      @redpanda, It's hard for me to give a specific answer because I don't your history or current movement, but as a general rule, while the pace of stroke recovery does slow down after the first 3-6 months, progress can still happen.

    Hi Dr. Newland, I'm a recent graduate from OT school and passed the boards exam last month and I cannot wait to begin my journey as an entry level OT. I just wanted to say thank you for sharing your skills and knowledge! I have been watching your videos and they are so good! They are very straightforward and easy to follow. I love learning from you, especially with your expertise and specialization in stroke rehab. I look forward to working with the adult and geriatric population and these videos have been very informative and insightful.
    I wanted to ask, would it be okay to combine movements while performing these preparatory PROM exercises (ex: elbow extension and forearm supination/pronation) or advise to do one movement at a time?

    • @PostStrokeOrg
      @PostStrokeOrg  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @nickyblando Thanks so much for your kind words! And a HUGE congrats for graduating and passing your boards!! I know you must be so relieved.
      As our OT mantra dictates, "It depends." haha Combining movements would typically be okay but it's always important to look at each of our clients individually to make sure we're best meeting their needs, their strengths, and their issues :)

    I really appreciate your videos. Your delivery, organization, and the clear and concise information. One suggestion would be is to have current stroke recovery patients at various levels of recovery doing these exercises. I’d like to see modifications they employ. For example, #10 stretch I cannot move my fingers using the position you demonstrate, I have to pull open my fingers and ignore my thumb. Is there a better way? But, again, I appreciate all that you do to help us.

    • @PostStrokeOrg
      @PostStrokeOrg  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @jwebb753, Thank you for your kind words and feedback. I would love that as well, but I'm still taking precautions due to the pandemic. It is something that I would like to try in the future though!
      And as far as a modification, what you're doing is okay. This particular stretch may be a two-parter for you. So first stretch your fingers the way you have been, and then gently stretch your thumb, then repeat. I hope that helps! 😊

    The rehabilitation method I'm writing about is based on the fact that in rehabilitation it is necessary to stretch the injured side, the stretching that I understand helps in addition to the Sirtons is to make a circular movement many times for a long time, reaching the head and the leg. The circular movement of the head and at the same time of the hand, directly affects the hand and the ankle. I am not a doctor, I have no education in the field, absolutely nothing. This is my personal experience

    Thanks. Mum said she found this very helpful. She was extremely fearful throughout the video in case it went too hard or too fast but I slowed the video down a bit and she enjoyed it, and did her best. And so it continues ❤

    Hello I a question ⁉️ since December I had a stroke I've been recovering since May....the right side of my body has been getting muscle spasms in my arm and in my leg.... during my sleep when I wake and it's still happening... does it mean that my muscles are waking up?

    • @PostStrokeOrg
      @PostStrokeOrg  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @kennethscarborough That's a good question and it would probably be better directed to your neurologist or a physician who is more familiar with you. From a very general perspective, it could be a few different things. Your brain may be starting to reconnect with muscles causing spasm or pain. Or you could be developing spasticity. If you can, I'd reach out to your doctor as they'll be better able to diagnose what's likely going on and may be able to prescribe a medication that can help with the spasms! Thank you for sharing and for asking! Please take care :)

      @JasminPersson. I'm so sorry you didn't have the chance to rehab with therapy due to the pandemic. Luckily, the internet does provide a lot of resources, it's just hard to sift through everything!

    Thanks for THIS and ALL your great videos. My right arm and hand MOVE, but I feel ALOT of pain, stiffness and numbness. Would I benefit more from these type of exercises or mirror box therapy? Also do you have any videos on facial numbness and stiffness? Thank you for all your help.

    • @PostStrokeOrg
      @PostStrokeOrg  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @tinam, You are so welcome! If you have a lot of pain it may be better to start with mirror therapy. But I'd recommend you reach out to your doctor or therapist for more specific recommendations. I don't currently have a video on facial numbness, but I may have to add it to the list. Thanks! 😊

    How many times per day would you suggest these stretches take place each day for optimum results ?

    • @PostStrokeOrg
      @PostStrokeOrg  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      @katewood, As a general recommendation, I'd say at least once per day consistently. I'd recommend asking your physician (or therapist if you're still in therapy) for more individualized recommendations!
