You have absolutely nothing to be ashamed of, and I thank you for posting this and being transparent. Some of the best golfers in the world (JT, Rickie, etc) have rounds where they struggle to break 80 and feel like they’re never going to play well again. You’ve shown that you can play great golf. Keep your head up and remember what Paddy said. We’re all rooting for you!

    • @andrewbarrow1983
      @andrewbarrow1983 3 หลายเดือนก่อน

Yes but JT, Rickie etc.. can shoot 7 under on tougher courses the next day, It’s just different standard. That being said, it was just a bad day. Watching Rick and Pete’s regional qualifying vlogs just showed that the nerves were too much on the day. Not that we would be any different though I’m sure. The tour pro’s are just mentally built different.
      Good effort though Pete.

I say keep going, Pete! In future videos you could talk about the mental aspect of things and maybe there's a way to practice and prepare for that? Anyone can go hit 1000 balls at the range but the stress is a different beast, I imagine.

Mate.. it's the "quest" for the open! A "quest" by definition is "a long or arduous search for something", and that is exaclty what it was! If you give up now it would totally defeat the purpose. Keep going mate, I love seeing the tough and frustrating rounds as much as the comfortable 5 under rounds you shoot elsewhere. Keep it real!

I'm sure the overwhelming majority of your subscribers would love you to try to qualify again next year but YOU have to be enjoying your golf as that's probably the most important message you can pass on to all of us. Really admire your honesty and bravery in putting this experience out there. Keep up the good work !

I feel like this video is a really good insight for newer golfers who perhaps see a club pro / scratch handicap / plus handicap golfer play at their club and ask "why don't you go pro?". There's quite a leap from playing at your local club, or hitting shots on a simulator, and then turning it on when it matters in front of a crowd. It's really difficult to mimic / practise the nerves, pressure and mental side of competing in that manner. If it was easy - everyone would be doing it!
I feel for Pete here given it's literally a "bad day at the office" - something nobody is exempt from (even tour pros!) - albeit at the worst time for him. Pete is a great golfer IMO and I hope he learns from this experience and continues to push himself as, even though it may be painful at times, it'll help develop his golf game. The talent and dedication to succeed is there - we've seen it in other videos / comps over the last 12 months - and with some sports psychology thrown in there I really think Pete can go on to do great things! Best of luck for the future

Hi Pete, I've just watched the open qualifying video. It's a great video, an honest reflection, and provides insight into your round. I appreciate this is by no means the outcome that you wanted. Hearing you say you "hated yourself" for "letting people down" was tough! and would be disputed by every single person who went to watch and 99% of people who follow you on TH-cam. I appreciate that this will inevitably add pressure, but the fear of letting people down and what others think of us will always negatively affect your ability to score. I understand this first hand, I suffered with everything you spoke about while playing professionally. Although it may not feel like it now, you are good enough and more than capable of qualifying. Keep going Pete, or there will always be that, "what if l'd stuck at it?"

Every single one of us has had one of those rounds that must be endured, rather than enjoyed. Feel your pain Peter. Incredibly brave to share this hard experience with your followers and I hope you can find strength in you to try again next year. You are a terrific golfer, trying to achieve every Golfer's dream. Please keep the content going.

I have just come from watching my favourite poker player (Daniel Negreanu) win his first WSOP bracelet for over 7 years after a mind numbing grind over 5 days. I follow it up by watching my favourite golf player (Peter Finch) face such a disappointment after the amazing journey towards the Open and all of the hard work on his game.
Competition at a high level is incredibly tough and seeing both sides of trying to be the best you can be in your field and the emotion that comes from all the successes and failures makes me admire these guys even more.
Best wishes Pete. All the people who watch these videos are behind you. Following your journey matters to me more than any one result. Lifelong fan :)

This series has been great and I've enjoyed getting a notification about a new video being up because I know I'm going to enjoy it. All of the videos have been great to watch and just seeing how you planned everything out really helped with my 3 and 6 month plans for my golf. Looking forward to the Record Breakers video you mentioned, another one of my favorite series on TH-cam. I know a few of you were all doing the quest for the Open videos, next year it would be great if you and Matt at least could maybe do some of these videos together, and you need to get Padraig Harrington back on the channel! Some of the best advice I have heard and it has changed my mental game so much.

