I really hope so! Trying to make this information more accessible, but I'm always frustrated to hear when someone hasn't learned what they should have been told in the hospital! Not at the survivor but at the healthcare providers who should have been talking about it!
      I hope this was helpful for you ❤️

    My mom is 91 years old. She had a major stroke in May. The hospital didn't give her my PT, if at all. Just assessment. In the last 2 weeks she made it and entered into a rehab facility. The put a splint on her mostly effected side, her right hand, but her leg also "frogs" up and constantly reflexes in a bent position. There's pain in her right to mid hip and upper leg. She climbed part of a mountain last year at age 90. I know she's old, but she is still determined and strong willed. If she doesn't meet certain goals soon enough, we were told that the insurance company will discontinue rehab. We can't give up on her. She made it so far in a short time. How can we get this leg back as much as possible? Any help and advice is much appreciated. I left work to be there for her and will do whatever I can to learn and help her in her highest possibly recovery. We have faith, hope and are determined to "walk" with our mom each day to help her. Thank you for reading and your videos. I just subscribed. God Bless you

      You can blend green juices for her. What we eat either heal us or destroy us . She need omega 3s healthy fats ,walnuts Almond cashew flaxseed chia seeds pumpkin seeds sunflower seeds are all good for her . Beans ,vegetables,fruits are also good too. She needs ALA (alpha lipoic acid)you can get it in supplement on amazon or you can get it from carrots beetroot ,. Sweet calamus powder Is good for stroke patients and also gotu kola and Brahmi. I'll be praying for your mom healing and your family. God bless you

    My biggest challenge is bearing weight on my palm while extending my fingers. It’s improved a lot, but the index and thumb really tighten and flex inward. I just have to keep stretching.

    • @PostStrokeOrg
      @PostStrokeOrg  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Yes, that spasticity can really act up when trying to extend. I've found some people have better luck trying to use a brace like this: amzn.to/3eVl8HQ when working on weight bearing and finger extension.

    When I’m walking my arm is either tight or flaccid. Sometimes it’s across my chest or it’s dangling in front of me. What’s better. I think my shoulder has dropped too, thanks for another good video

    • @PostStrokeOrg
      @PostStrokeOrg  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @stevekierstead, Another good question! That tightness across your chest is something we'd probably want to reduce. However, when your arm is hanging, it's really important to be aware of safety issues. Arms are really heavy and can put a strain on the shoulder joint. As a general rule, sometimes I recommend shoulder stabilizing braces (very gentle and made of neoprene) to wear when the arm is flaccid to reduce the shoulder strain.

    Elyse,
    Can spasticity/high tone be cured. Ma y UK physiotherapists insist that it cannot, but that appears to run counter to Brunstrom

    For all Canadian if you have some sequels of your stroke both government have taxes credit but you need to fill a form from each government part as to be fill by the person with invalidity and part as to be fill by a doctor and before mailing them keep copies of those forms in case they said they didn’t get it. ounce the demand is accepted by the government. Your taxes credit is elligible from the year wich you have the stroke even if the stroke happen the end of the year by law it’s count from the first month of the year you been declare with invalidity.Also any expense you do from private health care they are also accepted for taxes credit . Taxes credit is not reimbursement it is a away to reduced your year taxes declarations .If the doctor bill you to fill the forms it is also elligible for the taxes credit . Hope this can help a lot of you because both government does not make a lot of publicity about these programs for invalidity short or long terms !

    So when you strech I hold it but do you have to do multiple reps in one setting for spasticity

  • @greg3293

    I am 10 years post and my spasticity is still very strong.. it effected my foot and toes so bad my great toe turned sideways and eventually dislocated..I just has surgery to fix it but I'm so scared that the specificity will come back and will before my foot again, how can I work on my spasticity now to try to relieve it? I've been on so many muscle relaxers and different stroke medications for spasticity but nothing works. I've had Botox as well multiple times and that didn't work either. I'm not a candidate for the backlifting pump. I failed the test so they said I couldn't have it. I don't know what else to do or try

    • @PostStrokeOrg
      @PostStrokeOrg  8 หลายเดือนก่อน

      It sounds like you’ve tried a lot! I hope the surgery went well. I’d recommend reaching out for a therapy reevaluation to see what recommendations they would make for your specific situation!

    If you have a good accounting to make your income taxes report , example you get the stroke octobre 2016 if you already make your tax declarations he can ask for revision of your declarations for 2016 . This can help you to get money back from it !
