    Jess, just and FYI, I contacted Dan's assistant through email a while back. I suggested having you get a lesson with Dan due to your determination. To my surprise, she contacted me back saying they were already trying to fit you in. I'm so glad that you finally had the opportunity to go to Woburn and learn with Dan personally. What a gratifying time for you!

    Best tip with 1-1 lesson with Dan was let the club drop and then turn. Gives me a feeling that I can turn and make good contact and a soft shot than lands and release.

    A friend and I attended Dan's short game school last year, I already had the book but a few hours with Dan really gave content to his R1, R2 and R3. I spent a lot of time practicing over the winter and this year that has finally paid off, I don't mind if I miss the green and challenge myself to an up and down, which I'm doing more of, but at least now I can make a decision and visualise what I want to do.

      That's awesome, Tracey! I know exactly what you mean. I'm only a week on from Dan's lesson and can already feel my confidence growing when I've missed a green, knowing I can give it a good go or at least have a strong process to give me the best chance of getting up and down.

    Hi Jess, release1 for me, it's helped with my confidence around the greens. Obviously R1 has it's limits, like you, I seem to jump from R1 to R3. Using R2 has been a bit of a lottery for me. This video particularly resonated with me. Luckily I've a space at Dan's short game class later on in the year and can't wait. Good luck with your R2 :-)

    Dan is a great teacher Jess. Top ups from him, I feel, are essential for you to keep his teachings engrained in your game. You pointed to him spotting something in you immediately, that's the kind of thing I mean...you don't need to see him weekly, but a couple of times a season would really help I'm sure
    You filming it will also be a help and reminder for you...thanks for sharing 👍

      We used to go to Turkey prior to the start of our golf season, here in the UK, I would spend hours every day before and after our rounds in the short game areas. It allowed us to hit the ground running when we came back to wet, windy, frost ridden golf courses 😂

    Isn't the takeaway a bit too inside if your rotating 'upper chest/shoulder socket' for a longer backswing? The shoulder line swing plane is too flat and that would probably flatten your shaft swing plane. The flatter the shaft plane , the greater the ROC (ie. rate of closure of your clubface) . This means a much higher risk that your clubface will not be square to your intended target at impact. I've tried various chipping or short pitch techniques and I always end up with 2 , the Leadbetter method for a short backswing using my upper body to add a bit of rotation and the Shawn Clement one (which is higher risk because of up/down movement but seems more natural to me and I can gauge distance control better).

    • @jessratcliffegolf
      @jessratcliffegolf  4 วันที่ผ่านมา

      Thank you for watching, Jack! That's a good question. I was getting too inside with my takeaway and that's the feel that Dan shared (left shoulder initiating backswing) with me to improve it. It might be a feel vs real that worked for me in particular, so I'll keep an eye on the swing plane as you mention.

    Your wedge through the high shot is very smooth. Looking like a pro lol. For the low shot, is the distance controlled by your backswing or your follow? Your finish looks extra low.

    • @jessratcliffegolf
      @jessratcliffegolf  6 วันที่ผ่านมา +1

      Thank you! It's a work in progress 🤣. Great question - I've been working on controlling the distance with the length of my backswing and focused on that in this video. I was aiming for a low finish so I didn't creep into a Release 2 as I have a habit of over-releasing.

  • @merkyr354
    @merkyr354 6 วันที่ผ่านมา

    Hi Jess, now that I have had chance to watch this video I have a few questions.
    There have been a couple of areas where (I think) you have said you need to improve and I just wondered whether it was covered. The first area was your pitching - and given that Dan's stock pitch is a Release 2 - how did that go? And the second are was bunkers?
    The 2 biggest things I have taken away from his book and his videos, are 1. checking the lie before anything else, and 2. concentrating on the landing spot.

    • @jessratcliffegolf
      @jessratcliffegolf  6 วันที่ผ่านมา +1

      Thank you for watching, Mark! You're so right - I definitely want to improve my pitching. We didn't have time to cover pitching but we did cover bunkers, which was brilliant. And focused on both the normal-amount-of-sand shot and tight lie bunker shot. I loved learning the tight lie bunker shot and feel it might come in handy 🤣.
      Yes! You're so right on lie and landing spot.

  • @KeithWhittingham

    More 'works for me, perhaps for thee'...
    I find that when practicing any technique, especially new stuff or changes, the best thing is to play to an empty space, or, for full swings, into a net. That way your focus is on whatever you're trying to fix rather than the target. For example, in the swing @5:54 you get a little bit wristy which you don't really notice because you're focusing on the landing zone.

    • @jessratcliffegolf
      @jessratcliffegolf  6 วันที่ผ่านมา +1

      Absolutely, these were my takeaways from the lesson based on what I've been struggling with. Yes, I agree and will do that as I work on grooving these moves 🤓. Thank you for watching, Keith!

    No.1 was him saying the club should take forever to come back to the ball from the top in release 2 letting gravity do all the work. Still scull it over the green mind !

    Ah, I'm so jealous Jess! I suggested in one of your first videos to go see Dan. Whether that was a motivation or whether you already had it planned, I'm so glad you did! I want so badly to fly across the pond and attend one of his schools but they're near impossible to get into.
    For me, the biggest thing about Dan's teaching is it just gives me a framework I never had. Before I would have totally tried to play the wrong shot because I didn't know any better. Now I can look at the lie and say "I'd like to play a release 2, but this lie doesn't allow it. This is going to be release 1 and I'm just going to have to accept the result." That leaves me on the green 20 feet from the pin with a chance at par rather than thinning it over the green into trouble and assuring a triple.

    • @jessratcliffegolf
      @jessratcliffegolf  6 วันที่ผ่านมา +1

      Thank you! I was so excited when it was put in the diary and loved every minute.
      You're so right - it's the framework and way of thinking that's so key. That's what I've taken from the session with Dan too, it's not just about jumping to "I want to play a Release 2" but assessing the lie first and making the best choice from there.