Hi Pete, I’m not sure what to say, I very rarely comment but felt I had to this time. I’ve also wanted to watch Rick Shiels episode of his qualifying round.
I actually hated watching both episodes mainly because I wanted you both to do so well and progress on. Being a golfer ( a very average 14 handicapper) I felt your pain, the expectations, you know you can play good golf and you are good enough to qualify but I think the occasion got to you a bit. Please don’t give up on it, try again next year, I know you don’t feel like it now but perhaps start thinking about preparing now ready to go again for next year.
I think you’ve done all right things this year, playing in pro events like you did, playing with Padraig and listening to his good advice, he actually thought you were good enough, maybe play a round with the guy’s that qualified at your event to see what their thoughts are but don’t give up on it. It makes great content for TH-cam, I’ve thoroughly enjoyed watching you try this year.
Golf is a great game Pete and a bloody pain in the arse all at the same time but I always look forward to the next time I play.
Good luck with all you do in the future, I’ll be watching, cheers Pete, John

We've all had bad days on the course and if you were playing well then had one it stings, but that melodramatic music had me laughing out loud!
It really stings when you paid $200.00 or more and play like crap!
    What a game...

Big props for filming and posting this Peter. It's just golf. We can be playing so well and then suddenly it all goes south for a bit. You've got a lot of game. Keep chasing these tournaments. There is no substitute for experience. You tempo was a little quicker than your normal and that is understandable given the pressure and your swing feeling out of sync. You've got a lot of fans. Thanks for posting and keep up the good work.

Dotted throughout this video are OUTCOME related comments from Peter instead of PROCESS. The perfect example is when he said he was focussing on shooting below 80. That's a pure outcome related comment. The best players constantly talk about this issue. Until we get the hang of this, we can't perform well under pressure. FORGET ABOUT THE PREVIOUS SHOT(S), DON'T WORRY ABOUT WHAT'S COMING UP ON THE NEXT HOLE, AND PLAY ONE SHOT AT A TIME--focussing only on the one you're about to play. Rely on your pre-shot routine--that's pure process.Don't worry about what the gallery is thinking. Don't think about holding the Claret Jug when you're on the 15th hole. Those are outcome-related thoughts. This is a skill, and it's difficult, so we have to work on it every time we play.

Come on Peter, you surely CANNOT give up on this quest. For one good reason. You are now our flagship in the myst of this cruel but addictive game. You faced what we are facing more than once. It was rude, unfair, unbelievable, disgusting... for you gave so much energy to it. But you know that is "golf". Lift this chin up, take a breathe, some beers, yes more beers maybe and go back to chunks, shanks and three putts with this adorable and funny ways you have. More seriously, you are an amazing professional. We learn a lot, A LOT with this series... Your sadness is ours. Oh and we need a revenge. Yes "Open qualifying : THE REVENGE" ! In French we say : "Impossible n'est pas français !". Make it yours. Cheers. 🙏👍😎

Can’t let one bad day derail you. Fair enough it feels shit! But it was just a bad day full of lessons for the next days. This is how masters are built!
Dust yourself off, learn from it and chin up! DO NOT GIVE UP! EVER! Especially because your game has been tracking well!
You have a talent, you have us (your Fans) and another day to take a stab at it! Keep going..!

First time I've watched this channel and I've just watched Rick Shiels make a James Hunt of it too, and I imagine there's hundreds of other guys guts are wrenching, not just yours. Be humble and remember most of the world's golfers would die for an 83 on what looked an extremely unforgiving course. Why not choose another competition eg Scottish Open, Irish or Welsh, Italian etc and do a series, then do THE OPEN qualifying once Series 1 "The Scottish Open" is bagged? If not, keep pushing for Open Qualifying, people are still interested, and I'll follow next year. Chin up !

Obviously not the result you were hoping for, but don’t let that detract from everything you’ve accomplished. It’s been a great series and you are a much better golfer than your score reflects.
To draw on some Jocko Willink wisdom… Didn’t qualify for the Open? Good. Exposed a weakness in your game and know what to work on next year.

What's the point? You can't have the highs without the lows. I don't need to read many of the comments below to know that many people will say, 'Thank you.' as I will: THANK YOU. Today (as often), golf won. Like many other people, I feel for you. Success is not final, failure isn't fatal: it's the courage to continue that count.

Oiy Finchy, Stop knocking yourself, Bizarrely you and Rick have mirrored the similar thoughts, apart from frustrations and disappointments, what you and Ricky demonstrate is how hard golf is, you both played brilliant golf and technique, but on the day all those nerves and pressure come together to pull the rug. Great video thanks, we learn and we move on Envisage-Enhance-Exceed and Evolve old son :)
